Shirley,
I agree. When I spoke to him later, he just laughed and said it doesn't matter what Obama does, he's got this election won.
Whatever fairy dust is in the air, it didn't seem to hit my area of town yet. It is quite unusual for people to vote for someone who announces their intention to hike taxes and yet everyone applauds. This has to be an out of body experience, better said would be: out of my mind experience.

Linda, I have seen the film maker that did the documentary on Fox. I am looking forward to seeing it. Is this going to be put on a DVD that we can buy?
Rosemary, I bought Dick Morris and his wife's book, Fleeced. I realize many people do not like him, but what I have read so far is quite scary. Morris and his wife tells us how BO plans on raising taxes, and what will happen. By saying he will be giving the middle class people a tax break is just keeping Bush's tax cut. Of course there's much, much more. Reading his Health Care Plan scares me to.
I wish our children could see through Obama. Heck, not just children but "adults" as well. The only thing I can do is keep talking and vote.
I've only spoken to a few friends about BO and McCain, and my friends are definitely against BO. We'll be going to my bil's on Saturday. I will somehow try to bring up the subject. It will be interesting to see what they say. I really need to have some material printed to hand them in case they leaning toward Obama. LOL One of my dh's brothers doesn't have insurance for he nor his wife. It irks me because we choose what we can/want to pay for. They chose to build a house in the mountains..a place to vacation. He's an architect, and she does some bookkeeping. I know individual plans cost more. We had wonderful insurance before this year. I've already talked about how I hate my NOW insurance...large deductible before they'll even kick in to help with prescriptions....$743 for 90 days of Arimidex out of our pockets, plus many other meds. It's going to send us to the poor house, but I have to accept it's better than NO insurance. But I'll gripe about it anyway.
Yes, Linda, I'm one of those "whiners." LOL...about my insurance. But, I know what you mean by what Graham said. And I believe he stated it poorly. Hannity tried to defend him by saying that we are whiners..wanting the government to solve all of our problems. But at this time he certainly shouldn't have made that comment with gas prices so high...people are really hurting from that. I do believe we, in this country, have had it very good, and now that things are getting really rough we're scared. And, of course, we blame everything on Bush...I mean "they" blame.....LOL
There was a poll taken on AOL asking who do you trust more on foreign policy...results...McCain 63% and Obama 37%. How can Obama be ahead or so close to McCain with these results? I don't get it!

Shirley,
That snarly snake did everything in his power to end Clinton's campaign and now he's worried about an Obama Presidency. That's the point, the pundits loved doing Clinton in and now we're getting to see the real alternative for the first time. One pundit yesterday even said this is the real Obama. He is more to the right then the left. I'm not making this stuff up. And he applauds his coming out. Oh, give me a break. What they won't say and do. They're going to vote for a person who can't stand up for his own convictions.
Well, anyway this is fun:

We don't have to worry about our next congress stimulating the economy by creating more debt. That will be taken care of pronto. Just what we need, borrow more money from China to fix our infrastructure. If the congress did in fact, promote spending through thoughtful projects, and not the get rich quick schemes for some, we probably wouldn't have had the levees breaking.
We have plenty of places to spend money that would create jobs and stimulate the economy, but as I listen to our Senate right now, they are about to give $50 BILLION to Africa and other nations over the next 5 years. Small pocket change for a country that is trillions in debt. $50 BIL means nothing to us anymore. I wonder how much it would have cost to get those levees in proper condition? One could get sick over this stuff if one keeps their channel on C-SPAN.
-
This is what they should be debating today, but only a few showed up for the debate. Tomorrow will be the actual voting:
Reauthorization Legislation Threatens Successful PEPFAR Program While both the House and Senate reauthorization bills more than triple funding from $15 billion over five years to $50 billion, they irresponsibly simultaneously eliminate the critical priority of funding on treatment that characterizes the current program, and expand the focus and scope of this HIV/AIDS program to an unaccountable menagerie of loosely related development and poverty programs. The current Senate reauthorization bill:
- Eliminates the requirement for providing life-saving treatment.
- Triples the funding, but only increases the treatment target by 50%.
- Diverts funding from the poorest and neediest countries to richer countries with space exploration and nuclear programs, including Russia, China, and India;
- Expands the scope of the bill from HIV/AIDS treatment, prevention and care to include every poverty and development program under the sun, such as: agriculture, schools, legal aid, gender empowerment, lobbying, microfinance, sanitation, and community food aid (as opposed to just critical nutritional support for patients on anti-HIV medications)
- Doubles the U.S. contribution to the U.N. affiliated Global Fund to Fight HIV/AIDS, TB, and Malaria despite the Fund's drug quality problems, administrative corruption, and ability to bypass U.S. laws and policies on abortion, needle exchange, and prostitution/trafficking.
Senators Coburn, Demint, Burr, Vitter, Chambliss, Bunning and Sessions wrote Republican Leader Mitch McConnell, asking him to protect their rights to object to movement of the House or Senate global AIDS reauthorization bill, which turns the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) from a succesful, $15 billion program to care and treat people with AIDS in the poorest countries into a $50 billion global development slush fund.

