I'm so ashamed of the dems for asking Hillary to step down. We shot ourselves in the foot with our system of electing a candidate to the primary.

I'll have to vote for McCain if Hillary doesn't make it.  My first ever Republican vote.

    oops phone.

The Obama Change We Really Can Believe In

    By Peggy Shapiro
Barack Obama's call to action is "Change we can believe in." I would love to believe it, but until now I haven't even been able to understand it. What is going to change?  With his latest about face on direct talks with Iran's Ahmadinejad, Obama has finally clarified what he is going to change: his opinion. From terror to funding for tots, where there's controversy and two sides to be wooed, there is the Obama about-face.

On unconditional presidential meeting with terror-sponsoring states: Yes to No

This week, Obama's key foreign policy advisor, Susan E. Rice, told the New York Times that Obama never claimed he would be willing to meet "unconditionally" with Iran's president  Mr. Ahmadinejad. Dr. Rice said that Obama would not meet at the presidential level with this Iran or any other so-called "rogue" state without the preparation to use such a meeting as the candidate and his sloganleverage for change. In fact, it was only right-wing machinations or imagination that "distorted and reframed" Obama's views.

That was certainly a change from numerous statements candidate Obama made on the same topic.  Did John McCain enter the following posting on Obama's campaign website? "Obama is the only major candidate who supports tough, direct presidential diplomacy with Iran without preconditions."

Nothing could have been clearer than Obama's response to Anderson Cooper during the YouTube debate. (transcript)
COOPER: In the spirit of that type of bold leadership, would you be willing to meet separately, without precondition, during the first year of your administration, in Washington or anywhere else, with the leaders of Iran, Syria, Venezuela, Cuba and North Korea, in order to bridge the gap that divides our countries? Senator Obama?

    OBAMA: I would..
On talking with the terrorist group Hamas: No to Yes (but it wasn't really me)

Obama has repeatedly stated that he would not engage in talks with Hamas until the group stopped its terror campaign against Israel, yet on May 9, 2008 the Times of London reported that Obama adviser Robert Malley, a noted critic of Israel, had been conducting talks with Hamas. Of course, Malley's position of advisor was downgraded to "informal." How did Obama fire Malley if the man never worked for him?

On driver's licenses for illegal immigrants: Yes to huh?

As an Illinois state senator, Obama voted to require illegal immigrants get a license. His position seemed cleared, yet when Wolf Blitzer questioned Obama about his stance, the response was anything but clear. From  the November 15, 2007 debate:
BLITZER: "I take it, Senator Obama, you support giving driver's licenses to illegal immigrants. Is that right?" OBAMA:"...I have to make sure that people understand the problem we have here is not driver's licenses.  Undocumented workers don't come here to drive. (Laughter) they don't go - they're not coming here to go to the In-N-Out Burger. That's not the reason they're here.  They're here to work. And so instead of being distracted by what has now become a wedge issue, let's focus on actually solving the problem that... this administration, the Bush administration, has done nothing about."

BLITZER: "Do you support or oppose driver's licenses for illegal immigrants?"

OBAMA: "I am not proposing that that's what we do. What I'm saying is that we can't - No, no, no, no, look, I have already said I support the notion that we have to deal with public safety and that driver's licenses at the state level can make that happen.
Whatever the response really meant, it does not sound like a man who sticks to his convictions.

Funding child welfare: No to Yes

Sometimes the change of opinion is framed as an accidentally incorrect vote; for example, there was the time Barack Obama voted to cut millions of dollars from a Chicago-area child welfare office. When angry Democrats rebuked him, Obama claimed that he was not aware that he had voted no.  It may have been a mistake or an easy way to placate both sides of an issue.

Freer rules for riverboat casinos: Yes to No

When Chicago churches were opposing looser rules for riverboat casinos in 1997, Obama cast his vote with the gambling industry. After the measure passed, Obama stated that he wanted to be recorded as voting "no."  Voting both sides of an issue could perhaps garner him support from both churches and casinos.

Reverend Wright: Didn't say it, didn't hear it, isn't accurate, is justifiable, is unacceptable

The number of opinion reversals on Reverend Wright are mind-spinning: his church is not especially controversial, he never heard the hate-speech, the snippets of the sermons are "charicatures peddled by some commentators," the pastor's remarks were akin to those made by Obama's white grandmother, rejecting the anti-American and anti-Semitic minister would be rejecting all of black America, and on and on. Obama thus courts the radical left by participating comfortably in its extremism and mollifies middle American with a range of excuses.

