Ladies, what can I say. I am totally overwhelmed. I got home from a particularly grueling funeral of a friend, who had died of prostate cancer, and there was the package. I saw the return address, but it still didn't hit me until I opened the box. There was the most beautiful afghan I have ever seen!!! OMG! I am absolutely speechless! I wrapped myself up in it and it is so warm and toasty.
Thank you all, from the bottom of my heart, for all the hard work you put into it. I love it! You can feel the love in every square.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!
Love,
Jan

Hi all,
I wanted to let you all know how much my son loves the afghan you sent. We were watching a movie last night and he wrapped himself up in it and wouldn't let it go. He even fell asleep on the couch with the afghan wrapped around him! I thought you might like this picture...
Thank you all again! You've made a little boy and his mom very happy!Love,

Madison,
The afghans are beautiful!
I have about 20 squares edged and ready to send.Who would you like me to send them to?
Thanks,
BrenPS - YEAH LSU. Mr. Tim wanted to know why we were rooting for LSU.
I told him all about you and Louisiana!!
GO TIGERS!
I also showed him all the pics of the afghans.
He was really impressed.

I would love to contribute! I practiced the single stitch all weekend...I think I have perfected it. But...is a size/letter I needle okay? If not, I can run out and buy one. Also, I counted from the photo above, but want to verify...is it 49 squares per afghan?
-
We do 6 squares down and 7 rows across. There are 42 squares in each afthan.
The squares are really 7X9 in measurement.
I think the size needle used depends on the individual. Some people have a tight crochet style, others crochet different.
Please let me know if you need any additional information.
On the first or second page of this thread there is a link to patterns for 7x9 squares (if you would like to see this info).
Thank you, Madison
-
I will be mailing an afghan tomorrow and then will get started on another.
Laura welcome!
Donna I received your squares! How pretty.
Thank you all again for all your hard work.

Hi!
More questions:
How many scanes for the outside border (the area that joins all the squares together)?
How many 7x9 squares can be made from a scane?
Thanks!
-
Hey Laura-
I think there are only 3 gals putting the afghans together right now...liz, madison and vickie. The rest of us have just been making squares and mailing them to one of those gals. Then they make up an afghan that has squares made by many different folks. If you are trying to make one by yourself, I'm not sure how much yarn it will take. When I do a douple crochet I get 5 or 6 squares out of a normal sized skein. I have never done the edging or connecting part, so I don't know how much yarn it takes. I have also used up lots of little balls of left-over yarn I had sitting around by doing multi colored squares. If you are looking for a good source of yarn cheep, look at your local salvation army or second hand store. I got a HUGE box of yarn, maybe 2 feet square, for 6 bucks because it was all partial skeins, which work great for the small squares. Have fun...I love this project, especially since so many folks are involved....

Thanks Deb!
No way...I'm not THAT good...I would have no idea how to connect the squares as I'm not as talented as liz, Madison and Vicki. I'm going to make the squares and then send them to one of the girls (which one and where?). But I need to know how much yarn to buy for the squares, and I thought I would also purchase coordinating yarn for the outer part and send it along with my squares (I don't have any yarns scraps because I've never done this before). If you consistantly use black yarn, that's fine, and I'd be happy to purchase black then. Just let me know what!
So...liz, Madison or Vicki...?
-
Laura,
We always use black thread for our border and to stitch the afghan together.
When I crochet I get about 5 to 6 7X9 "squares" out of one skein...
Thanks, Madison
-
Great...thanks. Should I send the squares to you?
-
-
Laura when you get ready to mail some out - let us know. Whomever needs the squares the most will let you know.
Madison & Vickie - thank you for all your hard work. This is such a great project that I know will continue as long as we can do it.
