Hi Everybody!
I hope you all enjoyed some food and fun with your families. I am back at work now, although the office is a bit of a ghost town today. We had a great Christmas. The kids only got in one fight all day!
Carol, good luck this week. Are you having surgery on the 28th or is it just an appointment? You are in my thoughts.
Puppy, you are one beautiful woman! It is great to see a photo of you.
Mizsissy, I tried to go blonde with the Nice and Easy, and I am now a redhead. My husband made me promise that from now on I will leave the hair coloring to the professionals. That is a lovely card. I spent a summer in Norwich, Vermont studying Russian. I would love to see it in the winter time.
Raye, you have been gone a long time. How are you?
Cathy, great family photo. The dog in the Santa hat is great. And look how fast Wallydoodle is growing! Your son is adorable, and I can't believe all the hair you have!
Dottie, I hear you had snow on Christmas day in Seattle. Were you there for it?
Casey, hope your husband catches a big one and comes back home early!
I decided to start training for the Race for the Cure 5k run in April. So on Monday I did a 5Y. (Yes, that's 5 yards!) I took off Tuesday, but I'll be back out there tonight.
My best to you all.
Mary

Mary,
So you tried Nice 'n Easy too. I was told this was a metallic dye that you can't remove except with very drastic chemicals like bleach. So far nothing has worked for me and I've dried harsh shampoos, baking soda, peroxide, and dish soap. Maybe we should start a thread somewhere called beware of Nice n Easy, or rename it to someting like Dicey & Nasty!!!
I'll show you mine if you'll show me yours!!!!
if I can bear to be photographed
However, I believe your problem isn't easy to handle than mine. Puppy told me you can buy some Fancifree tints to correct redness...anything with a dull ash or green cast I would imagine (green + red = neutral) or even blue if your hair is orange looking (orange + blue = neutral).

Hello Everyone!
Sorry, I've been gone a bit (had a few days off of work, busy with Christmas preparations).
I hope everyone had a very happy holiday (although it's not over yet!!!!)
Oh shoot, I am now on a new page and cannot reread the posts, so I will have to respond by memory - yikes.
Casey, so glad your husband is home! Sounds like you had a nice holiday. The brownies are making me hungry. Been eating like a piggie this week and have a cute (!?) jiggly belly when I walk. sweet.
Mary, thanks for posting the article on triple negs. I have yet to read it, will do so here in a bit. Hurray to you for going without your wig!
Cathy, The family photo is wonderful.
Puppy, (whistling) - you are gorgeous! What a nice picture of you and your hubby! I hope you are well. Congrats on the laptop!
MizSissy - I love the photos of the snow and the pic of the Vermont landscape. I used to live near VT and loved the country. So beautiful.
Carol - best wishes to you. I am so sorry you have to go through this, with everything you've already been through. You're in my thoughts. Hang in there girl, you're strong - don't forget that!
Dottie - I gained weight as well - ugh. Starting fresh today. We bought a gym for the basement (I just need to paint the basement before the gym arrives). Need to tone up this bod.
Good to hear from everyone. MizSissy, how do I post a pic? I would like to send you one maybe and you can post it for me? I am in mourning for my long hair, as we all are - but we are HERE!!!!
Love you all!
Raye
-
OK, gals, it's show & tell time. Let's see YOUR pictures..Raye, Carol?
-
Hi all,
What lovely pictures you all posted since I last checked in... Puppy, nice to meet you in person
and Cathy, great family card!! Mizzy, your snow is very pretty! Yes, Mary, we got a little snow on Christmas day, while we were in uptown Seattle at BIL's. It melted just in time to drive home that evening. Whew! Seattle people don't know how to drive in snow or ice. Sometimes they just park along the interstate and leave their car... even if there's only a half-inch of snow! Good lord... So my inlaws left this morning after six days. We loved having them, but DH worked Monday & Wed so I was their "entertainment" ... we mostly sat and visited and watched a lot of TV. And ate cookies.
But I DID go to my first-ever Yoga class yesterday and boy, am I sore today! I hope to go tomorrow too, and sure wish they offered it on weekends. I was off this week so able to catch the class. I've been wanting to for months.
Mizzy -- those color combos don't sound "neutral" to me, but I've never used a home-color product. And if I ever do, I sure won't pick Nice n Easy, that's for sure! Mary, are you staying a redhead? I'm going to salon tomorrow for blond highlights and maybe the slightest little trim.
Carol, please let us know how your appointment goes tomorrow... praying that all is healing well!
Let me also add that it's been a pleasure getting to know all of you on this board, and we sure owe ourselves a happy 2008, even if the extra pounds are hanging on... at least WE're hanging on! Here's a big new year's (((HUG))) to each of you!! Dottie
-

