    Hello Everyone-

Laura- You all look so beautiful, it makes me crave hair and Las Vegas.

Tina ,Laura and Lexi- Thanks for the heads up on the Loreal Sublime...I will definitely be trying that next. I hate having ghostly white legs during summer, it just does not look good with those summer dresses!

Tina- I personally love having French done on my toenails during summer. Maybe if you take one of those feet scrubber brushes and a good exfoliate you can get those big toes cleaned up and have nice soft feet for those sandals/flipflops =).

Laura!!! We missed you girl. You are so beautiful, your skin just glows. And I love the brown tank you have on.

Rocktober - another great photo of you! Gorgeous!!

Speaking of hair - today, I've got my hair almost up by itself without a ton of clips. I didn't wash it today, which makes it more pliable and pulled the front back into a ponytail at the back of my head, then  forced it to look like a "bun" - I then pulled the back up in a high pony and used one of those hair things that you put a stick through the two holes? to cover the back pony. Then used two clips in the front to hold the strays.

My Florida tan is fading fast. I might have to hit the bottle.

Have a great days girls! Raye

Rocktober, I went back and THEN I noticed.  Who could notice such a little thing in the face of all the dazzling beauty??? Cool  What is the trinket?

Nail polish question:  If I do paint my toenails, or my fingernails, what is the best polish?  Some of my nails are ridge-y if that is a word.  Filing them to remove the ridges just weakens them at the tip and the NailTek ridge filler is so gloppy it makes the polish over them soft and impressionable.  Is there a better ridge filler or a better way to deal with the ridges?  If I just paint over them, the polish settles into the grooves and looks like crap.  Brand recs?  I don't care if it's expensive, I just want something to do a good job.

Did you see this?  The make-up effect.  Can anyone question that it makes us better and better in every way?  LOL http://www.cbsnews.com:80/stories/2008/06/04/tech/main4151624.shtml

    Tina,

Some good brands of nail polish in my opinion: Zoya (my favorite), OPI and Sally Hanson.

I don't use a ridge filler, so can't help you with that. Isn't there some sort of buffer out there that smooths the nails? As for filing, I do NOT file. I agree, it weakens the nail. Instead, I use a small nail clipper and clip them into shape (a trick my cousin taught me when I was 16). It actually makes my nails stronger.

There is a NailTek product out there that is very good, but I cannot remember the name, but I think I posted a pic of it on this thread somewhere. Makes nails very strong.

Raye, yes, there is a buffer.  That's what I meant when I said "file."  It does definitely work to smooth the nails but it also causes the nail to split and peel at the tip edge.  Makes sense, doesn't it?  You have made breaks in the nail surface and they start to peel back.

I have found that those new-ish crystal or "diamond" files work well and don't make nails peel or break like metal or emery files do.  It pays to get a better one for $ in the teens rather than the really cheap, tiny ones for a couple of bucks.

My nails look like crud.  I do a lot of dyeing and the dry dye tends to get into the nail and under them. Cry

Gotcha, Tina. Can you put a base coat on to protect the nail itself while you are using the dye?

Today I am going to go get a new curling iron - mine is as old as the hills, as I haven't used it for years and my curls are beginning to lose their shape. Any recommendations?

I use the 4 sided buffer on my nails and they don't crack on the edges. I don't know if it is because my nails are rock hard. I bit my nails before my dx last year now they are so long they look like fake nails especially when I use the buffer to shine them. Though I have one thumb nail that refuses to grow, it has an area with a 'ridge' under the nail that breaks continually. My grandmother has the same problem with some of her nails.

Tina, have you tried using gloves when dyeing things to keep your nails looking nice?

Raye, my curling iron is also as old as the hills. I actually have a convertible curling iron with interchangeble barrels that go from the 1/2 inch to the 3 inch and brush attachments.

Sheila, yup, always use gloves.  Cannot use them while measuring, though.  Also, somehow particles manage to get into the gloves.  You cannot win.

Also use the 3-sided buffer on my nails.  Maybe my nails are just more ridged than yours. Cry But, thanks for the suggestions.

I really need to go shopping for a good polish.  There is nothing but CVS locally and now, with the price of gas, I calculate how much any trip will cost just to get there.  Consequently, I am going out less and less and not going as far if I can help it.  I'd rather spend my $$$ on makeup than on gas.

Tina- I would check at my local nail place to see what they say... you could always have a glue or gel manicure... it's not fake nails, or wraps, or tips-- just a layer of gel on the nail to make it stronger and more even- then polish over it, and it's very smooth.  Generally it costs $10.

