Neesie...at one of our luncheons...can you believe that???

Weren't Geri and ConnieSue signing a card at one of the get-togethers and noticed the family names and found out they were related? It's a small world.
No, I'm not going to a family reunion. It's an "all classes - school reunion". The big event is on Saturday and smaller groups are meeting again on Sunday. DH and I went to the same high school and have been together since we were "babies".
Have fun at your family reunion, Not-Me! I wish we were related. You have a nice family! Mine is another story. That is so sweet about your daughter and fiance.
Is it looking like August 24th is a good day? I'm in for helping out at Kay's if she wants us. Anyone familiar with the Fenton area?

Hi All Michigan Ladies - Newbies and Oldbies!!!
August 24 seems like a good day to me too. Nancy, I will definitely bring pictures of the newest grandbaby, Isabella (Izzy) and the other three too - of course!!!! It seems like such a long time since I've seen everyone. I sure wish Mary (Kats) could come - and all of our other "adopted Michigan gals" as well. I know what you mean, Nancy, about being sucker-punched with all of the bad news lately. It is just so so sad.
Well, let's see how this date flies then.
Hugs,
Pat

Hi All,
August 24 works for me depending on location.
Iris - Welcome to the MI site - so nice to see you again on the boards. You have been missed,
Faith - Neesie said it best - we have enough love to go around for all of you. And yes we will share beary sweet Iris.
Not me - The lighthouse weekends sound so rewarding - wish I was closer to one. I would love to volunteeer at one. How neat of your DD to donate to BC instead of wedding gifts - love that idea!
Nancy - I agree with you on the recent losses here - so very sad and hard to come to the board some days. I have met a lot of great women here and have gained so much by knowing them. It would be hard for me to leave.
Leaving for vacation on Saturday for a motorcycle trip - see you all when I get back.
Happy Trails

I did get my last chemo Wednesday so I am at least a Chemo Survivor. The down time is starting right now, very tired, sore eyes and a little icky, but at least it's the last time. I am so relieved.
Sounds like you all are having a tough time trying to get together. Good luck with that. Us Michiganders have to stick together. You all sound like such strong and amazing gals and I love being a part of this group. Thanks Mary
-
Popping on to give Mary a big YAHOO and doing the happy dance for her!!!!!!!!!!!!! You go girl....now rest and get some strength back................Michigan Friends orders!!
Our get together will come together .......... it just takes awhile, especially in summer, to throw a couple dates out there.................then it just happens!
Neesie

Mary...hoping you are feeling well!!!
8-24...who's in??? -
I'm in. Surgery scheduled for Aug 4 so should be all better (well maybe not all better but good enough to come). Look forward to meeting everyone. Are we still going to do potluck and has a decision been made as to location?
Wendy

Hi Everyone,
I'm in for the 24th. If we do a pot luck, can I bring the paper goods? I'm not real good in kitchen.
Irene
-
Hi Everyone, I am in for the 24th. I am starting my chemo on Monday 7/21, so by 8/24 I will be needing some fun. I will be watching for the location. Looking forward to meeting everyone.

Who are the two who live in Clinton/Troy????????? My DD lives at 16 and VanDyke.......I was reading and just saw it, but now I can't!!
I'm in for the 24th. Just let me know where, what and when!
Neesie

The 24th looks like a good date for most of us, right? Let's pick a place. Anyone familiar with Kensington Park? I could get us around Hudson Mills but that might be a long haul for most of you.
Maybe we can find a map online for Kensington. I'll look around and get back here soon.
Nancy

Hi to all of you MI friends!
Just wanted to say thanks for allowing me to visit with you! Have a great get-together! I am going to visit MI one day as I would love to see your area.
Just wanted to say hi!
Iris
-
Hi Everyone. Iris, let us know when you are in Michigan and we will plan a get-together.
Has anyone visited Huron Meadows Metro Park in Brighton?
http://www.metroparks.com/parks/pk_huron_meadows.php#
I have never been there but the Kensington map makes the place look huge and I don't have a clue about where to meet. Huron Meadows has paddle boat rentals which sounds like fun. It looks small so it may be packed. Any suggestions? Hudson Mills is in Dexter if you want to consider there.
Nancy
-
I have been to Kensington a few times...yes it is huge and there will be alot of people there on Sunday in August. I have also been to the Huron Metro Park once...and can't remember a whole lot about it. I think we took out our canoe there. Either place is fine...we will want to have a plan B in case it rains (known to happen in MI). Maybe plan B is that if the weather if for-casted bad (should know the day before) that we scrape the picnic and meet at a restaurant instead. But I just know the weather won't be bad!!!
-
Hi girls...........I haven't been to either park so I'm no help. I do agree with Not-Me about the Metro parks being packed on a Sunday in August! I really don't have any suggestions....whatever we do will be nice...cuz we will be together.
Plan B....there are alot of new restaurants in the Brighton area. So if we have typical "plan something and it will rain" MI weather it would be easy to move it inside!

I am In Westland, Ford Rd. and 275 area.
Where even you pick is good for me. My family is not allowing me to drive more than 5 or 10 miles. hehehehehe. So one of them will be driving, I can't image they will be letting me go off by myself.
-
Hi ALL,
24th works for me.
Iris - I like your new bear avatar. When you visit MI we will roll out the red carpet for you and have a big party.
hugs

I'm in for 8/24.
Kensington is a large park, BUT it basically is one road that makes a circle around the lake. If you secure a pavillion ahead of time, the rangers at the gate will direct people to the site. You also are allowed to put out direction signs ie: BC.ORG with an arrow.
KINDE- We must live really close to each other. I'm in Westland, boxed in the middle between Ford/Cherry Hill and Wayne/Venoy. My email addy is rockysmom@wideopenwest.com. Feel free to contact me if you need anything! I am currently laid off and would be happy to drive you to run errands or whatever.
-
Wow..it has been a while! Miss you guys This site has changed!
How are all of you??? I have been working at my plastic surgeons office and LOVIN' it! But it does steal away my time for the computer.....
Are you all planning a get together at Kennsington? I just had a training walk there for the 3 Day and it was SO nice!
Hugs to all

Susielou..............I was just about ready to put out a Missing Person Report on you! Glad all is okay with you!
24th sounds like the date............Rockeysmom.......can you secure a pavillion for us???? Please, pretty please!
Hoping all have a great weekend!!

