    Hello Divas!

Am I the only one who is struggling in this holiday season??

I actually lost a few pounds on my Disney vacation in early Nov., which I attribute to the non-stop walking for a full week. Since we've been home it's another story. We came back to all the uneaten Halloween candy, then Thanksgiving--I've just found it so hard to stay focused and on track. Those pounds followed me home from Florida and brought a few friends along with them!

I actually recorded my points this morning for the first time in weeks, and it felt good to at least take that step. Any tips on how to get through the Christmas holiday without gaining back even more of what I've lost so far??

Hope you're all doing better than me. Have a great day!

I noticed that you were from Long Island, not sure exactly where. But the Slender lady thats near Long beach is doing a breast cancer night on dec. 13th with the long beach breast cancer coalition. They are going to talk about BC and exercise. I'm not a fan of big gyms, but Slender lady is really personal and the women there are great, many of them BC survivors. Just thought I'd let you know.

NO - YOU'RE NOT THE ONLY ONE STRUGGLING!!!!!!!! I have not been able to get back on track since the SF walk. Don't know what's wrong with me - holidays maybe????? I think I have resigned myself to wait until the holidays are over. I think it's a pshycological thing, I was in treatment last year during the holidays and I couldn't taste the food and goodies and I'm making up for lost time this year.

Lois & Eileen: I'm in the same boat although somehow I've been able to maintain my weight. We have a 5 lb. box of Danish butter cookies in my offfice. Every morning they call my name and I haven't been able to resist. I just keep going to the gym more and walking more, hoping that the added exercise controls the added eating. I leave for Florida in 2 weeks for Christmas and I really want to lose a few more lbs. At this point I'd be happy to stay the same until New Years though.

Hope all you Divas have a wonderful Hanukah and merry Christmas. - Janet

Ok back from an all inclusive vacation, Thanksgiving and NY breastcancer.org get together. Guess what the Adkins is working. I have not gained a pound through all the cheating. I am back on the wagon today, but Christmas is around the corner and tonight I am making chocolate peanut butter fudge for my husband's work holiday party.

Hello divas! I've been reading this thread and have thought numerous times how many of you sound just like me. I'm one year past diagnosis, finished treatment February 2004 and have gained lots of weight. I've had oopherectomy and am on lexapro and arimidex. 8 weeks ago I had my reconstruction and I can't quite get out of the glut. I was doing so good with diet and exercise (Atkins) before surgery...now I can't seem to get back on the diet. My lymphedema flared up last week and just too darn tired to exercise. Someone please tell me that there is light at the end of the tunnel if I would just get off my butt and get started again. I've managed not to gorge myself on holiday treats but I'm no angel. I've snuck sugar and carbs back in and can't seem to quit. Need some words of encouragement.

Hey Diva's ..Thought you would enjoy this one..LOL!!xoxo,Patti
    HOLIDAY EATING TIPS!
    1. Avoid carrot sticks. Anyone who puts carrots on a holiday buffet table knows nothing of the Christmas spirit. In fact, if you see carrots, leave immediately. Go next door, where they're serving rum balls.

    2. Drink as much eggnog as you can. And quickly. Like fine single-malt
scotch, it's rare. In fact, it's even rarer than single-malt scotch. You
can't find it any other time of year but now. So drink up! Who cares
that it has 10,000 calories in every sip? It's not as if you're going to
turn into an eggnog-aholic or something. It's a treat. Enjoy it. Have
one for me. Have two. It's later than you think. It's Christmas!

    3. If something comes with gravy, use it. That's the whole point of
gravy. Gr avy does not stand alone. Pour it on. Make a volcano out of your
mashed potatoes. Fill it with gravy. Eat the volcano. Repeat.

    4. As for mashed potatoes, always ask if they're made with skim milk or
whole milk. If it's skim, pass. Why bother? It's like buying a sports
    car with an automatic transmission.

    5. Do not have a snack before going to a party in an effort to control
your eating. The whole point of going to a Christmas party is to eat
other people's food for free. Lots of it. Hello?

    6. Under no circumstances should you exercise between now and New
Year's. You can do that in January when you have nothing else to do. This is the
time for long naps, which you'll need after circling the buffet table while carrying a 10-pound plate of food and that vat of eggnog.

