I love this discussion about the post-cancer hotness potential and absolutely agree, especially when I look at Raye's and Beth's pics! I can't say that I have felt more attractive, in the traditional sense, after chemo but it's like you said, Beth, we revel in the return of our health (and hair!) and that is what makes us so HOT! Yes, some of us are hotter than others, but I really think it's those of us who are embracing life and curiosity and energy and optimism who are the sexiest and most attractive. It's something that we can each attain too, and doesn't depend so much on the physical characteristics as what we do with them. How cool is that?
Laura, I'm so jealous! I can't use Botox because I have Myasthenia Gravis, but maybe you can finagle some Restalyne for me?! I'm becoming due for a booster but can't yet afford it. Maybe I'll wear a burka until I save up enough money for a syringe-full

Oh Marin Sweety! I would do whatever I could to afford you the luxes...You are an awesome girl....I just love your insight! I still think you should have a "column" called ASK MARIN...FU** ABBY!
-
I would totally subscribe to that column.
-
Marin - I totally agree with your statement: ...but I really think it's those of us who are embracing life and curiosity and energy and optimism who are the sexiest and most attractive. It's something that we can each attain too, and doesn't depend so much on the physical characteristics as what we do with them." Absoeffinglutely!
Laura -great idea!
The fashion thread: I don't think I want to start it - I am scared too - ha. I agree, it would be fun - my only fear is that we start naming brands, etc. Unless phrased as such "I got these awesome brown Ralph Lauren pants at TJ Maxx for $20.00. They are made of blah blah and make my ass look like a million bucks." That kind of thing.

-
I just started reading this thread last night and could not stop from start to finish! You ladies are so hilarious! And full of good ideas. What fun I had reading your posts! I am adding this to my favorite conversations. Wish I has some words of wisdom or hints. I sure love reading all of yours! Great thread.

you guys are such pussies. I'll start the fashion thread.
Lauralynne welcome to the makeup thread. Making the world a prettier place, one survivor at a time.
LOLOL
-
HAA! God Beth, you crack me up!!!
-
"you guys are such pussies."
And I am unanimous in that!
Shades of Mrs. Slocombe. http://www.bbc.co.uk/comedy/areyoubeingserved/index.shtmlTina

"you guys are such pussies."
ROFLMAO - OMG - LOL
"Making the world a prettier place, one survivor at a time."
That is awesome!
-
Tina - I just checked out the link! OMG - too funny!
I think Beth should get a colored wig like Mrs. Slo, take a photo and post it in the first post of the fashion thread.
Beth - hmmmmm...perhaps pink!
-
You should know that my true colors come out around those that I really love and trust... and clearly you girls have given me that.
If we can't laugh, then what's the point???
-
I love your true colors...they're funny ones!
Well hey...the fashion thread could not have come at a better time! I just accepted a new position! I have been self employed and my main client offered me a p/t gig. I'm a product designer (graphics). My new role will be Creative Director/New Product Development. I think it will be good for me. I will go into their office M, W & Th and work from home on Tuesday and have Friday off. So...since I've been working in my jammies for the past 5 years...I will need lots of fashion advice. The dress code is casual, but since I'll be in a management position...I'll need to have a cas/pro "look". 4 designers will be reporting to me (I just hope they're not cry-babies! LOL - OMG).
So...I guess I had better head over to the new thread - ala beth...aka...Mrs. Slocombe. LOL
Raye - btw, the fashion thread idea was Tina's...just want to give credit where credit's due!
Hope you're all having a gorgeous day!

-
Well, my chicas, I , for one, am no pussy, but Beth, I think, is the bravest of us all! I'm headed over to fashion where I expect Raye to tell us how we can get those pants that will make our asses look like a million bucks! Mine is dragging around like a dollar bill these days....
...and I do leg presses and glute squeezes obsessively....ugh!~Marin

Anybody using collagen filler? I got some at the grocery store and thecrease between my eyes (you know, right where you squish your eyebrows together) is GONE! Talk about dramatic effect for me ... I've been using it on my lines near my eyes and they look tons better.
-
omg...you guys all crack me up!!!
Laura - congrats on the job!! That is awesome, sounds like you will have a lot of responsibility along the ability to be creative. And wear cool clothes!!
I feel very comfortable here too, Beth - If I am not comfortable, I am a pussy - if in my zone - not at all!
Marin - haha -that was merely an example, my ass (even though I run) is rather smushy and does not look like 1 peso, let alone a million bucks (although maybe they are worth the same now
). A great tip is that jeans with pockets with the overflap seem to small the arse look attractive- like those Levi's ughhh, can't think of the number. 575 maybe? Can't remember. -
Rocktober- i have that very same crease - I will have to check out the collagen filler. Thanks for the tip.
-
Laura congrats on the Job!!!! I'm so happy for you. I smell a shopping trip...
-
Beth, you DO crack me up!
-
Laura, the idea may have been mine, but I'm no fashion expert. We need someone (ie. Beth) who is more "with it" than this country bumpkin.
Now, Rocktober, tell us more about that collagen filler! What brand? At the GROCERY store??? I'd love to smooth my frown line. I look like I'm always concentrating on the troubles of the world.