The money we give to Africa does not always go to who it's intended for. Look what's going on in Zimbabwe. Their "president" lives like a kind, while the people have nothing. My kids just got back from there and they say that S. Africa will become a Zimbabwe. Sad indeed.
We could certainly use those billions to our people right here in this country. And, accordiong to Michelle Obama, "America is a downright mean country."
Did anyone watch his speech yesterday? I wanted to throw up AGAIN. He keeps changing his mind. He says he'll have the troops out 16 months, then he changes his mind and says something else. Then today he again says he'll have our troops out in 16 months. Put more in Afghanistan and even go into Pakistan to get the Taliban. WHAT? And the most disgusting part of it is he hasn't even gone to Iraq yet. Why is he going to Iraq if he's already made up his mind?
And WHY is he still wearing the flag pin?
I loved that the prez put drilling in Congress' hands. Pelosi et al are mad!
We will have fun watching the next few months. I'll probably have to do what Susie's trying to do and take a sabbatical. Nah, I couldn't stand it. I don't know what I'll do with my life after the election. LOL

Ladies, I have so much to catch up on .... I am so far only up to posts on 7/9.
Shirley, I read about your granddaughter naming the George's as president.....My dad told me a funny story ... he was with my daughter and asked her how many presidents she could name and she said: George Washington, my dad said, Thats One, ... Abraham Lincoln, That's Two, she said, George Bush, Three ...Then she said, George Clooney.
My dad looked at her ... she said, "Geez, I can't believe I remembered George Clooney."
-
Shirley, BO is just that ... Bad Odor!
And he wears that flag pin because he doesn't want to get caught without it. That NY magazine cover is really making him mad. And he has the nerve to criticize them for satirizing him. He thinks that is out of bounds, too? I guess everyone should just play to his rules: leave his wife out of it and don't dare call him a muslim even though most people think he has some sort of muslim backround somewhere ... but even so, he is getting to be like a muslim hater.
And the way the economy is now? He thinks drilling is not the answer, he thinks raising taxes is the answer??? I guess we low minded non Harvard people wouldn't understand that raising taxes and paying higher prices for gas and oil is better for us.
And I am so sick of giving money to any nation when our own nation is falling apart!!!!
-
I thought you might enjoy a little campaign humor...
-
It's not too late to write your Senators about S.2731 otherwise known as PEPFAR. I wrote mine yesterday. I'm sick of this free spending in Congress like we aren't in 2 wars. Can we only imagine what those extra billions could be doing here? We have AIDS victims that could use the help instead of sending $35 Billion extra, some of which (and I think I heard the number was $2 Billion) to educate Chinese men about going to brothels and how to protect themselves. I'll send a letter, give me those Billions and I'll fund AIDS research projects HERE so we can find the cure.
The rest I'll use to fix the levees and other infrastructure that's coming down over our heads or crumbling under our feet. I'm really upset over this bill as you can tell.
Another thing that needs funding is our troops in Afghanistan. The General there was talking with CNN, they're running out of bullets, and other weapons. like tanks. That's disgusting. We are putting our troops in harms way without the necessary supplies to actually fight the war! Bring them home then until we can re-arm them. This is another outrage. I gotta turn off C-SPAN.
-
That was a fun video. I'll have to share it. We can use some humor in this campaign.
-
Always, Loved the video! They have a new Freedom Museum in the Tribune Tower in Chicago and they have the original on display there. I still watch it every time I go there. Even though it is Bush and Kerry, outdated, it is so hilarious. I don't know how those guys think up this stuff. I love BO riding his unicorn over the rainbow.
The NewYorker's cartoon may have backfired. Most people are not looking at it as a conservative caricature of the Obama's. We aren't that crass. It is funny how upset BO is. It reminds me of the Muslim cartoons by VanGogh that started the riots in Europe. They just do not understand satire. By getting upset over this, he is aligning himself with muslims, whether he realizes it or not. Yeah, the thing was distasteful and over the top, but he is a politician, and needs to except that. Does he think he deserves special treatment? Look at all the satire about Bush. Did you ever see him come out and say they should not be doing it. He would just laugh it off and move on. If Obama wants to be a president, he needs to get a spine!!!!!!!
You will see a lot of similarities to Obama's campaign when you read "While Europe Slept". I hope you guys get it soon. I am sure you can find it at the library.
The recent votes on immigration by the EU indicate that they are finally realizing that they made a huge mistake by allowing immigration to become unchecked. It is ironic that as they are finally getting tougher, this country wants to be more lienient. It is such a national security issue for the world. We need to know who is coming into our country. We need to be able to welcome those who would like to come here and work for a better life and keep out those who wish to destroy us and our way of life, terrorists, drug smugglers, everyday criminals, etc. McCain needs to make this a bigger issue. He needs to again admit his mistake with supporting Kennedy on immigration and put more walls and patrols on the border to keep out the riff raff. Why liberals have such a problem with this, I will never understand.