Iraq War: It's dumb, I might be wrong, We can win, Failure would be a disaster, Failure's inevitable, I don't know, Reduce troops, not withdraw, Withdraw troops, Maybe?

Although Obama boasts that his is the Democratic candidate that has not changed its tune on the Iraq War, he has been quoted singing different lyrics. The Boston Globe online tracks some of Obama's variations.
October 2, 2002, Chicago Wearing a war is not an option pin, Obama called to the crowd," The Iraq war is a dumb war. A war based not on reason but on passion, not on principle, but on politics."

When America was obtaining clear victories on the ground in Iraq, Obama wrote in The Audacity of Hope,  "I began to suspect that I might have been wrong [about the war]"

On March 28, 2003, on CNN, Obama claimed, "I absolutely want to make sure that the troops have sufficient support to be able to win."

At the Democratic National Convention that July, 2004, his only mention of the war was, "There are patriots who opposed the war in Iraq and patriots who supported it."

July, 2004 "The failure of the Iraqi state would be a disaster...It would dishonor the 900-plus men and women who have already died. . . . It would be a betrayal of the promise that we made to the Iraqi people, and it would be hugely destabilizing from a national securityperspective.".

July 26, 2004 "I'm not privy to Senate intelligence reports. What would I have done? I don't know." The New York Times

2004 "I'm always careful to say that I was not in the Senate, so perhaps the reason I thought [the war] was such a bad idea was that I didn't have the benefit of U.S. intelligence," The New Yorker

November 2005 speech, he called for a gradual withdrawal of forces. "Notice that I say 'reduce,' and not 'fully withdraw [troops]'"

December, 2005), "It is arguable that the best politics going into '06 would be a clear, succinct message: 'Let's bring our troops home...But whether that's the best policy right now, I don't feel comfortable saying it is." Chicago Tribune

July 2007 "Presidential hopeful Barack Obama said the United States cannot use its military to solve humanitarian problems and that preventing a potential genocide in Iraq isn't a good enough reason to keep U.S. forces there."

March, 2008 Obama's website states, "Obama will remove one to two combat brigades each month, and have all of our combat brigades out of Iraq within 16 months."

March 7, 2008 Obama's then key foreign policy advisor Samantha Power, spoke on the commitment to get combat forces out in 16 months.  "You can't make a commitment in March 2008 about what circumstances will be like in January of 2009."
Although I still don't know how a President Obama would change the nation or if these "changes" would benefit or harm the country, I now know that there is a change I can believe in. Just present Barack Obama with a controversial issue which requires a firm stand on principle, and we are guaranteed change.

Shirley--I must have missed Lou Dobbs that night --quite an eye-opener

and runs pretty much along the lines about the naivete of unilateral disarmament that I posted which was really about Iran and Syria.  The subsequent posts veered off course to the British mandate and the Balfour declaration.

Wonderful news about Puppy, just wonderful. 10 hours of surgery. We need to keep her close in our thoughts or prayers.

Interesting, Susie about Mr. Obama's apparent flip flop.

Yet I need to understand more of Mr. McCain's plans on Iraq too. Obviously he is too much of a military strategist to tip his hand, yet don't American's have the right to know more than generalities.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Tender, from what I understand, at this point, McCain will keep the troops in Iraq until there's stability and the Iraqis are well trained.

There's no way that Obama or Hillary can promise to have our troops out of there in X number of months.  That's naive.  Obama said he's send troops back in if Al Queda set up bases there.

I have this feeling that the "war" has escalated due to our prez election.  That may sound cynical, but I believe Al Queda would like to influence the outcome of our election.  JMHO.

Just saw the end of Glenn Beck talking about a woman who just died after rescuing 2500 children from the Gestapo. It seems she was nominated for a Nobel Prize last year, but it went to AL gore instead. It is infuriating. This idiot makes a stupid movie that has been refuted and wins over someone like her. Then McCain ticked me off too tonight when he vows to  get on the global warming bandwagon. As I said, I believe in conservation, alternative energy, and try to walk the walk in every way I can, but there is no proof that all this government regulation will do anything but make it harder for businesses to compete and drive up the prices for everything as people and the market panic. So that is my continued bandwagon!

Prayers to you Puppie for a speedy recovery. Get well soon. We miss your humor!

