9 Comments7 hours ago Well I finally found enough time on the computer to locate the afghan ladies (I'm good at getting side-tracked on all the conversations and then a child has to kick me off for "homework"). I received one too a few weeks ago... it's across my lap as I type... It fills me with so much hope and strength... each of the squares telling me "you can do it too!" and "we're with you!"
It is the most awesome gift. Thank you all so much!

The dragonfly touched my heart as soon as I saw it. Long before I read it was from CY's aunt. These are all just so beautiful.

Hi Cathy (thomcat) nice too see you. Don't know if you remember me. We met at the Moffitt BC convention in Tampa. Welcome to the afghan thread. This is just such a great project to be involved with. It gives me joy with each square I make and with every picture I see. Madison, Vickie, and Liz are incredible at keeping all of this organized. Hope you are doing well.

Hi Sue:
I do remember you!!! I'm so glad I found this thread and I'm anxious to get started. I'm doing OK, how about you?
Cathy

Yay - so many new girls here! It's so much fun and so rewarding!

(((Ladies)))
My friend that you sent the afghan to keeps a journal on caringbridge.org for all of her friends to keep updated on her progress...yesterday she posted a picture of the afghan and wrote this about it...
"I have been truly overwhemed by all of the support and gifts I have received. The gifts were totally unexpected. I'd like to tell you about the afgan that is featured in the photo.
This was given to me by a friend of mine who is also a breast cancer survivor. During her journey, she became actively involved with the breastcancer.org web site offering support to newly diagnosed people as well as those going through treatment and beyond.
Breast cancer survivors crochet squares, forward them to a person who crochets them into an afgan. Then they are sent to support newly diagnosed people. My friend Peggy submitted my name and within no time at all, she was delivering the "Hugagan" that came all the way from Baton Rouge, Louisianna. I was stunned. What a thoughtful gift."
So you see - you touch many lives. I am so thankful that through you I was able to do this.
My belief is that everything you do comes back to you threefold...you are the best and YOU ROCK....
xoxo

Sige,
Thank you for posting this response from your friend.
I can't help but laugh at all the kitty cats. There are a couple that look like my cat and for a second I wondered if I mailed the cat in the box with the afghan
.
-
Laughing with Madison over the cat in the box!!
Thanks Sige for sharing the post with us!
Hugs,
Neesie

Hi everybody:
I started making some squares last night and want to make sure I understand what size to make. Do I need to make them 7x9 and then send them off so you guys can add the black border or do I need to do the border?
Cathy
-
I also have some questions about the borders. I have black yarn from previous projects and want to know what stitch and how many rows. Also who to send them to. I have 3 ready now but don't know how many I can do. After doing these 3 I remember why I like doing the lace (snowflakes & angels) better than the yarn - my hands hurt working with the heavier thread/yarns.
Sheila
-
Madison,
Remind me again ... are the borders a double crochet?
I like to border my own so they are nice and tidy when
I send them out. This time I don't have any special theme,
just mishmash of colors!!
love to all the new gals!!!
BGirl
-
The borders are ONE double crochet stitch in black yarn around the entire square.
The squares are 7x9.
I'll try to take a close-up picture of a bordered square this evening.....and post it............
be back later...........Madison

Oh my talented friends...........the newbies might not know that I have 10 thumbs and two left hands.............but the 'oldies' will remember that I was attempting to make an afghan for my new grandson......................The first one turned out so wierd that it could be worn as a thick scarf!!!!!!!!!! The second one hasn't decided what it wants to be yet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When you're ready for a laugh..........I'll post a pic!!!!
In the mean time.........welcome to all, this project is skyrocketing!!!!
Hugs,
Neesie

Madison that weaved one is beautiful...do you have the instructions how to do that?
-
Jan,
PS123 made that square. It sure is a beauty.
-
Wow this thread sure has gotten busy! I just love it!
Cathy - So glad you are doing well. I'm doing ok - just chugging along and trying to keep life as normal and Drs as far away as possible
. Actually feel well enough that I'm planning on doing the Komen 3 day in Tampa in Oct. Want to come back to Tampa and go walking?
Sure am glad to hear that some people like to do the boardering. As much as I love making squares I dislike putting on the border. Go figure.
Hugs to all,
Sue

LIZ>I mailed another box yesterday but it was late in the afternoon so I don't know if it will take an extra day to get to you or what.
Those of you that have Hobby Lobby's nearby...I noticed yesterday when I went to two of them that they seem to be pushing the TLC yarn off their shelves completely and putting it all on the clearance racks. Might want to check yours to see if you can get some nice yarn for around $2.21 regularly $3.69 here. It could be a local thing but just in case it's happening in all their stores its worth checking out. I'm debating on checking another Hobby Lobby in town today while the choice of colors is available! Wild/Jan

I'll start bordering my squares - I think Madison had said a size H hook for the border? Now I wish I did crochet instead of knit - I'll bet it's more difficult to get the border even! Ah, another challenge!
Liz, I sent some squares out last week, but due to chemobrain I can't remember what day it was. I'd look for my receipt, but... I'd just end up getting distracted by whatever else I came across in the search...LOL
Neesie, I love what you said about the afghan "The second one hasn't decided what it wants to be yet!" I have an afghan started and the yarn decided it didn't want to be in the pattern I was using. Yes, these things do talk to us, don't they?
-
Sue - Keep me posted on the race in Oct - I may drive up and walk with you. I did the local race today and it was wonderful. We had about 6000 participants and raised about $750,000!!!
Now, I want to get down to knitting and crocheting!
Take care everyone!
Cathy
-
that basket weave is amazing!
my friend mari has given me some more "textured" knitted squares and i will send them along in my next box
-
hmmm...popping in to see if the afghan I sent last week has been acknowledged as it was supposed to have been delivered. Guess I'll have to wait a bit longer just hoping the new recipient isn't sick.
Working on a new one!
You are all so very awesome...
Do we have a list of all the names of our wonderful group here...I have one but its not updated since...hmmm...I think December!
You are all awesome!
Love and hugs
Vickie

Vickie, I don't have an updated list of our group..........

Hi Ladies,
I'm almost ready to mail some squares out, if someone wants to PM an address to send them to.
