I figured they were going to be really small, Sheila.  My dh was getting carried away--he has quite an imagination.  "You're getting tattoos????"  He thought the prospect was pretty exciting.  He's going to be sorely disappointed!  LOL!!

Thanks for the information.  I hope your appointment isn't rescheduled again.  I didn't realize you were going to get radiation.  When do you start?

    Hugs,

Just reading up some, and so glad your bone scan was clear, Sue.

Yes, shingles, a pox on life! Ha.. I see they gave you the antiviral. Shingles sure can be painful. Hope your's stay on your back. Mine came out last year on my face near my eye, and in my scalp. I swear I have a permanent bald spot were a lesion was.

    Good news: they don't recurr.

Do watch your temp, etc.. take care of yourself, Sue. Just rest. You're immune system is working hard right now. But you know that.

I know!  What a fool!!!  He knows how I feel about tattoos--I've always thought it would be fun to get a cute little critter or a heart or something tattood on my ankle or shoulder.  But then I start to think about how I'm going to feel about it and how will it look when I'm 70 (if I make it that long).

Sheila, didn't you already have reconstruction?  Am I confusing you with someone else?

    Hugs,

Karen, I am at the last step of my reconstruction, the icing on the cake so to speak Embarassed. The recon is done in steps, starting with the surgery to put in the expanders, filling up the expanders, exchanging the expanders with the perm implant, creating the nipple twist, and finally tattooing the areola (put the color on). Each step has its time frame before moving on to the next step. My PS said that he needs at least 8 months to create a good boob, my 8 months was up the first of Feb. Also, I don't need rads because I did the bilat mast for my DCIS Laughing.

My husband doesn't like tattoos either but he did get one last fall for me (his first and last). He got a tattoo of a pink ribbon with my name over the top and under my wife-my hero. He got his without numbing Tongue out. He said he can't wait to come home and see what I had done this week.

Sue, the tattoos for the rads are just small dots to mark where they position the rad machine to hit your "hot spots". They basically play dot-to-dot on your chest with the rads. My tattoos are to finish up my reconstruction, to make the boobs look more normal - not bumps with scars across the center.

Also, GREAT NEWS ON YOUR CLEAR SCAN!

No, for shingles, or herpes zooster I see that 400 mg 5 x per day up to 800 mg 5 times per day can be prescribed. Whilte the total mg amount seems hugh, each drug is different so you really can't go by that. I'm trying to get to the Glaxo website for you. I can't find the package insert on FDA.gov yet.

    Tender

    Recommended dosage

    ADULTS

    For Herpes Zoster (Shingles)

The usual adult dose is 800 milligrams (one 800-milligram tablet or 4 teaspoonfuls of liquid) every 4 hours, 5 times daily for 7 to 10 day

Here is the Acyclovir package insert at Glaxo SmithKine:

    http://us.gsk.com/products/assets/us_zovirax.pdf

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION Acute Treatment of Herpes Zoster: 800 mg every 4 hours orally, 5 times daily for 7 to 10 days.

Just be sure your kidneys are working real well, by keeping an eye out for a lot of new swelling, changes from normal urination, fever etc... and drink lots of fluid.

Don't know what to say about your doctor's dose selection. Thank goodness for your nurse.

I want a nice one too, Sue!  My DH made a comment a while back that he'll be glad when my "f*#king overhaul" is complete.  Overhaul????  Like I chose this for myself or derive pleasure from painful surgeries and having poisons pumped into my body!!!!  Geez!!  Sorry that I'm such a lemon.  I'm more than he bargained for, I think.  Sigh.................

I am in no way an expert, but last year prior to my dx, the support group took a tour of the new radiation center at the hospital and this is what they said. They use the scans and images to figure out where the radiation needs to go exactly. They try to focus the radiation on the area where the cancer was at and only radiate that area to prevent damage to other areas. they called that the 'hot spot'.  At our cancer center they have a person who examines all the data and creates the screen for the rad machine that is specific for you.

About the nice dh, this is my second try, my first one was a lousy one (had broken jaw/sinus to prove it). I waited almost 10 yrs before I was ready to try again. This one is truly a keeper, he helped raise my son (who considers Don his dad) since he was 11. My DH said that if he could he would take all this trouble from me.

    love,

    Sheila

Oh Sue, I know you are exhausted, sore and worried but I am so glad the bone scan was clear. I felt sure that it would be.

I am sure you probably do have shingles. It is a typical reaction of the immune system when it is stressed. My first husband got it once and he was in a lot of pain. As far as I know, he has only had it once. You can't get it if you haven't had chicken pox previously. As far as the dr misdiagnosing? Annoying and frustrating but doctors do make mistakes. You do need to rest as much as possible and let your body gain some strength. You are so strong Sue - I cannot believe how you do it! Working every day, feeling exhausted, caring for your boys...you do it all, feeling rotten most of the time but you keep going! That is true courage and bravery.

Karen, I am thinking of you too and your approaching surgery and rads. Did I read that you are having your surgery next Wednesday? When do you start your rads? Surely they will let you recover from you surgery before they start zapping you?

Sheila - yippee! You will soon have your tattoos and your recon will be complete! It has taken so long, hasn't it? I hope you and your husband will be thrilled with the final results.

Where is Ulla? Ulla, please just send us a few words to let us know that you are alright. You are a very special member of this thread.

Shirlann - how is Walt and how are you? Have been thinking about you both. Hope they are making progress with a dx and will be able to give him something to stop the dizzy spells.

Lisa, how are you? I am guessing that you are pretty stiff and sore. I hope Olivia or someone can post soon and let us know how you are feeling.

AE, I am thinking of you and wondering how you are. When do you have your biopsy?

