Hi, Sharon!
Glad to hear you're done with your chemo. My onc (a survivor herself) had Herceptin and taxol, too. She said it was a bit easier than A/C...
How are you feeling, Trumpet?!?
-
Felicia - Doing OK, a bit sore and bruised, can't bend my arm all the way, and can't take a shower for 2 days. But, I can't complain!! Just one more thing down!!
-
Hey Sharon,
How are you feeling? I pray all goes well for you through this time and it goes quick! You are in my prayers .
Hey Trumpet,
Hope all went well with your port. Where did you have it put in? Chest wall or arm? I am so happy to have my port. I have no veins. I have had it over 2 years. Hope all is well with you. You are in my prayers.
Hey Yogi,
I hope you are feeling well, You are in my prayers. Let us know how everything is going and how the treatments go. It will be fine. I really feel having a port was a great decision. Praying for you.
Hey Trish,
Good luck at work! You are blessed with a great hubby! Were you looking forward to going back? May God give you strength. Praying for you sister.
Hey Felicia,
How are you and your family? Hope all is well. Hope your computers are up and running smoothly. You are always in my prayers.

Hey Benita - The port process went very smooth! They put it in my arm; I inquired about the chest and was told it is 'institutional' as to where they put it (varies hospital to hospital). The soreness is getting better this morning!! Wow, two years? Have you had any problem with getting clogged? Do you have to have it flushed often? Any concerns about it being "consumed" by the body?
Have a great day everyone!!
-
Hi Felicia and Benita- It's day eight and I'm stil tired all the time. I'm not sure if I'm ready for the next 12 weeks of taxol and herceptin. I've heard that the ses aren't as bad as with a/c, so I hope I do better with the body aches and pain. I've had a little new hair growth on the noggin'. I have a mix of black and gray. I can't wait to see what texture it wil be. I just hope that the taxol doesn't take it back out.
I hope everyone has a great weekend.
-
Hey Felicia, I'm going to the doctor this wed. I will probably get my port this week because my onc. wants to start chemo next week. I will be doing 4 doses of A/C 12 wks of taxol (6 wks rads when I'm done with that) 52 wks Herceptin. Whew!!! Like I said I'm ready for battle. How are you doing?
Hey Sharon, how are you? Your dx is similar to mine. Any advice?
Hey Benita, thanks for your prayers. I will also be praying for all of my sister soldiers in battle.
-
Good morning,
Trumpet,
I am so happy it went well for you. I get my port flushed every 8 weeks. I have never had a major problem with it. Never moved or clogged. I have to keep it 1 more year and if I am still NED , God willing, I will have it removed. I know a man that gets chemo where I go the the onco who has had his port for 15 years. Take care of it with flushes and it will be fine.
Sharon,
I hope you do well. I am so praying for you. I pray for no aches and pain for you. I know how that is. Stay strong my sister. I hope the next 12 weeks go by quick and easy.
Yogi,
Hope all goes well with your port. I'll be thinking about you next week when you start treatments. Pray all goes as best as possible.
Have a blessed weekend to everyone.
Benita

This sisterhood is amazing - as are all of you incredible ladies

Good Afternoon My Sisters! Just a quick update... I had my first tx of TC yesterday (2-25) and it went very smooth!! No reactions and felt fairly decent on the long ride home. I did start to get a mild headache in the back of my head early evening and a feeling of my stomach being bloated. I slept through the night and awoke to start my 2-day cycle of anti-nausea meds. I hope they will keep it at bay! I could not taste anything during lunch a moment ago; I was not looking forward to that so soon!
Just a thought, how can we reach out to more Sisters in the fight? It seems that many of the other conversation topics have continued and continual dialog between people on a daily basis. Or am I not looking in the right places on this website? Let me know! Thanks and have a Blessed day!!
-
Trumpet, I'm glad your chemo went well. One down...
I think we may not get as much traffic as some of the other threads because of location. We're pretty far down on the list of thread topics, and someone new who might have dx, surgery, radiation, chemo or reconstruction issues might look there first. I'm not quite sure how to change that, though...
But look how many women have found us! We also have a lot of conversations in the thread as well...
-
Hey Trumpet,
I am so glad things went well for you,I remember those days of no taste buds....I still can not eat certain foods..I used to love spicy foods, now they burn my sensitive tongue
. May God continue to be with you. Keep us updated.
Thinking of you during this time .....

