Laura, you're welcome.  Can't wait to get to know you better here.  I've always read your posts as I had ILC also.  I was dx'd in July 05.  Once you get the hang of crocheting - you'll find you can't wait to make another square.  Let us know if we can help at all.

    Hugs

Liz - Thank you so much! I am so proud to be a part of your incredibly, generous endeavor. It's ironic that we were both dx'd in July of 2005 with ILC! Yikes...but we've come a long way. I am crocheting every spare second I have. Thanks again!

Wow a year already. That is so wonderful. This has been one of the niceest projects I have ever been involved in. I do have some squares to send out if I ever get my butt to the post office. I have had to realy slow down in making squares. I am haveing some lymphodema in my right wrist and forearm and the crotcheting seems to aggravate it. Yell

    Hi Girls!

Madison...since I don't have a surplus of yarn yet, is it okay if I crochet 42 squares just using 3-4 different colors?

It is ABSOLUTELY okay if you are using only 3 or 4 colors.

    Thanks, Madison

Laura - there's no requirement for you to make 42.  We appreciate it but don't worry about the total amount.  I would make a boxfull then mail them.  Now that I'm making the afghans also, I try to mail Madison and Vickie squares when I can.  Any colors work.  I love seeing everyone's squares!

i don't worry about making any particular number of squares .... i just make some and send them to the border patrol at Liz's place ... and she, madison and newvickie mix and match them to make wonderful varied hugaghans .... sometimes i have one of a color and sometimes i have 6-8 of a color ... just depends on what yarn i have/receive/bought .... welcome aboard !!

Liz, Madison & Vickie, I knitted my first square today, by hand no less since I can't find the knifty knitter and couldn't figure it out anyway - finally - but I did it the wrong way so it ended up being 9 wide by 7 long so you won't see that one.  I'll continue working on them (slowly, but I'll work on them).

Hey Margaret - you can have your rows go either way...each row can be the long way or the short way, so the block will be fine I think :)

I really think regular knitting is just as easy as using the knify knitter, but that's just my opinion. Especially if you use the continental method.

Margaret, the squares can go 7x9 or 9x7.  The variety, style and difference in the squares makes each afghan unique, interesting and beautiful.

WooHoo Margaret!  You go friend!  I laughed over your 7 x 9 being 9 x 7......that sounds so much like one of my statements!!!!  And just where did you learn to knit?!?!?!?!

A, ya Jasmine...............love your opinion about the knitting being easier!!!!  Have you forgotten you have seen me in action on the Hill?!?!?!?!?!  JK....hoping for another lesson this summer!

Madison:  Beautiful!  I've got some here to send......I hope to add a few more than I'll split them between who ever needs them!

Cherryl - OMG I just noticed you're from IL! Have you visited our Illinois thread (in Help Me Get Through Treatment forum)? Open invitation to you...

Well...I am so proud...I have some squares to send! Are any of you girls up for some?  But...I do have a question. How would you like me to "finish" the end piece of yarn? Should I double knot it and use an embroidery needle and thread the yarn back through some of the stitches? And should I do the same for the beginning piece of yarn? I just want to make sure I do it correctly. Right now, all of my squares just have loops at the beginning and the ends! Thanks!

Ha ha, the 9X7 vs 7X9 had me laughing too. Should I challenge someone to create a block by knitting or crocheting DIAGONALLY?  I may try one just for the heck of it.