Hi ALL,
Oh no Park Rangers - will I have to show my ID? LOL
Got into trouble once from trespassing at a park. I just wanted a picture of the lighthouse. Coast Guard Rangers or whatever you call them asked to see my ID. I was not very cooperative and Mr. Ranger was not pleased with me for not wanting to show him my ID.
Susielou - Nice to hear from you again.
Rockysmom - How long do you expect to be laid off? At least the weather is nice.
So what is everyone bringing to the picnic? Neesie - are you bringing your famous beans?
Wings
-
OK, I just came home from Kensington Metropark
There is only one pavillion available for the 24th. I could have signed up for it then , but I didn't know it costs $125 !!!!! to reserve. yikes. If you think we want a pavillion I can call her and reserve it. I chatted a bit with the gal in the office. There a lot of nice picnic areas with tables and grills, shade, sun, whatever you'd like. She said it's not too hard to get a nice picnic spot if you're there by noon. Anyway- I liked a couple of places- my question to you all- Do you want the side of the lake with the beach and paddle boat rentals? OR, the side of the lake with a beach and jumbo water slide?
The beach areas themselves do not have picnic areas, but there are nice areas not too far from either beach. I didn't know if you are planning on just hanging out at the picnic area, or checking out the beaches/boats, etc. There's biking, hiking, skating, etc on the really nice trail. If you are on wheels, you must wear a helmet.
We are allowed to post directional signs, and I can register us at a specific picnic area if you'd like so the rengers willknow where to direct you in the park. We can also put up canopies, screen tents, as long as you can "see through" them- so just no 'tents' Beer and wine are allowed EXCEPT for at the the beaches
You can google Kensington Metropark and see a map of the place.
One real nice area (also where the available pavillion is) is just inside the Kent Lake Road entrance. Letter A. On the other side of the lake I liked area F.
Take a look and see what you think. Let me know if I should rent a pavillion. (I don't really think it's necessary- there's plenty of nice areas and picnic tables and bbq grills- and if it's a real bad weather day, we'll probably prefer to go to a restaurant anyway ???)
-
I'm saying pavillion not necessary!!!!!!!!! That's a bit pricey, eh? You go ahead and pick which ever spot is nice......we trust you! I don't know if anyone is planning on water sports or not.......but this girls Bikini is staying home!
Hugs,
Neesie

Kensington will be a beautiful place. I have a 10x10 canopy that I could bring and some folding tables. Maybe others have the canopies too. They are really easy to set up, we use it at car shows. How do you want to do the pot luck? I've been to ones where they divide up the alphabet so we don't end up with all potato salad. Usually it's divided into three parts; munchies; salads and/or entrees; desearts. I don't know the alphabet make-up so just let me know what to bring. I'm so excited to meet everyone! I live in the 6 Mile/Haggerty/I-275 area if anyone needs a ride. This is assuming I'm going to be able to drive by then. Surgery is Monday, the 4th. Should be in Providence in Southfield until Friday, Lord willing. I would really appreaciate everyones prayers.
God bless you all,
Wendy
-
Rockysmom: Thanks for checking this out. I'm with neesie - pick a place for us that you like and we will be there! No, a pavilion will not be necessary.
Wendy, the canopy sounds like a nice idea. I'll help assemble. Good luck with your surgery on the 4th. I have a rolling cooler so I was thinking of bringing a big fruit salad or something that needs moderate cooling. I am not handy in the kitchen but have a few thing I can make that are fool-proof. I'm open for suggestions if you want to go with an alphabet idea. If you need a ride, I'm coming from the West side and we could meet around 275 or I can pick you up. But, I don't think the canopy will fit in my little Yaris.
If anyone needs a ride, give me a yell, Kinde5069?
How many people are coming?
Wings - We'll bail you out if the Rangers come after ya!
Rockysmom - Check your snail mail. I sent you the New Balance certificates for your fundraising. They sent them to me since you gave your big contribution to the Team. You should get them instead.
Chris - How was your reunion? A co-worker had a family reunion the same weekend.
Mary6204 - How did chemo go? Are you up to meeting us?
neesie - One of my best friends lives around 16 and VanDyke in a condo. Wouldn't it be a hoot if your DD was a neighbor?
Looking forward to seeing you guys soon!
xxxooo
Nancy -
Wendy- I'll be coming straight up 275 from Ford Road. I'd be more than happy to pick you up- or anyone else in the general 275 area!
I'm not much on knowing how to do a potluck-lol- I'm usually told what to bring!
Nancy, a fruit salad sounds yummy, great for hot summer days.
they do have charcoal grills too. Do we want to grill hot dogs and burgers?
One idea would be for everyone to bring their own "main " food (dogs, burgers, whatever), and then some kind of something else to pass around.(?)
Anyone here good at "planning" ?
Wings- do you still have the Wings of Hope sign you made for the walk ? We could use that at our spot so everyone can find us
Will everyone know us if we use Wings of Hope for our direction signs? I can make one or two to post on the road as directors.
If you don't want to be sitting at a picnic table the whole time, bring your lawnchairs!
Good luck with the surgery Wendy. Will be keeping you in my thoughts.
I'll remember to keep checking in here more often to see what's happening
