    Ladies,

I was raised in the South and have relatives that would vote Dem. if the donkey ran! ha

I will vote for McCain. I come at this a little differently than some and really am not a one issue voter - but I will never vote for anyone that is pro choice or for government run health care.

I like George W. Bush (so shoot me!) and I do think he was the man for the job after 9/11!

I have no idea who would be a good running mate for McCain - just hope it is someone that is a true conserative.

We may get higher taxes no matter who wins --- but the Dems. have promised it!

I'm trying to fathom what McCain's new health care package is.  I guess we'll have to wait to see if someone takes it apart for us to understand what in the world he's talking about.  Elizabeth Edwards was saying it still didn't cover people with pre-existing conditions.

((((Joan)))) a woman of kinder spirit........of course being Texan we do not consider ourselves to be "southern", I think because half of the state is so close to the western half of the United States and half so close to eastern U.S......here in Texas the way we speak depends on what part of Texas you are from.......Bush definitely speaks "West Texan"......you say earl for oil.......heel for hill......anyway yea I'm a "Bushie" as well.....do I think he has made some mistakes......of course.....do I think he has pander too much to the Democrats in trying to get some things done......absolutely........do I think he has gone against his basic fiscal principles and has spent too much money......yes.....and I know the democrats will scream war money........and that is not what I'm talking about......you antiwar people and believe it or not none of us like war but this is the real world and if you think it is not absolutely necessary to have a strong defense you guys are fooling yourselves.......regardless of what we think the guys that flew in those planes had lived in U.S. for what 6 years before they carried out their plans?.....they were going to flying schools and told their instructors they just wanted to learn to fly a plane but not land it.......wth?..........I know the left wants to blame Bush for 9/11 but the plans were in place years before during Clinton and maybe even were hatched during Reagan........Clinton passed law so that the FBI and National Security Bureaus could not even communicate with each other..........so here we are......this should be a Democrat election year........we Republicans are tired.......we are a bit wounded.........we are tired of fighting the liberal media.......we are tired of trying to explain basic 101 economics......we are tired of trying to explain when life begins.........we are just tired.......I think we need to regroup.........since McCain is really not Conservative maybe Republican if he does win the election we will have to watch him like a hawk.......ok phone I will be back...........Shokk

BinVa,  I have a corn burner!!  I love it...except the dang price of corn is making it really hard to justify using the thing.  When I bought it a couple years BEFORE the corn rush...it was GREAT!  I bought the corn from a farmer down the road and save oodles of money that year.  The next year...didn't save as much.  Or as much the year after.  This past season....I think it was even in price with my natural gas furnace.

Rosemary--I think its to early to criticize or attack McCain's health plan.

It is a work in progress and still evolving--He's going to get allot of input.

I think it's more difficult to formulate a plan based on the private sector but, I think it will be more realistic and attainable.

With the mess that Medicare and especially the part D drug program is in- never-mind Social Security---It's a pipe-dream that  the Democrats even within their own party, could get the support to take on such a massive government outlay.

    ---------------------------------------------

    From The Hill via 26thdistrict.com:

or some senators, the promises made by Sens. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) and Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) outside of Washington may not match the political reality on Capitol Hill.

“We all know there is not enough money to do all this stuff,” said Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.), a Finance Committee member and an Obama supporter, referring to the presidential candidates’ healthcare plans. “What they are doing is … laying out their ambitions.”

{{{Joan}}} and {{{Shokk}}} here's a nother Texas southerner.  However, I've been in North Carolina much longer.  Talking about speaking "Texan."  I had to learn to say a few words here in the deep south.  One was organ...we said argan...another one was fork...we said fark (and that could be misunderstood if not heard correctly Laughing).  I can't think of anymore right now, but those two words stand out in my mind.

I like ole Bush too.  I think he's funny.  Did anyone see his press conference in the Rose Garden yesterday.  He was on a roll.  And he also very serious.

If you didn't see it and you want to here's the links to You Tube.  There's four parts.  He also talks about drilling in ANWR.

I would like to know what any of you girls up in Alaska feel about drilling in Anwar? I keep hearing that Alaskan's are for it, so what is the big deal if it helps us get off mideast oil. I also saw the gov. of Montana talking about using coal again since it now can be processed cleaner. We have a lot of coal in Illinois too, and the government pulled out of backing production because of environmentalists. There has to be some common sense to looking at alternatives.