Pretty good article below from Michael Goodwin at the Daily News-------------

Barack Obama's plan ignores the facts
Tuesday, July 15th 2008, 7:15 PM
Barack Obama and John McCain had a virtual debate on Iraq and Afghanistan Tuesday and there were two takeaways. The first is that they agree on the need for more troops in Afghanistan. The second is that Obama's vision of Iraq and how it fits into our national security is, to put it kindly, still a work in progress.
Their speeches, Obama's in Washington and McCain's in New Mexico, were carried back to back on the cable networks. It's the closest thing we're likely to get to a debate until September because Obama has rejected McCain's invitation for joint appearances.
After Tuesday, I can see why. Obama is most comfortable reading a prepared speech from a TelePrompTer, while McCain likes to roam a stage, mixing prepared remarks with a question-and-answer format. Each was in his element, but McCain was far more realistic and persuasive on the connection between Iraq and Afghanistan and the need to keep pressing forward in both. "We can succeed in both," he said.
McCain, whose appearances often have a funereal quality, has been ramping up the energy level and it showed. He was animated before an audience that appreciated his determination and earned a standing ovation when he vowed, "I will get Osama Bin Laden and bring him to justice. I will do that."
Obama, in fairness, chose a subdued format with another purpose: to make what his team called a "major policy address" on national security. It was a choice born of necessity, with his recent contradictory remarks on Iraq and other issues creating doubts about his readiness to be commander in chief.
He was only partially successful in dispelling those doubts. While he offered a compelling view of how America should have engaged the world after 9/11 instead of invading Iraq and getting bogged down, the speech suffered from fundamental flaws in logic and fact that Obama refuses to confront.
He can't bring himself to acknowledge how the successful surge of our troops has altered the dynamics in Iraq and that he was wrong to oppose it. He went further than usual in citing "the gains of the surge," but still won't factor those gains into his commitment to withdraw combat troops over 16 months. When he says, "I stand by my pledges to end the war," he might as well add, "The facts be damned."
Meanwhile, he wants to use the surge strategy in Afghanistan, saying, "This is a war we have to win." The contrast he set up suggests he does not believe Iraq is a meaningful struggle and that we have little stake in the outcome. The number of Americans who agree with him is declining because of the success, proving they were not opposed to the war as much as they opposed losing it.
There were other head-scratchers as well. Obama talked tough about forging a new relationship with Pakistan to keep militants from crossing into Afghanistan. But in the next breath, he attacked President Pervez Musharraf, who, despite his flaws, is more committed to rooting out Taliban and Al Qaeda elements than the coalition government now calling the shots.
Obama also talked about stopping Iran's nuclear program in ways I find confusing. While he promised to "use all elements of American power to pressure the Iranian regime," he praised European governments that have been less forceful than our own. His pressure tactics come down to meeting with Iranian leaders and threatening more sanctions, which are not likely to get through the Security Council.
And as bromides go, there was this one: "It's time to reform the United Nations, so that this imperfect institution can become a more perfect forum to share burdens, strengthen our leverage and promote our values."
That'll leave 'em laughing in Tehran, and it begs a question: Is that all there is?
-
Okay Susie, since you are not tuning in, I will be a bad girl and tell you what is happening.LOL