Linda I could not agree with you more............many scientist now are saying that the world food shortage can be linked directly back to Al Gore and his stupid global warming that now has been changed to global change.....(the weather constantly changes)and then yesterday they said we are getting ready to go into a weather cool down for the next several years..........awgggggggggg..........I cannot stand Al Gore............do true environmentalist really believe that we can really do anything that determines our weather?........if we could control our weather rather directly or indirectly wouldn't we be a stop to what happen in Burma?......all the freaking tornadoes that AR, OK, and MO, and NC are enduring............the flooding in Delaware?...........oh my freaking goodness......I feel like my head is going to explode.......where in the heck is my duct tape?  Linda every time I even hear Al Bore's name mention my blood pressure shoots up...........jeez..............Shokk

Shokk, you are SO stupid!!! (so ban me for telling the truth) But of course WE (Americans as well as all of Earth's inhabitants) "control" weather - to a certain degree. Ya think the descimation of the rainforests has NO effect on weather patterns??? Oh, you Republicans are all the same.....

:::And now back to your regularly scheduled Republican program:::

    p. s. I SO respect Al Gore!!!!! At least he's smart AND articulate, unlike our current 'leader' (and I use that term VERY loosely).

And speaking of the Rain forest I may be "stupid".....(I'm sure that a tactful Liberal will correct me) but do we have any Rain forest in the United States?......I can't think of any and since we are not "Imperialist" we certainly don't have the right to tell some other country what they should be doing with their own land............or Rain forest........we don't have any control what Brazil or any other Country does with their own land resources......Shokk

I know that anyone has a right to post anywhere, but I wanted this thread to be a place for us to go without being blasted for our opinions. This is the RESPECTFULLY REPUBLICAN thread. The dems control the media, please allow us to have a place where we can come and give our opinions without opening a debate. There is another thread for that!!

    Thanks!

Schokk-Well said, Al Bore is right. I can't stand him!! God was watching over us when he didn't get elected. Do you know they are making our kids sit and listen to him in school. Why are they listening to him. Yes, our kids should be learning about our environment and learn to respect it, and do all they can to conserve, but come on, get a SCIENTIST to explain this stuff, not a loser like gore, who by the way has made millions on his little "documentary". And how does he justify all the flying around he did to promote his little project? Oh yeah, he supposedly buys those stupid credits to offset his carbon footprint. The guy who thought that one up is laughing all the way to the bank!

I washed my kids diapers, I rarely use paper towels or plates, I live in a house with an R50 value that seldom needs air conditioning and is piped for solar heat, if I can ever afford it. I used very little wood in my house, and my floors are natural stone or laminate that looks just like brazilian cherry, but did not cut down the rainforest, and I have planted at least 10 trees in my yard so far and will do more as I can afford it. I care as much about this planet as any dem. I just don't buy into this whole global warming lie that is more about making money and gaining political clout than it is about scientific proof. I bet Gores mansion is a huge energy and natural resource pit. He and his ilk are such HYPOCRITES!!!!

So spank me, Linda! Or hit me upside the head - your preference. Shokk started it when she picked on My Man AL Gore! Tongue out

Shokk, I'd LOVE to debate with you but Linda will only want to spank me, or hit me upside the head, so I guess we'll have to find a politically neutral bar and then arm wrestle! (FYI, I'm quite strong for my size - must be the 250# plus carts I push around, or the defense training I've had, or the CPR that I'm certified in, or the 30# of child that I lift and haul around when I'm not at work.....)

p.s. to Linda: You sure do live like a Democrat - why not hop on over and join the better side????? Kiss

And Tipper makes me want to barf. But I will say I am sooooooooooooooo glad Gore invented the internet cause otherwise I couldn't be posting this right now...LMFAO!

And you Dems beotching about your tax rebate not paying your mortgage payment, how did you plan on paying it if you weren't getting the rebate? I learned early on in business NEVER count bonuses as liveable salary. Course I am a Repub!

As I said, I suppose you have a right to post here, but I will not stoop to your level by attacking those who do not agree with me.

And by the way,  I was a dem, for the first half of my voting life. Then I woke up and started educating myself and realized the dems had never done anything that helped me get ahead. I did it all by myself, paid for my own education, had kids when I could afford to and never overspent myself into debt and then asked the government to bail me out. I realized that what I really wanted was lower taxes and the less government, hence I saw the light and I will never go back to the dark side.

Yes Jaybird there are temperate rain forest here in the U.S. but they have been under the National Forest System since 1907 and the only logging that is done there is under the supervision of the Federal Government and that is to reduce the underbrush to help control forest fires........our "temperate rain forest" have been preserved for just over 100 years...........not really sure what your point is............Shokk
