Tina...sent you the invite!!  Woohoo...I do like Obama too!  In fact so does my momma (an 85 year old staunch diehard conservative)...she just had a stroke and is learning to talk again, and he's her favorite topic of conversation!!!

There's a quality about him (besides just the good looks) that makes him appeal to a broader crowd. I'm excited that there's a candidate who seems able to bridge some of the divisions that have developed in our society. Wonderful that your mom is recovering and still interested in current affairs at 86. My grandfather was like that.

So...I got your e-mail, went to the page and have no clue how to put myself/stats on it. Help! Allyson

    What invite?

A nice, more moderate day here in the Northeast.  Cripe, it sure was cold.

DH made a large breakfast this morning (fried egg, homemade chips, frizzled ham and toast); just could not force down all the ham and toast.  Oh, and V8 and a large glass of ff milk.  What diet?  Well, I didn't have anything but a single serving of low fat cheddar and a cup of red tea for lunch.  I'm feeling a bit deprived but think I can make it through the day.  I'm making NE clam chowder for supper, the one on the cover of this month's Yankee mag.  Will let you know how it is.

So, I guess I'd better get off my duff and go out for that walk.  No excuse today.

Tina, the invitations for you or anyone else on this thread who wants to post their stats.  I created two Google documents that we all can edit, but you need to belong to the Google Chemo Spa group in order to have editing rights.

BTW, I've been trying to get everyone to do this for about a month but the only person who has actually gone in and edited a page besides me is Dottie.

Should we keep this going or not? If you want, PM me an email address.

I tried again to do the Google thing. Definitely not so good with the technology. I'd be fine with just updating on progress here- or we could PM each other on some agreed upon day? I'm afraid Barack has it all over me in the hotness department. I definitely need to work on this. Still- loving having some hair versus none! Allyson

    Good evening girls...

I am so sorry I made an Ordeal for YOU!!   There's got to be a better way.  We did have a Google spreadsheet that everyone updated on the Jan Chemo thread that seemed to be a lot easier.

Nice to see you Allyson...and I have to admit...I do see the Obama connection & you should be flattered.  When my hair was as short as yours I had the unnerving experience of having someone who looked like my father staring back at me from the mirror!!

Well, I got up today feel great & full of energy and ready to do all kinds of things, and then I somehow pulled a tendon or muscle over a shoulder blade while getting dressed.  I was so uncomfortable I took a Flexeril (muscle relaxer), and it has put me into a grog.  I feel asleep and dreamed about 3 or 4 times in the bathtub, got up, sat down on the bed to try to post but feel asleep again and didn't wake up until my husband called me to dinner a few minutes ago.  I feel like a total degenerate...and for all this, the back problem doesn't feel any better.!!!Cry

Maybe it will go away overnight.  I'll probably be bouncing off the walls around 2 am! I hate wasting days like this...I have been have a trouble with weight gain all winter because of lack of exercise and I really hate to diet...oi vay....I'd rather burn the fat off.

    Hi Girls,

This board sure has been busy the past few days! Nice to see the flurry!

Just got home from the VICTORY party after my Seahawks won! I know, no sports fans in this group, but sports is what has kept me in Spa shape all these years... especially when the only line I know in Spanish is  "una mas cervesa por favor, mui fria!! Raye -- I'll drink with you any day!! These days it's Miller Lite or just good red wine...and an occasional bloody mary to get my veggies!

Welcome, Allyson, you're  funny. Obama is on TV right now and while he IS handsome, YOU are beautiful!! Laughing   Pup -- keep up the good work. I was a pack-a-day-er until I quit cold turkey 20+ years ago. Nice poem, Miz.  Mary, keep the faith on your hair... the chemo is still in our system and when it finally leaves us alone, our bodies will get back to normal. Hi and hugzz to everyone else ...

Hopefully headed to the gym early tomorrow, so better hit the sack.

Yippee! I am totally psyched... As of about an hour ago we (husband and I) are going on an adventure today. Headed to Keene NH to meet the candidates- Edwards at 3:30 and Obama at 6:30. This evolved out of a phone call from my daughter this morning- she and her husband are going and now we all are. I slept 10 1/2 hours last night so hopefully my energy will hold up. Hey maybe I'll be able to post a pic of me AND Obama,:) Definitely bringing the camera. No going to the gym today but am packing some healthy snacks to take along so I'm not at the mercy of....whatever.

A happy rest of the weekend to all of you. Thanks for the support on the hair- I'm a little self conscious about it. I'm still in hair coloring withdrawal. Allyson

After my hair got to about the 1 inch mark, I started using clairol's touch of sun and am happy to report that I am once again a natural blonde.  Give a few weeks then go to a professional hair stylist to get a really great hair color.