Hi everybody!
Sounds like everyone is having a good holiday. I've been eating and drinking anything I so desire. Chocolate is at the top of the list and last night I had some girlfriends over since my "boys" are out of town. We drank margaritas (I'm a terrible bartender!!!LOL) and played the Wii. Stayed up way too late and today I'm veging around the house. I hope to get out later today to go to my favorite health food store so I can get inspired to get back on a healthy diet. I've been walking occasionally with a friend during the holidays. My ds is out of school this coming week so I won't be getting back into the swing of things until the first full week of Jan. 2008.
I second Dotti's comment about getting to know everyone on this post. It has been a pleasure and hope we keep it up in '08. I'm sending lots of wishes, hope and the best of health in 2008 to all.
Happy New Year

Hi, shaper-uppers, it's time to get with the program for 2008. For ME, that is. I had stopped in here a few months ago, then got "side-tracked" as it were. Well, I'm baaaack.
Okay, let's cut to the chase. What diet and exercise program works INSTANTLY? WHAT? Yes, that's what I want, instant results. LOL Having DH give me a pound of Godiva's for Christmas hasn't been helping at all.........
So, I guess it's back on the wagon for me. I want to lose about 10 pounds within the month so I can have my implant exchanged for a smaller size. What a goal, right? I remember the days when I longed for big boobs and here I am saying I want to be smaller again. I've discovered that ever-so-bigger boobs, even though still small by most counts (34B) make me look matronly. I hate it!!!
Well, I'm counting on you girls for some awsome hints and to keep me on the straight and narrow.
Wishing you an absolutely fabulous and slightly naughty 2008.
The very best wishes,
Tina

Hi Tina...
Nice to have you back!!! Sorry I wasn't able to give you a warmer welcome last August...but I was on vacation. I've read your posts around on other threads and I think you've got a lot of knowledge to contribute here.
Hey, we're all ready to go here with our New Year's goals. PM me your email and I'll sign you up so you can post your stats and pix privately if you like (though most everybody seems to post pix here).
Robbin Jaye, so nice to hear from you, but we'd like to SEE more of you!!
Thomcat, hope your day after the day after is better than yesterday...loved your family Christmas card.
Dottie, Marygla so nice to hear from you. I agree totally now about going to the pros for hair color. But one thing I do understand about color from being an artist is that complementary colors (the ones opposite each other on the color wheel) neutralize each other; for example, green tones down red, blue tones down orange and vice versa...
Casey, hope your husband is still with you..how you must miss him!!!
Raye, it's so nice to find someone else who loves Vermont as I do...where DID you live?
Carol...we want to know how things are going...you're welcome here anytime to cry, moan...this isn't just a workout room
!
Puppy...yes, the in-laws left this AM and I'm not tired...just liberated....the hotel is closed for the remainder of the winter....can't wait to get out and see a little bit of the outside after being chained to the house!!
EVERYBODY, get your New Year's resolutions ready...we've just got one more day before it starts!!!
Mizsissy

Happy almost New Year everyone!
Hear's to a happy and healthy 2008 for all!!!
We brought a home gym for Christmas, so I can do some strength training (running isn't doing it for me anymore as far as firming). My husband set it up in the basement on Saturday and I covered it with two sheets and painted the basement a pretty medium colored blue -"Refuge" by Sherwin Williams - now I want to bring some lifelike fake plants down to give the room some softness and life.
Godiva! I ate a ton during the holidays as well. Got on the scale this am, up 3 lbs. oh well. I really don't even care.
Tina - I understand your feelings about the larger 34B's. My prostheses are 34B and I sometimes feel like Pam Anderson in them if I have a tight shirt on - I am used to having 34A's. I am thinking of getting smaller ones. Reminds me of when I was in Mexico, got a mixed drink, tipped well, went back for another and he put way too much alcohol in it. I asked him to make another one with less alcohol and he thought I was nuts. "Senorita, no one has ever asked me to to that."
MizSissy - I used to live across Lake Champlain in New York State - way upstate - Plattsburgh. Beautiful place and beautiful people.
Hi Pup, Cathy, Carol (How ARE You - worried, hope all is well), Casey, Dottie and Mary - hope you are all well.