    7. If you come across something really good at a buffet table, like
frosted Christmas cookies in the shape and size of Santa, position
yourself near them and don't budge. Have as many as you can before
becoming the center of attention. They're like a beautiful pair of
shoes. If you leave them behind, you're never going to see them again.

    8. Same for pies. Apple. Pumpkin. Mincemeat. Have a slice of each. Or,
if you don't like mincemeat, have two apples and one pumpkin. Always
have three. When else do you get to have more than one dessert? Labor
    Day?

    9. One final tip: If you don't feel terrible when you leave the party
or get up from the table , you haven't been paying attention.

Reread tips; start over, but hurry, January is just around the corner.

Remember this motto to live by:

"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of
arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to
skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, " martini " in the other,
body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a
    ride!"

Enjoy your holidays divas..I will begin my WW plan again in 2005....xoxo,Patti

I can't exercise at the moment either that is why I decided to go on Atkins and I have lost weight without bein hungry. The thing is that you need to stick to the diet and no cheating. I am now in menopause and the weight is real easy to put on. The aktins diet has allowed me to be happier about the way I look and believe it or not the way I feel. I hope that soon in 2005 I can go back to exercising.

    Good luck.

    Hello Ladies,

Last week we had a family get-together and my eyes jumped out of my head. Three of my family are taking a product for general well being. The side effect of it was weight loss. And I do mean weight loss! I couldn't believe my eyes. In one years time, they looked half their size.

Of course I am getting it and I will report back if it works. The 3 are all in their 60's not exercising or changing their diets, they said that they aren't as hungry any more.

It's sold either in powder or pill form and what's in it is beets, carrots and barley. That's the elixir part, and they take fiber a half hour before each meal which is probably working to keep them from eating too much at meal times.

I've tasted the powder stuff and when its all mixed together, it's an acquired taste, to say the least. It left me very thirsty too.

I'm willing to try anything, I spent a year watching everything I ate, and I did get some exercise and all I got from that routine was to not put on any more lbs. I'm not going to start this till January, and I'll let you all know if it works for me.

    Patti,

The products are sold at the Aim companies. The next time I go in for my vitamins, I'm going to look to see if they sell the same type of powdered beets, barley and fiber there. It could be that its just the fiber that's doing the trick for the weight loss.

YIKES!!!!!!!!! I got on the scale this morning - OH NO!!!!!!! It was bad, but not quite as bad as I thought it might be - I thought I'd gained 10 lbs since October - it was only 8 LOL!!! I have been soooooooooo bad. With the stupid stress on my new health issue, Thanksgiving & Christmas AND NO EXERCISING - I've been eating whatever I want. I have another mini-Christmas in 2 weeks when my niece comes to visit with my favorite little ones and after that I'm back on track and "tread" - that's treadmill.

Wishing all my diet diva friends a very HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Lois: 8 lbs. since October that's not too bad. I think I gained 8 lbs. in the past week (away in Florida for Christmas with a family reunion in Orlando). I'm going back on Core tomorrow. My body feels horrible--too much food and no exercise. Dawn - I love the Core program (when I stay on it). I've actually been able to lose about 10 lbs. since I started on it. Hope you all had a wonderful holiday. I did and now it's back to reality. - Janet

Oh yeah, it's back to reality, Lean Cuisines and oatmeal. No more Christmas cookies or candies and back to the pool. I am disgusted with myself and it was even more evident how much weight I've gained when I went through my clothes and took all my size 4's and 6's to Goodwill today. UGH. I'll be happy to get back to size 10!! Yes we need to support each other.... especially in about 3 weeks when we start to lose motivation. C'mon DIVAS!!!! We can do it. Maybe we should have a competition?? Maybe not, don't want to lose too fast or get hurt trying to do too much exercise.

Let's raise a glass of sparkling water and toast to 2005 being the year we got ourselves totally sexy for NED! image

I also gained over the holidays-10 pounds!!! I need help too, I have never weighed this much-just can't seem to get motivated. Should we have a weigh in? Or maybe that's too embarrasing, I know it's a bit embarrassing for me to say the numbers out loud, let alone put the numbers in type for all you cybersisters to see. Or maybe that's what I need, a dose of reality to get me moving.

    Ladies,

I'm determined to lose this year. No ifs about it. I have so much determination to lose these pounds that I can share that determination with you and still have some left over for myself. I even bought an exercise bike, and for now it's in my living room where I am, so no excuses not to put the time in.

