okay girls. i'm home, and I love my hair color-- although none of these pics do it justice... they don't pick up how red it really is under the dark brown... here's a few shots
-
-
-
sorry that they are so big. Please excuse my makeup that's been on since 7 this morning... anyway, it's darker, and a little redder in person-- I love it!!!
I'm gonna turn it up a notch in 8 weeks.
-
Raye, your dog drives and my Flat Stanley drinks coffee .... I love to change my avatars .... hope you ladies aren't bothered by it.
----
So, when Laura GTO and I were in Vegas, I put the white eyeshadow on her inner eye up to the brow and it looked killer. She loved it!
----
My dad got me some some anti-aging creams and moisturizers. How sweet is that? He knows I am broke and was watching Dr Oz on tv and Dr Oz recommends Garnier products with the Omega3+6, rice protein and Vitamin A ... which your body doesn't make so your skin, your body's largest organ, can absorb these products. He got me the daily one, the the nightime one and the make-up remover. I love them. He has been using them and said that people notice the difference on him. The reviews say you can see a dif in about a week.
-
I can't see your photos until I get home from work .... my computer blocks all photos from personal storage websites. And sex sites. So if you posted your pic on a sex site, I can't see it either ! LOL! ...
You could make it your temporary avatar then I could see it!! Or email me and then I could! I am dying to see it!
-
Beth! I love your hair- so silky, so long and healthy...the color is great. You are ravishing!!! You've got some nice color on your face - is that a bronzer?
Rocktober - I am a big fan of changing avatars, not to mention - I really don't like having my face on the avatar. Who is Flat Stanley? I have a feeling I should probably know this. He is very cute. Speaking of eye makeup, I've been using the black eyeliner pencil inside my upper eyelids, makes my lashes seem darker and fuller - although it's a bit hard to do, especially with contacts.
-
BETH....ABSO-FREAKIN-LUTELY GORGEOUS!!!!! I love the color AND I love your hair....it's so soft and silky-looking! I'm going back and read all of your hair tips. Mine's naturally straight, but not nearly a shiny as yours.
To quote a current top 40's song..."oooooow, you're a stunner"!

Oh, Beth! I can see the red, yes I can, and the color is gorgeous! As Marin says, so SILKY looking. You are just a picture! Have a fabulous time flaunting your new look. (I'll bet the BF was bowled over.)
I had my hair colored, too, yesterday. A bit of a trim on the "burns," and some gel and good to go. One of these days, I will take a picture, too, so I can scare you all.
I'm just chicken.Raye, I finally found the L'Oreal Sublime Bronze with tint, in the tube, for med. skin. I have not seen anything for light skin so maybe they don't make it. Anyway, you are right. It works great and DOES NOT STINK. The best of all the tanning products I have used. I do have a complaint, though. This line, probably others, has so many variations it is easy to buy the wrong thing. I have a whole cupboard full of cast-off mistakes. Guess I will just bite the bullet and chuck them all. They're not doing me any good where they are.
I was reading the book I mentioned (Surgery Free Makeover) and found there are three main reasons for bags under the eyes: slipped fat pads, excess skin and loosening of the muscle under the eye. The author says that, anecdotally, exercising the under-eye muscle helps with the last cause. Just pull the skin around your eyes gently to the side, tilt your head back a bit and squint until you see the muscle move up. Do this about 30 times twice a day for about a month and you may see improvement.
Rocktober, your dad sounds awesome.

Thanks so much girls! Today I had did my hair curly again, and the color is perfect. I put the top down in my car on the way home from the court house, and the red was shimmering.
Silky hair is a combination of nutrients, water, conditioner and product.
I love the new Herbal Essence LONG TERM RELATIONSHIP shampoo and conditioner. Then I got a very wide paddle brush so I don't rip out too much when I brush. I put a dine size amount of Hydra Silk TLC leave in conditioner. None of my products like gel or mousse have alcohol in them, and I always finish with a pea size amount of john freida color glaze-- it's like silicone for your hair.
Now- if you have thin straight hair, you may get greasy if you use all this stuff. My hair is so porous and curly, that I can do all that and use another conditioner and still get frizz.
Anyway-- I am gonna take it one step further in 6-8 weeks. Maybe add some very, very thin red highlights to the front.
I really love it!!!
A good hair color/cut can seriously do wonders for self esteem. Before cancer I colored my hair like crazy, and post cancer, I waited so long to do anything to it... and it worked out so well.

Product report: Clinique High Impact Mascara
There was a sample of this in the Clinique Bonus Gift a few weeks ago. I am using it on my lashes which have been falling out for the fourth time but not all at once, thank God. Lashes are about half their normal length but you'd never know it after two coats of this terrific mascara. It comes off easily, too, with a wet facecloth, but doesn't rub or smear in the wearing. I'm impressed.

