Retro-Themed Party Game
Comments
-
We're up next as far as hosting a dinner-themed party with a group of friends, and I'm thinking a Retro-Theme (60's-70's) would be just groovy! I could really use some ideas from foods (we do a complete full-course dinner), table-settings and favors, drinks, decorations, etc., and was hoping maybe you ladies might help by making a game of it here.
Anything goes! Just kindly list the catagory after the word; like appetizer, party favor, dress attire, music, etc. Also, if you have any fab recipes from the era that you'd like to share please do! I could use all the help I can get. Thanks! Your input is greatly appreciated. Peace and let's party!
I'll begin with...
-
FONDUE appetizer
-
Dress attire - polyester leisure suits for the men
long patchwork skirts wide belts and white blouses with wide collars for the ladies
-
or plaid bell bottoms, colors oranges and greens
strings of beads for the curtain for the door
oldie music
-
Black Light decorations I always loved em
-
Headbands were in then

An old main meal favorite from my 1969 Betty Crocker cookbook. Serve with white rice and a green salad.
Waikiki Meatballs 6 servings
1 1/2 lb ground beef
2/3 cup cracker crumbs
1/3 cup minced onion
1 egg
1 1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp ginger
1/4 cup milk
1 tbs oil
2 tbs cornstarch
1 can (13 1/2 oz) pineapple tidbits in syrup, drained (reserve syrup)
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup vinegar
1 tbs soy sauce
1/3 cup chopped green pepper
Mix throughly beef, crumbs, onion, egg, salt, ginger and milk. Shape mixture by rounded tablespoonfulls into balls.
Heat oil in skillet; brown and cook meatballs. Remove meatballs; keep warm. Pour fat from skillet.
Mix cornstarch and sugar. Stir in reserved pineapple syrup, vinegar, and soy sauce until smooth.
Pour into skillet; cook over medium heat , stirring constantly , until mixture thickens and boils. Boil and stir one minute.
Add meatballs, pineapple tidbits and green pepper; heat through. -
Okay TC, if rb floats are too tame, I'd say a punch bowl full of Purple Passion is in order! Hits of LSD in the candy dishes. I have some peace sign earrings you can use.
-
dress attire
go go boots mini skirt halter top and peace sign necklace
lets all give peace a chance
-
Oh this is like wayyy cool! lol
Tang - OMG, I remember that. I wonder if there's a way I can use it the the spiked Purple Passion? lol
Speaking of which, what the heck is Purple Passion? Do you have a recipe? Ahh...wait a minute, coming from a girl who suggests LSD in candy dishes, maybe I'd better hold up. lol And you say "I'm" naughty. lol
Sassa - Thank you so much for the meatball recipe. I just may try them out on DH.
K-bug - lol My daughter may be able to get away with that outfit, but I'd probably scare my guests off! Great idea though!
Does anyone have any soup ideas? I saw a retro page that listed Vichysoisse, but have never heard of it before? Anyone tried this?
I'm sure to go with
mood rings
-
Just stopped by to throw in a few suggestions for your party.
Remember moon pies? Goes hand in hand with the tang. Appetizer
I would also check out Oriental Trading for the door beads and smiley face decorations. They have great stuff and pretty good prices. Decorations
Peace, Love and War...
Have Fun!
Roxi -
Thanks Roxi! I found them when we did a Fiesta theme and they had all kinds of goodies!
I'm grocery shopping today and I'm going to see if Tang is still on the shelf. If so, it may be a bit dusty! lol

Games/activities: a limbo contest!
-
Yummy! Groovy! Far Out! Thanks MissS, that sounds perfect and quite tasty! It might even limber some up for the limbo contest!
So far for decor and party novelties, I've ordered...
Hippy Girl votive candles (table gift)
Peace Sign Necklaces (door greeting)
2 candles that drip down bottles in funky colors (My mom had those too!) lol
Any more food ideas? This has to be a full course event. I've got a few on appetizers and now a cool drink, but I've got a ways to go.

Party game:
I did this for a seventie party. A few weeks before the party I asked all the guest to give me a picture of them from that era. Then this is what you do with the pictures.
1. Make a big copy of the face
2. Cut the face out
3. Put the the face on a large tongue depressor
4. Put the person's name/age on the back of the picture
5. Stick them straight up in green fake moss in a line
6. Have your guest try to guess who is who.
We had a blast doing this! I handed out a gift for the person who identified the most people.
-
What about sunglasses as party favors? You know how they had light blue, light pink, lavender, red, and green sunglasses ... and mostly round!
-
Don't forget tie-dye! You can have some t-shirts for a party prize!
Here's a link to tie-dye party plates and napkins: http://partypantrystore.makesparties.com/Catalog.aspx?intDisplayableProductID=39281&intDisplayableCategoryID=1256

Angel food cake was something my mom made alot back then.
What about Ding-Dongs, Ho-Ho's and Twinkies?
Celery with peanut butter or cream cheese or pimiento cheese?
Too bad you don't know a Hip Hypnotist!! They were the rage!
-
You can make crepes for a main dish.
Sounds difficult but they are so easy!! I have a crepe maker and me and dd use it all the time. You can make the crepes ahead of time and then you can have out several choices for the filling. Maybe a chicken concoction, sausage and egg, cheese and spinach, even chocolate pudding or jam and cream cheese. Sour cream and cinnamon.
Of course, casseroles were big then .... Tuna Surprise!! LOL .. or a chicken and brocolli one with Stove Top stuffing as a crust and I use Campbell's Soup (cream of chicken/cream of celery or brocolli) as the filling with the chicken and broc.
Chicken Cacciatori. It's just chicken, spaghetti and spaghetti sauce. Easy.
-
Pepper - That game sounds like a blast! The more they drink, the harder it gets...or maybe easier. lol
Rocktobermom - Great ideas too! Love the glasses and am looking for a tie-dyed or psychedelic tablecloth. The partystore stuff is great, but this is a somewhat formal dinner so unfortunately I need to go with cloth.
Great food ideas - crepes, yum! And how could I forget the casseroles, I grew up on them. I think I will do an angelfood cake too, unless I find the recipe for a Harvey Wallbanger cake. (Read that somewhere, but haven't looked up a recipe yet).
Ahh, the hip hypnotist...that would be too funny!
For table party favors, I also found
candy cigarette boxes, liquid-filled wax candy bottles and cinnamon flavored tooth picks! I remember those! lol