The Fox analysis crew (Krauthammer, and Co.) seem to thing that Obama is really starting to dig himself in a hole on the war. By making a policy statement before he even visits the middle east, he is boxing himself in, pandering to his left who are ticked he has left them in the dust. And he plans to meet with leaders of the PLO. Boy will those photo's make him look bad. Eventually, the "change" he will have to make is to take off the rubber suit. Eventually, some of his idiotic statements will have to stick. If the war continues to go well in the fall, his statements will come back to haunt him.
If you can, watch Glenn Beck today. He has two congressmen, bipartisan, who are going around the leaders in the house and coming up with their own energy bill. It involves drilling, and new forms of energy in hopes of getting us off the dependence on foreign oil. They are trying to put what this country needs ahead of politics and make a compromise that will make the price of oil drop like a rock in an empty well. They say they will push to get this thing voted on before the house goes on summer vacation. If the talk shows get behind this and talk it up, we may actually have a Congress that starts to accomplish something. Wake me, I think I am dreaming. . .
Shirley, about the DVD on terrorism that my husband is working on. There will be 8 million of them put into the Sunday papers in two weeks, targeting smaller cities. I think they are trying to appeal to the independents by staying away from the bigger cities, mostly democratic. I bet it will also be viewable on line, so if you do not get one in your paper, I will let you know. It will not be in the Chicago papers so I am hoping to get my hands on one.

First of all the video has hilarious. Yep, we certainly can use some humor in this election. However, Obama always makes me laugh! NOT! When I'm watching him I just keep calling him, Stupid! Does anyone else talk to the television. I'm starting to lose it!
Roctobermom, loved your story about you dd. George Clooney! Cute. Our children are so innocent. I sure hate it when they lose that innocence.
Yes, I too and getting sick and tired of this very mean country sending billions to people who probably never see a dime of it. This rich country that's in so much debt could certainly use the billions sent away to people in our very on country. I don't mean to give them a free ride, but many people hit hard times and they need help getting out.
My gypsy children told me that while they were in Africa there was a "team" (or whatever you call them) who came over to teach protection. The women giggled, and I don't know what the men did. I doubt it worked. The women would giggle when shown how to use a condom.
With all the bad that we have going on here, I'm still glad I'm an American. And I'm not ashamed that I can't speak another language. I will never be able to visit another country. I don't know anyone who speaks a different language. So, I really don't need a lesson in Spanish, French, German. Shoot, I'll be lucky to leave North Carolina to visit my home in Texas. It's been almost seven years since I was there.
Linda, I am determined to get the book "While Europe Slept." Found it used on Amazon. Right now I'm reading "Fleeced" by Dick Morris. I heard it's number 2 on the N. Y. Times. It's kinda scary to see what would happen if Obama wins this election. Perhaps I'll order the book tonight. It looks very interesting.
BTW, Obama did go to a Muslim school while in Africa. He also went to a Catholic school, if my facts are right. I don't know how many years he attended in each school. You can buy his book and find out. LOL
-
I thought I'd write this so we can sleep easy about the future. I caught Obama on Larry King. Gone are the days of if I become President, it's more like when I become President and he said he will run the wars from the White House. No, not the Generals on the ground, he will. He will give them the targets and such and troop movements.
So we can rest easy, the community organizer will be calling all the shots in both wars come January. We can at least bring the Generals home.

