Hey Jule, anytime I can help let me know............
Hugs
Liz

To all that have received an afghan/hugaghan - when you see the box you just get so emotional and it is as if you can feel the love that has gone into the squares and putting them together. I know, as I was lucky enough to get one too - believe me lately, I've needed the hugs and love.
Ok, which one of you is going to be brave enough to take some squares by someone who is learning but doing better. I have quite a few and need to get them on their way. Let me know and I'll try to get them in the mail this week before I leave for Va.
Brenda
-
Brenda, I think squares that look like they are done by someone just learning would be even more special - they are symbolic for perserverance!
Ok, had to check my spelling, and came across the definition - it sounds like survivors! From Dictionary.com: steady persistence in a course of action, a purpose, a state, etc., esp. in spite of difficulties, obstacles, or discouragement.
Which is not to say you are having THAT hard of a time making the squares! LOL....it doesn't sound like a compliment anymore. I'll shut up now.
-
Brenda, you can send the squares my way (or Liz, Vickie---- Do you need some squares?)..........
I am sure we will love your squares
-
Madison
I thought a couple of those might have been in your package but wasnt sure....glad they work well for you....
Liz-thank you...Im working on some yarn that someone sent me awhile back but will be looking for more when I get close to having these worked up....
You ladies ROCK!!!!!!!
-
Another Beauty Madison! And, I just saw the one you sent Liz, beautiful!
AHHH.........what's this about you going to work, Liz????
I haven't sent squares in awhile...................trying to figure a way to 'dress' them up a bit!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know you've been getting alot lately, so the stock isn't going down!
I get bored just sitting in the evenings so hope to figure something out soon!
Hugs,
Neesie

Nancy, you made me laugh! I had a purpose but it was definitely filled with
difficulties and discouragement. I took it to my Mom's the other Sunday afternoon and she looked at me and says "how on earth are you holding your crochet hook". That tell you anything.
I told her it worked for me - how did the square look. Told me - look good, stitches look good - "but I could never hold my hook that way and crochet."
It has been fun and I have truly enjoyed making them. I hope they can be useful. I love the ones that some of my sisters do that have fancy patterns. Don't think that will happen until I take a class - hopefully soon. Do you think the instructor will not like my way of holding the hook either?
Love you guys(oops gals), Brenda
-
Hope you don't mind me posting a picture here! Wasn't sure where to go with it.....................the cutie petutie baby is an added bonus..............and he is laying on my first attempt at making an afghan!!
Hugs,
Neesie
-
NEESE>your first attempt? Wow it looks great...looks more like your 30th attempt!
-
Brenda, I learned to crochet from my left handed mother who learned from her right handed mother and people don't know how I can crochet holding my hook the way I do, under the palm and not like holding a pencil. I just tell them that my German grandmother taught my mother who taught me. We all sat across from each other and did with our dominate hand what they did with their dominate hand as looking in a mirror. Though I do better with the lace work now than with the yarn and larger hook.

Sheila -I am planning on taking a class at AC Moore's in Hickory and I'm thinking I will drive the instructor nuts the way I hold my hook. In fact, I need to call today and see when the next one is - they cancelled the last one.
I see we both are "Foothill gals". Brenda
-
Brenda, I sent you a pm about my location in the Foothills region of NC. I have been crocheting since 1971 when I had spine surgery for scolosis. I had to do something to keep me busy while recouperating flat on my back for 3 months. I spoke with my mom about this afghan project and she said that she will donate yarn that she has accumulated from various projects for the squares. She is working on hand quilting now and not crocheting as much. I go back and forth between hand quilting and crocheting. It depends on what bag I grab as I am walking out the door as to what project I will be working on that day.

Hi Sheila,
Brenda/Naniam is my friend that I was telling you about who lives down the road from you!!!
I'm glad you guys finally "connected."
I don't know if I hold the hook right or wrong ... just found a way that works for me!!

