how about drinking?

Hi, Prissy--welcome!
Kim, Oberweis is a local (Chicago-area) dairy with a chain of ice cream/dairy product stores. Their eggnog and their dark chocolate ice cream (which they rarely have) are awesome.
Nobody in my family ever had breast or gyne cancers (nor pancreatic & colorectal). At my first MO appt. after my lumpectomy, I mentioned to her that I had read in Dr. Susan Love's Breast Book that anyone with Ashkenazi Jewish heritage and a breast cancer diagnosis should get genetic testing--and she called down to the Genetic Counseling dept. while I was still in her office. I tested negative.
We got about 6-7" of snow before it stopped around 2 pm. Calling for lake effect snow tomorrow, which by the very capricious nature of the direction of winds over the lake is extremely unpredictable. Bob stayed down near Midway last night to be close to Holy Cross where he had to read echoes early this a.m., and is staying over in Oak Lawn tonight because he already paid for it. Besides, he can take good showers in the hotels. The shower in the first floor bathroom is nonfunctional (lousy-to-no water pressure, despite pipe-clearing services) and we have to wait till at least tomorrow night for the new grout & caulk in the upstairs bathroom to cure. (I have had to take sponge baths at the bathroom sink, as well as wash my hair in the kitchen sink--there are limits as to how many days in a row I can use even the best dry shampoo).
Late Thurs. aft., as Bob was en route home, he got a last-minute invitation to do a survey interview near O'Hare. He wanted an early-ish dinner so he could go to sleep early, so after he dropped his car off in the garage I drove us out there. There's an Italian restaurant & steakhouse, Carlucci, where I'd always wanted to go after rave reviews. The portions were huge, the service attentive, and the prices quite reasonable--especially for steaks, which were about half the prices the Palm charges. I'll give the menu over at the "what's for dinner" thread. Drinks were a brut rosé bubbly (Bob had a Rusty Nail) and a really nice Brunello di Montalcino.
I stayed in all day yesterday. As I was about to go to bed, I went to my purse to retrieve my cellphone to charge it, and.....uh-oh, no phone! I realized that I must have left it in the car overnight, plugged into the power port. (Unlike some of my other cars, including Bob's Fusion, my Outback's power port is dead when the engine is off). It was still snowing too hard, and it was 2:30 am, so I decided to leave it in the car and let my Apple Watch take calls on its number (this watch has cell coverage with the same phone number as my iPhone). This afternoon, after my snow guy had come by and I had lunch, I threw on my sweats, boots & coat and headed out (another inch or two had fallen by then). Sure enough, there was the phone, still plugged into the car's power port. Amazingly, it still had 52% charge remaining!

LomLin, the BeneFit "They're Real"--even just the tinted primer--really lengthens my lashes.
-
Lom wowsa, that's a lot o snow! Hoping you don't have
Pack a pint glass with snow. Fill with prosecco about 3/4 full (or less if you like a more juicy mimosa). Top off with juice, leaving extra room at the top. Add a handful of fresh snow to finish and a straw or long spoon. an issues with the Tammy pill.
Prissy hi and welcome. We have a few other gals here in your neck of the woods. Sorry you have to be here at all, as none of us would. We can get to be a bit silly at times, but always here for one another. If you have any questions or concerns, I'm sure one of us has an answer!
Janky, that is cold for sure. I am so sorry to hear about your friends. Cancer just seems to be taking over the human race, as well as animals! And hitting such young people and children too.
JCS, they wouldn't give me genetic testing, said I was too old. I had asked for it because my DD was having some "female" probs. I hope it works miracles for you.
NM, are you buried?
DOTD... SnowMosa
Ingredients:
Orange Juice
Prosecco
SnowPack a pint glass with snow. Fill with prosecco about 3/4 full (or less if you like a more juicy mimosa). Top off with juice, leaving extra room at the top. Add a handful of fresh snow to finish and a straw or long spoon.

Mornin' Ladies,
Welcome Prissy u have joined a great bunch of women, not just interesting but fun when we need it. Hope u come back and share more about urself it's nice to get to know everyone.