Hello ladies, glad to hear everyone is doing well as can be expected. I'm finally back to normal though I still tend to get tired easily. I've decided to start losing some of this weight that I've put on and start excercising again. I let myself go and ate whatever I wanted mostly fast food. I had gotten to the point that I didn't care how I looked out in public anymore. My daughters had to sit me down and tell me that I needed to get a "grip" and start taking better care of myself. What a wake up call! I was power walking 5 miles a day before my surgeries and then stopped. I've put on abut 30 pounds since starting chemo. I need to get this weight off of me before I do more damage than good! Has anyone else gained weight while on chemo?
Yogi- I'm glad to hear that you are getting the port. It is so much easier than having the nurses searching for a vein. My first two txs of A/C went rather well, no real neasea. My third tx took me for a loop though. The heartburn almost killed me. My onc prescribed meds and that took care of that. I lost all my hair by the second tx and cut the rest off with clippers. Even that wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Both my girls, 16/17 thought I was cute...(whatever)! My last tx wasn't that bad either. I was more nauseated the firt two days, but after that I was fine except for being tired all the time. Infusion was about two hours. Toward the end of each infusion my nose kind of burned a little. I was told that that sometimes happens. Nothing I couldn't handle though. Everyone reacts to chemo differently, but I really think you would do ok. The nurses are really great and if you need anything they are always there to help or answer questions. You'll do fine I promise.
You're right Felicia, I had been reading and posting on this site for a while until I noticed this thread. There was so many topics to choose from before you even get to this thread that I just never noticed. Glad I did though.
Everyone have a blessed evening!

Hello all, Haven't been here much lately but I am glad to see there is more activity on this thread than before. And yes it is pretty far down on the page I sometimes forget about it. I was so excited about it when I first found it but it seemed that if no was even posting for days at a time. If at all.
Been sorta out of it lately with this Taxol tx. One more to go next Wed. Thank the Lord. He saw me through it all. Just the expected side effects. Nothing major like I thought and seen on documenturies. Now ready to work on getting my life back on track. Haven't worked since surgery in Oct. Ready to get back active and into the community. Been hiding out at home most of the time. And like Sharon gaining weight. I just singned up for Dr. Ian's 50millionpoundchallenge. And signed up for Oprah's A New Earth interactive internet class that starts on March 3. Need to figure out what my life's purpose is. Just so many things going on in my head right now. Life before cancer was a struggle and alot of messed up choices. Want to do better with this second chance. Then I wonder when that fear tries to creep in is it over. Do I have to live in fear that this thing will come back again or some place else? Every weird feeling I get I wonder is that it. I know I need to strengthen my faith in God. I try to make my daily confessions of healing and faith, to get it down in my heart so that I know that I know that I know by his stripes I am healed. Maybe to much time on my hands to think to much. Idle time is the devils workshop. I know this probably sound like venting or complaining but I really don't mean to. Just have so much on my mind and I know that there is someone that is probably feeling or has felt the same way that I am. Who better to talk to about what you are going through than those who have been there.
Hope you all have a blessed nite.

Been thinking about you, Sabrina! Glad you are making moves and preparing yourself for what's next. Remember that song by Soul II Soul about 15 years ago? "Keep On Movin'" It's become my unoffical post-cancer treatment motto. I might not always know where I'm going, but I know I'm going somewhere!
Benita, hope life is treating you and yours well
Sharon, are you back to walking to lose weight? You know I'm a little biased
, but have you thought about doing karate? It's great for cardio plus you get the added benefit of being able to hit stuff really hard and scream at the top of your lungs, which is good for stress reduction. I'll even help you find a class near you if you'd like...
-
Ha Ha Felicia, yes I love that song as they say "that was my jam".
I was telling my husband that my theme song for bc is Mary J Bliges
"Just Fine". I gave him a little dance to it with my shirt off with my missing (girl). He got a kick out of it. So he came back at me with Michael Jackson's "Wanna be starting something". After 23 years and a missing (girl), bald head, and a few extra pounds, not a lot just a little, he still thinks that I am hot. Go figure...
Sharon, hello if you are planning on getting those pounds off check out the 50millionpoundschallenge.com. And if there is a State Farm where you live you can pick up a package with the cd and a pedometer. It's all free. I picked up mine today. While I was running out and about I for once in a while actually was feeling good about this and weight cautious of the food I was choosing. Don't know how long it will last cause KFC's hot wings were calling me. lol
Oh and try drinking pomegrant juice. It's good for fighting cancer and have lots of antioxidants. (so they told me).
Hello Trumpet glad your chemo went well...And Happy hello to you also.
You ladies have a blessed day...

