I'm just speechless to have my name included. Thank you BonBon. I am indeed there with you in spirit.
Be inspired. Be motivated. Appreciate the investment of all that energy. Soak up some for me.

That's a great idea, Wings! I think you've been hanging around Faith to long though......................Nessie is that big green monster!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm Neesie or as Faith spells it...........nEEsie!
Hugs,
Neesie

If it is not too late...can you add Barb and Connisue? I don't think either is walking this year.
I am looking forward to seeing everyone. I hope to get there early and I hope we can meet up afterwards for lunch. If I recall...Hockey Town didn't even have that many people the last few years. I am not sure why they wouldn't make reservations!
-
Neesie - Thanks for the correction! How long have I been spelling Neesie incorrectly? - so sorry!
Wings
-
Oh, the names on the sign is such a nice idea. I love how you guys have so much spirit for Wings of Hope! You get me motivated and I'm really looking forward to tomorrow.
I think our caravan will be getting there at 8:00 a.m. That may be too late for the Team Meet lot. Can we meet at the Survivor's Cafe? You guys like to catch the opening ceremonies and get your goodies so I don't want you to miss that. I like the bagpipes myself.
Irene - you bringing your camera? I really want to be sure everyone gets their butterflies. (So I don't have to carry them
)
Our best bet with Hockey Town is to be around there when they open. Timing works out with the race ending so I think we should be good. We should have about 25 or so!
Denise - you are coming from the West side so I think Linda's route will work for you.... 96 East to 94 East to 10 South. You avoid 75 completely.
I found a map of parking downtown online yesterday at work. Of course I'm at home today so I'll try and dig it up and post it.

Chris - I added Barb & Connisue - thank you for submitting their names. I do remember meeting them at the luncheon.
Nancy - Survivors Cafe work for me. Is your cell # the same as last year? If not would you PM just in case - thanks.
Hi NEEsie
Wings

Hi,
Yep, Nancy, I'll be bringing my camera. Hope it doesn't rain.
There is an MDOT memo on the RFTC web site that gives what appears to be simple directions to avoid the construction. Go to: http://www.karmanos.org/detroitraceforthecure/index.asp and click on Race Day Construction Update.
I can't believe they're having two big events at the same time while having 75 closed. And they wonder why people hate to go to Detroit.
I'm going to try to get there early so I can get my free stuff and put it back in my car so I don't have to carry it all. Well, okay, so Bret doesn't feel he has to carry it.
So meeting at the Cafe works for me.

Here is the parking map:
http://www.detroitlions.com/photos/FordFieldParking_08.pdf
Wings - I'll send you a message with my cell phone number. I think it's the same number, different phone, but I'm not sure.
Loch Neesie - I had to read 10 pages of the Beach post to find out what was happening with your teeth! I'm not a regular there but what a nice group.
Faith - I couldn't picture 40,000 people. That is unbelievable. That is probably how many will be stuck on I-75 tomorrow! Love all the baby pics.
Irene - I'm counting on your pics but I'll bring my camera also. Thanks for the link.
Chris - Sorry I missed you this morning. Unless I hear from you today before noonish, I'll catch you at the Survivor's Cafe tomorrow.
I'll keep checking in this morning. If anyone wants my cell phone, let me know.
-
Ladies- there's no need to carry your stuff around or run back to your car!!!!! That is why UPS is there. You can give them your stuff- they will bag it and tag it and all you have to keep is the tag# to pick it up later. Kind of like a "coat check" only for your "stuff". It's really a great service.
Just look for the UPS trucks
See you all tomorrow
-
Hi Ladies!
Hope this weather holds out for tomorrow!
The survivors Cafe works for me............I think I might be staying at Daughters tonight..............they have tickets for the Pistons game and I'd like her to go.....................but sure do wish it was another night.............Denise and No Sleep doesn't make a pretty picture!
I'm going to check out the alternate routes now.........thanks for posting them!
See everyone in the morning in the big city.........................by the way.....it's 'Red Bulls' and not 'Bull Dogs' coming to Detroit..........whoever, they are in airplanes and going really fast!
Denise
-
Oh great.........I'm lost before I even leave...........can't open either Nancy's or Irene's links!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Denise
-
Just a quick shout out to everyone before tomorrow's race. I'll be thinking of you all....wish I could be there. I hope the weather holds out.
wingirl- Thanks so much, that's awesome to be included on the sign with such a great bunch of MI gals.
rockysmom- Thanks for putting aside a bopper and pin for me.
Captain Nancy- Thanks for including me with the butterfly wand.
Irene- Bob says Hi and also says sorry that he's not going to be there to help carry your packages
)
I'll be checking back to see some pics........
Mary

Hi Anna Marie,
Good to hear from you. Yes, chemo brain is very real. I definitely cannot multi-task like before. Our support group meetings are the 4th Tuesday of each month at 7 pm at Pipp Hospital in Plainwell. Anyone else in SW Michigan? Please feel free to join us. We did great in the Race. Had 25 survivors and 35 participants. Raised over $4,000 this year. I have a picture of me walking with Sen. Fred Upton. He joined in at the end of the Race. I wish all of you well in your walk. I'll be cheering you on.