Wow, I've sure missed alot! Been crazy-busy at work and only get seconds here & there to logon.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure that there is no completely satisfactory answer to this question, but I'm hoping for tips from you wise chicas regarding how to stay gorgeous while really playing in the water. I feel as though I look frightening without makeup, but I'm about to spend all day Sunday on New Guy's boat and will be swimming and water-skiing. So it's bad enough that I'm still lugging around 10 pounds from my thyroid med adjustment and haven't quite gotten tan enough to feel awesome, but now I've got to worry about my post-chemo skin, eyelashes and eyebrows making me look like an 80-year old terminally ill person when the makeup goes. What should I do, y'all???????????!!!!!!!! HELP!!!!!

Thanks girlz for all the compliments and well wishes! You are quite an exceptional group of girlz....maybe we should think about planning a trip to Las Vegas...the make-up group girlz! LOL Hmmmmmmm...wadda ya think?

Marin - You look FAB!...use some tan in a tube to get some color...and you'll be just fine! We all critique ourselves much more than the dude in our life does! Try to kick back...have a good time and just let the day happen NATURALLY! Have fun!

The BEST product for nail problems is:

    nailtiques

    nail protein

    formula 2 plus

It is made for excessive problems due to peeling, softness or deep split ridges.

You apply it once a day. I have yet to find it in my local pharmacy/drugstore, so you might have to get it online or at a salon. It will be well worth the hunt.

Marin- I am sure you look hot in and out of the water! Have you had any success with waterproof makeup? I always think a cute ballcap can help distract from looking yucky after a day on the lake. Also, maybe bring a good moisturizer on board the boat to keep your skin moist and supple looking (a nice spray oil would help you look darker). Have fun on your water date.

omg!!!!!  You have shirley temple curls!!! AMAZING.... toooooo cute.  I love it love it love it.  But I'm sure with today's weather, it's a little poofy.  That's the problem when you have short curls. Humidty doesn't do a body good.

OMG, Tina, you look amazing!!! I think the curls are totally adorable too! If I had them, I'd be aiming for an updated Carole King look. Has that seriously all grown in just one year? It looks so healthy!

I think that you all are right and I should just relax and have fun tomorrow. It's going to be around 102 degrees and probably hotter on the water, so we'll just stay submerged as much as possible. I went to the tanning salon today and am actually getting really brown. Also I bought some very cute little jeans shorts that don't make me look fat. I tried to find a sun visor and was told, by several salespersons that no one wears them anymore (wtf?), so the ballcap idea might work if I'm looking really ratty. I'm planning to keep my makeup bag close by to re-do as soon as the swimming is over.

Laura....I think a get-together of the "makeup girlz" is an awesome idea, though I'd have to wait to win the lottery before I could afford Vegas!

Marin, I got a brand new visor in Hawaii ... next time I see a visor anywhere, I will pick one up for you.  They are soooooo in style!   I love that your hair doesn't get messed up but you can keep the sun off your face.

Although, as Laura and I saw in ALL my Vegas pics, my body was tan and my face was white!!!   I need to tan my face or get some darker makeup.  I think I need to figure out self tanning for my face and then powder it???

Regarding another trip ... I can't AFFORD IT ... what I can do is book a year out for my time share but it requires a week's stay.  I can see if I can get a two bedroom and that will sleep 6.  Laura is my roommate since she grabs the floor!  LOL!!   No kids this time.  And we don't have to go to Vegas.  So, no matter where I book for us, you gals can come out early because I'd only stay 2 nights ... so we can have some of you girls come in early or leave late whichever works.

Indio is near Palm Springs ...  like 20 mins away from Casinos, shopping, etc.  I can get the property there and there is a river there for laying in the sun on a floatie.  There is also one in Palm Springs but the Indio one is brand new with that river.  But Palm Springs in April will be nice and cabs to restaurants, casinos and shopping is good.  I just love laying at the pool.  I can get a 2br poss 3BR ....  Please please, I can't afford to fly!!

We can start a pm with ideas??  Or gmail ... LOL

Gosh, we could check Hawaii ... but then little girl is coming!!  Since I'd have to use our points and I'd stay for a week, I can't go without her for a week.

I don't know if I can do any trips with all the wedding stuff on the horizon-- but depending on the dates, I'd try my best.

Marin, please don't wear a visor.  I'm sorry girls, and I'm not trying to act like the 30 year old in the group (oh, wait, I am the 30 year old in the group) but VISORS ARE NOT IN STYLE.