Lori I hope today is better for u. See I told u when u hook up to one selling item, u get bombarded with all kinds, that's why I've tried a few , u know I'm no beauty but it feels nice ro have lashes again. Lori everytime Leslie sees different Drs. for all this chit they don't know why the last Dr.Did whatever. It's like they all went to school in different areas in Guatemala. I don't understand a thing , but then again have I ever.
OK Jazzy I don't understand about this job, it might end way before it was supposed to.?? ? But u have another on the line, U've had everything planned around these projects, jeez I hip it all works out.
Kim how are ur job things going, Iknow I've missed some posts. My puter used to go to the Ist one now it just goes will-nilly. Now we have 3 of us from the same area reporting our weather and yet sometime we don't get the exact weather, Lom-Lin and I get about the same.
BTW LomLin is ur nick name from the restaurant on St. Charles in Lombard, just sounds like it.
Lori I missed anything about ur skans. Yes I'm up for it too, but I take my time, u know that. U know how I never read junk about what they tell me, cuz I don't want to know. well this last time I did and see what happened, of course all my numbers are all screwed up so I looked up these things---within an hour I had every symptom that was possible to have, thats; the real reason I don't look anything up. Me bad.
Someone here <I'm sorry I forgot> said they were the first in the family to have cancer. . Wow to me that's so unusual, most of the women have had it, even my mom in the 50's. so when u felt a lump u just figured u had it. What a jolt to get it knowing no one else had it. It might have started before my mom, cuz before that the women didn't go to Drs. really and they all thought if u had the C word and got operated on it it would immediately spread thru ur body. My team of Drs. <my cousin, sister and myself> figured that's what they died from eventually cuz none of them had heart attacks they were sick for a while and got weaker and died. So we decided that's what they had. Cuz in my family we have more boobless women than we have boobs. My DD was the only one who tried recon but we all know how that's going---a great big mess, actually horrendous right now.
See I''m blabbering again I'm tired. I was falling asleep last nite, the phone rang and someone had a furnace not working, well I have to make like 3 calls then call back and I was wide awake and stayed awake, of course I woke the guys up but I don't care, they're young and it doesn't bother them. Even if it did bother them I still don' care if I'm up everyone is up.
OK another stupid thing, whenever I eat with regular silverware I still smell metal, so I still have metal mouth. So I'm still on plastic, one of my trivial nonsense that I spew out.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Sunday Funday!Sadie and I got up to 5 inches of new snow overnight, and still coming down pretty hard, but it is going from the very fine snow to bigger flakes, showing that it's warming up and getting ready to do the switch over to the sleet and freezing rain and rain we're supposed to get later. Got a good bit of wind behind it, visibility is pretty poor.Glad I don't have to go out today. Sadie had some fun nosing around in the snow this ayem, though.
LomLin--Now that qualifies as a snow storm! The idea of shoveling with wine breaksmade me giggle! I can see why it took all day.
Prissy--Welcome to the HTL!What's your favorite tipple?
Morning, Illi!
Janky--{{{{{hugs}}}}}
Librarian--I remember during the counseling for genetic testing being surprised to find out that other cancers like stomach cancer (my dad and his dad), pancreatic cancer (a maternal aunt), and some lung cancers (multiple aunts and uncles, both sides) are also associated with the BRCA 1 and 2 mutation, not just breast and ovarian cancers. My strongest qualifier was being diagnosed before age 50. I was actually surprised to get a "No Mutations Found" result. Snowing here in Maine, which means I get to have an adult beverage with lunch if the shoveling is caught up. That's my bribe to myself!
Chi--Ah ha!Oberweis must be similar to a couple of local dairies here that sell milk products. One farm makes fantastic chocolate milk, another makes fantastic ice creams. I remember from my college genetics and nursing education that Ashkenazi Jewish heritage is associated with some genetic conditions,Did you have just the BRCA testing or did you get the whole panel done? That restaurant sounds like a great find!
Goldie--Love the SnoMosa!May have to make one for myself this afternoon!Hmm, maybe even this morning? Not quite buried here, but it's coming down pretty good. It's gone back to the really fine stuff, and blowing, so very poor visibility.
-
Cami, you are beautiful to me, inside and out. So shut your pie hole!!!!LOL. Well, not really, cuz I love your long posts, and you aren't babbling. Poor Leslie with all she's gone through. What's going on now with her implants? Amazing how different the doctors can be….just shakin my head. And yes, I'm getting all kinds of mascara ads on my FB. Scary how that is. I too don't want to know the results of my scans. I guess that's one of the reasons I haven't had any in over 2 years. OMG, you still have metal mouth, now that's crazy.
