O Lori how can u walk at all. Oh u poor thing what a SE that is.

Well went to the in laws last night for their 64th wedding anniversary, made them dinner. I did crab legs, filet Mignon and potatoes au gratin. I cooked the steaks in a cast iron skillet, yum. They turned out perfect! Brought them some yellow lilies, too. fun night. They are both in their mid 80's so pretty much are shut ins. Tangueray and tonic my drink for the evening.
Now waking up to this crap!! Yes I did drive to work! I have driven in far worse. As years go on the crews get better in keeping up with the roads, at least the main roads. Now as far as going in on Wednesday I don't know. Projected wind chills are around -50. I sure don't want to get stranded on the roads.

MORNING DAHHHLINks
Sorry for Mondays for lots of you gals, but it won't be long (I hope).
I'm jes poopin in real quick to give u all an update on my surgery. PAINFUL!!! LOL, but it's been 5 days and am doing much better. Stayed with DD in LV in case I had problems. I didn't except for her naggin me about drinking. And of course, my dh is ALWAYS in my face about. I DON'T mix alki with pain meds...I kno how dangerous that is, that said, I marched into kitchen and fixed a cocktail. No il-effect at all. DH came back to pick me up yest and of course 20?'s. Makes me nutz....I kno it's cuz they care, but still, annoying as hell.Anyway, just wanted to touch base, have a ton of stuff to go thru for end of month attention.
WELCOME to all the newbies...will chat again soon. To the rest of mese fav bresties....keep on Hangin' On.
Lubslubslubslubslubs!!!

Hi, MemaSue! Good to see you check in here, but not so good that you're in so much post-op pain. Can you takd advantage of the recreational MJ dispensaries in NV? (I'm gonna be in Vegas this weekend--just in time for Chicago to warm up).
Last night I opened a half-bottle of Yalumba (Aussie) "Antique Tawny Museum Reserve" Port and had an ounce with some Point Reyes Bay Blue cheese and a couple of Raincoast Crisps. Yum! No need for dessert. Yalumba also makes a ruby-style port called "Clocktower" which is wonderful.
Awoke to about another 3" of snow--we at the lakefront definitely got spared the worst of it. Temps peaked ar 34F this a.m. and beginning to drop steadily: 28 and windy. Will awake tomorrow to -3, with a high barely creeping above zero. Wed. will be the absolute pits: waking up to -21 (or worse) and warming up only to -11. (A record for the lowest high temp ever recorded here, beating 1982). Thurs. not much better: -22 on arising, high of -3, dropping down to -5 Fri. morning (when we leave for Midway) before warming up just enough to snow again. 42 (above) on Sat., mid-30s and "wintry mix" Sun. Wonder what awaits us upon our return Tues. night.
Housekeeper called: two flat tires (discovered after digging her car out). She cancelled her DH's eye appt. for tomorrow (actually, the V.A. called to reschedule all elective non-urgent appts.) and will get here come hell or high water...(actually too cold for either hell or high water). She says she will come Wed. & Thurs. too and may sleep over Thurs. to take us to Midway unless we're sure we can get a cab or rideshare. I am cancelling my Wed. manicure (I'm sure I can find a nail salon that does non-chip manis in Vegas) and probably Heidi's (girl kitty) vet appt. Thurs. We can bundle ourselves up, but not sure if we can protect her carrier while still giving her enough oxygen to breathe. And speaking of DOTDs, it's highly doubtful we'll go to the winemaker dinner Thurs. night (assuming it's still on).

Hello all,
For all you cold weather girls, stay safe and warm tonight. We will get a bit of cold rain tomorrow, but no other mess. Giving myself a pedicure while watching the Lady Gamecocks play basketball. Have some social occasions this week and will wear my wig. Keep your fingers crossed my white blood cell count has not dipped too low. This Friday will be the third infusion of this cycle. If all goes well, I will get the Neulasta patch for the weekend. I did get some housework done today. Still no awful side effects. I do hope that continues for a while.
Seriously, look out for that cold weather
-
Kim - thought of you today....I was working in a coffee shop by my house as I didn't want to drive in the snow....a hospice nurse was there working away on the computer...I'm sure logging patient notes....BTW, in-home hospice took care of my mother the last two weeks of her life and I saw that they are angels dressed as humans.
Lori - wow - your feet look so painful. I hope they don't hurt as bad as they look.
Stay warm and dry.....

