Raye, I loved the first curly ponytail because it looked like glamourous "you", but day-yum, this straight one looks va-va-vooom! If you look that incredible with just a camera-phone, you must be drop-dead gorgeous in person! Kiss

Did you gel your own hair back to gather up to fit with the straight pony? I'm afraid I am still months away from that point. And >this< close to going and getting the back trimmed short today. Which of course would be a major setback. Undecided

More OnTopic, I got some travel size tubes of Lancome Resolution D-Contraxol Intensive Anit-Wrinkle Treatment. Well, I don't know about "treatment" but it certainly does smooth my skin. I put it on after cleansing in the morning, under my 'makeup', which usually consists of a sweep of blush, sweep of bronzer, eye-lighter, eye shadow, mascara and some brow fill-in. Oh, and lip color - always lips. This D-Contraxol is far beyond my budget in Nordies, but the free travel sizes can be bought in bulk for cheap on ebay. Caveat: it does have fragrance, like most Lancome products, but so far even my hyper-sensitive skin is okay with it.

Smoke and Mirrors, Lisa - but thanks. Poor resolution on camera phones Wink. My hair is long enough for a small ponytail on the top, which is put to the back of my head and then a small one in the back. I put the hairpiece on top of the back ponytail, covering it. I do need to use clips to secure the sides and very back, as the hair is not long enough to stay put w/o the clips.

I've had some trouble with Lancome products myself and I don't have sensitive skin- I wear the powder, lipstick and some other products, but I had bought an eyecream once from them and as you mention, it had a slight fragrance to it and my eyes would water so badly I would have to remove it. I now use the Mary Kay firming eye cream (have I mentioned that?!? HA).

Sierra, I use an eye make-up base. I have used Mary-Kay before and it works.  The one I use now is by MAC and it works.  I've never tried the Walgreen's brand or CVS but I know that they have it there. Next time, I am either buying at the drugstore or Avon due to price point and will try those.

How does the eye makeup base differ from regular foundation?

Question 2:  What should I use for highlighter on my brow bone? White?  I am not good in yellow and I tried a pale pink but it made me look like I had just plucked my eyebrows.  Not a good look.

I didn't even know they made eye makeup base! where do you put it - under your eyes and on the lids?

Tina, I use a very very light brown to highlight the brow bone. The white is too much for me.

Well, I've tried to submit a post recommending Clinique's Touch Base for Eyes, but I can't get it to go through due to 'inappropriate content'! Tongue out

Lisa, I've run into that refusal, too, from time to time when I tried to post a photo (just shoes, no nudies LOL) so there is some kind of glitch in the system.  But, I will take a look at that product.  You use it and like it?  It's different from regular foundation?

I keep forgetting to mention that since I started taking Biotin last summer to help grow my hair, I have had much better nails than I used to have.  They do still split a little bit but nowhere near as badly as before.  And, they seem harder.  This is, of course, after they got over the bad effects of chemo: turning yellow, softening and falling off. Laughing

I'm now on a quest for a firming eye gel or the like.  I have used one for years and recently stopped simply because I ran out.  I do notice that I don't like the skin on my browbones as much as I used to when I was using the gel.  Hmmmm.  I guess it was working.  Maybe I'll try the Neutrogena Firming Serum for face and use it all over, including my upper lids.  Any other ideas?

For my eye base, I use neutrogena stick in number 4.  I use a MAC brush that is especially for cream based makeup, and I love it.

Tina, the eye make-up base is a bit thicker. You make sure you put your eye make-up on when it's still "wet" so the make-up will stick to it.

Hey, guys! For my brow highlighter, I just use the light concealer I use under my eyes. It goes with any color shadow and obviously lasts all day. It does what I want, which is to make it look like my eyes are more deep-set and less old and baggy!

I'm interested in this eye makeup base....do you apply it just over the upper lids? And Rockmom....does the CVS brand call it that (eye makeup base)?

To highlight my brow bone, I also use my concealer, applying it with a great concealer brush I bought from Sephora. But I also have started to extend my lid color, which is usually a very pale beige, up a bit from over the outer half of the eye. It really helps to open my eyes up some. I'm always trying to get that almond-shaped look....

Marin, you can just ask the clerk for eyelid, eyeshadow, etc base.  I apply it all on the eyelid and upper brow, wherever I intend to put eyeshadow.

Tina, the Clinique Touch Base for eyes is reasonable at $14, and is designed to be used alone as a pretty neutral eyecolor or as a base for more distinctive colors. I like the Light Canvas, looks great by itself with just a sweep of mascara and it helps to counter the pink I have in my eyelids, too.

Can someone tell me about these liquids to put on after moisture and before foundation?  Like Smashbox ??(brain dead).  Will they work under minerals as well as under liquid foundation?

They are supposed to provide a smoother look and "fill in" pores and wrinkles.

Dotti, I have used the Smashbox Photofinish (they're called primers) for a couple of years and yes, it does fill in pores and small lines so that foundation doesn't sink into and settle into them.  The overall look is subtly enhanced but definitely smoother in my case.  I have always had larger pores, esp. on my nose and adjacent cheek areas.

If you don't have pores or lines, fuggedaboutit!  You don't need it.

I've seen these products in many cosmetic lines but the only one I've used is the Smashbox.  Sephora carries it and probably some of the better dept. stores.  I bought mine online and started with the travel size for $16.00.

As far as using over minerals, I don't know.  I don't use them as I like a liquid foundation.