Whoa, lots of activity here for sure.

Allyson - you look great! gorgeous hair!

Puppy, congrats on Day 6 is it? ! That is tremendous. Keep up the good work.

Casey, yes, the 5th wheels that I liked of course were huge ones with every amenity known to man - "beer pockets with champagne tastes" as my mother used to say. We did have a great time, probably walked 2 miles, as we were there for 5 hours.

Dottie - whenever you're ready Girl. Tonight, we are going out to watch the OSU game. Drank Friday and now today - crazy, aren't I?

MizSissy, thanks for the kind words! I hope you are feeling better today?

OK, time to go to meeting.

    Have a great afternoon all.

I'm playing with avatars as you can see. Puppy- good luck with the quit. I think I mentioned that I quit last year after being re-hooked for 4 years after being smoke free for 15 years. Anyhow- it took (no lie) about 150 tries, but I did it and am smoke free about 15 months now.

Raye you are either a goddess or really photogenic. I am in awe of you. Mizsissy- hope the shoulder is better.

NH was great - both candidates have great platforms (I think) and are decent, committed to positive change, smart, etc. etc. The number of people who showed up for the Obama rally was mind bending. My husband and I got our pic taken with John Edwards parents. My daughter and I somehow got to shake hands with Obama. Really I am not normally a groupie but this was really exciting. Lots of good energy around these candidates. I'll try to post a couple of pics if anyone wants to see.

I just got back from a walk with my neighbor and her toddler. It's warm here actually- 50s?!? Daughter is coming at noon from MA and we'll walk some more. She volunteered to give the dogs a bath- they'll be muddy so they'll need it- they already need it since they haven't had a bath since just after my surgery in May Embarassed so they're dirty dogs. Wishing you all health and happiness today. Allyson

    Good Morning ladies...

It's a rainy, gloomy day in Pinckney and I feel just a little depressed.  I gave a very nice present to a friend for Christmas, but it got stolen before she had a chance to enjoy it at all!!!

Puppy, you're doing just fine.  Quitting smoking is not easy but your making terrific progress.  You've cut down a lot and soon you'll be able to cut them completely out.

I am proud of my girls who are keeping their New Year's resolutions, but a little ashamed of myself for not trying harder with mine.  I haven't even weighed!!! Uck, I hate dieting.  In the summer, I just exercise more to lose weight and that seems to do the trick, as long as I stay away from cake and cookies.  It's too late to weigh today because I've already had tea, but I am going to be very good and keep a food diary and do it if it's the last thing I do.

My shoulder is  OK, as long as I don't look over my right shoulder (like when backing up the car)...this is a huge improvement over the weekend.

Tomorrow I am going to get my hair done!!!

I love to check in here...we have such a nice group and we have three wonderful new members...Tina, Allyson, and Jasmine...who have made this a nicer place (not that it wasn't nice before!!!).. I think we're gonna have a great year.

     Love to all!!!!  XXXXOOOOOOOOOO Mizsissy

Hi All!  Nice to hear from everyone.

I went to my first lunchtime yoga class yesterday.  It is a really good class, and it is so convenient that I will have a hard time skipping it.  My Sports Circuit trainer just quit at the Y.  I am really, really going to miss him.  He is opening his own gym, but it is kind of far from my house.  The class has been canceled until Jan 18 when they hope to have a new person hired.  I went to a Step Aerobics class last night instead.  Wow!  I had no idea how hard that is!

I am running about a mile now with a couple of walking breaks.

Puppy, keep at it with quitting smoking.  It is hard, but you can do it.

Allyson, I want to see the pictures!  How exciting.

MizS, take care of that shoulder.

Raye, you mention the OSU game.  Hello??!?  They were playing my home town team and alma mater, LSU!  Go Tigers!  2008 Champs!

Thanks Puppy! I am glad you are taking the Chantix - that will make it much easier than quitting cold turkey! You are doing great BTW!!!

allyson - I see you like to change you avatar like I do! What happened to Obama?

MizS - what are you having done to your hair tomorrow? How exciting. A good diary is a good idea. When I write down my calories, I feel as though I have much more control. oh, BTW, I updated that Google s/s with photos.

Mary- hello!?!!? Wink Big congrats on your win last night - your team played very well to say the least. Tongue out - Well deserved win. Now, if we could just have a winning team - Browns - bah; Indians - pretty good last season; Cavs - pretty good as well.

Tonight I plan on running on the treadmill - plan being the key word here! The gym is so busy with the resolutioners. Today is warm here - in the high 50's. Feels like spring.

    Raye,

Your pictures are great!!!  Found them in another document we had (I thought) abandoned.  We need to get over these technical hurdles...I think the easiest way will be for me to update the dox myself...