PLEASE go for an alternative... like a big floppy hat, or for a sportier look a baseball cap which looks super sexy if it's worn in and shaped right at the brim.  You can do this by asking any neighborhood boy for tips.  Or get a rubber band and start breaking in the hat by bending it, and rubberbanding the ends of the brim.

If YOU MUST wear a visor lacoste does make a few cute ones, that are meant to be worn on the tennis court.

Marin, I hope you have a great time today.  I laughed when I read your comment about finding jean shorts you don't look fat in... right, cause you could look fat.... EVER??????

    lol

have fun girl.  Don't fret about the makeup.

Oh, thanks for the compliments, girls.  Yes, Marin, one year, hooray!  Pulled down, it touches my shoulders.  I had slightly wavy hair before, which tended to get frizzy in humidity (like, all summer in N.E.) but it was NOT curly.  It came back as thick as ever (as I have said, I'm a hairy canary.) and, with it being curly, you can hardly work your finger through it to find my scalp!  I'm not complaining, though.  The bald memories are tooooo fresh, thank you.  BTW, those curls are so STRONG it does not get frizzy, believe it or not.  They are NOT budging for anything, force of nature or not. LOL

A girly gurlz road trip would be fun but probably hard to coordinate.  Still, we should kick the idea around and, maybe, someday, it will come true.

Yeah, Marin, let's see your fat arse. Tongue out Somehow, I don't think it even approaches fat.  I hope you are out having fun as I write this.

Visors:  I missed that trend the first time around.  It's a habit with me.  That's why I wanted to see us have a fashion thread.

I did ask my hairdresser and his bf (the other hairdresser) if I should wear laces in my Keds or not.  I was thinking they looked dorkey and I thought I had seen pics in mags with unlaced sneakers.  My own hd didn't know but his bf, the fashion maven, did advise removing them.  I don't know if I am cool or not. LOL  Probably nobody cares. Laughing

OMG, y'all, I had the greatest time ever! There was a moment when P. dropped me off at the marina so I could use the restroom and I had to walk ALL THE WAY up the path in just my bikini....I felt so self-conscious, but unless I wanted to stay out the rest of the afternoon with a full bladder, it had to be done. The good news, though, is that I never got my face completely wet, so the makeup stayed on fine....yay.

He told me that I look amazing and very sexy Embarassed Kiss Laughing!!!

Beth, I cannot believe you are checking in before going off to the hospital.  As I write this, you are IN surgery.  My thoughts and with you, keeping you company in la-la land.  Be well.

    You girls have been busy!!!

Marin - You are gorgeous and so fun - a dream date on or off the boat, with or w/o makeup!!! You've probably already been on the boat (yesterday?) - how did it go? Just wear some waterproof mascara and liner and be you and voila! -you're all set sexy! Oh wait, I just saw your other post - doh! ha. Sounds like a great time. Ugh, walking up the path in a bikini - I am sure you looked fab, but omg, I hate  that too. Like in Waiting to Exhale "oh, I hope he is not watching me walk, oh he is".

A trip!! I can't afford it either, but it sounds so fun!!! A beach vacation maybe! That would be great.

Tina! Your hair is beautiful!!! It's almost like a brown version of mine, although mine is not half as shiny as yours and your curls seem more defined than mine (might be that diffuser I don't have). And do I see an avatar!?!?! Love it!

Beth!! Best wishes today girl. Going to get all lovelier. We'll be thinking of you.

OK guys, gotta go. busy today. Not to mention I am next to annoying with all of my exclamation points. Undecided

Beth...I too cannot believe you're checking in with us before getting going, but I appreciate knowing that we'll soon get to see your revisions. I was watching a TV show recently about lipo and the girl stayed awake the whole time. It was on her muffin tops and after the procedure, she seriously had not a hint of them left! What an awesome medical "discovery" lipo is! And then there's...is it your nipples you're having touched up?

Ok, new product tested:  Airbrush Legs by Sally Hansen.  I got the Light Glow one.  It is awesome.  When we were in Vegas I tried the AirStockings but didn't want to pay $30 for it then. That brand is excellant and stayed on all night even swimming the next day, came off in the shower that afternoon.

Today, I got the Sally Hansen brand ... under $20. Maybe under $15, I got a bunch of stuff.  Legs look good and I sprayed it on another girl here at work.  Now her legs match her feet!!  She is going straight to CVS after work.  No more stockings needed and perfect legs!