Good Morning, Loungettes!Getting up to another cold one this ayem. 5 above the donut on the thermometer, 6 below the donut with wind chill. Sadie went out, piddled, and ran straight back in and burrowed under the bedcovers while they were still warm! Don't blame her. Wouldn't mind staying under the covers a while longer myself. The work drama goes on, I got a text from Clinical Manager #4 yesterday afternoon telling me I have 5 visits scheduled to me for today. Then I get a call from Clinical Manager #1, who was not working yesterday, wanting to make sure I knew I had visits today after CM #4 called CM#1 to find out who put visits on my scheduled after she (CM#4) "gave you the rest of the week off."Apparently CM #4 was not happy that I had visits scheduled without her OK. Add to that the office Director announced that he is leaving to take a regional position and the entire office is in a bit of an uproar. Not very Christian of me, but the first thing that went through my mind was that CM#4 is just kiss a$ enough with upper management that she'd get promoted and then bullying will become the accepted way of dealing with staff, and thank goodness I am getting out now.
Goldie--I don't have a specific day to hear, the HR lady just said sometime this week. The sooner the better in my mind, and I'm practicing being patient. Oh my, your poor feet! That just looks painful.
Cammy--Wind chill of 50 below?Talk about instant frostbite! My mini vacay just got shortened a bit, got some work to do today. It'll be interesting to see what happens about tomorrow. It's a lot easier to put up with the nonsense knowing it's time limited.
LOL @ holding on til the weekend!
LomLin--make sure you have a survival kit in the car if you do go out Wednesday! I think the temp here will drop over the weekend, but not like that, at least I hope not!
Mema--Glad you are home again, sorry you are hurting, praying it gets better every day. Family harping on stuff is annoying, very annoying.
Chi--Talk about a deep freeze! I don't blame you for not going out in that if you don't have to!
Librarian--Praying your white blood cell count is good and you continue to never have any other side effects.
Karen--I'm glad your Mom got good care at the end of her life, it's an important time. And I bet that nurse was logging notes, I've done that in a coffee shop many a day!
NM's DOTD:

Best served in a Highball Glass.

For those of you that asked, YES my feet hurt. And the more I;m on them, the more they hurt.
Cami, I too am glad that I get to see my brother as well.
Lom, I want to come to your dinner...sounds yum and wow, 64 years. Happy anniversary to them.
Oh Sue, so glad you checked in. Sorry about the pain and the nagging. I think drinking with meds, just makes the meds work better!
Sandy, glad your housekeeper can make it and spend the night.
JCS, good luck with that bloodwork.Oh how I remember that neulasta, but it was a shot, not a patch. And my goodness, made my legs feel like jelly.
Ha ha NM, isn't it CM #4 that was always giving you crap? She sure does like to stir it. And bullying, how do you treat people like that??? So hoping you get that new position, altho Sadie will miss you.
All of you that are going to get hit with those cold temps, be careful if you have to go out. I'm glad it will be done with in MI when I head out Sat. Yesterday it was sunny and 60 here. I can't complain about that!

I do have blankets, hand warmers, carry water, a ski suit, hat, & ski gloves. But I am not going out in this on Wednesday!! This is crazy ass stuff. If I lived closer to work perhaps??!!

