Brenda--my daughter does karate tournaments, too. Are you going to go to the Seaside Open in April?
-
How did it go, ladies?
-
nash-Yes! That is the tournament our dojo puts on. If you have never been to it you must go. It is a great tournament. The one on Feb 23 is the Bob White Invitational. All proceeds go to Royal Family Kids Camp in Newport-Mesa. It is forms, sparring and team fighting. I am pretty sure it is not U.S.K.A. so there are no points but it should be fun. We still are not sure we are going.
Starfish-We had a great time but did miss you. Did you have fun in FL. When is surgery?
-
Brenda--we're done Seaside the past two years (kata only). I know the dojo you guys are with.
I'll check out the Santa Ana tournament--wasn't familiar with that one. Although it's the weekend we have company, but maybe next year.
Hey, Lisa Starfish! I was just thinking about you when you posted! Hope you had a great time in FL. Lunch was great--looking forward to seeing you at a future gathering.
-
nash-We just went to the Palm Springs Regionals last Saturday. My 9 year old got 1st place in sparring and 3rd in Kata. My dh got 2nd in sparring. 6 year old got a medal for participation. It was his 1st tournament.
-
Awesome! Congrats all around! How cool your dh competes, too.
-
Nash-This was his first time. He was so nervous. He had to compete with a brown belt for 1st. That is why he got 2nd.
-
Good for him! The sparring can be really intimidating. Sounds like he did great.
-
O.K. ladies how are we doing on suggestions for lunch. Date and time and place? I am not the only person here with organizational skills. Someone else can take the rains anytime. I don't mind doing it all but I would hate to offend anyone by acting all bossy or in charge of things.
-
Oh why NOT Brenda---I prefer to use the word assertive--not BOSSY!!! Anyway--OK--how about Milton's ..it is really easy to get to and very central to north and south..

We have company coming every weekend in Feb. except for the weekend of the 9/10. That would be right before Starfish's surgery around the 15th (right, Lisa?). Does that weekend work for anyone else?
-
Sorry for that goofy entry---anyway--is time a consideration for the church ladies--? If so--let's say 1 o'clock on Feb 24th---I may have out of town guests too---but she'll either come with me so the boys can have qual time---or I'll figure out something else for them to do...
-
I could do Feb 10th...will be away the 15th-18th to Big Bear....
-
If I opt for chemo the 9/10 weekend would be immediately after my first treatment. But if the first treatment doesn't totally knock me out, I could do it then.
csj -
I think I can do the 10th. I don't have my calendar right here and am to lazy to go get it. I will check back. Any place we pick for lunch is fine with me.
csj-What is going on with you? What chemo are they talking about giving you? I don't think you are going to feel like lunch with the girls right after chemo but you never know. Everyone handles it differently.
-
I can do the 9th but not the 10th - we're having my youngest son's b-day party that day. My baby is turning 11 ;-) But whatever works for everyone else is fine with me as I know we can't accomodate everyone each month.
Milton's in Del Mar sounds like a good meeting place to me - near Chevy's in Flower Hill Mall off Via de la Valle.
Sylvia - we're supposed to be in Big Bear the weekend of the 15th, too.

So far I'm scheduled for TC, 4x, 3 weeks apart, starting Feb 8th. I may not feel like eating, but if I do feel well enough to drive/sit up, I'll think about coming.
-
Well, I am going to be out of town on the 9th and 10th of Feb...but if you do it then, I will maybe catch up in March..but we will be gone the weekend of the 23rd of March also...
-
Hi... Lisa, I have never been to Big Bear but the kids want to go to see SNOW again---yuk!! Being from Buffafo---it is not high on my list of priorities and if I never see it again it is OK with me---but everyone is calling me an old POOP!!! Anyway--we are staying in a cabin we rented called Smokey Bear's Den on Conifer--i'm taking some good books and will do the cooking!!! anyway--sounds like Feb is getting complicated to set up a date...?
-
Sylvia..they have alot of neat little shops up there too....not all is lost!!!
-
I am letting you guys hammer it out. I can't come on the 9th.
Hey SoCal we are here together tonight. We just had a cloud burst but it gone now.
-
No rain at the moment...hubby had to start the pump to clear out some water from the pool..no tennis tomorrow...
-
OK, sounds like Feb 9/10th doesn't work, either. I can't make the other weekends in Feb. due to guests (we never have visitors, and now suddenly we have 3 sets coming in Feb!). But don't worry about me--March should be much more flexible for me, and I'll just come then.
-
Sylvia - we're on Switzerland place down by Snow Summit. Not having grown up in the snow, I don't mind a trip or two up in the winter for the boys to go snowboarding. I even got on skis last month!
Hope a date can be worked out for our Feb get together ;-)

I spent one of the longest coldest years of my life in Buffalo - you have my sympathy. Tell the family to go without you. That was the first & last time I ever walked around in snow drifts taller than I was. Yuck! (at buffalo state - only lasted one year)

I'm having surgery in LA on the 13th, have to drive up on the 12th for pre-op stuff. So the weekend of the 16-17th would be a little difficult, otherwise, I am good for any day.
Lisa
-
I am out of town for Presidents Day week-end.
-
Yes--Buffalo in winter can be kinda grim.....
.. My mother grad from there when it was called Buffalo State Teacher's College in 1938, my oldest daughter grad from there in 1988 and my husband and I both graduated from there!!!
Also---yes-- shopping sounds like a great idea for Big Bear--and there had better be a fire place---we are also taking two big dogs --an english setter and a black lab---
Sounds like it is getting hard to make a decision on Febs date---how many can make Feb 24th?