My sister rang this morning to say she was safely with her daughter in Canada. She flew the long way and was 27 hours in the air - plus a 2 hour stopover in Abu Darbi. She is exhausted and hopes her daughter's baby won't be born until she has a good sleep!

Hi Lucy, Mel, Tender, Dawn, Mia, Angie,  Auntie Em, Wren, Barbie, Pearl and everybody here. Love to you all.

Sheila, I loved reading about your dh. Your first husband sounds like a nightmare. I am so happy you have such a great man now.

(((((Karen))))) - that was such a mean thing your dh (DH) your husband said to you. Perhaps he is just not very skilled at expressing himself?

No, my sister hasn't moved to Canada - just gone over to be there while the baby (her name is Grace) is born and to help in the first few weeks after the birth. She is due back in Australia in early April. She lives in Brisbane so I don't see much of her.

Sue, I am praying that you don't get any sickness with this treatment. Others here have said that the treatment you are on now isn't nearly as bad as the red devil. Of course, everyone is different and each body reacts in its individual way. I wish I was there having a cuppa with you!

Oh Jane .... me too...what bliss having a hug and a chatter and a cuppa... how little things...of no extravagance can bring happiness that money can't buy xxx I wish we lived nearer!!!

Grace is a beautiful name... I have been really broody lately...Not broody as in wanting a baby usual feeling ...I think the broodiness comes from the worrying of what may come of my boys (god forbid) and caring so much more and worrying so much more...difficult to explain...I have an urge to wrap all the children I come into contact with up in cotton wool...god I am a strange person...I am so analytical of my mind and body... I think the body and mind are amazing .. xxx

Jane I wish I lived next door to you... xxx

I love the name Grace!  I feel the same way you do, Sue.  I just want the chance to meet my grandkids.  I see how much joy my children bring my parents.  I want to experience that some day.  Damn stupid bootface!  We're too young to be thinking this way.  I guess I'm feeling a bit broody myself.  Sigh.......  Maybe it's just because I started thinking about the DH's nasty comment and I'm ticked off again.  He's a generous, hard-working man, but he can also be very thoughtless and selfish.  I think a lot of it stems from the fact that he didn't marry until he was almost 40.  He was VERY set in his ways.  People tried to warn me, but did I listen?  NOOOOOO!!  I'd love for you to come give him an overhaul, Sue!!  You're so feisty--he wouldn't know what hit him!!!  LOL!!!  I can just envision it!  I would stand by and laugh my butt off!

Your hubby sounds like a really great guy, Sheila.  You'd better hang on to that one!  The good ones are few and far between.  That first husband of yours sounds like a real piece of work.  Thank God you kicked him to the curb!

Well, I have a busy evening ahead.  I have to pick Portia up from the elementary school where she helps out with the kids for a community service project.  Then she has a doctor's appt.  After that we have to grab a quick bite to eat and I have to drop Chase off at Grandma and Poppa's where the dh will pick him up to take him to his basketball game.  Portia is taking a comedy improv class, so I have to take her there.  I hate busy evenings like this.  It's a gloomy day and I just feel like sleeping.  Yep, I'm broody alright.

Take care all--Jane, Melody, Shirlann, Tender, Ulla, Karyll (where ARE you??), Lucy, Lisa, Aunty Em, Dawn, Mia, Wren, and anyone I've forgotten.  I love you all!

    Hugs,

    Karen

Holy crap, you ladies have been busy.

Sue, I an so glad you survived your treatment but CANNOT believe you have shingles-  YOU ARE ONE TOUGH LADY- I can't even imagine the pain your were in.  I am SO glad they found out what was wrong and are treating you.

I have rad tattoes, as well as regular ones!! lol.  The rad ones are little dots.  They put them on so it is easier for them to zoom in on the spot they need to focus on.  They didn't hurt at all. You will have to go for 1 or 2 sessions of "markings" before they actually start.   Now, my normal tat's - thats I different story!!  Some of them hurt a bit.

Gotta run and walk my dogs,

Sending big hugs right back to you dear Karen. You are such a wonderful mother and you see the good in your husband but I do wish he would show some tenderness sometimes. Fears for the future are so understandable  - the younger your children are the more intense those fears would be. Yet, we never stop being mothers - even when our kids leave home and go far away. Your bootface was caught quite early, your nodes were clear and you have endured heavy treatment so you have probably kicked it for good. Yet, there is still fear. I hope this fades away over the next year.

    Love to you

Hi SueSmile! I'm so glad you got through todays tx. And there is a very good chance you may not get sick like before. Are you getting tx weekly now? Even though thats yucky , it will seem to go faster than before. Shingles?! You know , I had shingles about 9 years ago , same place as you. They were very painful. Meds sound about right. My doc asked me if I was under alot of stress , I said yes , work at the time was bad , he said that stress and bad physical problems can bring on shingles , and asked if I could change jobs. And I did. But he also gave me ten days off work to get better. So I think of all you're are going through , no wonder the shingles came on. Yes it is the chicken pox virus laying dormant in our systems until something brings it on. I'm surprised your doc didn't tell you to take some time off work. You really need to rest so you can heal and the pain doesn't get worse. xxxxx Love you sweet sister.

Hi to all my other sweet sisters. I am going to lay down and relax. I don't know why , but my paputations are back once again. As soon as I got off work , I was cleaning my car off and boom , I started getting them and they haven't let up yet. Gosh , I wish I knew what brings them on. This happened about two weeks ago , I went to the doc , they gave me an ekg , which was normal. And the  next day , they just stopped. They did say to stay away from the caffeine. The weather was horrible driving home today , I thought maybe the stress brought them on. OK ladies take care. ttyl . xxxx Melody