Why Congress can't do anything about our oil problems except talk about it is because Pelosi and Reid won't schedule any legislation to come to the floor for a vote.
http://www.ibdeditorials.com/IBDArticles.aspx?id=300927847223162&kw=Pelosi
As long as the Dems stay in the majority in both houses, we stay at the mercy of whatever price they can get out there. I don't see how the Legislators can get around that problem of scheduling a floor vote. The democrats hold all the cards.

And one from Gov. Palin, hopefully our next vice president:

Rosemary, Thanks for three great links. Let's hope that the Rep from Hawaii and Penn (i think) who are trying to skirt Pelosi with their own energy bill will get it through. Great interview from Palin! This woman would be a great VP! I wish we would see more of her, speaking about Alaska's resources. It seems crazy that Alaskans are paying such high prices when all that oil is in their backyards.
-
Linda,
I'm going to the cubs game Sunday. It's sold out, so my tickets are in the nose bleed section. I'm actually cheering for the cubs. Their time has come.
What I don't understand is how can the Reps get past Pelosi with their own legislation? She's been sitting on quite a few already and they never come up for debate. I had such high hopes for Pelosi, what a disappointment she turned out to be. Another thing that annoys me, IBD did an editorial on her, but what about Reid in the Senate? He's doing the same thing, sitting on legislation, but they don't ask HIM to step down, do they? Maybe he hasn't said as many stupid things as Pelosi has.
I hope there is some kind of parliamentary maneuver they can use to bypass her. But there are so many dems in House. What a mess they've created in their partisan bull.
I signed Newt's petition:

Rosemary. Have fun at the Cubs game. I gave up on them in 1969. As a kid, we use to go to games for 3 bucks, One time my uncle was able to get us seats ($7) in front of the bull pen. We all had our programs and were getting autographs from the players. This was before they charged for such things! When I asked Fergie Jenkins for his autograph, he told me to get the f out of here! That was it. My bubble was burst. I gave up on the Cubs. And the curse is still alive. 100 years! I think that the rest of the league may let them win just because it would be good story?? The only ones not cheering for the Cubs are the Sox. It is so crazy how they hate each other. You should be in the room when my two uncles go at. One is Cubs/Dem the other is Sox/Rep. They get the whole family going. My uncle is coming in from Az in August. We will all be together. I can't wait!!! LOL
On Glenn Beck they explained that there is a way for members to bring forth proposals and the two guys feel that they have enough support to get it through. There may be enough members of congress who are being pressured by their constituants to do something, and put politics aside that it just might work. Approval ratings for Congress are in the single digits. Miracles can happen!
-
Linda,
I wish I could be a fly on the wall listening to your family argue over baseball and politics. Sounds like you'll have a great time. I use to watch a lot of cubs games because they were on during the day. I still think baseball should be outside and in the sunlight with the shade coming in over the plate. Those were the days. Here, they close the dome, but at 95 degrees, they pretty much have to. I still only go to day games here.
I do hope there is a way of getting around Pelosi. She's pretty darn smug today, She called Bush a total failure.. without credibility. Is there any way to impeach a Speaker of the House? These dems are getting awfully big for their britches lately. I hope it turns on them. She also announced there will be no energy legislation coming to the floor during this year. How special of her to put our nation at such risk. Chavez, should be jumping with joy. The Saudi's ordered another building to be built in Dubai in her honor
The 3 networks are following Obama on his tour. What can I say? McCain's been there how many times? We hardly get a report. This truly is a media contest with only one candidate running.