Hi Everyone! I've been dying to post but didn't have internet connection all weekend. I spent a couple of hours under my desk looking for the problem and finally called Charter and found out they disconnected us! Grrrrr!
I had a wonderful time at the Race and want to thank all of you! Everyone was so sweet thanking me and I was speechless. But, the team was ALL OF US - WINGS OF HOPE and you guys did everything! I didn't do anything special. I'm actually uncomfortable being put in the spotlight because I've overcome adversity. We all have and my 'stuff' is pretty boring. But, my sweet friend, Carol is all heart and she is my family - just so you know where she is coming from.
I also have pictures but haven't looked at them or taken them off the camera yet.
Linda - looking forward to seeing your pictures with Senator Fred. Please post them.
Can you believe that crowd? I don't think I took my camera out when we were packed together so I didn't get a crowd shot. It was beautiful weather and glad we all eventually found each other. Neesie - did you find your way home?
xxxxooo to everyone!

This was hard to find.... If you would like to give your donors a tax receipt:
http://www.karmanos.org/detroitraceforthecure/releases/Friends_LARGE%20RECEIPTS_2008.pdf
-
Nancy- THANK YOU for finding the receipt page. I had 2 people that requested receipts and couldn't figure out where to do it.
thanks a bunch.
I haven't downloaded any pictures yet. hopefully some time in the next couple days. Is there anyone who wishes to not have their picture posted?
Chris- remember- sockguy.com ! they have "cancer sucks" in pink and black, and one more I forget what it said-duh . Look under "new". They're a bit expensive, but I think it's worth it. they also send portion of each sale to bc research.
I had a great time. I'm only sorry I didn't have more time to get to know you all better. I'll try to get to some of the get togethers in the future!
-
Hey Michiganders! What a great day for the walk...........50,000 people....woohoo!
Nancy........You deserve a big "yahoo"..........you do put our team together for us each year and do all the brain work and leg work..............so don't be uncomfortable.......get used to it!! We love ya!
Yes, DD and I got home without any problems! I could not believe where the directions took us to get there! She lives about 30 minutes from Detroit and we were on the road for a bit over 2 hours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She was getting upset, cuz she got me there late...............Certainly wasn't her fault...............but it did cut into my time with all of you..............atleast we caught up to you during the walk!!
I did miss the team photo shoot........so hoping someone will post pics!
Off to the GYN today..............and (No, Nancy) I will NOT be asking him any questions!!!!

Thanks Rockysmom...............what a great pic! I'm the invisible one in the back of the group..........(eating crow for being wayyyyyyyy late!)
Hugs,
Neesie
-
It looks like I have Popeye mouth in the picture. LOL
Nancy - Thank you for being our Captain and guiding us towards another great year. How was Hockey Town lunch? Sorry we could not join this year. It was nice seeing your skinny friend Carol again - she is our little mascot.
Rockysmom - You outdid yourself on the boppers and Wing pins - Kats-Mary would be proud of you.
Chris - I am so jealous of you and DH "living" at the lighthouse. I will have to check into the wkend living.
Irene - Looking forward to seeing your pictures.
Neesie - It sure was an obstacle course finding 75 - once we got out of Detroit - Sterling Heights was a breeze. Had lunch w/ DD and her boyfriend at Mongolian Barbecue - love that place.
Hugs to all.

I so wanted to go downtown to the Race this weekend but it is a bit too soon for me I think. I am also a Michigan girl but not one of your group and wanted to say hi and how wonderful you all look in your proud Pink! 50,000 showed up wow... I had no idea. I plan on going next year probably with my sisters is it always the same weekend????
Oh a teacher from my daughter's school has a team too. She is a two time bc survivor I believe.
-
Hi Kimbly and welcome.
You and your sisters should join our "team" next year. We were talking at the race about how we needed more people for our team!
I haven't been to one yet, but a lot of these ladies have luncheon/dinner get togethers from time to time. Feel free to join in if theres anything in your area.
The race is NOT always the same week end. Last year it was in June.
I have more pictures to post, but having a hard time getting them here. hmph. I made a slideshow but it doesn't want to copy/paste.
Will try to figure it out later.
-
I will definately keep that in mind for next year!!! I am in Southeastern Michigan just a mere 15-20 minutes from downtown Detroit.
I would love to see more pics!
-
Welcome Kimbly! Sorry you had to find us,,,,,but glad that you did. The walk is always fantastic! This was my 5th. one and I plan on 20 more......unless they find a cure for this beast.....then I will gladly stay home!
Where in the Southeast do you live? We're scattered, but manage to meet for lunch a few times a year...............Novi area, Brighton area....try to go where most can meet! Give us a try, you're bound to love us!!
Neesie
-
Welcome Kimbly - C'mon and join us some time. We don't bite - not too hard. Our group is from all over but we manage to get together several times a year and always have a great time.
Wings - A Popeye mouth? At least you have lips. Believe me, you look great. We need to have Susielou price lips for me. Where is Susielou?
I have a few pics to post. There is a nice one of Rockysmom, Not-me and family and Skinny Carol (SC) and family. SC's mom had breast cancer but I didn't know that all her aunts on her mom's side had it and 3 died young. I suggested that SC, Maria and the other sisters get gene tested but they are afraid to do it. Maria had a funny mammogram story at Hockey Town and I was trying to remember the details of Neesie's gyn story but forgot it! We will have to save them for our next gathering.
I am having a hard time posting the pics. What the heck, what changed?
