It's too bad they don't have a sex on the beach matching lotion so it last longer...it's the best scent!
-
Marin, you are one hot tamale. Sounds like you are on a roll. (Hmmm, tamales on a roll? Does that sound strange?) LOL
Good luck with this guy. I hope he deserves you.
I keep forgetting to mention a tip the aesthetician gave me years ago and some of you may benefit: Only thoroughly wash your face at night. In the morning, simply use warm water or toner UNLESS you are sweaty or have oily skin. Most "mature" babes do not need to use soap/detergent twice a day and it only dries skin out needlessly.
-
Marin - I agree with Tina - you are a hottie indeed!!! Tamales on a roll - strange? Not at all. Tamales can indeed roll - lol.
Tina - thanks for the info on the T3- I'll think I'll go to Target and get a Conair!
Speaking of hair color - The caramel color in your hair, Marin, sounds great and a think I a brown would look good on you, Beth.
Sometimes I think of going for some low lights - I don't know - my hair is so dark, it might not look right (or good). ??? What do you guys think?
-
I've been using the Nivea self-tanner stuff and the smell is there but not bad, probably because it doesn't have much in it, hence the "gradual" claim. It is turning my legs a shade of off-white
but in some areas they look a little yellow. Well, better than orange, I guess. Yikes! I think any chemical tanner is going to do this on my off-blue skin. Does anyone have recs for anything better? Maybe I am doomed to waiting for warm weather and sitting in the sun, but I really hate sunbathing. So boring.Has anyone used Burt's Bees Replenishing Lip stuff? With pomegranate oil? I have noticed that although it does not look like lipstick, it does tint my lips a tiny, tiny bit with pink. Just a half-shade darker than my natural color and very nice for no makeup days.
-
Tina - you really don't want my recommendation - bad bad. I am going to set a quit date for the tanning bed (I've only gone twice in the last 3 weeks, maintaining...).
However, did you ever try that self tanner by LOreal? The Sublime? It is tinted hence you can see it going on, which makes for less application boo boos. And it shows right away. I used it on my face earlier this year and had an instantly tan face. Give it a try. Oh, and it doesn't stink!

It's going to be 77 degrees here today. My plan is to finish work asap, get in my car, put the top down, and wear a summery off the shoulder shirt and go for a nice drive to the beach and back...
Here's to me coming back with some color.
-
We had summer weather here this weekend ..... I sat by the pool. Bad bad, I know, but for me, it's so relaxing to sit and read ... ice tea or a cold, cold beer ... mmmm.
-
When we went on our minivac to Ms coast, I thought I'd protected myself--yeah, right---too many Long Island Teas by the pool-
Now I'm peeling and look like an old onion!
-
OMG-- so I went for a drive with my top down, and I thought I'd be fine, cause it'd only be for 30 minutes or so. Well, I bumped into some friends who were riding bikes on the boardwalk, and stayed outside for two hours. I'm not completely fried, but my chest (the cut out where my tank top was) is pretty red. I look like an idiot.
I'll have to wear a high neck shirt to dinner at the American Cancer Society tonight.
-
Not too cool to show up at that event with a sunburn! Can't claim it's suntanning cream! LOL ...... Sorry Beth!!
-
Oh Beth and Dottie! sorry to hear about your burns. Maybe they'll fade into nice tans. Did you have your sunscreen on (I sound like a big sister or mom I know)?
My opinion is, why do we feel so bad if we get some sun - after all we've been through?
Ok guys, I bought a cheapie hair extension today (just a ponytail), but I think it's fun.