Hello...everyone! Well, I got this friggen cough and goes along w/ runny nose. I'm racking up on the broccoli, kale, spinach, carrots, etc. because I want to keep that blood work in check on Thursdays! This week will be tx #5! I do have a question for anyone...the other night, I felt under my arm pit and felt a nodule/lump. I am NOT concerned. This was the same side I had my mastectomy on, the same side my Dr checked my lymph nodes on (which there were NO issues), the same side my expander is on. Has anyone had this happen? It has just popped up. Trying not to read too much, but it could be an infection, infection from the expander, I could be leaking etc. I did call the onc and she is out when I go for tx on Thursday. She told me contact the PS and let him check it out. I do have to go "get air in the flat tire' this week and they are going to check it out. I was just curious if this is familiar to anyone? And, any good remedies for this aggravating cough? Stay Thirsty my FRIENDS!
-
Sorry you are not feeling well Gigi. Could the lump be scar tissue?
-
YUP...SCAR TISSUE..I read that too. Or could be an infection. Odd, that I found it then started getting the crud! They will check it out Thursday! I'll report back! Stay thirsty my Friends!..Thanks for the info!
-
Gigi, try and stay healthy--and don't panic! One of the first things my BS' NP warned me about was scar tissue (another was "nerve zaps"). Hope that's all it is.
We're still fairly tropical--3 "above the donut," as Kim puts it. Forecast has been revised to an overnight low of -22, but also a high of only -17. Ugh. My nail salon texted me to confirm tomorrow's mani. I told them I'd keep them posted but not to charge me were I to cancel at the last minute. They said that's okay. Frankly, I'm surprised they're even thinking of opening--CPS (pub. schools), courts, local colleges & universities, many restaurants & shops, even my temple will all be closed through at least Thurs. noon. (Though my temple will leave the vestibule unlocked and heated for street people).
It's so cold I'm even gonna squeeze myself into Spanx, just as an extra layer.
Lori, I can identify a little bit with "the agony of de feet." I didn't have chemo so I don't have hand-foot syndrome, but I awoke this morning with very sore heels. I have extremely sensitive skin on my feet--the slightest edge, wrinkle, bump, stray thread in my shoes will give me blisters. Shoe salesmen don't believe me--even a stiff heel counter in a pair of UGGs I own chews up the back of my ankles six ways from Sunday. (I've tried putting moleskin on the fleece, and giant band-aids or blister bandages on my ankles, but taking any more than a few steps makes the protection wriggle loose. Even when I wear a sock--which you're not supposed to with UGGs). Anyway, I have some fleece-lined orthopedic clogs, and the fleece orthotic in them got sweat-soaked and compressed. So I put an extra flat sheepskin insole atop the orthotics, and having spent a lot of time indoors on my feet yesterday the rear edge of the insole gave me a nasty "hot spot" on my R heel (one is also forming on my L as well). I put on a pair of thick socks, with cotton pads between the sock & my skin. The pads are compressing, and shifting--and even the wrinkle is irritating my foot. I think I'm going to lube my heels with CBD balm and change the insoles again. (Other slippers I own either are too cold, or have neither arch support nor room to put in orthotics). Can't go barefoot, even if the floor weren't cold--my feet are too flat and I have a bunion, bunionette, and Morton's neuroma beneath the outer toes on my L foot. This will make walking through airports and along the Strip painful as hell. Some vacation.
DOTD: big honkin' mug of hot chocolate.
-
Ordered out for Italian food (suppli, eggplant parm, linguine al pesto), so chilling a bottle of Ferrari brut. Left it outside (-2F) for just long enough to fill my ice bucket, where it's now chilling on the counter. Seriously considering making hot buttered rum later.
The only upside of the polar vortex is that I can use my deck as an auxiliary deep-freeze.