Newt speaking about domestic drilling:

He wants us to write our congress people, but mine are all for drilling, should I write them to say Thank you? Maybe so.

Glad I've been banned from watching the network news. I need to stay away from the upcoming circus.

A little from Commentary about Obama's foreign policy advisors:
Three Hundred??
Posted By Jennifer Rubin On July 18, 2008 @ 8:10 AM In ContentionsBarack Obama has [1] 300 advisors on foreign policy. What?? That includes the [2] Winnie-the Pooh fellow and 299 other “experts” who, we are led to believe, didn’t catch Obama’s “[3] syntax” error on “undivided Jerusalem.” Did not one of the 300 know about the history of [4] presidential summitry? And none of them thought it might have saved a heap of trouble for Obama if once during his primary campaign he had a briefing with General Petraeus or trip to Iraq?
One of several things is going on. One possibility: this unwieldy and bloated operation is utterly ineffective and doesn’t prevent or catch errors. There are lots of them, but they aren’t very good, even according to [5] other Democrats. Or: they are there for window dressing to provide the patina of national security expertise when, in fact, the major foreign policy objectives are really driven by domestic ideology (e.g. we can’t admit Iraq has anything to do with Al Qaeda or the netroot will go nuts).
[6] Morton Kondracke seems to favor the second as a working hypothesis. In a must-read column he writes:
Every voter understands the simple principle that you don’t make up your mind about something until you have checked the facts — but this week Obama declared he will stick to his predetermined troop- withdrawal schedule no matter what he might learn on his forthcoming trip to Iraq. The only reasonable explanation for his rigidity is that he’s hemmed in by the overwhelming demand of the Democratic base — and left-wing bloggers above all — that he not backtrack on the central promise of his campaign: to end the war. . . .But he couldn’t bring himself to admit that he was wrong about the surge, which has manifestly reduced violence and has opened the way for significant Iraqi political and military progress. As the State Department reported this month, the Iraqi government is making progress on 15 of the 18 political benchmarks set for it by Congress. A majority of Iraqi provinces are now the military responsibility of Iraqi forces. Obama, while tipping his hat to the performance of the U.S. military, continued to dismiss any evidence of political progress. He and aides act as though the Sunni turn against al-Qaida in Iraq and the government’s suppression of Shiite militias just happened — neglecting the security provided by the surge. Obama’s tack, if persisted in after his trip, opens him up to devastating McCain commercials using Obama on videotape predicting that the surge would fail alongside Iraqi testimonials that it was essential to free their country from al-Qaida atrocities. Obama was wrong to say that Iraq “is not and never was the central front in the war on terrorism.” It certainly was, for awhile, when Osama bin Laden was urging Islamicists to go there to achieve martyrdom killing Americans.
Most troubling is the possibility that the performance of the campaign’s foreign policy apparatus is a preview of the Obama administration’s foreign policy apparatus. There are apparently hundreds (if not thousands) of folks waiting to join the State and Defense Departments who hold beliefs that defy evidence and logic. They honestly believe that Iraq is unimportant, unconditional direct talks with Iran will unlock the promise of world peace, we can talk up protectionism at home without scaring our trading partners, and the less input from military commanders in war zones the better.
Take your pick as to which theory makes the most sense. But 300? I guess it takes a lot of people to script a foreign trip [7] so tightly that there is no room for a gaffe. -
Yeah--I peaked at Fox long enough to hear of this article in the Washington Post.