NM, glad you don't have to go out, and hoping you don't have to go out tomorrow either, especially if it freezes. I too am the first in my family to have cancer, that we know of. However, both my parents are only childs. My maternal grandmother died at a young age, lots of medical issues and only one lung. Perhaps she had some sort of cancer, but was never diagnosed as such.
I may not be around for a few days. DH has dentist appt. tomorrow and I need to get labs done, then leaving at 6 am Tuesday morning to Phoenix for scans, and onc appt. on Wednesday. Home on Thursday, then heading to Moab for 4 days.
-
Happy Sunday to all us Loungettes! Still frosty cold here, another inside day I am thinking, so will make a pot of beef barley soup that will warm our insides!
Cami - I love your 'blabbering', don't stop...I luv your cats!
goldie - Your snowMosa sounds yummy, I may try it later as I do have plenty of snow
NM - I can see Sadie romping around - if it's not too cold our furbabies enjoy it so much!
Chi, Jazzy, JCS, illimae, Prissy, Lom and everyone else - stay warm, or cool, as the case may be, Cheers! Janice
-
Welcome to newbies: LomLin, Wigging, JCSLibrarian and Prissy. For you SC gals, will be heading to Isle of Palms in late May for annual week of beaching/dining out. We cannot wait, especially after the effects of storm Gia last weekend and now Harper. In greater Cincinnati area, the High is 16, but with wind chill feels like -5. Sandy - Even colder, snowier there in ChiTown. Jazzy - Lucky you, enjoy San Diego!
Cami - Love your cute pics!
Hi there to to Illi. Goldie - Hope you are over the "bug", feeling better & thanks for the SnowMosa recipe - this drink is on my "to do" list for sure.
I use the Benefit They're Real mascara and also their Gimme Brow for sparse brows, which is also a great product. Even though my brows are sparse from overplucking in my younger years, I visit the Benefit Brow Bar for waxing every few months - Believe they do the best job.
NativeMainer - You and Sadie stay warm!
Happy Sunday to everyone. (Had my usual Sunday coffee w/Chambord this am.)
-
Chi thanks for info on the mascara. I remember Oberweis delivering milk to our door step when I lived in Naperville as a kid. We had a metal box and they would put the bottles in there as well as take the empties when we were finishd! They had lots of cream on top with just a cardboard top inside the bottle neck.
Camillegal haha funny no but I stole their idea, I'm Lin (Linda) and live in Lombard, so LomLin. Funny thing about that restaurant, I really like their food, but don't have them deliver it. I thought people were savvy to Google maps or whatever other map they use. When they came to deliver my food they were across the street. When I saw her, I called out and asked if it was for my house number, and yes it was, she proceeded to cross the street, freaked me out, she could have gotten hit, she wasn't even looking, I live on a busy street (Westmore). Love your babbling too, at least you have people listening to you! What do you do in your job? Sounds like you are on call 24/7, which sucks!
Goldie, I had genetic testing in 2013 and then again in 2018, I was 64 in the last one. I can't imagine being 'too old' for the test. On both tests I was negative. But when I had the test done in 2013 I still got breast cancer. I guess being negative doesn't mean you won't get breast cancer anyway, just that you don't have the mutation.
Happy National Cheese Lover's Day!
-
Ashkenazi Jewish ancestry is also associated with Tay-Sachs, Gaucher's, Gilbert's and Canavan syndromes. I was tested for all of those (both my blood and amniocentesis) when I was pregnant. My medical genetic testing after my bc dx was for only the breast-cancer-related mutations. 23&Me confirmed I have no mutations or variants for anything other than Familial Mediterranean Fever. (It also says I or my relatives have an 80% chance of a space between the front upper incisors, a la model Jade Jagger or Chaucer's "Wife of Bath;" I don't have that space, but my sister definitely does).
Let's see: Snow? Check. Prosecco? Check. O.J.? Nope--just grapefruit juice (a no-no with letrozole) and cranberrry juice. But my snow guy just finished his second pass chez moi, so there's scattered ice-melt compound in that snow. However, it's perfect for chilling a bottle....
