-
i am now 33 was dxed at 31 stage 2b with lymph nodes. Had lumpectomy, 4 ac and 4 taxol, surgery, then 6 carbo/gemzar with 33 rads. Was taking arminidex adn lupron but was redxed 3 months ago with stage 4 bone mets. I am currently undergoing chemo (abraxene/advastin) and on zometa a zoladex.
I always say live for today because you never know what tomorrow brings. Lets all keep our head held up high in this fight again the cancer war.
Take care and god bless everyone. -
I was 33, diagnosed Stage 2B w/1pos. node of 6 in 1/03 after finding a lump. I found it after having my 2nd daughter. She was only 4mths. and my other daughter was a few mths. past 2yrs.old. I had a mast., 4AC, 35 radiation, proph. mast., lat flap reconstruction in '04.
In 1/06 had recurrance to liver, collapsed 2 vertebra middle back, tumors on 2lower vertebra, had port put in 3/06, had 10 radiation to back and killed those buggers!!!!! Started chemo 3/06-present. Have been in clinical remission for 10mths. Yippee!!!! Also, had hysterectomy, tubes & ovaries removed in 11/06 as a preventative because I am strong estro.+, her2+.
Doing great and other than some aches from my back, you would never be able to tell I'm Stage IV!!!!

I was diagnosed young 38...but had lump since 35 or 36.
Lump was 6 cm/multiple tumors, 5+ nodes of 15

Now I'm an old 42...it gets so much better and I even forget most of the time.

I was diagnosed last year when I was 29, however, I had been trying to get doctors to listen to me since 2004 about my lump. Check out my blog below!

My sister is 45 and has inflammatory breast cancer with lymph node involvement. She is currently flying from Atlanta to MD Anderson due to the fact that her chemo treatment was unresponsive at Emmory she is just one treatment into FEC. The cancer has spread to her lymph nodes since she was first DX's 5 months ago. I am so afraid for her. Can anyone advise on the FEC treatment and thoughts regarding same. Also looking for any advise on ports vs. pic lines and travel, hotel and medication assistance.
Audrey -
Audrey, sorry to hear about your sister. MD Anderson is an excellent cancer center. I would think a staff member there should be able to help with travel/hotel recommendations, etc.
Most bc chemo patients get a port as oppossed to a pic line. Does she not have anything in place for IV access yet?
One treatment into FEC is pretty early to tell if it's working or not, although if the lymph node spread occured while during the few weeks of the first chemo cycle, that's probably enough reason to switch regimes early. IBC is notoriously aggressive, but there is a laundry list of chemos to try, and MD Anderson should be able to come up with a good plan of action.
Is your sister HER+? If she is, there is an excellent website for you to check out, and it also has a section for inflammatory bc--it's www.her2support.org.

I'm 34, was 32 at dx - Nov. '05, stage 3A, 9/12 +nodes. Was dx 5 mos after losing twins @ 18 wks. Did 4 AC, 4 Taxotere, 37 Rads. July '06 was last chemo, July '07 still clear - no cancer (praise God!). Found out 1 week later I'm expecting. I'm now 14 weeks and all is well. I go back to the doctor next week. I do have some knots on the opposite side of where the cancer was, in my abdomen area, but I'm hoping and praying it's nothing. Have a 6 year old and a wonderful husband. There is HOPE! I refuse to give up or to give in!!! EVER!
Sending warm wishes and hugs to all of you!

Hi Michelle,
I was told that my cancer was there for years before I found it. I was 36 when I was told it was breast cancer. 13 nodes postived and er/pr postive. I just found out I have brain lesions that they feel were already there from the first cancer. The good news it's lesions not tumors.
Good luck,
Blessings,
Michele

Hi--I have a question about my mother-in-law who is now on week 4 of radiation after having surgery in December for IBC. Her Dr. is saying she has to have rads for 6-7 weeks, even though her tests came back "cancer-free". Why this time frame and why would they even do radiation if there's no cancer? She only got one breast removed--is the recurrance rate of IBC greater than other BC's? Her Dr. wouldn't take the other breast--not sure why but she is scared about it coming back from other stories she's heard. Once rads are done, what will her "treatment" be for the future? Thanks
-
Thanks for sharing your story. I'm 36 and just finished radiation, surgery (had double mastectomy) and chemo. I'm on tamoxifin now. I worry about the future.

Tess! our stories seem so similar

Diagnoised at 25 with Stage 2 IDC currently being tested to see if it has returned.

I was diagnosed 10/31/06 at the age of 36. My oncologist thinks that the cancer was probably there for 5 years, but I have heard that it can be there for 8-10 years before being detectable (so I may have been in my mid-20s when it started to grow)??! Yikes!
-
Kim I wouldn't totally believe that-- cancers that are slow growing- like grade 1 cancers that are found in patients that are post menopausal are usually there for several years...
My oncologist thinks that my tumor grew over a period of a few months.
I was always very in touch with my body. I was at the GYN for a checkup 6 weeks before I felt the lump, and had a breast exam and all was fine.
The second I felt the lump in the shower, I knew I hadn't felt it the day before--by the time they did surgery about a month later, the lump was 1.8 cm, and growing super fast- grade 3, and her2pos, and at age 26, I doubt it was there for several years.
I think for those of us that are younger, every week and month counts-- and I hate when docs still think that all cancers were there for at least 5-8 years.