I built my house with concrete walls that are super energy efficient, and my radiant heat is set up to become solar as soon as the costs of installation becomes reasonable. There needs to be more incentives to use solar so more people can afford it. I heard a guy say that in 20 years the price of solar will be so low, it will be the norm. I sure hope he is right.

By the way, my concrete walls are great in the summer. I rarely run the AC. Why they are still building homes with wood is beyond me. There is not much difference in the cost and the benefits are huge. Besides low energy bills, my house is very quiet, the bugs have nothing to eat, and it can withstand tornado force winds. I love living in this house!

Who says Republicans don't care about the environment? I had to build this myself because all the contractors, union men all, would not do it.

Yes!  Bobby Jindal Louisiana's Governor and incidentally a Rhodes scholar confirmed he is on McCain's VP list.

Yes he says he has the job he wants and he thinks his lieutenant Governor is spreading the word because being Governor of Louisiana is such a great job.

I hope he'd take it if it meant helping the party.

I would love to see that ticket.

Watch him speaking today at the National Press club (of all places)

Quite a contrast to last week!

I'm sure you will be impressed. Go to 1st hundred days mid page and click on watch:

I found an interesting link that talks about a market driven solution to the high cost of gas:  http://www.ted.com/talks/view/id/51

It is a long video, so check it out when you have some time to take it all in. Basically he talks about using modern technology to lower our consumption of gas by producing cars that use less energy, not just burn different fuels. It is an interesting concept. He explains how our capitalist market driven economy will improve by producing these new cars, trucks and planes, and essentially make the middle east obsolete. It is about time that our government does more to encourage alternative sources of energy and give incentives to businesses to implement them. I built my house to use solar energy, but since only a few people know how to install it in our area, it would cost me a fortune to put in, even though solar panels are getting cheaper and better every day.

Republicans can care about energy too! I have always been a conservationist.

Wouldn't it be great if our government actually encouraged homes and businesses to make changes that are energy efficiency more widespread instead of the democratic line of demonizing businesses and taxing them more, which actually trickles down to taxing us more in the end. Hillary's idea to tax the oil companies is asinine. What she and the others should be doing, is giving rebates to companies who implement new ideas and products.

Wind is free, the sun is free, both are clean sources of energy. Why in the world we do not use them is beyond me!! If every household got a tax credit for most of the cost of implementing these sources, we could cut the need for biofuels drastically.

    I can dream I guess. . .

I think we cross-over democrats will have plenty to celebrate this November.  I can't believe the DNC is handing the FL and MI votes to McCain, but it sure looks that way.  Ok, 48 States to go.

I was really shocked last night when the votes came in.  I couldn't believe that Obama had such an advantage over Hillary.  No one did.  And then Indiana.  Wow, after Obama conceded and Hillary made her speech (didn't get to listen..daughter called me) it was "breath holding time."

Obama lovers are Obama lovers.  I don't care what he does he'll get their vote.  And I heard that he made a comment (in his speech) that the repubs would come after him with gaffes and such.  I heard McCain's response was that Obama never did work across party lines, so what makes us think he's going to do it now.  I need to look for Obama's speech.

I do believe after last night Obama is going to be rejuvenated.  He seemed so down in the dumps.

Shirley, Speaking of sad faces, did you notice Bill. He looks like he needs a stay in the infirmary.

As for Obama. The fact is that all the skeletons in Obama's closet will not hurt him in the primaries. You are right, his supporters will not waiver no matter what he does. The dems have no choice, Hillary has even more skeletons and they know it. It will haunt him in the general, I don't care what they think. People do not want a president who associates with people who hate America, has a wife who is over the top, and a minister who is a racist, and add to the fact that Obama has no experience.

I was listening to the radio yesterday, and Michael Metcalf was really talking up the gov. of La. I think this guy might really add a lot of excitement to the McCain ticket. I want to read more about him. Does anyone have a website that does a good job with his bio?

There's no Clinton magic this time.  The numbers are the numbers.  Actually, I'd like to see the real campaign get started now.  She might keep this alive for 3 more weeks and McCain gets to save his money.  I listened to Romney this morning, the first volley was about Obama's lack of experience. One talking head said you don't need experience to be President.  Two wars ongoing, Iran giving us grief and China arming up, nah we don't want anyone with experience.