My DOTD (thus far) was an oat milk cappuccino (using the Nespresso & Aeroccino rather than my "prosumer" espresso rig, since my beans are stale). Quite yummy, nicely frothed, and more eco-friendly than dairy or almond milk...but carbier than either of them.
National Cheese Lovers' Day? Excuse me while I heat up the panini press.
-
Hi again..... Oh Lori ur so sweet. If u saw Leslie u'd get sick, well I did. The Dr. took her implant out <where the hole is> the other one is placed almost under her arm pit, she's actually deformed right now. They said that would be fixed after this infection clears. Ur traveling around a lot this week, just be safe.
LomLin I used to live at the Jackson Condos for years and worked then at the DMV right kiddycorner from my home, in the title and registration part as a <get this> supervisor, My boss one of my BF and still is would do maybe o ne evaluation and took us a day, cuz we LOLed all thru it. She was a serious boss til we worked together then we were both silly. But there were 4 of us very close again still are and we had fun every single day no matter how busy we were. Now I just anser phones for my cousins grandson who when I started had 3 men and me, after a few yrs the phones got so busy now he has 10 men and a couple of helpers, he bought a warehouse in Wheaton with an office, but I don't get around much so I take calls after hrs and on weekends. And I just stay home and as I've said before I just love this man, he's so good to me all the time, I got lucky with him. Now when I was a stripper, oh a whole other story......
Oh my eyes are closing, I think u call it blinking but extra long, so I shall take my leave.

The roast chicken Bob brought home came with mashed spuds, peas and chardonnay gravy. So I stuck a bottle of 2016 Fess Parker Chardonnay into a snowdrift to chill. It was a nice pairing--and I usually am an ABC ("anything but chardonnay") gal when it comes to white wines, except for white Burgundies.
Oh good grief--snow showers AGAIN?
-
Hi all! I’ve had 5 glasses of wine tonight and am giggling like a teenager, lol. Time to settle down and get some rest, DH and I are heading to a local park for a bike ride in the morning.
-
Good Morning, Loungettes!Final snow/sleet fall for my back deck was 4 1/2 inches. It was entertaining listening to the scanner with all the cars off the road and all the hijinks going on. One poor soul got pulled back onto the road after sliding off and then slid off again just as the wrecker got out of site.Fortunately the police were still there and called the wrecker back. I was also listening while a state trooper was following a car all over the road, tried to pull it over and the driver flashed a gun then took off. They chased the driver and 2 passengers to the local hospital, which they put on lockdown, but someone let them in anyway, and eventually subdued and arrested them inside the hospital, in the grandmother's room. So scary.Sadie has been quite happy to curl up under a blanket and warm my feed. Her trips outdoors have been rather quick yesterday and this morning.
Goldie--I did not have to go out yesterday and didn't. Sat in the house and listened to the scanner about the idiots that did go out. In your pocket for your scans and labs and appointment, praying for good results, then enjoy the trip to Moab!
Janky--Sadie didn't do much romping around later in the day after the wind picked up! But she will when it's not quite so bitter.
Celia--I had some Kahlua in my coffee yesterday afternoon!
LomLin--Less than 20% of breast cancers are due to genetic mutations, but the treatment can be very different if a person tests positive. Important for the family to know if the mutations are in the family.
Chi--That's a lot of testing to go through. Glad to know you have only the one problem to worry about. Funny how it can predict the front tooth gap, too!
Cammy--I feel so badly for Leslie. She must be miserable. I am praying she is infection free and able to get things fixed ASAP.
Illi--Glad to hear you are having a good time!
Igloo Cocktail
- Put about 2 cups of snow in a tall glass and pour 1 cup of lemonade on top of the snow.
- Add 3 oz. vodka to the top of the snow in the glass. Then, top the igloo cocktail with grenadine syrup.
- Don't mix the cocktail. The ingredients are meant to seep into the snow.

Good morning! Day 1 of tamoxifen here...hoping for nothing terribly nasty as a result of this drug that’s supposed to keep me cancer free. My daughter and I had a great time on the cheerleading weekend! We ate SO MUCH great food. But we also walked like 6 miles a day just running around downtown Charlotte. Lots of good memories made and that’s what it’s all about!
