Hi Laura...welcome to our MI group. I trust all is well now?
Ladies...lets try to set a date in August...you know how busy our calendars get? How about...
Sat 8-2
Sun 8-3
Sat 8-23
Sun 8-24
What do you think about the pot luck picnic idea...yes or no?
Another overcast day today. I am currently on antibiotics...the surgery site is infected. I guess that is fairly common when you have had radiation.
-
Hi to all and a welcome to Laura......................hoping all are enjoying the summer and getting used to the 'possible severe storms' that seem to be a daily thing!
I'm all for lunch..............unfortunately, 8-2 and 8-3 I will be out of town............but don't change plans for me. Nail down a date and we'll go with the majority!
A restaurant or a potluck picnic works for me....................I even thought about offering up my house for a potluck.................haven't committed to the CRAZY idea yet.............but I'm thinking of it!
Off to the Howell Balloonfest with DD and family...................in between rain!

The pot luck sounds like so much fun. I don't know if I can make it, I don't have my Chemo sch yet. If I can't come, I want to read all about it.
I am having some problems with swelling in my arm pit. I spent Friday night in ER because of it. They did nothing for the swelling but increased my pain meds. I have my follow up with the surgeon on Tuesday.
Neesie, it has been years since I have been to the Balloonfest in Howell. I use to love going to that.

Hi Toni! I am also in Westland. Sorry you are having more pain. The swelling is most likely "seroma" and will take it's time going away. Where are you going for treatment?
I'm in for any day for meeting. Restaurant or potluck is fine. Kensington would be nice, we could reserve a pavillion.
-
Hi Rockysmom. I am going to Oakwood, Dearborn. Where are you going? I see the surgeon for follow up this Tuesday,
I sure hope I can make it for the potluck. Will know my sch better next week, I hope.
-
Welcome Toni and Laura. Caseysmom - is Casey your dog in the avatar or your child? Ask Rockysmom who Rocky is! Toni, love the fairy.
Kats - Sorry I didn't mail the stick to the butterfly. I couldn't figure out a nice way to do it so left it out. Yeah, they were heavy and I was afraid I was going to poke someone's eye out. Cute but not that great of an idea. You are right, the site does look rather sterile. But, I guess it looks more professional.
Not-me - hope the infection clears up quickly for you. The only day I cannot make is 8/23 and I'm open for pot-luck or restaurant. If that is the only day that the majority can make, I'll catch you next time.
Neesie - I missed the balloon fest again! Hope it was fun.
-
Hi gals, I don't exactly belong in this group "yet" I am still going through chemo, but I live in Jackson, MI and I plan on being a Survivior!!! Hope this group is around when that time comes and I'm so happy there seems to be so many of you.
Good luck, God bless and hope you all continue to be survivors. Mary
-
Mary, I am with you. I just started this road. But I seen Michigan and thought this would be a good place to hang out.
I hope you ladies don't mind those of newly dx being here.

Has a date been decided? I saw that a few had been put out there but didn't see if one had been selected. Kensington would be a great place, especially w/a pavalion. Were we talking about a potluck? I know the last one I attended they divided up the alphabet into sections and that determined what we were to bring. It insured we had an even number of things. We were all responsible for bringing our own drinks, plates & utensils. Everything brought to share had to be in disposable containers. It went the smoothest of any potluck I have ever attended.
I'm really looking forward to coming and meeting my MI sisters. Have a great rest of the weekend.
Wendy
-
Sunkistmi I keep checking back for a date also. I would love to come and meet everyone.
Toni
-
Okay............I'll set a date! (atleast see how many can come then!) July 26 or 27 at Kensington Park.
It will be nice to see the 'oldies' and to meet the 'newbies'...............! We can keep the potluck simple...............don't want to be messing with grilling or such....
Okay Michiganders (plus Kats and Faith) let us know within a few days if this date works for most of you!
Hugs,
Neesie

I hope to have my chemo sch tomorrow and then I will know what I can do.