Hello everyone - so many newbies great to see! I just wanted to touch base as I have been in and out of emergency all weekend - fever of 101 + achy and feeling lousy
I had bloodwork andcultures done, some of which we are waiting for results. My NP called end of the day to say my MO wants me off Ibrance for 1 week so that my neutrophils can come up...don't take Tylenol as it can interfere with fever readings etc. lots of rest, fluids and keep eating though I don't have much appetite - sheesh I had such a week planned, being sick did not fall in them anywhere. I will be back sooner than later I am hoping! I miss you all and wish you well - Cheers! Janice
-
checking in...Janky I am hoping you get better soon!!!!
Goldie, your poor poor feet, goodness. I bet they do hurt and the next time I walk 7 miles I’m thinking of you the whole time!
Gigi hoping you start to feel better as well.
To everyone freezing in the cold, may I suggest a shot of peppermint schnapps in their hot cocoa? I used to love to sip that.
Cami, I’m starting to be nervous about my oldest leaving for college. She will only be about 2 hrs away though, so that will help! She’s been ready to move out since she was about 4, lol.
I have 2 kids down with the flu in my house. Trying my best not to get it...ugh!
-
Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Hump Day! Waking up to snow, almost 2 inches, and bitter cold coming in this evening after the snow. And, surprise, surprise, Clinical Manager #1 has scheduled me a full day of work today. So much for my mini vacay! Actually, that's ok, I get to go back to a nursing home that was one of my facilities so it will be good to see everyone again. Sadie has gone back to bed, so I'll have to remake the bed before I go to work. The things we put up with for our fur babies! At least one of my references was called yesterday, so the process is moving along!
Goldie--Yes, CM#4 is the problem child. I am wondering if she is going to apply for the Director position. I can see chaos ensuing if she does and gets the job. But, that will be Not my Circus, Not My Monkey. Enjoy the nice warm temps while you can!
Cammy--Hang in there, keep working away at those calls, it will all get taken care of eventually. It's hard on the homeowners, I know, but your guys can only be in so many places at once.
LomLin--Good for you!
Gigi--Honey and ginger are good for coughs. Either straight or as a tea. The lump is probably a lymph node, but lymph nodes swell for lots of reason including irritation, and your body has plenty of irritation in that area to deal with! Having it checked out is good for your peace of mind.
Chi--Ouch, your poor heels! Trying to walk on hurting feet is not fun. I hope yours clears up ASAP.
Janky--So sorry you are not feeling well, and praying you get better very quickly.
Wigging--ooh, Peppermint Schnapps in hot cocoa, great idea!

Sandy, I don't own an Uggs, but I did not know you aren't supposed to wear socks! Sorry for your issues, hopefully you can get around Vegas without too much trouble. Taxis?
Janky, how awful. Hopefully you will be on the mend soon. Do you think it was the Ibrance causing the low counts, therefore making you sick? That's the one thing that scares me about going on Ibrance.
Wiggy, LOL on your DD wanting to move out since she was 4, cute. Pray you don't catch that flu, lots of Lysol!
NM, working all the days they told you they had nothing. Mese thinks they are STILL taking advantage of you. Glad you will at least get to see some old friends and perhaps old patients/family. One of your references were called....that has to be a good sign, right? I do like our warmer winter days, however been staying in the house. Yesterday was cloudy, which makes it gloomy to me. Love all the sunshine we get in Arizona, altho it hurts my eyes something terrible!
So glad my trip to MI is after this artic freeze. My BIL, who lives in Indiana sent a pic of his thermostate at -40, but that's as low as it can record! Talked to my mom yesterday, well I talk to her pretty much every day. She remembers that I'm coming, but confused on when, she kept saying in 2 days. She seems to be getting back to about where she was.

CUTE!