Raye, Flat Stanley is a series of books about a boy who gets flattened by a bulletin board! Instead of being sad about his new shape, he is happy and his parents can then send him on great adventures thru the mail. So, Flat Stanley has become a big school project all over the world for k-3 maybe? They read one of the books, cut out their Stanley, then mail him somewhere and that person takes him on an adventure, takes pics, writes about what he did in your city and mails it back. Then the kids in the class that my dd is in, they put stick pins on their map so they can see how far their Flats went ... so in reality, it's like Geography 001 ! LOL
-
Beth, love the hair!!!!
-
Oh, Rockmom....I LOVE the Flat Stanley idea and will check out the book on my next trip to B&N! I adore children's books and so miss having someone to read them to (my daughter is 24 and getting her grad degree in library science, so I'm thinkin' that she enjoyed all of that book-sharing as much as I did!)!
I have to say that I'm noticing a HUGE improvement in my "look" from having incorporated many of the skin care and makeup tips in this thread. I hope that someone is keeping a copy of the entire thread because one day, we may all agree to make a book of it....something like one of those cookbooks that churches, schools or community groups put out. Just think of having all of these tips organized ina book and being able to reference ideas when a problem or issue comes up!

I have a new recommendation for those who color their hair. I usually have it done every 4-5 weeks, but lately my additional grey makes the hair line show up MUCH sooner. I don't really need a hair cut, but get one when I get the color.
Well, I've done a perm in over a year and am ready to get one, but my hair is really short, in order to be lightweight and try for fluffy.
ANyway! I want it to grow for the perm.
Found that Clariol, Nice and Easy, and many others make a small dye you can use just for roots! It's just a small amount, enough to do your part, crown, sides and sideburns. I read to leave it on longer than the recommended 10 min and left it on 25 min. IT WORKS!!!
NO ROOTS!!!! Really easy with a curved brush and small pan to mix it that comes in the pkg.
I am just thrilled to delay a color for another 3-4 weeks and may even do it again to delay another few weeks. My hair salon color stays in really well, especially for a red, so I may be set for a long while, and let it really grow out.
It comes in lots of colors, so you can match it up.

Hey ladies,
Hope you don't mind me jumping in...I am sooooo ready to be "moving on".
I have a few questions being fresh out of chemo/surgery mode and you all seem like just the experts for the case....
I was going to buy that stuff revitalash, but was told that the maker is being sued and the new product is nuelash. I was wondering if any of you have tried it and seen a difference in eyelash growth? I am going crazy waiting for my hair and eyelashes to grow back!
Thanks!
-
jaysdoll....Dotti (iodine) has used it and reports liking it, but I don't think it was post-chemo. The thing about those post-chemo eyelash losses is that they're due to follicles that were destroyed and are trying to re-establish themselves in a renewed cycle. Mine fell out 3 times over the course of the first 1 1/2 years after chemo, but they always grew back quickly and then, finally, the cycle re-adjusted and became normal again. The most wonderful feeling is your lids the day that you notice the tiny little bristles popping out....and hang in there because it will be VERY soon!
~Marin
-
Marin is correct.
-
Thanks Marin and Dotti!
-
Marin, you shoulda seen what my Rocktober sisters did with Flat! He travelled all over the world to see LauraGTO in Illinois and to Washington State, Israel, England, North Dakota, Canada (he got to go into surgery with my dr friend), Indiana ... oh it was a fun project and all the souvenirs he got!!!!
-
welcome to the makeup thread jaysdoll!
soooo, I was in Target the other day (actually three different targets looking for this glider that is completely sold out) and I've told you guys before about the bronzer I use-- the physicians formula Shimmer strips.
I have two shades- the sunset strip, and the miami strip (which I like better).
Anyway, they had this new package deal, with the miami strip and then it came with a black felt tip eye definer liner. OMG- this is the best thing EVER!!! It looks like it could be a liquid liner, although it's a felt tipped marker. It is error proof b/c of the way it is shaped. I normally use black liner, and we've all talked about how it gets smudged and drippy by the end of the day-- this stuff is a miracle. It just stays put almost like a liquid-- without the hassle.
I don't know if they sell it seperately. It looks like its a new product they are rolling out. But I totally recommend it for anyone looking for a dark liner that won't smudge.
-
Rocktober - I love the well traveled (awesome BTW!!) Flat Stanley. That he is not sad about his new shape makes me love him even more - I can relate to that or at least try to accept the change to my shape due to BC.
Jaysdoll - Welcome!! Yes, I agree with Marin. It just takes some time, but before you know it, lashes will be poking through. I used a non-waterproof mascara for a while after chemo since the waterproof is harder to remove and I didn't want to chance taking any of those precious new lashes with it.
Thanks for the liner tip, Beth. I am all about the dark liner.