The Audacity of Vanity
By Charles Krauthammer
Friday, July 18, 2008; A17
Barack Obama wants to speak at the Brandenburg Gate. He figures it would be a nice backdrop. The supporting cast -- a cheering audience and a few fainting frauleins -- would be a picturesque way to bolster his foreign policy credentials.
What Obama does not seem to understand is that the Brandenburg Gate is something you earn. President Ronald Reagan earned the right to speak there because his relentless pressure had brought the Soviet empire to its knees and he was demanding its final "tear down this wall" liquidation. When President John F. Kennedy visited the Brandenburg Gate on the day of his "Ich bin ein Berliner" speech, he was representing a country that was prepared to go to the brink of nuclear war to defend West Berlin.
Who is Obama representing? And what exactly has he done in his lifetime to merit appropriating the Brandenburg Gate as a campaign prop? What was his role in the fight against communism, the liberation of Eastern Europe, the creation of what George Bush the elder -- who presided over the fall of the Berlin Wall but modestly declined to go there for a victory lap -- called "a Europe whole and free"?
Does Obama not see the incongruity? It's as if a German pol took a campaign trip to America and demanded the Statue of Liberty as a venue for a campaign speech. (The Germans have now gently nudged Obama into looking at other venues.)
Americans are beginning to notice Obama's elevated opinion of himself. There's nothing new about narcissism in politics. Every senator looks in the mirror and sees a president. Nonetheless, has there ever been a presidential nominee with a wider gap between his estimation of himself and the sum total of his lifetime achievements?
Obama is a three-year senator without a single important legislative achievement to his name, a former Illinois state senator who voted "present" nearly 130 times. As president of the Harvard Law Review, as law professor and as legislator, has he ever produced a single notable piece of scholarship? Written a single memorable article? His most memorable work is a biography of his favorite subject: himself.
It is a subject upon which he can dilate effortlessly. In his victory speech upon winning the nomination, Obama declared it a great turning point in history -- "generations from now we will be able to look back and tell our children that this was the moment" -- when, among other wonders, "the rise of the oceans began to slow." As Hudson Institute economist Irwin Stelzer noted in his London Daily Telegraph column, "Moses made the waters recede, but he had help." Obama apparently works alone.
Obama may think he's King Canute, but the good king ordered the tides to halt precisely to refute sycophantic aides who suggested that he had such power. Obama has no such modesty.
After all, in the words of his own slogan, "we are the ones we've been waiting for," which, translating the royal "we," means: " I am the one we've been waiting for." Amazingly, he had a quasi-presidential seal with its own Latin inscription affixed to his lectern, until general ridicule -- it was pointed out that he was not yet president -- induced him to take it down.
He lectures us that instead of worrying about immigrants learning English, "you need to make sure your child can speak Spanish" -- a language Obama does not speak. He further admonishes us on how "embarrassing" it is that Europeans are multilingual but "we go over to Europe, and all we can say is 'merci beaucoup.' " Obama speaks no French.
His fluent English does, however, feature many such admonitions, instructions and improvements. His wife assures us that President Obama will be a stern taskmaster: "Barack Obama will require you to work. He is going to demand that you shed your cynicism . . . that you come out of your isolation. . . . Barack will never allow you to go back to your lives as usual, uninvolved, uninformed."
For the first few months of the campaign, the question about Obama was: Who is he? The question now is: Who does he think he is?
We are getting to know. Redeemer of our uninvolved, uninformed lives. Lord of the seas. And more. As he said on victory night, his rise marks the moment when "our planet began to heal." As I recall -- I'm no expert on this -- Jesus practiced his healing just on the sick. Obama operates on a larger canvas.

Susie, Shame on you for peaking! I guess we are all addicted. LOL My husband thinks I am nuts for watching fox all the the time. He only watches the sports channels. Fortunately, he still votes rep. because he realizes the consequences of the alternatives.
I can't believe the nerve of this guy to go to the Brandenburg Gate. I just hope that he manages a misspeak and it gets covered. We'll see if his triumverate media fans from the networks will actually report the facts.
Susan Esteridge(sp?), with the annoying craggy voice, admitted today on Fox that she is a bit worried. With Obama only ahead a little in the polls, in a year that the dems should be a shoo-in, she says it is cause for concern. She noted that Kerry and Bore both had better leads at this point. Even Beckle said he is worried that BO might say the wrong thing on his trip. The problem is, will it be reported? No conservative reporters were invited on the plane.
And what about his interview in Vanity Fair. How can anybody take this guy seriously if all he continues to do is the puff piece interviews? Jesse couldn't cut off the guys nuts, he doesn't have any!