Thanks for the well wishes! I'm excited about it, but I'm also a bit nervous. Since chemo, I've been hiding out in the comfort/safety of my home. For some reason, the dx, Mast, chemo, etc. left me a little more nervous and vulnerable than my old self. But...I think overall - it will be good for me to get back out there and shake things up! LOL I d-zine gift items...so I get to create all kinds of corny, sappy, cheesy gift items. BUT...corny, sappy, cheesy SELLS! And that's my job...creating products that sell! Out of the top 14 internet gift sites...we have 30% of the market share. My goal...more, more, more! By year's end...I'm hoping to change that figure to 50%.
And Botox on Saturday...will give me the confidence I need! LOL LOL
-
WOW laura- that sounds like a great gig. Do you guys have a web site?
-
Beth - All of our items are personalized with a name or wedding date or birth date, etc

Have re-discovered Aveeno products! Aveeno Active Naturals.
Terrific cleanser: Ultra-Calming Foaming Cleanser. Around $8.00
Night cream: Ultra-Calming Night Cream. NO GREASE. I am also using it daytime over my Vit A treatment gel. The only thing I don't like is that it is scented. Not bad, but I prefer unscented. Around $16.00
Hand cream: Intense Relief Hand Cream. Totally non-greasy! Doesn't wash off. Wow, I love this stuff.
I have also found thin, cotton gloves at CVS. Two pair for about $5.00. These are great for night wear over greasy creams like the Bag Balm. If you just cannot stand wearing gloves for even a little while at night, you can just cut off fingers to protect the affected fingertips.

-
Tina....Where in CVS (like what dept.) did you find the gloves? I'd love to pick some up!
Don't Aveeno products have parabens in them? I know that I had started using the cleanser, but saw it had methylparaben, etc. It didn't stop me and I finished the bottle (I love it too!), but the next time I switched to Oil of Olay's cleanser with microbeads. I like it, but it doesn't feel as refreshing or as clean as the Aveeno. It's also costlier. Sigh.....

You can find the gloves at cvs near the bodywash and facial cleansre aisle. They usually have them hanging at the end of the aisle next to sleep and eye masks. They also could be near the nail clippers and hair brushes, but generally they are with the lotions and bodywashes.
I used to use a lot of Aveeno products b/c they are gentle on the skin, but I truly love using purpose face wash. It is the ONE cleanser that will never ever irritate me skin.
-
Speaking of gloves...for those of us that like to use sun-less tanners...I love those real rough/course gloves. They're great for exfoliating the whole body...which makes the sunless tanners work real well - no blotches. I use them with a grainy exfoliator...man what a difference.
Also, have any of you used a hand-held rechargeble vibrating skin cleanser? I saw one called SonicDermabrasion at timeformecatalog.com ($59) I'm thinking it might come in "handy" (hu-hu) when using sun-less tanning cream on my face this spring and summer. Curious if it works...
-
The Collagen Filler was L'Oreal brand, Tina I pm'd you, though.
Another tip I learned from L'Oreal is that you can use your eye cream around your lips. No need to buy another cream!
-
When my citrus exfoliater gets overwhelmed by the dry winter air, I use a buff puff with lotion and get the same effects, i think, ? as that $59 goodie. My skin is so smooth, I love putting the moisture on. I only do it once every few weeks.
-
Thanks for the exfoliating tips. Laura, thanks for the tip on the exfoliating gloves to prep for the self tan debacle (in my case, that is).
Speaking of self tanners, how does one "wait several minutes" (how long is that anyway??) before getting dressed? I apply the self tanner, THEN brush my teeth, blow my afro dry, put my make up on and the stuff still stains my clothing. We ladies don't have time to sit around naked in the bathroom waiting for this stuff to dry. Can I blow it dry? Has anyone tried this? Any suggestions?
-
I do mine on the weekend when I have time to run around in my panties and bra--buy you may be a bikini gal, I'm not. I load the dishwasher, start clothes in the washer, etc, etc.
I have no prob. with them. when it feels dry to the touch I do fine. But again, I just do up to my shorts line, or a little higher and arms and face, neck. I will have to put on my swim suit to do chores this summer and let it dry since I swim regularly now---otherwise it'll be a farmer tan.