My Aubrey Organics came the other day and I have been giving it a try. Boy, if you haven't tried the Lumessence eye stuff you really should. It's wonderful.
I bought the Sea Buckthorn day moisturizer and like it very much.
The Rosa Mosqueta night cream is very good but probably too rich for me as I'm not as dry as I thought. That's a good thing. But, it still works fine.
The Sea Buckthorn serum will take some time to see if it yields any results. I used it on my entire face the first day and it turned my skin yellow! Then, I read on the package that it isn't suitable for very fair skins due to high carotinoid content. Grrr. Well, for medium and dark tones, I'm sure it's fine. In fact, it kind of gave me a tanned look with makeup over it. But, I've decided to use it only around my eyes and at night. I'm watching for pillow stains and will let you know if that's a problem.
The Collagen & Almond hand and body lotion is wonderful! I'm using this all over, including massaging my surgical scars from the tummy tuck. I found that the Aquaphor was making me itch. I think it was too much, being trapped inside my nylon panties and that's what was causing the irritation. So, I've switched to the lotion.
I got a free sample of the Rosa Mosqueta body lotion. THAT is soooo nice, too. I don't know which one I prefer.
Another free sample was the Sea Buckthorn facial cleanser. Very good, not drying.
Disclaimer: I love the scent of the Sea Buckthorn products but not everyone does. They remind me of curry, for some reason, but I love curry. They do not smell strong once applied, though.
Glad to see you, jaysdoll! Visit frequently if you can.
-
Thanks for the warm welcome!
Just wondering if anyone has tried the nivea body tanner? It is similar to Jergens but looks more natural and doesn't smell as bad. I really like it and it helps me stay away from those tempting tanning beds.

Man I missed you girlz!
Raye & Beth - Wow - you girlz look FAB!
Marin, Tina, Dotti, EVERYONE - HI!
Kelly and I and all the Rocktober Girls had a GREAT time in Las Vegas. It was awesome sharing a room. Getting ready to go out each night was fun!
Kell did my eye makeup for me...I could use a few more lessons.
Hillary - This is Paula - one of the Rocktober girls. She has hair like yours (from what I can tell from your avatar)...she let hers grow after chemo...and keeps the curls under control with anti frizz sprays. Her hair is gorgeous...she has some subtle blondish highlights. Just thought it might give you an idea for a style. Isn't hair great! LOL
J - I've been pretty happy with the Loreal Sublime tanner...but will check out the Nivea...ya never know!
Hope you all have a gorgeous evening!

-
Beth - your hair is stunning! So long and shining and the color is oh-so-flattering.
Tina - thanks for the product report on the Clinique mascara. My lashes also are doing another thinning. They simply have never yet attained their pre-chemo length and thickness and I am so ready for this to happen!
Rocktober and Laura - Vegas, baybee! You two must have had a blast! You look so great!
My hair has come in so much darker post-chemo that it sometimes startles me to see it in pictures. But I am so grateful not to have to color it at my age that I am reluctant to mess with it. I miss my blonde-ish-ness, but am afraid that trying to get highlights in hair this dark would result in brassiness or orange. I've heard that often chemo-curls relax or grow out, but does color change back? Your experiences?
Lisa
-
Laura! Wow, you look great! All you Rocktober girls look great! I'm so glad you have popped back in.

Lisa, when did you finish chemo? Mine was done mid-May last year. This makes it one full year the lashes are misbehavin'. Blechhhhh. My hair came back in grayer than before or perhaps I just didn't know how much gray I had because of coloring it for so many years. Like, since I was 13! I don't think it will change back to less gray. LOL
My chemo curls are pretty wild. If I want my hair to look good, I have to wash it or thoroughly wet it down every day, even though it isn't dirty. Of course, doing it daily helps keep it shiniest.
My hairdresser has been resisting cutting it, although last month he did trim about 1/2" from the ends to cut off that first growth. He says he likes what it's doing.
Myself, I think it needs a hedge trim. Even my husband made a remark about it needing a cut yesterday, so I think I will insist on a cut next time. I'm so afraid of it being cut at an awkward spot and just sticking out all over my head.Jaydoll, I have used the Nivea Firming gradual tanner/moisturizer. It is a very nice moisturizer, but makes my skin yellow, not tan. I've started using the L'Oreal Sublim Bronzer recommended by a couple of the gals here and I like that as much as anything else. After using it daily for a couple of weeks, I have tan legs (white body and face) so am dropping down to every three days. I think I stained my big toenails with it, though, as they look kind of funky, so I'll have to paint them. Any color suggestions: opaque or shimmer? White, natural, color?
-
Laura -- Thanks for the photos. I wish my hair looked as good as Paula's. It get really bushy. When I went to my wonderful hairdresser, we both agreed that it needed to be thinned, especially in the back. We're letting the top grow, however. I'm really pleased with how it looks. I've worked out a "product" routine, where I first put on Redken Hardware, especially on the sides to keep them in place. Then, I put on Redken Rewind. I know that Beth will probably be aghast at what I'm using - LOL!
All you Rocktober chicks look great ... I remember devouring your thread in the chemo section when I first started -- it really helped to see that there was life after chemo!!
Hugs,
Hillary -