Morning DahhhhLinKs
Saw on the news how some states in the east and Midwest are below freezing….oooo…I shiver jes to think of it and I sit here bitching at 35o. My bad!!! All who are in the 'clold zone' STAY WARM!!
NM - So good to hear about the interview….YAY…hopin they'll give da job to u. Good Luck!!
JCS - Hi and welcome. Going thru tx is a PITA but after u've had a few, things shud get easier. Sending HUGZ!!
Loowee - still praying for ur mom….u too frankly, I kno how stressful situations like this can be. Lost my step-mom on the 9th….DS and I had tickets, hotel, and RAC ready to fly up to Oregon to see her on the 12th. Broke both our hearts…but we cancelled our flights etc. Her cremation remains will b buried in same plot as my dad. Didn't want to see that, I wanted to see her breathing. But not to be. Good advice to Muddling. Ur so wise. AND you do not look 60, u look 50ish, like me LOL. Thanks for telling me bout the mascara. I shall look for Mabeline in pink n green…MUAH!
Sandy - I looked for that mascara yest, cudn't find it….on line is my next seeking spot. Hope u make it to Vegas…temps have OK in the midday. Stay safe.
WOOOHOOO JAZZY!!!
Hi Minus Two - try to stay positive and find a reason the laugh every day…HUGZ!
Jazz - mmm loving the look of dat m'tini….might bix me one dis evening…ya'll welcome to join me …woohoo!!
Janky - Yay…no hernia. I had the surgery for the inflamed diver 10 years ago. I try to really watch what I eat and take Colace when I plagued with big C. Good luck to you!
Prissy - good luck to you with the radiation. I had 15 days on my brain, but not breasts. Sending you positive vibes and lots of prayers!
Hi Teka - love the post, LOL.
GiGi - got my final foobs last Weds. So far, lookin good, cept for the scabs in soreness in my belly where doc did lipo to bring more fat t mese chest. Feeling just slightly sore today, so all is good.
I kno I am way behind…but here is a stab at yakkin with mese girls….LUBSLUBSLUBSLUBS to all
-
Touching base - I felt so lousy today I got in to see my family doctor and she says my cultures came back negative for viral infections so definitely chest infection. The chest xray done Sunday shows either pneumonia or damage from radiation, BUT it has changed since an xray last May, so I need to go for a followup xray in a month, and she is definite it is pneumonia...which is why I am sooo tired and out of sorts I guess. They feel the Ibrance will hinder my healing by keeping my counts low, so I will 'obey' my MO
DH made a delicious chicken soup which I had for lunch and plan to have for dinner, and my DOTD is hot water with fresh ginger, lemon slices and honey (pretty gross as I don't like flavored teas) Have almost finished a cup... I hope to be back in the loop here sooner than later as I really miss you all - Cheers! Janice
-
Hang in there, Janice. Chicken soup sounds wonderful.
Awoke to -21F. Made it all the way up to -11F this afternoon. Back down now to -16F and predicted to hit -27F by morning, tying the all-time Chicago records for both stats. Supposed to get as warm as -1 tomorrow evening, and then.......sigh......snow. Up to 3 more inches. And snow all day Fri--good luck getting a cab or rideshare to Midway in time for our flight...more precisely, in time to learn that the flight is delayed or cancelled. Airlines ALWAYS say their flights will be on time, no matter how obviously awful it is outside. Last year Delta swore up and down that my flight from O'Hare to JFK was leaving on time and I would have plenty of time to switch terminals, go through security again, and make my Alitalia flight to Rome. My ride drove through wind and "wintry mix" (it was already late March) to get me to O'Hare on time...only to have the flight delayed by nearly 3 hrs., and I very nearly missed my connection to Rome. It's entirely possible that if our flight to Vegas isn't canceled, we might end up getting bumped in favor of those whose flights were grounded three days in a row. And the FAA exempts weather-related delays and bumpings from any requirement for airlinesto compensate or even put passengers on other airlines' flights. Our suite at the HGV Club is prepaid...and by now, nonrefundable. We may end up paying for Friday night even if we don't get there till Sat.
Most stores & restaurants here are closed. Bob managed to pick up a pizza on the way home, but it got cold on the 2-mile drive from the restaurant. He asked me my preferences and I answered "no deep dish, no pepperoni." I should have specified "Neapolitan," aka traditional, style, cut into wedges. He got South Side-style party-cut thin crust--"party cut" meaning hacked up into irregularly-sized-and-shaped little rectangles, as a beer-accompaniment device. It reminds me of the awful Shakey's and Pizza Haven dreck which was all we could get in 1970s Seattle. But beggars can't be choosers...any port in a storm...mmm, port....
He insists we should attend tomorrow night's winemaker dinner (40 "yes" RSVPs thus far, so it's on, despite the place being closed today and tomorrow morning predicted to be even colder). He also plans on walking there in the subzero cold, but I am not too proud to call a rideshare. (I do have too much sense to drive home after that much wine). I will do the lions' share of my packing tonight.
-
Sue, so sorry to hear about your step mom. But understand about canceling the trip, which is a bummer. Had she been sick? I can't even imagine you having any fat in your tummy!
Oh Janky, that's horrible. Hoping you can kick this to the curb real quick!
Sandy, I hope your plane won't be canceled. Can you go stay at a hotel near the airport? LOL on the "party cut" pizza
Warm enough here yesterday, 60 degrees, so did some work in the garden cutting back things that didn't get done in the fall.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy, Happy, I am Happy!I formally accepted the new job yesterday, will start on Feb 18th. My hours will be mostly 8 ayem to 4 peeyem, Monday through Friday.I turned in my notice at Hospice yesterday afternoon. I'm going to work for them next week, then take the week after off. I am so excited! So is Sadie, and I'm sure she's excited because I'm excited and has no idea why! But she certainly has been excited with me! She pranced around and woofed at me as I babbled at her all last evening.Gotta love the unconditional love of a dog!
Goldie--Yeah, they were still taking advantage of me. That's why I don't feel the least bit guilty about giving them only 1 weeks' notice. Three more work days and that nonsense is over and done with! Glad your Mom is getting back to her old self.
Mema--Going into the deep freeze here.Currently 5 degrees, and that should be about as high as it gets. Looks like we'll miss the worst of the deep freeze. I just hope the wind stays calm. The cold isn't so bad when the wind is calm. And you know the rule here, don't worry about ketchuping, jump in and talk with us!Glad you are feeling better. And so happy the final foobs are looking good!
Janky--oh dear, pneumonia is so draining and exhausting!Do take care of yourself. As you don't like tea you can try mixing honey with lemon juice and fresh ginger (grated or thinly sliced, then heat the mix (you can use the microwave), let it cool, then take a spoonful periodically and sip on plain hot water in between. You'll get the benefits of the honey, lemon and gingerand the benefit of the heat and hydration from the hot water without drinking gross tasting stuff. And make sure to add garlic to the chicken soup!
Chi--what a pain to be in the situation of paying for a suite and not getting to use it all the nights. I am so glad we aren't getting the deep level of cold you are experiencing. That is just crazy, not to mention dangerous!