Before I read all the other posts I wanted to say that while watching Fox today..Cavuto I think...one of the dems from Texas is telling his party to stop playing games.
As far as Pelosi goes....I HAVE NEVER LIKED THAT WOMAN! And I'm pointing my finger at her like Clinton did when he said, I never had sex with THAT WOMAN. Pelosi is a divider. Oh, she's so soft spoken, but stupid as hell! She's doing NOTHING but hurting this country and the people that live in it. Geez, I hope McCain starts vamping up his talks about drilling and the econmy and how truckers have gone out of business, and how EVERYTHING is going up BECAUSE of the gas prices. It's not only effecting the people at the pump, but every darn (and that's a nice word!) thing in this country.
And if idiot Gore thinks his suggestion is gonna work he's nuttier than I thought. Can't stand the man. He needs to move out of his mansion that uses more energy than Bush does. How dare Pelosi tell us that Bush is a failure. She's an idiot. How would she know?
Rosemary, I vote for Palin to be VP! I even like the little fella from Louisiana. I know his name, but can't get it off the tip of my tongue. It's stuck like when you put your tongue on something frozen.
I'm mad! If this country goes dem we're in for a hell'uva lot of problems.

"For the first few months of the campaign, the question about Obama was: Who is he? The question now is: Who does he think he is?"
Susie, that's just one quote I had to chuckle at. Good opinion piece.
Rosemary, I sent the video of Newt to my children. One of my dds said he's have to do some research into the drilling suggestions (demands). But she was educated by a short little piece on Speculators. She wanted me to sign the petition. I needed to do more research. LOL
I too heard that Obama had 300 foreign policy advisors. May I say....TOO FUNNY!
So, even Fox isn't traveling with Obama. I wonder why? After the Vanity Fair (was that the one?) magazine article...well...all I can say is HE'S SCARED THE TRUTH WILL FIND HIM OUT!He certainly doesn't like Sean Hannity. I loved Hannity's invitation to Obama last night.

I was just reading a nice piece about McCain (sometimes they write about him) and his town hall meetings. One man asked him a question at the meeting, and after it was over, McCain thought he didn't fully answer the guy, so he walked him to his car to discuss it further.
The man is an original, made in the U.S.A. No pompous haughtiness, just a genuine nice guy with a temper, now and again.
Shirley,
About Pelosi, she was talking about all the leases in the lower 48 should be drilled first, but like the cartoon said, she's for drilling only where there isn't any oil. We have a small museum in my next town. We were one of the original oil boom towns. The picture is of all the oil rigs, side by side, hundreds of them. Do I think there's any oil left here? I'd be happy to drill in my backyard to prove the point there isn't any left here. Yet, an oil company holds the mineral rights under my home. So I'll ask them to come over and drill because Pelosi says to.
Then we see oil futures going down since the day Bush announced he was lifting the executive hold on drilling off shore. What a coincidence. I wonder if one thing had anything to do with the other? Then Sen. Biden said, when we announce that we'll begin drilling, the Saudi's will lower their output. The Saudi's are putting up an entire section of buildings in Dubai in his honor too.
My prayer is that Obama asks Biden to be his Veep so we can get him out of the Senate for at least a few months while they campaign and they'll be able to get some work done. The dems seem to want other countries to be our puppet masters and hold us hostage. I'm beginning to believe there's more to this then what meets the eye.

It is very simple what is going on here. The dems do not want anything good to happen so that they can blame it on Bush. As long as they can keep preaching doom and gloom, they can run their candidate on the "change" platform. The thing that is so maddening is that they are the ones in the driver's seat, and no one is holding them accountable. They could change the situation tomorrow if they wanted to. But then Bush would be able to take credit. They would rather that the American people suffer than do anything while he is in office. It just infuriates me. Why aren't people holding congress accountable for the economy. The ball is in their court! I guess their are just too many stupid people in this country! Clinton got all the credit for a good economy that was brought about by a Republican congress. But then again, the press was on his side. Today's press in busy producing the "OBama Idol" show.
