Okay Ladies, I DID IT !!!! I taught myself to crochet, and I working on my sixth square. I'll be looking for an address to mail them soon. It's such a good feeling to be a part of this.
-
Vickie... I sent you a few of my squares yesterday. Please don't let anyone else know they are mine....LOL I thought I was doing so good, following directions, etc. They all seem to be different sizes except for the single and double crochet. Guess that is what I will have to stick to. Hoping you can stretch or fix to be able to use my squares. I love my hugaghan so much I just want to be a part! I may need to be one who just buys yarn and sends it elsewhere!

Thank you all soooooo much. You put a song in my heart!!!
I am spending the afternoon working on a new afghan.

CY's Aunt Louise mailed me some more squares last week.
She said:
"Our beautiful CY lost her battle and now she is at peace. My prayers are still with all of her sisters in the battle.
Love, Aunt Louise"
If anyone would like CY's Aunt Louise's address (to send her a note), PM me. I always send her pictures of the afghans made with her squares because she doesn't go on the internet.
-
Hi all!
Madison.....that is so sweet of "Aunt Louise!" Yes, I'd like to send her a note.
Barb..........you taught yourself to crochet................I'm so jealous.
I look at all the beautiful squares in all of the afghans............and then go back to the only 2 patterns I know!!!!!
Pam.........good for you.......I'll be looking for your squares!
Hugs,
Neesie

Hi Girls -
I'm back from Mexico...I crocheted 9 squares while I was there! I was so happy...my hook didn't get confiscated. I crocheted at the beach, pool, on the plane and in our room. Lots of people who saw me crocheting asked what I was making - I said: "a bikini"! LOL They all laughed.
Who needs squares?

7 Comments45 minutes ago Well, I finally stumbled around long enough I found my way to the boards (I AM there aren't I???? LOL)
I was dumbstruck when I received my gorgeous afghan! My dh was even teary-eyed by the sentiments that accompanied it! YOU people are AWESOME. I love the blanket & every time I get my chemo-fever-side-effect-that-isn't-a-side-effect I take comfort in all the hugs that blanket gives. I feel so loved, so cared for & so humbled by your mutual effort of love. I wish EVERYONE could know this feeling.
THANK YOU bc sisters---you lift me up!
Hugs,
Saint

I have yet another newbie question - patterns with a "give" such as a ribbed knit - can those be used, or do they stretch too much? I'm hoping that the surrounding squares will hold them just fine, because I like the textures you can get with this kind of pattern. If not, I'll change the pattern I'm using.
Thanks for the input again!
-
You can use patterns with "give"...they work as well as the others. We have gotten really good at using all kinds of squares and they are all simply wonderful.
I have one almost done...really been on a crocheting roll lately and enjoying every minute of it. I am hoping for a snow day tomorrow LOL.
Hugs to all...it couldn't be done without you...and a special hug to Liz...hope you're healing and feeling ok giggle sister! Love ya.

Vickie, Liz,
Do you need squares? I received some squares last week.
Laura has some ready to be mailed.
Hugs, Madison
-
Saint........so happy that you have received your hugaghan! Enjoy!
Nancy...........trust me.....what Vickie said is true! They (I don't know how!) can make all of the squares (or triangles, circles, etc.) look good when they put them together!!
Hugs,
Neesie

hi barb welcome to the hugaghan gang .. nice to meet you
madison and liz my squares should be there middle of this week and i sent vickie some recently ... i'm caught up !!!! yeeehaw !!
-
OK I have some squares to mail..PM me and tell me where. This is so much fun! I love the comments from the recipients..Yes you are wrapped in love. And know when you wrap up in these squares how much you give to someone like me who enjoys getting my hands busy with yarn again. I just had 2 long flights and so happy to have something to do..
-
Hi all,
You have inspired me to pick up knitting again after about 20 years off!
I have another question about patterns with "give" -- do I measure the square as it lies (8 inches), or stretch it out to measure (easily 9 inches)?
Thanks Vickie, Liz and Madison...
all the afghans look gorgeous!
-
Ann, that's a good question. I think the test of any square is "how will it hold up". If it is stretched, is it still stable? It is always easier (for me) to work in a square that is a little too large, than one too small.
Hugs, Madison -
Thanks Madison -- I think it wants to "spring back" to 8 inches, so I'll knit a little more!
Best,
Ann

Welcome to the new girls and of course... WELCOME to the latest recipients! We love you and think of you often and wish you the very best!
JMO - I think it's awesome that you girls are questioning the sizes of squares, etc...true indication of how devoted your participation truly is.
-
Laura, I read your comment about knitting in Mexico. I just got back from Vegas and knitted 4 squares..LOL Sure helps on a long plane ride and by the pool..Can't drink or gamble when hands are busy..
-
It' s addicting !!! I taught myself to crochet, and I can't stop !!!!
I love being able to help---I'm almost ready to send off some squares !! -
Ladies...I saw the hugaghan that you sent to my friend today - oh my god it is amazing!! The pictures of these do not do them justice!! My friend was overwhelmed by the gift and was actually speechless.
I just wanted to let you know how awesome I think you guys are - you are doing such a wonderful thing for women.
Thank you again from the bottom of my heart - you're the best.

Sige, thank you for letting us know the afghan had been delivered. I was going to send you a PM tonight asking to check on the delivery.
Please give your friend many hugs from us.
-
This project is made possible by all of YOU!!!! I love all the different squares, knit, crochet, knifty knitter...........the different colors.......the different textures.
I have started on another afghan.........so keep sending name suggestings. I know Liz and Vickie have been working on new afghans.
Hugs to all, Madison

I'm back up and running. Took the week off to recover from the surgery and it drove me nuts not to be able to crochet! I've received squares this week and will be bordering them.
Hey Peggy! Glad to know she received it.
I agree with Madison, it's you guys that make all this possible. Thanks!
-
I am going to see if someone can teach me how to crochet (I've looked at the instruction link - I think I need IRL lessons). Then I will jump on this bandwagon and send some squares!!
