I haven't given up on VA just yet.  Brenda(NC) is going to come up and check out my place and see if she thinks it would work out.  Also, have lots of hotels/motels about 2 miles away.  Greensboro airport is an hour away and I could help shuttle people.  What I don't have is access to borrow motor homes or campers.  I'll check out the rates of the motels and post them here.

These are the hotels right near me .. I checked rates using the dates of Fri. June 06/27/08 - Mon. 06/30/08, two dbl beds.

    Quality Dutch Inn, Collinsville, 2360 Virginia Ave, 276-647-3721 - $71 - 3 stars

    Knights Inn, Collinsville, 2357 Virginia Ave, 276-647-3716, $60 - 2 stars

Holiday Inn Express, Martinsville, 1895 Virginia AVe, $73 - 3 stars

Best Western, Martinsville, 1755 Virginia Ave., $88 - 3 stars

They all have smoking/non smoking rooms, pools, internet, continental breakfast, etc. and they're all right by each other for easy access.

I'll post some pics of my backyard and you guys tell me what you think!!

Back yard completely shaded in summer by pear, apple and large oak tree.  This part of the yard is fenced.

    Backyard driveway.

Front yard with gate to fields.

Fields with stream and turtles and stuff.

    Neesie,

A priceless vacation. Do I detect excitement in your post?

Tell you DH that you saved your Christmas money, he would never know the difference.

I would love to go to Alaska. I checked Indianapolis to Anchorage and the ticket was $536.00. Don't know what city DebC lives in.

Wow! - Greensboro to Anchorage round trip the end of June is over $1,000 for me ... guess that would leave me out.  I didn't have any Christmas money to save.  But, whatever you guys decide, I'll be with you in spirit.

I am a three hour drive from Anchorage, and I would be happy to drive to pick people up, or there are two small commuter airlines, ERA and Grant, that fly every hour or so to the Kenai airport a half an hour away from my house.

I would LOVE to have as many people as want to come, together or at different times, to visit, but I think the official Pinkstock should be somewhere people can drive in less than a week.  There are just too many people that can't swing the cost of the plane tickets....I know, I'm most likely not going to be able to spend the $ to fly down for the one this year.  I can only justify a "me, me, me" vacation every now and again.

If you really want to see even my little part of Alaska, the Kenai Peninsula, you will need a minimum of 8 to 10 days.  I would be happy to direct people to lower cost alternatives for sight seeing once here in Alaska....Or we can just sit in my yard and swat bugs **grin**

If you guys are really interested in flying up, let me know and I will put together a page of links so you can see what is available to do in my area.

Bren - I think the photos of your place look like it would be a super place for Pinkstock.  Lots of shade, people could bring campers etc....who knows, maybe I will gather up some extra money and make the trip myself...

I checked this morning and it was only $100 more to go to Anchorage than Bren's. If I go to Bren's or somewhere else east I could combine the trip to see my family in Central New York and/or Oklahoma. I would love to see Alaska though.

Let's go to Alaska.  We can go in the middle of August and it won't be HOT!

LOL!  Yeah, I remember that's what they said about New York too.  It was hotter than hades.

believe me...it would NOT be hot here!  I think the average temp in August is about 60 degrees....a HOT day would be 80.  Now, it might be cloudy, rainy, drizzly, BUGGY or windy...but even with global warming I am willing to bet no one would think it was hot...LOL

I am more than willing to host a get together....as far as weather, the end of July or early August is better weather than June.  We can still have frosty nights in June.

Wouldn't they also get to see the northern lights up there in August?

Nope....it is too light at night.  The northern lights are still there, but you really can't see them until September or October when the lights are darker....

Bren...looks like you have a great place....and many can make it .. as far as resources....lol.... I knocked on doors of people who had campers in their yards.. some I didn't even know ...lol.. and most were very willing to loan...I promised clean sparkly campers in return... and even repaired some...lol.. I just asked everyone in my area...even stood in Tops parking lot (at a car show) and hollered... got a real nice 5th wheel...lol.. or known as the condo....a lot of people said no... but now I have a list of references for next time... I contacted my local boy scouts. or even a church group.... to see what they had to offer... a great sun tent  and they may need service projects... I begged food...and got lots.. local restaurant gave pancakes & Syrup for about a 100.. and free turkeys... please know the best resource you have IS YOU.... and no one needs fancy...lol.. we ate sandwiches one day... oh yeah and pizza....lol...

Deb, I know we would all love to come...maybe pinkstock08 cont...in Alaska.... and yeah not too warm... that's what I thought too... who ever expected 95 degrees in NY....lol....

    hugs..

and anyone who needs information call me... PS the kids (DIL) said they would come and help....as long as its not "when" Andy cooks at the olympics...keeping fingers crossed.. he said he'd come too...

    Hi Pinkstockers!

First..........as much as I would love to go to Alaska............I was just joking around last night.  It would be out of reach for to many and a long trip for 3 or 4 days!!

I think Bren's set up and offer in Virginia is a great choice..............if she is up to it!! (are you up to it, Bren?)

I kinda liked the idea of 80 degrees versus' 60 degrees in summer anyhow!!

Now, we just all have to make a final decision and figure out a way to make Deb realize that she just HAS to come this year too!!

    Hugs,

    Neesie

    Gals,

I'm a little nervous.  Mr. Tim is freaking out a lot.  He's worried about portapotties, tents, campers and MONEY.  All I need is a tractor and I can be ready in a week! Surprised

I need to call MB this weekend.  The end of June is the best time here.  The weather is great.

I'll let everyone know by the end of the week.

    Thanks, love ya

To all you gals who have given your support to me having Pinkstock at my house ... I want to thank you.

But something has come up and for personal reasons, I have to bow out.  I aplogize and hope this gives you enough time to find someone else.  I hope to be able to check in when I can and I'll keep working on the Memorial March.

    Thanks and much love,

    Bren

MB If it turns out at your house again, I would be willing to do things like and cook and clean.  Maybe we could each have shifts where we have to wrok....er...wrot.....er....work.... I could even come early and help.

    neesie same for you.

we could buy pizza and go out to eat rather than putting so much work on the hostess.

I'll even get up early and make the coffee.

If the 2008 festivities are at MB's house, make sure you follow the directions that she provides to her house. If you use a GPS, you end up in the middle of a corn field! (I learned this the hard way!)