That bike isn't easy. I'm trying to do 3 miles a day. Whew. Anyway, Wal-mart has them on sale. I thought I'd share that info with you all.

Well the atkins diet helped me not to put on pounds during the holiday's. I did eat a few bad things and had lots of celebrationaly drinks but no weight gain or loss. I am now back on track and I hope to introduce exercise into my regiment this year.

Lets all take a deep breath and hold hands as we journey down the lower weight path.

    WE CAN DO IT!

I followed Janet's advice all over Christmas and lost 1.6 lbs although I think the key was I upped the excercise. So here i am with weight loss 30.4 Lbs and still waiting for my surgery.

Floss: Congrats that's really great. I only wish I had followed my own advice. I was 1/2 lb. away from goal before christmas. Now I'm lucky if I'm 4 lbs. I definitely took a 2 weeks holiday from diet and exercise. I weigh in today and starting new. Keep up the good work.

Divas, we will ALL succeed in 2005. Remember don't try to do it all at once, if you're struggling add one healthy thing per week and work on that, the rest will fall into place. - Janet

So far so good! I've been really good in stuffing the face department, I mean, in a good way... and am not even getting the chocolate/sweets cravings I normally do, so my motivation must be high. It's 5:30 a.m. and I am off for my swim. My school is going to have a "Biggest Loser" competition, put us on teams only no one gets kicked off... just what I need to really give me kick in my big, fat heinie is a COMPETITION!!! Whoo hoo, let's go divas!!

I'm back from the holidays with some extra cushion. Hoping to get started exercising soon. I definitely need to diet also. I tried Atkins this last Summer and it worked but I'm having trouble getting through the induction phase right now. This is really hard for me to do. I've never had to diet in my life. Now, instant menopause and I'm as big as a whale. Eerrrgghh!! I need yall's motivation. Please keep me going.

Hello Divas! Time to face the music and get to work on all the pounds I put on from my holiday indulgences!

I'm also nervous about my 3-mo. check-up next week (with my rads onc. who I do not like and who I complained to Sloan Kettering about. She knows I complained--this is the first time I will see her since doing so, but was told by my med. onc. that I have to rotate between the 2 of them so I see the rads onc. every 6 mos). I can't seem to get back into the WW's groove, especially since my typical coping mechanism is chocolate and lots of it!

But I'll go back to my WW's meeting on Saturday and cringe as I get on the scale for the first time in 3 weeks! My leader is usually very good at motivating me, and that's what I need--a real boost of motivation.

My husband and I purchased a treadmill at Sears this week. He's a runner and is thrilled that he can now run indoors when the weather's cold or nasty. I have to start to walk on it as much as possible. I have no more excuses.

We can do this ladies! Just remember "inch by inch it's a cinch!"

Welcome back Eileen!! I just started back to WW this week after a really good 2 week vacation (gained almost 4 lbs.) After pigging out so badly, it's kind of nice being back on Core and feel in control again. Good luck next week with your check up. I'll be interested to know how she reacts. I see her sometime in February although I don't really know why.

Hilde: I like the idea of a "big loser" competition. Maybe that's what I need.

To all the other diet divas, remember it's a whole new year and we will do this TOGETHER. To add to Eileen's quote -- "slow and steady, steady and slow that's the only way to go." To any new divas here, I posted a really great recipe for chili (easy, delicious and is totally CORE, 1 point on flex, if you are doing Weight Watchers) a while back. If you'd like it again I'd be happy to repost it.

    Have a great non-fattening weekend. - Janet

Well, Divas I had a very pleasant surprise this morning when I WEIGHED myself. I reported earlier that I had gained 8 lbs. since October, I'm happy to report as of this morning I lost 3 lbs!!!!! It's probably just "water" but who cares it's 3 lbs. All the Christmas goodies are gone at work and home, so no temptations there. I'm back to eating lighter. Still haven't fit exercise into the program yet, but I'm getting there.

I hope everyone has a great weekend, here in beautiful "sunny" So. Calif, we're going to try and stay DRY. Major rain storm hit this morning and it's predicted to be around all weekend.

    Patti,

I just got the powders in today and I am stuffed. I feel like I just ate a gigantic meal and its been 2 hours since I ate a small nothing meal.

It's the fiber doing it. It blows up and makes you feel full and I only took a tsp of it before dinner. This better work cause it tastes like ...