Mornin Ladies,
See how far I get. These phones have been going for 20 hours and the main person in the office isn't there so I;ve been on duty. I feel so sorry for these people but all I can do is make calls, our trucks weren't even startin g---we only had 4 guys yesterday, somehow they were great and made it as easy on me as possible but I really an't do another day like yesterday but I've already had 5 calls, a couple of guys have been working all nite. At least I don't have to leave the house.
Pneumonia??? oih jeez that makes u so sick, I haven't had that in my whole life til I got the shot this year and it was horrible. Just rest and follow orders is all u can do, I'm sooo sorry. It's funny but when anyone now is sick in the house u really have to stay away and use plenty of Lysol and wipes for everything. Plenty of really hot chicken soup and breathe it in then eat it. I don't think that's in any med. journal just sounds good.
Oh I started writing this 3 hrs. ago, I'll be back later.
LUBS U ALL

Hi ladies- been on the go with work and then weekend get aways. Cali was great fun and came back to winter from temps after being in the delicious 70s. I am looking forward to my first weekend at home this weekend in three weeks!
Will write more soon but wanted to say a few things for now:
1) People in the Midwest (Chi, Cami, & more), please be careful until the polar vortex moves on
2) NM, congrats on the new job! I am so glad that you have something better to move on to! A week off too, will you go somewhere or just relax around home with Miss Sadie?
3) Janky, take care of your lungs friend. Feel better soon.
4) Goldie, sorry to hear about your mom's decline.
5) Mema, sorry for all the challenges right now and your recent loss
More this weekend after I am more recovered. Still California dreamin' on such a winters day......
-
Good morning all!
Woke to sunshine, but still cold for us in the south. I cannot believe how cold it is in the Midwest. I talked with my cousin in South Dakota and she has not been outdoors in days. That would drive me crazy. I went to the Genetic Counselor yesterday. We are going to do a panel of 29 gene mutations. The hope is that we find one that can help with a targeted therapy. The Oncologist came inand we joshed back and forth about green smoothies (he does not like), the Israeli cancer cure (he doubts it) and what constitutes cold temps (he is from the Midwest). Played cards with girlfriends last night and wore my new wig. They were all amazed at how much I looked like the old me. Will go to lunch today with some work friends and catch up on all that gossip.
Congrats on the new job. So sorry for all the other challenges. Life can be hard at times. My siblings and I have mostly gotten along. My mother died a few years ago after a short health decline. She was miserable and wanted everyone to know it. Having the bad things to deal with just reminds me I am alive and kicking!
Have a great Thursday!!!!
