    Masgouf

is a traditional Iraqi dish, it is an open cut fish grilled and spiced with salt, pepper and tamarind. While keeping the skin on, it is then brushed with olive oil.

Traditional garnishes for masgouf include chopped onions and tomatoes, as well as the clay-oven flatbreads common to Iraq and much of the Middle East.

After marinating the fish, it is then placed on wooden sticks and then barbecued on a large flame. After the fish is well cooked and crispy, it is often sprinkled with the juice of a lemon, ready to be served.

Like many other Iraqi dishes it is usually served with rice, along with salad and  mango sliced pickles.(AMBA)

Lisa, I hope you are somewhere warm and safe.  I couln't go out in such weather... I don't drive in snow very often and I wouldn't make it. You and I have similar food tastes--and really I am a fashion lover too but I don't work full time so I don't need many dressier clothes, and, well you know the kinds of things teachers wear... functional, easy to wash, kid friendly, sensible shoes... I have a lot of that... LOL, but my heart would love it if I could wear trendier stuff and tolerate heels, etc...  My most recent shoe purchase is another pair of Keds sneakers in a mulitcolor spring patchwork, slip on--so I can wear them with capris and basic polo type shirts--kinda preppy, but very teacherish. I also share your love of veggies... I LOVE to roast veggies in the oven or grill them... It rocks my world (in a good way) if someone makes me a bunch of veggies or a heavenly salad... I love cooked veggies... and yummy brussel sprouts!

I haven't been feeling very well the last few days -- so I am eating a lot of crackers... blech... I am not sure if I have a virus or if it's side effects of the pain meds and muscle relaxers I take after fills or just a lack of good sleep... I get dizzy, etc... and am starting to think perhaps just hypoglycemia, cuz I feel better when I eat  a bit... and then feel sick again...

I'm very close to being done with fills. I have 670cc in each side now and we will stop around 800. The last fill made my left armpit (where the lymph node was removed) hurt so bad that not even pain meds helped. I was up for two nights with constant shooting pain down my left arm...and I could not find a position to get comfortable. I am not complaining though, because it did get better and I'm thankful that I can even do reconstruction.

Hope you all have a great weekend. I hope to go out to lunch or something with hubs...

Good morning lovely ladies!!!  Lisa, I'm so glad you made it to work in one piece.  I'm going to be sitting on pins and needles until I know you made it back home safely this evening.

Ulla, the carp you ate in Iraq must be totally different than the kind we have here in the States.  Carp is NASTY here.  They're so ugly, you wouldn't even want to eat them.  I love cod though.  And halibut is quite nice.  I love the stronger tasting fish as well, but the mild, white fish is my favorite.  My dad used to be an avid fisherman.  His hands are so crippled from arthritis now, that he can't fish anymore.  My brother owns property on the Cowlitz river, so we eat a lot of steelhead.  It's my daughter's favorite.  I think it's just a very large trout.  Very tasty.

Sue, you'll definitely have to take a pic of your pie to post.  It makes my mouth water just thinking about it.  I haven't been doing very well with cutting out sweets from my diet.  Sigh............

    Hugs,

    Karen

I haven't been very successful so far, Ulla.  The funny thing is that I didn't really like sweets so much before I had chemo.  The steroids made me crave it, and now I want it all the time.  Just as you mentioned a few days ago, the cancer feeds off of the sugar and grows more rapidly.  I've given up my wine, and now chocolate too.  It's all very sad isn't it?  Gosh I hate bootface!!!!!!!!  I'll be very angry if I make all these sacrifices and then it ends up coming back!!

    Hugs,

    Karen

Oh, I forgot to apologize for making you feel badly about liking carp.  I'm sure the carp you've eaten is much different than the ugly carp we have here.

    Karen

dear karen ,,u dont need to appologize honey..i am just very curiouse about the carp that u have..wat do u mean saying it is nasty??which ppl used to eat it..??i didnt understand wat mel mentioned,,

the carps in baghdad r farms fish..not from the river really,,i dont know how to say it in english.goddddddddd this is really difficuilt...

dear karen try the dates with walnuts and sesem seeds ,,let it in a pan on low heat till it became so tender ,remove it fom heat and make it as small cockies,,,so yummyyyyyy instead of chocklates,,

I'll have to try that, Ulla.  Thank you for the suggestion.  I do like dates, and it sounds like they sweeten as well as cane sugar.

When Mel said that carps are bottom feeders, she meant that they swim near the floor of the body of water they're in.  Thus, they eat all the yucky stuff that's down there.  If the carp in Baghdad are farm-raised, then they probably are fed a better diet.  I'm just guessing that this is why they look and taste nicer.

    Hugs,

    Karen

Oh Ulla honey , sorry we upset you about the carp. Believe me , our carp here is totally different than yours. If you tasted ours , you would say , NO Way that is carp. The way you described it , is not the way this tastes. Just because something has the same name , doesn't mean its the same! Oh sesame and dates sound wonderful.

Oh Sue , I wish that was my o/h!lol No just a pic off the net.So your hubby is making lasagne.Yumm me! What time should we all be over? And how is the pie? I'm sure its scrumptious.

Well , I ventured out to the store. Got stuck in the driveway , and God sent me two angels that shoveled and plowed me out. I made them take some money. They really were a Godsend. There was no way I could have shoveled that all out. I did OK until I had to stop at the bottom of the drive. Of course it was about two feet deep from where they plowed the street. But I made it to the store and Lilly has her food.

Wren , I hope you're feel better soon. It sounds like it could be the meds making you dizzy. Muscle relaxers make me feel very woosie. Wow , soon you will have your implants. Are you getting saline or silicone? Good luck to you.xxxxx

Ulla , Mostly I suffer hot flashes. That seems to be the main SE and bone/joint pain. They can give you effexor for the hotflashes. And some ladies don't have any SEs. It is very important to take though if you are ER+.xxxx

Sue the pie is gone already?! That's some serious sweet tooth you have, girl.

Awful rainy weather here today, so I did something constructive...my income taxes. YEAH! THEY'RE DONE!  I can be such a procrastinator, one year I did not file...ooo, bad me...until I got all scared and filed them a month late.

My daughter is going/not going to her junior ball tonight. She's skipping the dance at the school because she says it's "lame."  They set up tables in the main lobby which is kind of triangular shaped and have a dance area on a level that's about 1/2 a flight above that. (We always had ours in the gym) But she wanted to go to the "after ball" parties so she still needed to get something to wear. I don't know, looks like her regular everyday stuff to me.

They've rented a bus and are going into the city to one of the rent-a-yachts for an late night cruise around Manhattan. I hope the weather stops pouring or they will just be looking out at mist and fog. Eh, well, at least if things start flooding, they'll be in the best position of all of us.