Thanks Sabrina and Felicia for the weightloss info. Just got a call from my onc and it wasn't what I wanted to hear. Looks like the adriamycin kicked butt on my heart. I won't be starting the herceptin like I wanted. I'll still be starting the taxol on the 7th. He put in some meds to help reverse the damage done to my heart. Hopefully I can get back on track in a few months. Oh well.....
As for dieting, I'm keeping away from red meats right now and only eating grilled/baked fish and chicken. I started back eating my fruits and veggies (lots of salads). Now I just have to push myself out the door and start walking. I don't think I could handle karate right now. My arm from the surgery is still a little sore at times. We'll see.
Well ladies, you have a blessed night!
-
Sorry to hear about the adriamycin's toll on your heart, Sharon! Take care of yourself and keep looking up...
-
Opps! Post duplicated somehow, so I'll say this:
Haven't heard from you Ferne, Sheri, CurlyKat, Dawn, Faye, Cheryl, Crystal, Linda, KarenX, M, Elisabeth, Kim, Deborahann, Trish and Yogi - how are you ladies doing?
-
Hello Ladies,
Ferne here.
I'm hangin'. Had some progression being off of chemo for 7 weeks while doing the wbr which wiped me out. I started a new chemo (Ixempra) yesterday, so I'm patiently waiting to get back in the groove. I'm still working full time, although some days I don't know how. I just keep praying for the strength to make it through all this.
-
Hey Felicia, Yogi here. Still hangin in there. I get my port put in March 4th. I had the staples removed wed. and it wasn't bad at all. So I guess sometime next week I'll start treatment just waiting to hear from my onc. My husband and I bought a new house so I'm trying to get a little packing done while I'm up to it. But I told him we WILL hire pro. movers because there is only so much I'm gonna do and of course he understands. How are you doing?
-
HELLO TO EACH OF YOU

Hi Felicia,
I admit I have been away for awhile. All is well. Still need to go get fitted for forms and such, still putting it off.
Dawn -
Hey Felicia, I am well. Mom has been doing ok. She decided about a month ago to stop working. She is stage 4 with mets to liver and bone. We find out on March 19th if the onc is going to change her chemo again. Her tumor markers were up a little. Mom thinks the hospital got her blood work mixed up with someone elses there because they took blood results that her onc did not request. So to be safe they are going to redo her blood work again. She is due for scans again in April.
Thanks for thinking off me. How are you doing these days.
Crystal
-
Ferne, How are you doing on th Ixempra, that is the same chemo they are thinking switching my mother to. I have done some research on it and there are several side effects that you can experience with it. Have you experienced any major changes. I would appreciate any information you can give for my mom.
Crystal
-
Yogi, I saw in another post that you are from Alabama. What part of Alabama are you from. I was born in Florence, Alabama and go back to visit often with my mom and my family.
Crystal
-
Crystal, I am from Anniston, Alabama 45 mins. from B'ham and about an hour from Atlanta.

Good Monring Ladies! I pray all had a Blessed weekend!
I had to make a trip to the ER; I developed a clot in my port arm. They attempted at CT scan to determine if any clot had broken off to the lungs, but the contrasting dye burst through the IV vein and into my already swollen arm! My blood pressure and pulse rate was sky high as well, so an overnight stay was a must. Thanks be to God, we jumped on this early!
Ladies: Do not ever hesitate to call or go to the doctor/ER when you have the slightest inclination that something is not right. You know your body best; just let it be known!!
-
Ferne, you are my hero. Hope the Ixempra keeps your progression in check and allows you to get your energy back...
Yogi, movers are expensive - but worth every bloody penny, imho. Take it easy with the packing, superwoman!
Linda, glad to hear all is well in your neck of the woods. How's the weather this time of year in Topeka?
Dawn, take as much time as you need for your fittings. I so didn't want to do mine that I avoided it totally and kind of bought a prosthesis "off the rack" then spent the next few months worring it would fall out during karate, lol. Go when you are ready...
Crystal, hoping your mom is adjusting to not working ok! Sorry to hear about the blood work mix-up. I'll be thinking of her on 3/19!
Oh my, Trumpet! You had quite a weekend! Glad you're home and I hope you are feeling better. I'm glad you listened to your gut and went to the ER!
I'm really tired today and have been for a few thanks to a head cold that has royally kicked my butt. My onc is convinced it is viral, so I just have to ride it out. I just wish I could breathe through my nose, though...
Take care, all. Catch you soon...
-
Good morning ladies...I am feeling good today...Today is my last chemo...Pray for me. Hip, Hip, Hooray!!!
Have a blessed day all