I love your new hair...it looks so healthy.  I think shorter hair becomes you quite well!!

    Allyson,

Your time with the candidates sounds so exciting!

I wish I could get excited about the election but by the time the primary is held in WV, voting really becomes a formality because the candidates for both parties usually have the required votes to obtain the nomination.  Nevertheless, I always vote, even if my guy (or maybe this time my gal; I'm still undecided)is no longer a contender.

BTW: I think Raye is probably a Goddess.

    Puppy,

I have ABSOUTE faith in your ability to quit smoking.  Your body is already healthier, just for decreasing your intake.

    Mary,

Glad to hear that lunchtime yoga is a success.  I think I would like something like that; it would likely energize me for the afternoon.

Hopefully you will like the new sports circuit guy or gal.  I wish the former instructor a lot of luck with his new gym.  I know from experience that it is very difficult to run a profitable gym.  There are months where I feel like we are a "WV Works" project and a public service project.

    Mizzy,

Hope your shoulder is doing better.  Is there anyone who can actually function with Flexoril in their system.  It is a popular drug but it turns all my patients into fuzzy heads and most of them will only take it at night.

    Raye,

I too suffer from champagne taste on a beer budget; Barry and I like to look at boats.  I'm glad you had a good time.

I took a spinning class last night. It made me realize that I've been babying my workouts.  The woman teaching it is very impressive; smart, pretty and a serious triathlete. She was very motivating and I think tomorrow I may just kick my workout up a notch.

    Good night ladies!

Mizsissy- I am going to pm you my stats. Sounds like you are willing to post them on the google site for people. The main thing that stopped me is that I couldn't figure out how to create an new row.

Raye- I do like to change the avatar. "Obama" is laying low while she grows some more hair. Your hair does really look great.

Casey- The spinning sounds really great. I did a spinning class in 2001 when I was living in Buffalo for a year and loved it. Right now I'd probably collapse if I tried something like that but the desire is still there. I did walk about 3 miles yesterday and I'm wiped- still recovering from my Sunday in NH and getting back at midnight- WAY past my normal 8:30-9 bedtime.

BTW I am going to post a couple of NH pics but need Jim (husband) to help me. I'm not so hot with the technology of this stuff.

Puppy- hope the quit is going well. Keeping on trying was the key for me.

Mary- I think you and I are in about the same place in building up the running.

    Good Morning...

I just checked out the Google Group documents feature and it is horribly slow and difficult to use...I think it's best if we just go to one spreadsheet for everything...with separate pages for pix.  We did this in the Jan Chemo group and everybody caught on and was able to use it pretty easily.  Will set this up soon.

Mary & Allyson...on running.  I think the best way to get going is the run every OTHER day....running is hard on your body and when you are trying to build up your body needs a recovery day.  This is what I read in a book a long time ago when I got started.  I've been running 3-4 times a week now for about 15 years. You can walk or strength train on the non-running days.

Somehow I have gained 5 lbs since Jan. 1--HELP!!!  I think it was the week I went off Femara and took Tamoxifen Sealed but I really need to get going on dieting.  I have been exercising but it is not enough.  Think I'll start off with a few days of no bread or starches.

Do you know what my dear DH did this AM...he got up at 5 AM, drove to work at 7 to be there at 7:45, got there and realized he had picked up my glasses by mistake, drove home, dropped them off and gave me a kiss, and drove back to work...was 90 minutes late.  He didn't want me to miss my hair appt...!!!

    Catch up with you later...

MizS- post a hair pic so we can see how it turned out!  Thanks for the running advice.  I am a swimmer, and I find that running is very high impact on my aching joints!  I will take your advice of running every other day.  And your husband must be a sweetie!

I can totally relate to the champaigne taste on a beer budget.  I was just laughing yesterday with my husband about how our income has finally caught up with our level of consumption.  Now we need to start paying off our credit cards!

So, I want to do an ooph because of my BRCA2 status.  I went to my gyno and she really, really pressured me about having a total hysterectomy instead of just the ooph.  She told me I had a high risk of uterine cancer due to tamoxifen (which would only be true if I were non Caucasian and over 50). Then she checked me (ouch) and said my uterus was droopy anyway and should come out.  Then she starts talking about bladder leakage and sexual dysfunction and how those might not happen to me until way down the road.  I was pretty upset when I left.  I am going to my breast surgeon Monday to get a referral to a different gyno!

Let's all break a sweat today!  (Easy to do here right now- it's in the 70s!)

