Denise - Binson's Educational Center, 25709 Van Dyke, Center Line
3/4 Mile South of I-696 on West side of Van Dyke. 586-757-2755
We'll be there at around 10:00 a.m. and I think we stay until about 2 or 3?
Hockey Town works for a big group. If you go to Greek Town, do you walk there?
-
Nancy...........I couldn't post during your work hours, so I hope you see this!
(Don't make me call you!)
The Funeral tomorrow is at 1:00p...............perfect timing, I know. I'm trying to decide if I have enough time to come down before or not.
I feel bad that you and Irene get 'stuck' putting all the packets together every year...........and that is the only day they do it, right?
I know you are going away for the week............................If I don't make it, would you like to meet afterwards and let me buy you dinner? It's the least I can do....and Irene, you are more than welcome also....I'd like to do that.
I can also take some of the packets and help distribute them for you. I'm sure some of the girls are within my reach!
Let me know..............do you still have my Cell #? I'll check here later and in the morning..........will also let you know if I can swing both places (of course no where near each other!)
Hugs,
Denise

Wings-
Great job on the sign you made. The pink shows up really well on the dark board. I'm sure it will get you guys noticed.
Mary
-
Hey Nancy.................sent you a pm about today and the shirts!
Denise
-
Mary - Thank you for the sign compliment. I liked the one you did for us last year better. I did try to copy the butterfly theme. I had trouble finding cute ones where did you find yours? I still have my head bopper you made and plan on wearing it at the walk w/ pride.
Nancy - When is your deadline for Hockey Town reservations? A big HUG to you for all the work you do for organizing our team.
Irene & Nessie - Thank you for being there to lend a helping hand to Nancy. Wish I was closer to help out.
Hugs to the rest of the MI gang.
Wings

Denise - so sorry we kept missing you. I came home and had to nap! They changed the process this year and Irene and I kept bitchin we could run the thing much faster and efficient. Quietly of course, we didn't want them to take us up on it. They had everyone waiting in long lines and since there are more teams than ever this year, they need to find a new staging ground with some room. Everyone is bumping rears to move through the aisles.
There would be one spot that would cause a log jam and noone was moving. You feel terrible saying anything but two of the little old people were doing some counting and sure needed help at that station. I finally said something to Race Lady Jan and it turned out to be her mother. Darnit - am I a putz?
One good thing, things were counted and tripple counted. Many mistakes were found and noone can blame it on Irene and my chemobrain! We didn't get to work as a team this year but caught up in line when we had to wait and of course for lunch.
Denise - I'll send you my phone numbers through email. I don't think anything changed but we did go to Vonage some time ago.
I'm planning on wearing my head bopper from last year but as much as I've looked, I cannot duplicate that for the newbies. I did find something small that has to do with butterflies and dragonflies. But, I'm short. I'm scrounging around for more and the worse case is maybe the guys won't mind not having these "girly" things.
So, we got a very generous donation to the team and I do not know who the person is. They donated directly to Winggirl and to the team in honor of Lisa40 and Shelli. Her name is 'Anonymous' and she is not from Michigan. Please tell me who she is so we can all THANK HER! Wings - is this a relative or friend of yours'?
I figured that Lisa40 must be an angel and went to the Angel's list and that is right. My heart just dropped reading all the familiar names. Is Shelli - Shellik?
If 'Anonymous' is reading this post - thank you so much from all of us!
I am going to be out of town after today but will catch up as much as I can from next Thursday night to the race day. We will figure something out!
About Hockey Town - Last year was the only year they took reservations and that was because we had such a huge group. I nervously had to give my credit card for that but it worked out fine. In previous years they took call ahead seating which I called the evening before I think. If I get a guestimate, I'll call and tell them we are coming.
Anyone want my phone numbers, give me a yell!

Edited to remove the donor's name since she would like to remain anonymous. Thank you dear sweet person!

Laughing at Nancy..........
Open mouth and insert foot!! That is so me....1000 people around and you pick the ladies Daughter!!!!
Faith........Looks like you had a wonderful time at the walk and we sure wish you were able to walk with us again this year!
I've decided that my family just wants to eat wherever I don't suggest.....all except my DD who would go anywhere..........I know she won't be able to hang around to long because she is nursing the baby and after a few hours not only will the little guy be hungry, but she'll fill up and look like she's applying for a job at Hooters! Not to appropriate for a BC walk!
Little Miss....my GD....is with me and sounds like she is trying to wake up from her rest.............catch you all later.
Denise

I hope all of you guys, like me, don't have to go through what we had to go through before. I hope that all of you daughters, grandaughters, neices, sisters, etc. don't get it either.
God is with us all!!!