Hopefully, they'll bring out his past voting record in the State Senate, and we're off to the races.

By the way McCain will be on O'Reilly tonight.  Dick Morris has already submitted his trick questions for O'Reilly to ask.

Guess Morris needs a new target now that Hillary is on the wane.

" One talking head said you don't need experience to be President. Two wars ongoing, Iran giving us grief and China arming up, nah we don't want anyone with experience.'

This is my biggest fear, Rosemary. I have two children, mid teens. I am so torn, trying to read the tea leaves for all children soon to be draft age. Will Mr. McCain's past military experience and known tough stance be better or worse than Mr. Obama's genuine lack of any such experience? I've always thought in life, experience counts. Why then would we as a country elect a leader be so genuinely lacking in such experience.

I am frustrated with democrats. Mr. Obama is a wonderful orator, has gifts of uniting and stimulating the youth. But do these youth know what war would do to them? Is diplomacy alone realistically sufficient to avoid US involvement in:

Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, North Korea, ? China, Pakistan, Turkey, Lebonon....

Does not tough diplomacy demand experience also? To not get played like a hand of cards?

Winston Churchill was a great diplomate. He also knew: "War is hell".

I am so not at ease for our youth's future and for our country's loss respect.

May our deceased Veterans rest in true peace, and our current Veterans get true national support, not just talk.

Tender, there are no easy answers to the questions you asked.  I really believe McCain is not going to do something stupid.  I think he has high regard for these men and women serving.  And I also hope he makes sure when they get home that they get all the help they need, mentally as well as physically.

I believe most of the troops truly believe in what they are doing in Afghanistan and Iraq.  Many of re-enlisted so they can go back.  And Iran is really scaring me.

Thanks Susie, for the heads-up for the show tonight.  I've had my TV off all day.

    Tender,

My Granddaughter signed up for the National Guard.  She's been in, what do they call that in high school?, thing for years.  I'm losing my mind.  Anyway, she's all revved up to be a Guard.  Help in disasters here at home, I don't know if they send them to guard our borders, but she's willing to do all that's asked.  She's praying she won't have to go to Iraq.

If McCain is a man of his word, he says he'll take our forces out of harms way there.  I really do believe we have to give this war over to the Iraqi's to fight.  Get the Iraqi people home who are living in other countries and get their act together for themselves.  We should be a presence but not a fighting one.  We'll guard their borders to keep Iran out of trouble by not letting their war materials in.   It would be nice if we can guard our own borders but I'm asking for too much.  So we'll see if he's a man of honor and keep his word to us, and I think he is, and get our kids out of the line of fire there.

Tender, unfortunately it is not so simple about the Iraqi borders. I read an article in the Tribune yesterday about how Iran is keeping this whole thing going by training and funding terrorists and then sending them to Iraq through Syria. It said that the borders are just to vast to guard them all. Iran would like to destabilize the Iraqi government, and when the US moves out, then they could move in. The Iraqi people have finally had enough and are turning in the counterinsurgents in record numbers. We just have to keep praying they can eventually become strong enough to take care of themselves.

Unfortunately, it does not look likely that we are going to able to stop Iran without doing something. It is scarier than hell to think what might happen.

What I don't understand is how anyone thinks the dems can do any better in anything considering the mess they have gotten themselves into with their primary. Imagine the outcry about the "disinfrancized" if the Republicans were doing what the dems are doing to Fla and Mi. Imagine the outcry if McCain's minister was a racist KKK preacher. He would be toast. Yet everyone is still making excuses for Obama and if anyone criticises him, they are called racists.

Well here is my prediction: McCain picks Jindel as his VP, who charms the young Obama supporters, the Hillary crowd is so mad they stay home, and Johnny wins in another Reagan style landslide!

Hillary's crowd better not stay home.  They better be madder then hell and get out and vote for McCain.  That's the only message the DNC will hear.  They'll have an excuse for losing again this November instead of looking at what they're doing now to FL and MI, but it's the only way to get the word out to them.

I wish I had a better memory, but I don't recall a time when a candidate was asked to step down before the convention.  What the dems are doing is totally unheard of.  And what's nice about it, they're doing it to themselves creating instant republicans.