-
That looks adorable!!! Way to go!
I worked in the yard all day yesterday, burned my forearms and ears -- just wore a ball cap. So now my upper arms, back and chest are peeling and then the forearms will begin in a couple of days.
I forgot to put on sunscreen, thought i'd just make it a little while.
GOOD THING: I actually felt like working all day outside!!!! First spring in 5 years I've been able to do that, and also get up and down from the ground!!!
It was SO worth it. I also was so sore and worn out I used up one of my massage gift certifs to work out some of the poor muscles.
Ahhhhhh.
-
Does anyone know anything about eyelash perms and dyes?
-
Raye, that ponytail looks totally believable! You look great.
Dotti, the aesthetician I used to go to would dye my lashes now and then so I would not have to wear mascara, but, of course, the dye does not make the lashes longer if that's what you're after. Just darker. And, she used a specific dye, not hair dye. I don't know what kind.
Does anyone use any kind of hairspray? I haven't used it in eons but think I could benefit from it on non-shampoo days when my hair is puffing up all over the place. Any recs?
I did get some of that L'Oreal Sublime stuff, just haven't used it yet.
-
Yes I can't live without my Sebastian SHAPER PLUS hairspray. The one that fights humidity while leaving your hair touchably soft.
If I am doing my hair, I ALWAYS need that hairspray, I will never use anything else...
-
Ladies, I love this thread! I'm one of those people that have always wanted to wear eyeshadow etc. but am hopeless at applying it. I always end up looking like a raccoon.
There are some great tips here and now I know where to come to ask questions!

Get Addicted to Speed, the topcoat

What kind of clear nail polish is actually worth $20? The kind created by NASA as a topcoat for fighter plans, of course.
Okay, maybe it's not aircraft paint, but Deborah Lippmann's new fast-drying lacquer topcoat, Addicted to Speed, really was created using nanotechnology...how a celebrity manicurist got her perfect hands on nanotechnology is a question for national security experts. We're just happy it works.
Super quick to dry, with UV protection to keep your color bright, Deborah's site specifically says to wear it over color only. Lucky thing she offers so many cool colors to choose from!
Our ideal summer weekend combo is Shutup and Drive/Addicted to Speed. How about you? -
I found L'oreal's Elnett in Europe and fell in love with this hairspray, but it went for like $25 or more on Ebay and you cannot buy it in the states.
they have a new professional line in the states now, textureline, but the key word is Infinium---it goes for 15 on ebay. I recently found some at TJ Maxx for $5 a can. the stuff goes on in a tiny mist, dries instantly, and leaves with a brush out. Stays all day without making your hair stiff (I have no idea why the type is now bold) sorry.
-
Thanks for the hairspray tips, ladies.
Here's my itty bitty tip for today. I discovered that on those days when my usual light lipstick doesn't do enough to give me color, I can just use a slightly darker or brighter color on the bottom lip, not both lips. This works for me because dark or bright colors overall make my small mouth look even smaller. Just doing the bottom lip doesn't seem to have as pronounced effect.
-
Dotti - a massage sounds magnificent!
Tina - I use Sebastian hairspray as well (not often, only when I put my hair up - Sebastian Shaper Mega Hold Spray - not stiff at all).
I really need to do something with my hair - but what? Wait for it to grow I guess...
Where is that Laura GTO? I miss her.

Laura is a busy bee and a busy auntie! She and hubby were in a news article for their hard work in trying to get rid of an invasive plant. Read the article here:

Tina, I mix lipstick colors too ..
Another tip I got recently was to put on lipstick and then put a lighter lip gloss just in the middle of your lips. Makes them appear plumper

Once again, I'm feeling a bit despairing over my eyes and need some more techniques for opening them up. It seems that my lashes are thinning some (I'm thinking its the Aromasin?) and my eyes have some almost bags on the top, outside edges that squish my eye into looking even smaller (do you know what I mean?). Do you think that applying a light shadow on the bone will help enlarge/widen my look?
Sigh.....I just need a full face lift, that's all. I don't get why insurance doesn't cover cosmetic surgery when it's so essential to one's mental health! Ugh!
(Sorry for whining