What a cute dragonfly!!
Quick question: Should we wash the squares before sending them to you?
-
No need to wash the squares prior to sending them. We wash the afghans before we send them out.
Neesie - that's great! Yep I agreed to work part-time for awhile for my former bosses. One of them had a heart attack early this morning so I'm here for the day. I'll be working a bit more than part-time now I think.
Phone is ringing....... I'll be working on squares at night.
Hugs

Oh btw, I don't hold my crochet hook like a pencil either. LOL
-
I can't knit in front of my mom - she always asks what the heck I'm doing with the right needle. I have to let go of it to wrap the yarn for some reason. I've gotten to be a fairly quick knitter this way and it feels too awkward to do knit the "right" way.
My mom might be doing some squares for us as well, so that will be fun to send them in with mine. She's got mad skills as the kids say! She has made tons of sweaters over the years as well as socks and afghans. She has given everything away - I think she's only kept one sweater for herself.
Did anyone see Ace of Cakes on Food Network - they made a fantastic cake - it was a basket with yarn complete with little sweaters, scarves, etc. coming out of it for a woman's 90th birthday. The woman was so cute - she couldn't stop looking at it!
-
Thanks Jan.............Ummmmmmmmmm, talking about first attempts and 30th attempts........we are talking about the afghan and not the baby, right??!! JK!!
Just saying Hi to all our Happy Hookers this morning.............awesome work going on around here!
Hugs,
Neesie
-
Happy Hookers...now thats cute being a double meaning! I too don't hold my hook like a pencil.
-
The last time I said I was a happy hooker, my husband looked at me like I was crazy and then laughed. He told me not to use that term in mixed company. Oh-by the way, we were fishing with small children in the area.
Sheila
-
I started out holding my hook like a pencil and then switched to an overhand grip.
I've always loved the terms "happy hooker" and "stitch n' bitch."
-
My friend got her Hugagan today! She will be getting online today or possibly tomorrow, so I'll let her tell you about it. I just want to say that the pictures don't do the afghans justice - this afghan was so much more beautiful in person.
And the card that was sent with it was wonderful, too. We all teared up as it was read out loud by another co-worker. It was so beautifully written, and it meant so much to us to have this amazing woman hear those words.
I want to send my own thank you to everyone who is a part of this project. Most of you will not be able to be there to see the box being opened, so let me tell you that it's every bit as wonderful as you imagine - the afghan is a tangible thing that represents our virtual community, and to see it being wrapped around someone's shoulders is one of "those" moments where you know the love is as much for the givers as it is for the receivers. So you all should give yourselves a hug tonight....there's plenty of warm wishes to go around.
-
Nancy,
I'm glad your friend received the afghan. I have always felt that our hearts go into each afghan and we do love making them.
Hugs, Madison
-
I'm working...I'm working...its been slow going the past few days!
Madison...I will pm you later...
Jule...I got your squares and thank you! I needed them.
Off to work...then home to crochet LOL.
love all around
Vickie
-
Vickie,
thanks for letting me know...I was going to ask today if you had received them...
Take Care
Jule
-
Madison,
Just to let you know, I sent you a package today. It's coming from New Jersey. If the squares are no good please let me know. I think I'm getting better. LOL.
Thanks again for all your hard work.
Hugs, Jackie
-
Hi wackyjackie, are you a knitter or crocheter? Or even a kniftyknitter?
-
Hi Donna,
I am a crocheter. I just finished a square that I think is perfect!!! Finally. LOL. How about you? Do you knit or crochet. I don't know what a kniftyknitter is.
Hugs, Jackie
-
Oh dear, the first squares I tried by the directions and they came close to 7X9. So I tried Madison's idea of making a template and thought I really had it going on. Last night I measured the first chain against the template and it looked right. After a few rows I put it back against the template and it was way too long. Does it grow instead of shrink as you go? I am so spastic.......
Pam

OK I am still waiting to border squares, anyone need theirs bordered?.... wow there are so many new ladies ...hugs to you all... this brings so many happiness...
