Jan - got your box today! I love your squares. I'm "slowly" working on everything. I'll be starting another afghan as well as working on the afghan for the Relay For Life. It hasn't been made and I know someone who has an opening bid of $75! Can't wait to get it done and displayed........ Thanks to everyone for allowing me to use your squares for this project.

Dear Vickie and Ladies of the Community Afghan,

Thank you so much for the beautiful afghan that I received.  I had seen this thread when I scanned through the active conversations.  I thought that it was a wonderful idea, but I never expected to receive one.  I can't wait to show it to my daughters on their next break from VA Tech.

I can't express how much this means to me.  I feel overwhelmed when I think of the love and effort that went into every stitch and to realize that you did this for me.

The last couple of years have been very hard.  There have been many acts of kindness that have made this journey easier to bear.  This is certainly one that stands out.  I know that if at any time I start to feel a little down, I only have to look at this beautiful afghan to pick up my spirits.

You and the other ladies on this board have been so supportive and also a tremendous source of information.

    Thank you so much,

    Mike

    Hi B., Vickie and Jule!

    B. - I do love it and what it stands for.  Vickie posted several pictures of it on page 83, March 10, 9:01 PM.  It is even more beautiful than the pictures.

Vickie - Thank you so much.  I'm sorry that it took a couple of days to thank you all.  I've been a little under the weather, had some month-end updates to do and also had a project for one of my daughters that required immediate attention.  She is being initiated into a sorority and they needed a letter and some special photos to be shared at her induction ceremony.

Jule - I will definitely enjoy this.  It brings a smile every time I think about it.

I feel so honored to have been selected to receive a hugaghan.  All of you are so kind and supportive.  You ladies make such a difference in the lives of so many people.

Thank you all so much for everything that you do,

    Mike

    Madison,

    Thank you!

I really appreciate your support.  No one should have to fight this battle alone.

I occasionally have a down day, but the incredible support of friends and family make it much easier to maintain a positive attitude.  It helps me to realize how much I have to be grateful for.

    Thanks again,

    Mike

    Mike,

Glad you received a hugaghan. It has to be a special emotion to receive one and know that love and compassion went into it.

I don't knit or crochet, just thankful that I am able to contribute in other ways. It warms one heart.

    Blessings

    Doris

    Liz, Doris, Laura & Jan,

Thank you so much for you support.  My daughters will be home from college for Easter and I can't wait to show them the hugaghan!

I know that they worry about me and this beautiful reminder of love, compassion and support will be a source of comfort to them, just as it is to me.

Unfortunately, they have learned too early in life that life isn't always fair.  However, they have also learned that there are many caring and compassionate people who give unconditional love and support to those in need.  They have discovered, first hand, how important that support is to those who face some of life's overwhelming challenges.  I know that they will carry this knowledge with them throughout their lives and will share their support to others in need.

I know that future recipients will feel as special as I did when I received my hugaghan.  Thank you all for making these beautiful reminders that none of us is in this fight alone.

    Gratefully,

    Mike

I just love thepictures. The Hugafghans are so colorful and beautiful. It is such a good project and I am enjoying making my squares. It has actually encouraged me to make an afghan for my new nephew. I also have made a scarf but the dogs grabbed it and played in the yard with it. My sister even made 2 squares for me but I think one is over a foot long! YIKES.. I have started adding the double crochet of black around the squares. Double crochet..I put 3 in the corner or do I need 5? I am using plain sports yarn for this and hope this is correct.

My knitting store, Knitting Up a Storm is so special. When I buy yarn for this project , She gives me balls of yarn also. She said when I run out come back for more. I am sure there are many who contribute indirectly. This makes me smile.

Jacqui, The dog image made me laugh. Laughing

Not that working hard on something and then having your puppies run off with it is funny, but I have a dog and can just picture him running across our yard with one of my crocheted scarves.  His mischievous nature both drives me crazy and makes me laugh.

Regarding the black border, I just double crocheted in the corner until the corner looked well covered.  I'm sure 3 - 4 double crochets should cover it.

Who made that beautiful pink square with the popcorn heart?!  I love it!!  Whoever crafted that little beauty...wanna share the pattern?  Wink

I think the pink heart square is too cute!!  The pink fuzzy is nice - I'd love to make an afghan all in fuzzy squares.  And those shades of blue are very striking!

Jacqui, I once made an afghan for my dad and he kept it in the trunk of his car for "emergencies."  Ow, that hurt!  I think I'd rather have the dogs play with it.  LOL!!!

I found the website to your store, so I'd like to get some yarn from them because they are so nice to you!  I believe in supporting local places, even if it isn't "my" local.  https://knittingupastormmb.com/store/

I have to tell you how thrilled I am to see my Knit shop mentioned and a link to her business. Being an independent business woman (restaurant) I love to see support when possible for us. Thank you so much. Diane is the owner and she is such a wonderful person. She gave me 13 balls the first time and 6 more after I mailed my first batch. These are wonderful fun yarns.

Now, about my sister's dogs. We had run out to see her new house and the dogs decided to explore my knitting bag. Two boxers and a Rotweiller had it in the back yard as my BIL was cutting grass. Actually talented dogs, no stitch off the needle, I had to unravel the balls of yarn (I was knitting with ribbon and eyelash..Yikes) Only problem was the chewed up needle tips which I sanded enough to finish the project. LOL I make a square between each project. Next night at my other sisters, I started another eyelash and ribbon scarf. Her dog jumped on the sofa and separated my yarn and tore that one up. So, now I don't knit delicate threads around doggies..

Jacqui...this project helped me get back into crocheting. I hadn't realized it been so many years since I had crocheted anything. What is fun about this is you can experiment with different designs/patterns while making these squares/rectangles. I got to looking at some old paper photos and saw some of the afghans I had made years ago and had completely forgotten I had done them. I ended up making two afghans for xmas for my daughter and grandaughter who hinted they wanted one after seeing my rectangles. One of those afghans kept me busy and warm when we were out of power from the ice storm in December.

      Funny story about your dogs!

Madison made the pink puff heart and the fuzzy square may be one I made. They had the fuzzy yarns on clearance here when I started this project so picked up a few to see what it was like working with those.

OMG, Madison -- that is so gorgeous!

I think I see knitted "shadow triangles" -- hot pink, top row, second from right!  I found that pattern on this thread or the patterns thread and have been making a few of those, too!  Coming soon...