Hi ladies, just found this thread. I live in West Branch, way up north from most of you, it sounds like. Was diagnosed 5/27/08 with DCIS left breast, am scheduled to have bilateral mastectomies and a SNB on this coming Friday. I am having expanders put in with implants ultimately down the road. I'm 53, and like a lot of you, seemed to be doing all of the right things to be healthy, but this disease doesn't care who you are, what you do, etc. I'm ready to get on with the surgery and on with my life! Thanks for listening, love to get to know you all.
-
Mary - Thinking of you and how Wed. will be your LAST day of chemo. Go celebrate and tell us all about it. Hugs
Laura - I had the wrong Clinton. I am not far from Clinton but about 2 hrs away from Clinton Township.
Neesie - I am also putting an invite out to our other adopted MI sister - IRIS from NC. I know it is a long way for her but ya just never know. How much fun would that be to have Iris and her bears at the potluck/picnic!
fireflyangel - Welcome - sorry you had to join our club. We are here for you. I know where West Branch is I have been there before. I also was dx with DCIS but opted for lumpectomies. Best wishes for you on Friday. Please check back in and let us know how you are doing.
Rockysmom, Nancy, Chris, Toni, Wendy and the rest of the MI gang - Hope everyone is enjoying the summer and looking forward to seeing everyone.

July 27 would be great but 26th would work too. My hubby is leaving for TN on a mission trip for a week on the 26 so I would miss him taking off but the chance to meet everyone would be worth it. I'm so excited! Hopefully by that date I will know something more about my own upcoming surgery.

Hi all. The last weekend in July is out for me...I have a family reunion. How about the 8-24 date? And welcome to Faith and Kats and Iris and Deb. MI is a great place to visit at this time of year!!!
I have really been enjoying the summer...and spent a good amount of time yesterday putting mulch down around my flowers. It seems like I have not had too much time for my gardens this year. We did make it upnorth over the fourth...it was fabulous with the good weather. The beach was perfect...except for the fish flies that came off of the lake right after the fireworks. The same thing happened last year...how weird.
WingGirl-We volunteered at the lighthouse two weekends this year...with one already done and the other one scheduled in September. We man the light on Saturday and Sunday, and complete work around the place (lawn, sweeping, watering, dusting) and also provide tours and gift shop sales. When you see the lighthouse on the billboards on 75...that is the Cheboygan River crib lighthouse which the second light we show. The Cheboygan River Front Range light was built in 1880...and is in the process of being restored. Anyway...it is rewarding work. -
You guys! That weekend is not the best for me since we have a reunion on both days. I'd still meet you on either day but it would be spreading myself thin. What about 8/24????
Yes, we are adopting Iris! She is a sweetheart. We have met wonderful friends from outside of Michigan. Kats - IL, Jon - OH, Faith - OH, Iris - NC, Deb - Alaska!!
Welcome newbies - Sorry I didn't go back and get the names. It will be nice to meet you guys.
Oldies - miss all you guys!!!!
I know I've been AWOL but when I come back and hear of losing more sisters, it sucker punches me.
Not-me, the lighthouse work sounds like a blast. Take pictures.
Faith and Pat - pconn, we need an update on your grandbabies also.
xxxooo
Nancy
-
OK, reporting again. 8/24 is fine with me if you need RSVP's. I just want to meet everybody! Hopefully I will have had my surgery by then. Will look for a solidified date.
Wendy
-
As far as I know, Aug. 24 will be fine.................DH hasn't told me of any pending trips that I'm not aware of! Hoping Son will come home sometime this summer.............So, shall we shoot for the 24th of Aug.????
Neesie
-
Nancy---maybe we are related since we are both going to a family reunion on the same weekend. It would not be the first time that two MI board sisters found out they were related!!! Tell me your going to Gaylord???
-
Not-me...............Two MI girls found out they were related?! How cool is that! Hope both you and Nancy enjoy your family reunion! I've got one on the 19th.......................but I'm definitely not excited!!
Hugs,
Neesie

Oh yes...I wanted to share that my daughter who is going to marry in Feb...her fiance and she decided to do the "instead of favors we donated to...breast cancer." How sweet of them!!! Did I mention I was the matron of honor (okay a bit proud here)?
Another random thought...maybe a work hour or two at Kays and then a pot luck? I am sure there is a nice park around her home...and I am sure she could use a bunch of hands for a few hours???