marin - I know exactly the part of the lid you are talking about - the top outer edge right under the brow that pushes down on the lid? Mine is beginning to do the same thing. I have deep set eyes, which makes the problem a bit worse. I would try the light shadow and see if that will bright the area up. You need to try some firming eye cream - I am telling you it works wonders!
-
Marin have you tried the pencil from benefit-- gosh whats the name of it? Marissa gave a link to it a few pages back- I think it's called the eye bright pencil?
You may want to give that a try.
Also, allergies make bags and dark circles under eyes worse, and that's what I'm struggling with. I need to stay on top of waxing my eyebrows to give my eye added definition and shape during this allergy season.
The skin around the eye is so delicate and thin, you have to be gentle when applying and removing makeup. I don't think there's a miracle cream or we'd know about it. Make sure to protect your eyes in the sun also-- super important!!
My sister uses a lot of products for her eyes-- I'll ask her what she likes best.
Here's my dilemma. I REALLY want to try a dark lip. Red is really hot this season. I know it's all about finding the right red for your skin tone.
I bought a couple to try, and I even took one picture thinking I'd post it here for your responses, but I'm too chicken. I think it looks a little bozo the clownesq.
I know I have to keep a bare face, and just go for it when it comes to the red lips... I just don't know if I can pull it off without looking like a clown, or a call girl.
-
Marin-
I know exactly what you mean by eye droop. I have the same thing going on and when I look at recent pictures of myself, it is really noticible. There is something called eyemagic that I am considering. There is a website called eyemagic.net which shows the miraculous before/after pictures. I have not ordered it yet, but if it works like the pictures show, it is just what I need. I am contemplating ordering it. I don't want to have surgery, but don't like the way the skin is "falling over my eyelids".

Have just ordered The Surgery-Free Makeover by Brandith Irwin, MD. Can't wait to read it. I have her other book and it's pretty good and very common sensical, if that's a word. It's a few years old, so this will update the product info.
Those eyelid droops are basically not going to go away without an eye lift.
However, eye gels and/or creams with peptides and other firming agents can help a bit and for several hours. My eye problem is not dark circles or bags from being tired, but those little, slipped fat pads. Uck! Tightening products do help but they don't eliminate. Surgery is the only real help for those, too. I just don't know if I'm up for more surgery, esp. when my glasses obscure the bags. Only problem is, I'm not wearing my contacts so often anymore.
Will look at the eyemagic website.
Oh, and did I mention that my lashes are shedding for the fourth time? At least this time they are going more piecemeal, not all at once. It isn't noticeable to anyone but me but I am pi$$ed. At least this looks like they are finally getting back on schedule and this may be the LAST time they do this.

Raye, I have been using the L'Oreal Sublime for a few days now and it has a pleasant smell to it, you're right. The nasty odor is still there but it's masked pretty well. It's very slooooooooow going on the color change, though, but at least I'm not yellow or orange. I was just sitting in the sun for a couple of minutes and I noticed that my legs are faintly sparkly; there must be shiny particles in that cream! I do like it better than the Nivea. Thanks for the tip.
Beth, a red mouth is really tricky. Maybe a brownish red? Come on, post a pic!
-
My girlfriend is a former AA flight attendant, she was telling me that they HAVE TO wear a dark shade of lipstick ... no light colors.
-
So I may have answered my own question, at least to an extent. This morning, I tried a technique that I used to use to give my eyes a more almond-shaped, uplifted effect and it looks pretty good! First, I did try a light shade on the outer part of each lid and then swept it slightly over the lid towards the brow bone. But the "old" trick is to use a very thin line of a pale-colored crayon liner (like Maybelline Cool Effects) under, and close to, the outer rim of the lower lids, sweeping the line up just a teensy bit beyond. The effect for me, along with the lighter shadow, the great DermaBlend concealer, and the Rimmel white liner, is amazing! And I'm only at work today! I think I'm resurrecting that trick and keeping it in my repertoire.
And here's a funny follow-up to our discussion about scents and, specifically, the Demeter line. On Jay Leno the other night, he mentioned that Demeter has released a new scent....Sushi! Do you think that's for real? If it is, that's one scent I'm steering clear of! Eeeeeeewww!