Just ordered a bunch of stuff from http://www.aubrey-organics.com/skincare/skincare.html .  After messing around with different eye area moisturizers, I realized that I liked my Lumessence best of all for tightening so decided to try more of their skin care line.  I've used their shampoos and conditioners and like them, too.  Plus, for you gals who are trying to avoid parabens and the like, these products are all free of them and any nasty stuff.  All organic, although I am not fussy about that in cosmetics.

Tina...Thanks for that link. I've been thinking about trying their fragrance, Ocean Waters. While stumbling around on the site though, I saw their "Try-Me-Outs" which are samples of their stuff for around $3 each. What fun!

    http://www.aubrey-organics.com/categories1.cfm?cat=14

Dotti....There must be something wrong with me because the Photofinish stuff doesn't seem to make a difference. I use a Clinique foundation that does the trick and makes my skin look almost velvety, so maybe I just don't need the primer?

I think you are right, Marian, and thanks, Tina

I really don't have many lines (thank you MOM) esp. for my age, and the pores aren't too bad either.  Maybe I'll just skip it and put that money toward a new fragrance I really, really want.

OK girls, I need summer hair advice. I'm one year out from chemo. My hair is thick and unruly. Surprisingly, I'm only just starting to get my chemo curls .. well, waves really. Prior to chemo, I had long hair, halfway down my back. Now, it's halfway down my neck.

Here's my quandary. I *think* my ultimate goal is shoulder length. Right now, it's too short to pull back. Should I keep it short enough so that I don't broil over the summer and then commence growing it out in the fall?

    Thanks,

    Hillary

    Hillary,

Merely my opinion, but I think you should let it grow. If your goal is shoulder length hair, you'd lose three months of growth time (which is about 1.5 inches) - doesn't seem like a lot, but it adds up. I've had my hair cut three times since finishing chemo (18 months ago) - tiny tiny trims, just to even and shape. The hair is now to the bottom of my neck, but I've sworn off any more cuts unless it starts looking damaged. Good luck and hang in there - I know, it seems to take forever - but hey, we've got hair! Hillary, for me, I cut the bottom so the layers can catch up.  I am shoulder length in the front with bangs but I want the crown to grow out so I have one length. I keep the back shorter .....

I'm getting my hair colored tomorrow!  I'm a little nervous, but super excited.  I'm also having a blowout, and I can't wait to see how long it is when it's not super curly.

I will take a picture and post it when I get home tomorrow.

I'm planning on a deep chestnut brown, with deep red undertones.

    cross your fingers.

Beth..You're gonna be absolutely GORGEOUS! Can't wait to see the pic!

Hillary...I agree with Raye that you shouldn't chop anything off or you'll lose precious growing time. Mid-neck sounds like you can pull the sides back or somehow clip them up, can't you? I have grown my hair out while still retaining all of the layers I want because my hairdresser is a magician and has worked with me for two years to keep it looking nice always. It just takes a little planning and practice with different looks at each juncture. Have fun buying ornaments and stuff for it, not to mention all of the "products" (never used that term before chemo!)!

I have a confession, y'all....I'm dating this new guy and he has a boat and belongs to a super-posh gym with an outdoor pool. So of course I'm on a diet and have bought a new VS bikini for the skinnier me. But I've also gone back to the tanning salon Surprised! Listen, it was meant to be...I went in and wanted to pay for "just one" session, but the owner told me that I had 6 left from last year! Sorry to say, I was thrilled!!! Embarassed Oooooooooh, I feel so good already! Over on the Mojo-singles thread, Jule and Pepper would say I'm BEING BAD, BAD, BAD!

Hillary here's my thought.  No matter what, growing it out is a pain in the butt.  And the sooner you do it, the sooner you get through that phase.

If you think you're going to be too hot in summer, not being able to pull it up, then maybe you should trim it now...

however, if you go to Target, they have head bands that are fabric that go all the way around, thus pulling the hair off your face, and lifting it a little off the back of your neck too.

I like how Raye pulls separate parts into pony tails for the hair extension piece.

For a while I was only able to pull the top part off my face, and when I finally got the whole thing in a pony tail holder, there were tons of pieces that fell out-- so bobby pins are needed.

It's the great debate.  For me, I just needed it to grow.  After those first trims when I had new growth left me crying, I let it get to that page boy bob length, had a teeny clean up of the ends, and haven't cut it since.

If they tell me I need a trim tomorrow, I may do it-- but if more than a dusting comes off the length someone will have to bail me out of jail.

ooh ooh Beth - oh yes, post a pic; you will look so awesome. A blow out - it's been sooo long. What color?

Yes, Marin, good point - at mid-neck length you should be able to put your hair in clips - I did, actually stayed better because it was shorter then and I could use little clips.

And Marin, I can't wait to see this suit!! Can you post a pic of it? I just love your sinful stories of the tanning bed. I am very very light brown with envy.

Beth - True about the head bands - I used the elastic and also the fabric (with elastic). When my hair was shorter, I would use them to pull up any strays after I put my clips in.

I got this link in an email today and thought that the eye makeup ideas were ones I'd like to try. Check them out:  http://www.oprah.com/beauty/makeup/beauty_makeup_200702_eyes_101.jhtml

And Raye...after I lose these 10 effing pounds and get the new suit (delivery in early-mid-June), I'll see if my friend can take a pic. The tan should be coming along by then. Only my front, from neck to you-know-what got color from the last session, but I've "graduated" to the VIP bed with stronger lamps and am going again Saturday before entertaining my new man-friend. Wink
