AE - Good luck with the biopsy!!

Sue - glad you're down to four. I have six, but they're split up by the surgery. If the first three are bad, I might just run away after the surgeon cuts my boobs off and call it a day. LOL.

Chemo #1 tomorrow. I've started my steroids, started drinking extra water, will pick up a few OTC things tomorrrow moring before the appt. and plan on takng a box of my favorite snack, Carr's Rosemary Crackers...hm-m-m. Those things are so good, you don't need cheese on them. They can put out all the sugary treats they want at the onc's; my crackers will be my salvation!

Aw Karen , You ate the evil brussel sprouts! I'm so glad you tried them. I know sometimes if you make them from fresh ones , they may be bitter. One time I did and they were bitter , then I tried again and they turned out good. But I think green giant is the best. Aw come on , just one little taste !?!lolxxxx

Thanks so much Lisa. I got the books. And my sister just called so I have to call her back. I will talk to you ladies before I leave. Hugs and Love , Melody

It makes me wish I could be back on the job as a nurse just to sneak in and watch Sue during a medical procedure. It would be fun to see her "sense of humor" in action.Wink

AE, my prayers are also with you...anxious to hear results. My bet is that it will be good news.

Sheila, I feel left out! You won't send me a wig!!!??? Just because I still have my hair? LOL. What a wonderful thing you do. Bravo!

Hope you continue to feel better, Lisa. It sounds like you've had a rough time lately.

Congratulations on the sprouts, Karen. I like people who are open-mouthed...errrrr...open-minded and willing to try again. I'm too stubborn. Once I've made a judgement, it's hard to convince myself it's not absolute and forever. I actually love Brussels sprouts. But don't ever, ever, ever try to get a tomato aspic salad of any kind past my taste buds. No, no, no!

I'm a bundle of pain from head to toe right now, especially my right knee and left heel...so which side do I favor when I walk???

Might it have anything to do with a day at the Zoo yesterday and a day at the Seattle Center today??? Hmmmmm....beauty and the beast.

One more thing...I hope it makes you smile as much as watching it made me laugh.

This young peacock in all his finery was actively courting a mate. Poor guy didn't seem to realize that he was displaying and dancing for a crow!!! It was hysterical!

OMG, Judie!  That is a crack up!  Poor guy was just wasting his energy, wasn't he?  Too funny.

I'm guessing the sweet little guy who you referred to as the "beast" is your grandson.  What a cutie pie!!!

Yes, Karen, the "beast" is my grandson, Connor. The picture was taken at the Experience Music Project building (have you been there? It's that strange, lumpy, colorful building that you either love or hate. I love it)

Connor was on a ledge at the base of the wall. The ledge was about 1 1/2 to 2 feet wide and four feet off the ground, and he knew he wasn't supposed to be up there...thus the "look" on his face. Irresistable. I stood very close and shot tons of photos while he played. A mother would never allow such a thing. That's what grandmas are for, isn't it?

    Sheila,

I want to learn how you make a wig with yarn. I love crafts of any kind so this is really interesting to me. Are there instructions or a website so I can see what one looks like?

My son is home this week from college (I just did TEN loads of his laundry) and my daughter comes home Saturday for next week's break.

I have a 'fill' tomorrow early in the morning and as much as I am looking forward to getting the expansion done, I'm not looking forward to the discomfort. I think I'm going to tell them to just put in a little so I will be able to enjoy my kids home for the weekend.

Either it's the steroids or the two bottles of water I've drunk since dinner, but I just can't stay asleep. Yawning like crazy, but I've been awake since midnight. It didn't help that my daughter was out and didn't answer her phone until 1/2 hour after I left a message. She definitely blew curfew, so I guess she's "grounded" for the rest of Easter break. That's not going to sit well.

Anyone know if a I have little cold if they will cancel the chemo? I have a slight upper respirtory thing tonight...sniffles, a couple of sneezes. My Dad had a full blown cold all week, but I've stayed as far away as possible. Still, things get around.

Oh, yes, Nancy...steroids give you alertness whether you want it or not. I'm sorry you're awake in the wee hours. Hope you can nod off soon! I'm also sorry you are feeling a bit of a cold coming on. I have no idea if they will cancel. Fingers and toes crossed here on the left coast.

Aren't kids wonderful? Hang in there. Your daughter will still love you after she grows out of her mad over being grounded, her rebellion, and all that stuff. It's so nice to enjoy them then. But to worry you the night before your first chemo? That seems especially inconsiderate...DD deserves the grounding, IMO, and you can tell her I said so!

With that I'll toddle off to bed myself. I have toddler fatigue and I hear the little guy plans to get up in the morning...sigh...

Nancy, hope your first treatment goes smoothly and you get minimal side effects. You sound well prepared for it so that should help.

Wren - that sounds reasonable to have a small amount of fills put in so you can still enjoy your kids' visit. Hope it goes well for you.

Judie - what a cute grandson! I'll bet he loves his grandma! What a beautiful (but silly!) peacock! My neighbours had one last year and he used to spend most of his time in my garden and put on his elaborate shimmy shakes for me! (I don't look anything like a peahen!) He used to perch in a tree above my house at night and make loud whooping noises. He mysteriously disappeared - I think someone in the neighbourhood got so desparate from broken sleep that they took matters into their own hands.

Mel - have a wonderful visit with your mom. Love all your pics as usual.

Hugs to all - including Karen, Jule, Sue, Lisa (you need a rest!), Sheila and everybody else.

    Happpy Easter!

    Jane. xxxx

Let me clarify something, I do not make wigs - what I make are crocheted hats out of soft fun fir or boa eyelash yarn for the chemo patients in the area. I found the directions online when somebody mentioned wiggie's. http://www.crochetmagazine.com/free_patterns/pdfs/fp_may04_wiggie.pdf

This shows what one looks like but I make them out of what ever color yarn I can get a hold of. The ladies that are fitted for the wigs at the wig bank love them. I cannot make enough to keep them supplied. It takes me about 2 hours to make one and as I said I buy the yarn whenever it is on sale or at the 'dollar tree' or 'Big (Odd) Lots' stores.

I have modified the pattern from these directions to make a more head shaped hat (when I make it from these directions they look like a kewpie doll head). If you want my actual directions just PM me with your email and I will send you a word document with my directions.

I have two of these "wiggies", Sheila.  A lady made them to donate to the gift shop at my cancer center.  My son LOVES them.  They really are so cute and fuzzy!

After I found the pattern 2 yrs ago and started making them, my mom said that she would have worn one while she was on chemo. She got the wig but hated it - hot and heavy. She wore mainly baseball caps and fleece knit hats. The ladies in the support group love them also and have asked me if I could teach them how to make them. I am working on that suggestion.