Illimae I laughed out loud at the wine giggles. I apparently have a “wine smile” that my friends can identify in pictures.
Welcome Prissy! SC girl here, down the road a bit from you.
ChiSandy you are making me desperately miss Oberweis! (I used to live dangerously near one of those in St Louis)
Janky-hugs, I am so sorry to hear about your friend’s diagnosis. There are far too many of us. Cancer is everywhere and I’ve always thought that “life” causes cancer.
Celia maybe I’ll come have a drink with you on the Isle of Palms..! Ever eat at Poe’s on Sullivan’s Island?
Goldie no snow for the snowmosa here but I did have a lovely Bellini at brunch yesterday!
I will work on before and after photos with the blinc mascara...for me what I love about it is that the “tubes” on your lashes don’t smear. Everything smears on my lashes for some reason.
Love to all- gotta get up and move around before the tamoxifen gives me a blood clot (wink)
-
Mornin Ladies,
Illi LOL wear 2 helmets on ur ride this morning.
Kim our dog is so funny in the snow, we go to let her out se takes one step and turns around. We have to have a path for her or so far she just holds it. see sadie is a whatever kind of pet, which is great, ours is my terms type of pet. Kim u listen to more stuff than TV has on.
Janky I too am so sorry to hear about ur friend.
Wiggin Good luck with Tamoxifen, some women have done very well on it, I hope u do too. Oh I want to see the blinc one too, I've seen it and I wonder, I just saw that ad on FB with the tubes. So let us know. The one thing I've noticed is all of them have the same models, so r they made under different names and sold at different prices. Aha another mystery.
Joey is home today and we had our first talk this morning about his :date: last nite I enjoy all of our conversations as u know, so it was kinda funny to me. First dates are so cute.
How's our gadabout gal <Jazzy> Never know where or what she's doing. But she sure has fun. And she should.
Oh Sandy I like how u keep ur wine cold, good idea. LOL
Have a great day ladies.

I am following all of your posts on mascara. I don't think my eyelashes are the same as they were before chemo.
I was tested because when I got bc I had two cousins (sisters) that had it and they were tested because they were diagnosed within days of each other, and I was about a month later. One of them was positive and one was negative, the other 2 sisters got tested and 1 was positive and the other negative. I was negative. So weird how that works.
I am treating myself to a glass of wine and piece of dark chocolate in the evenings, the combination always makes me feel like I am in some luxury spa.
Stay warm, we are cold here in Florida this week.
-
Back from the yoga retreat and back to work for a few days before trip #2! Great time this weekend with fellow yogis. There was wine drinking involved, for those of you on FB with me, you will see the pics, the rest of you will have to wonder as I like to be incognito here.....
The food (top), our dining area (middle), our yoga circle (bottom).
Dang, I just saw the most spectacular pic on FB of the eclipse last night and will have to post that here too. I saw it here from NM, but did not do photos. It was peaking about the time I went to bed.
-
Lake effect snow kept us from seeing any of the moon--eclipse, red color, size, you name it. Did look at some of the livestream.
Official snowfall total in my 'hood was 9 inches. Supposed to get wintry mix tomorrow (starting as sleet, then rain, then snow) followed by single-digit temps. Ugh.
Didn't actually do much testing on me: one appt. with one blood draw for the medical genetic testing; and just spitting into a little vial for the 23&Me. Both labs did the lion's share of the work.
-
Ok, why are these so huge???? I'm terrible at taking photos of myself, so I've discovered. You ladies would have enjoyed my antics trying to take these
Here is my eye before and after Blinc. Like I said, it also does not smear or come off, even the bottom lashes.
-
Gorgeous, Wigging! (not just the results, but your eyes). Same with Benefit They're Real (the tinted primer).
Would take some pics now, but I'm tired of having to go through the rigmarole of converting the new native "HEIC" iPhone format (which this site won't accept--I get a box with the word "true" in lower case in the lower right corner) to .jpeg. Before updating my iPhone 8+ to iOS 12, my phone simply took .jpegs. All I had to do to post one here was click the "insert image" icon in the toolbar above the comment window, click "choose file," go to Downloads, highlight the file and click "Choose." Maybe there's something in "Settings" several layers deep to choose the file format in iOS 12. What I have to do now is take the pic, AirDrop it onto my MacBook (or mail it to myself), go into Photos and click Export to my Desktop. Only then do I get the drop-down file format menu.