Winggirl- Love the sign!
My friends ended up not joining this year, but they promise to next year.
I am volunteering to make head boppers if we have anyone new or anyone that doesn't have theirs from last year. I haven't been able to find the pretty butterflies we had last year, but am working on making something that will work.
Let me know if you need boppers!!
Judy
-
Rockysmom - I sent you email. That is fantastic about the boppers. I couldn't find those cute butterflies that kats had either. Ignore what I said about your t-shirt. I just re-checked the roster and see you had yours' mailed.
Linda has a van with room if you West siders want to meet us and drive in. Send me email or a private message for details. We also have other cars following.
Irene - I have your spare t-shirt. I didn't realize they gave us them this year.
They didn't give us the "In Memory of" and "In Honor of" banners this year. Maybe they will have them at the Race.
With all the counting and re-counting, I was short one pin and had extra number banners. I don't collect the pins so it is no big deal. It all came down to the last counter who insisted others were wrong.
Judy B., send me a PM if you and DH are thinking of coming. Also, how is your daughter? Please check in!
Candi - It is so nice to hear from you. Come back and tell us how your son is doing. He's in College now, right?
If I don't hear from anyone, let's meet at the Team Meet lot again. Look for Wings' beautiful sign.
-
I'm sorry I wasn't able to come and help with the packaging- work and Dr appts have kept me busy the past two weeks.
I will be heading in to town with my Sister- she works the "stuff check" for UPS every year.
I have half a dozen boppers already made (some cuter than others as I practice-lol) and have supplies for at least six more.
Let me know if anyone thinks we need more than a dozen! I have the time to create
Also, would anyone be interested in a butterfly "wings of hope" pin instead of / in addition to boppers? I have some stiff felt and foam that would make good "name tags"
Looking forward to seeing you all Saturday

Hello
Nancy: No, we won't be able to make it this year. I work on Saturdays now, and since I manage the tutoring center, I have to be there.
Julia is about the same, no changes, but thank you for asking. It's so hard. It's nice to know that people out there are thinking about us. Thanks to all that have sent well-wishes.
I hope you guys have fun and that the weather is good for your walk. I'll be thinking about you guys on Saturday!
Judy B.

Nancy-winggirl-rockysmom-
The butterflies I used for the sign and the headboppers came from different places. The bigger ones for the sign and some of the headboppers came from Hobby Lobby, the pink 'cute' ones for the headboppers came from Wal-Mart in the sewing department (they came on fishing type line & used for window decorations) and sold by the yard. The other ones on the headboppers I ordered from The Oriental Trading Company on line.
I'm hoping you all have good weather on Saturday.
rockysmom- I'd love to have one of the headboppers and/or "wings of hope" pins that you made.
We're sorry we weren't able to make it this year....DH and I are already talking about making it next year for sure.
Mary
-
We are really going to miss you, DH and grand kitten this year - kats!
Wings Team - check your email about a traffic advisory for Saturday!
About Hockey Town - they will not take reservations or call ahead seating this year. I think we have 24 for lunch. I tried to get the Manager and this rude little ...thing... put me right in voice mail. I'll try again later. I explained that they say this every year but always make an exception for Wings of Hope! It didn't fly. We can take our chances or if anyone knows of anything else, let us know. Some of the places nearby sound ok but are not open for lunch on Saturdays! There is always Greektown but I think it isn't walking distance.
Rockysmom - check your messages.
gcpommom - We are thinking of you and your family and crossing everything for Julia.
-
Nancy,
Can you add 3 more for lunch? DH, daughter and me. Thanks.
Rockysmom - I will be honored to wear one of your creations.
WingGirl
-
Hi!
Just wanted to pop in and say hello - can't wait to see everyone Saturday! We're going to miss everyone who can't make it this year.
Irene
-
Sphynx- I received an email about the traffic advisory, but nothing else. Did you send more? If so, please re-send. thanks
Kats- I'll save you a bopper and pin
-
OK, I have 12 complete Boppers, and enough "team tags" (pins) for the whole team.
Let me know if we need more than 12 boppers. I have plenty of supplies (and time) to make more.
Is anyone going to the pre race expo ? I have Friday off work and was thinking about going.
Hoping for good weather Saturday!
-
Holy Moly Rockysmom, that is one big donation I received notice of this morning! Did you collect from work or win the lotto? Thank you so much from all of us. I sent you a pm about boppers.
I think we have 9 new members on the Team but one is a guy and I'm pretty sure he doesn't want to wear a head bopper. When he saw the t-shirt I heard him say, "Oh man, it's pink" and that was about the white one! It was too funny. I found butterflies on a stick and enough for everyone. They are metal so we can all poke our eyes out with them. I'm giving the guys one and hoping they will carry them so I don't get stuck carrying the bunch. Kats, I'm sending you one also.
I'm not sure about the pre-race expo yet.

That donation was a collection from work- I went begging-LOL
Most people gave 1-2 $, and a number of them gave $5. I may have just a tad bit more by the end of the week. I had been hoping to raise 1K this year, but, as you know, it's a tough economy right now. It also didn't help that we have a number of others collecting for Relay For Life and one other walker for this one.
Nancy- They had pink "camo" bandanas at the craft store- should we make the ney guy wear one
?
-
I am sooooo bad at donations........I feel bad.......maybe next year I'll push for them!
Nancy..thanks for the heads up on the Traffic situation for Sat.....on top of that they are having a big doings for the 'bulldogs' air show.............can we say between the walk, the air show and the game.......parking will be at a premium for sure!
I'm letting my teeth/mouth recover a bit, so I hope to be back tonight or tomorrow!
Hugs,
Neesie
(p.s.....................family can drive you nuts!)