Mizsissy Thanks re: the running advice. Luckily (?) no danger of me doing it every day, twice a week is about it for me at this point. Yesterday I only walked and I am TIRED, but more from being a little behind on sleep than from any exercise I did. I plan to catch up tonight- already have gotten a head start with a nap. I am definitely recovering since finishing radiation on 12/18 but my energy level is up and down. I just go with what my body is telling me which tonight is "EAT AN ENTIRE CUP OF RAISINS WHILE SITTING AT THE COMPUTER, DON'T CLEAN THE HOUSE, GET JIM TO COOK DINNER, GO TO BED AT 8" (sorry my body has kind of a loud voice).

Mary- I'm with you on fleeing that doctor. I had a doctor (also a women interestingly- I thought we were better than that) try to sell me a bill of goods on why I should have thyroid surgery/ablation that I didn't need and tried to scare me with all this hypothetical stuff that could happen (but actually not until I'm 60 and I was 47 at the time).

On the weight loss/weight control front. I have had a lot of success using a combination of the Weight Watchers core plan in combination with The Beck Diet Solution (basically cognitive therapy for weight loss). I am starting to use the BDS with some of my therapy clients who have weight concerns and I recommend it highly. There's a book and a workbook. You can also google it to find the online resources.

Hopefully I'll have recharged the next time I come back here- have to work tomorrow so don't know how likely that is. Allyson

    Mary,

Wow; what a freaky, scary encounter with your physician.  I'm glad you're going to find another doctor. I didn't know 'droopy' was a medical problem and as far as I know, droopy doesn't necessarily lead to prolapse.  As a physician reminded me recently, "What do they call the person who graduated last in their medical school class?"

Your comment about income and credit cards reminds me that recently I have seen a lot more people giving credit cards to pay for food, gas, etc with the caveat, "That one might be maxed out, if so, I'll give you another."  I don't get the sense that it is about living beyond one's means but more about making the bills when gas and food prices seem to be going  up, up, up.

    Allyson,

Sometimes a loud voice is required.

I am headed to the beach tomorrow with it's intermittent internet connection.  It's my 44th (ack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) birthday on Saturday and my hubbie and I are going to "Woop it up!" or something like that.  January 13th is Gus's (the dog) first aniversary with us as his humans so we will celebrate that day too.  We will probably take him on a boat ride so he can try and eat the spray.

I worked out a little more aggressively today but negated any calorie burn with (and I know it sounds a little strange) acorn squash mixed with spinach ravioli and alfredo sauce. Hopefully I'll get in a decent ride or run/jog/slog one of my days.

    Have a great weekend ladies!

Yikes - one day of of the board and I've been left in the dust - meaning - a lot of catching up to do!

MizS - yes, what does your hair look like - post a pic Girl! I bet it looks lovely. While I am sure you are just beautiful the way you are; if you want to lose the weight, simply cut your calories. Has anyone read "Skinny Bitch?" Oh, is it funny, but the authors have some very good points - a very good read.

Mary - WTF (pardon me ladies), but jeez. Droopy uterus? Risk of uterine cancer? Yes, I'm with you, find another gynocologist. Does she listen to what you have to say? Bladder leakage you could have later on anyway from having children. So your step class was a toughy, eh? Yes, I used to do step all of the time - along with weights in my 20's - I  loved it, but it was difficult at first. The step class has a way of lifting one's ass nicely.

Allyson - you just finished rads on 12/18? Well, no wonder you are tired. That is ok. Get your rest, you'll be feeling more energetic before you know it. Speaking of Weight Watchers, I do use the Jenny Craig (am currently on it) - maybe two more weeks and then I am done - it is MUY EXPENSIVO! the thing I like about the plan is that is does teach you healty habits - watch portions being number one in my book.

Casey - happy Bday Saturday -  you certainly do not look 44, not that 44 is old- I'm not too far behind ya.

Ran 2.35 miles on Tuesday on the tready - going to do the same or hopefully more tonight and then some weight training.

Hey Gals...too busy today to spend much time here, but I wanted to stop in and let you know that I think posting the pix on the thread here is a great idea!!!  Raye just sent me links to her pictures on another thread and they're FAB!!    It's really not hard to do.  Raye, why not post 'em here?

Puppy is *VERY VERY SICK*!!!  She has a very bad case of Strep Throat; she can hardly talk, there is almost a complete membrane across her throat.  I talked to her this morning and she had an appointment around noon. We were supposed to talk this afternoon, but she is not back and I am wondering if she was hospitalized! Please send her healing thoughts and positive vibes!!!

Had my hair done...I have pictures of myself with the foils all over my head. Apparently I went from black to blond back to dark brown in a couple of hours, though all I got to see was the brown at the end, and since it was such a minor change, I wasn't too impressed.  I think it will lighten up through.

On my second day of diet, so far I'm down 1 1/2 pounds!

Got to go run, but will be back to check in later.

    Mizsissy