-
ChiSandy that sounds like a total nightmare with the photos! Software updates are evil!!!
-
Wigging, you have beautiful eyes without the mascara.
ChiSandy, that's a lot of snow. Looks like a lot of snow falling for a lot of you. Hope you all stay safe and warm.
-
That mascara looks wonderful. I will get some while I still have eyelashes. Went with my husband to the cardiologist (his doctor) today. I had a scarf on my head, but did put makeup on so I did not look too pale and sickly. They were all so surprised at my diagnosis. Kept saying I did not look like a person going through chemo. Except for the hair loss. 🤪 Anyway, getting out is a positive thing for me. I pick up my wig tomorrow. It will be interesting to have that as a headgear choice.
Stay warm and dry everyone! I am enjoying a glass of wine while I watch the Lady Gamecocks play B-ball. Enjoying the small things.
-
Wigging - Your lashes and eyes are beautiful ! I truly hope that Tamoxifen goes easy on you and keeps you cancer free!
illi - I had 4 beer today, no reason - just because :0 I feel good and giggly too! (make sure your helmet is secure)
mistyeyes - where is Homassa relative to Sarasota or Frostproof Florida? East coast or West coast? I am heading WestCoast way at the beginning of March - so looking forward to Florida :0
Jazzy - your retreat looks/sounds like a great one! The moon was fabulous!
NM - Like Sadie, I would not be romping too much either, the wind really puts a damper on playing outside.
Hoping and wishing best for all of us - Cheers!
-
Great Janky, we don’t always need a reason to enjoy a drink.
Oh, no bike ride today after all. While having coffee, I noticed the sound of water running in pipes in the wall but no shower or sink was being used. Further investigation led to running water from a drain, the hot water heater drain. Ugh, DH had to climb around in the attic and finish draining it, then install a new one tomorrow. I’ll just go to the gym for now.
-
Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Twofer Tuesday! 1 below the donut, with wind chill of 21 below the donut this ayem, it is COLD out there! So glad to have Sadie in the bed with me last night!
Wigging--Good for you for Day 1 of Tammy Therapy! Many women have little or no side effects from it, may you be one of them. Sounds like the weekend was a great one, with good memories. So important.
Cammy--Is your dog a little one? I can imagine how cold it must be for the little ones to wade through snow to find a place to piddle, I'd want a path, too! Joey had his first date?! Wow, hope it went well for him.
Misty--weird the way the genetic testing worked out in your family. Nice having a home spa treatment, isn't it?
Jazzy--Wow, that food and place looks marvelous! Love the rustic wood table.
Chi--9 inches is a lot of snow.
Wigging--Wow, what a difference!
Chi--don't you love how the way things gets done gets changed from easy to complicated?
Librarian--Pretty good when you can fool people into thinking you are not getting chemo!
Janky--cold is one thing, windy cold is a totally different thing! And not a fun one!
Illi--YIKES, hope the water didn't cause any problems other than the inconvenience of tracking it down.Or does the entire hot water heater need to be replaced?
Winter Margarita
"It's just like a traditional margarita, but with an egg white. And we split the base between reposado tequila and mezcal. It gives you those summer flavors, but with the thickness of the body and the smoke of the mezcal."
Ingredients:
• 1 oz reposado (slightly aged) tequila
• 1 oz mezcal (like Del Maguey Vida)
• 1 oz lime juice
• .75 oz simple syrup
• 1 egg white
Directions:
Shake ingredients without ice, then shake again with ice. Strain into a coupe glass and serve up

Good morning friends- back to work yesterday and getting things done to be ready to go on my next trip Thursday night. No word on the contract maybe ending in a couple weeks, but heard someone pretty major related to the operational team I work with resigned and is leaving the same day my contract could end. Well, that may buy me a bit more time as they may not want to loose me and him at the same time. But I don't assume anything either. No I don't want to stay too long, but if this buys me more time to finish some things by early to mid- March and get something new in place to go to quickly, all the better. My focus is to get through the next couple days and then will be heading to Cali on Thursday evening (whoot). Stay tuned for more of "as Jazzy's world turns..."
Lots of great eclipse photos, but here is my fav. Not sure where it was taken but think here in the southwest.