You can do it - give up the cigs! Nothing like the pot calling the kettle black, as I smoke sometimes too!
Not everyday, but it was getting to the point where I was having AT LEAST one per day - not good. Then I'd go out with the girls and have several - ugh.
I hadn't smoked for a long time, then was dx'd and started again. Quit during chemo, radiation (a big no no with rads) and then this fall, slowly started it again! grrr. I haven't had a cigarette since Christmas Eve - almost a week now. YOU CAN DO IT PUP!!! We can support each other.
xoxo
Raye
-
OMG...you mean we have TWO smokers here?!!!
In a healthy SPA forum?? Eeeeks!!! We're gonna help you gals and tomorrow is the day...
I want you to know that I smoked for twenty years and nineteen of those years I wanted to quit, but I thought I never could, but I did, and so can you. First of all, you have to get over that guilty feeling you have about not quitting...forgive yourselves, give yourselves a little pat on the back and listen to a voice inside you that gently says, "Yes I can," and you can.
The first day will be rough...the second day a little rougher. Days 3 or 4 will be the hardest but if you really want to quit, you'll get through it, and then it still start getting easier.
Here's a little assignment for the two you:
1. Get out a pencil and paper and write down ten (or more) reasons why you want to quit. Keep this list handy for future reference next week.
2. Tonite, before you go to sleep, READ THE LIST OUTLOUD TO YOURSELF. Then, say outloud again to yourself "I want to quit smoking". Say this ten times every night right before you go to sleep. This is a form of self hypnosis and believe me, it works!
We're here for you this week, the week after this week, you'll be FORMER SMOKERS!!
Mizsissy
PS...Jasmine, nice to see you here...you have any goals this year? We're here to help.
-
Yes, I have a goal for this year, thanks for asking.
I'm going to the local community center today to sign up once again. My goal is to just start walking again whether I lose the weight or not. As Fitchick said on another thread, even if I don't lose this weight, I am still investing in my health. I really hope I can commit this time.
-
Hi, Puppy and all. Tamox? Well, I don't take it so can contribute nada. Let's talk about something I do know: sitting on my butt instead of being out walking. Need motivation. Maybe a whack on the side of the head.
Mizsissy, that technique for quitting smoking might just help me in losing those 10 pounds. Thanks for the idea.
Ooops, snowed 10 inches last night. Cannot walk in the road today. Good excuse, right? Wrong. Would like to jump rope but no where to do it in the snow. Give me a push!!! I'm incorrigable. (sp??)
Tina
-
Tina, have you considered getting one of those exercise trampolines (small) instead of jumping rope? Its much easier on the knees and feet.
I have one that I use while watching TV when I'm being really motivated.
-
Tina...you've got a great head...you're right. I didn't even THINK of that!! I'm going to make a list today, and I'm going to lose that ten pounds if it's the last thing I do!!!
Jasmine...great to have you here! Walking is wonderful exercise. I think exercise should be enjoyable, and I just love being outside. You know, I think a lot of us have forgotten how important that old saying is about "getting a breath of fresh air." When I get outside in the winter, when the air is cold and oxygen is dense, I come in with rosy cheeks feeling more energetic and rejuvenated.
Tina has also started a very interesting thread on makeup tips...I've haven't had a chance to read it all, but I want to go back and read it more carefully.
Off to Krogers....getting stuff for the party tonite!
Mizsissy
-
Raye, OH Sweet Sis, I am already scared about this!
Sorry You too have to go through this, "BUT" at the same time thinking how happy I am having a partner to help each other!
Tina, sorry!! It was the fabulas makeup thread (I think
)
Jaz, HAHA, can see ya now jumping on that thing!!LOL
Well thank you all for the go ahead, I am very thankful to have you
Puppy
-
Raye, Puppy (& Ed),
You have our full support in this. Puppy, don't be too worried about not having the $400 prescription meds you mentioned to me....if I quit cold turkey you can. The meds help, but while you stop smoking you remain reliant on nicotine. If you quit without the meds, you'll detox quicker. The cravings will be strong, but if the will is strong, it will actually diminish the cravings...I don't know why this works but IT DOES, and you'll get over your physical dependence much more quickly.
Mizsissy

Good Morning Spa Girls and Happy New Year...
Raye & Puppy (& Ed)...today is your big day. Today is the your first day of being a nonsmoker and today is your first step towards liberating yourselves completely of that awful monkey that has been on your back!!! We are here to support you.
Did you make your list? Did you read it outloud??
This week, if any of you feels like you are getting close to breaking down, take some deep breaths, read your list, go for a walk, get on your exercise bike, drink a glass of water. And if you get really desperate, call a friend. Do ANYTHING BUT smoke that cigarette. You HAVE NOTHING TO FEAR except years of wonderful clean air and oxygen to look forward to. Raye, I am PMing you my phone number... Puppy, you have it.
Have yall made your resolutions? I'm going to post mine later today. I don't care what Jackie (workout) says...I think resolutions work. I've made mine every year, and it is very gratifying to look back and see that many of them were kept and actually made a difference in my life.
To a much happier and healthier year...we are most of us through, or almost through treatment, and we have so much to look forward to!!!
Mizsissy
PS...Raye, that is so cool that you lived in Plattsburgh; my mother's family came from that city; they all grew up there. My father's family came from across the lake, in middle Vermont.
-
Always, that's very intriguing about the trampoline. But, aren't they dangerous? What should we look out for if buying and using one? I am about as graceful as a gazelle with two broken legs. BUT I'm willing to try............
Smoking: I smoked in my younger days. Especially loved OP's (other people's) after I "quit" smoking and no longer bought my own. Cheesh, when I was with a friend who smoked it was hard not to bum one, then two, etc. Much cheaper, too.
I can remember playing cards (mostly double pinochle), drinking too much beer and smoking all night with this particular other couple. Boy, did we have fun!
Finally, I realized that I hated that burnt feeling in my throat the morning after smoking a pack. Knew it couldn't be doing me any good if it was already making me feel so bad. PLUS, if I smoked alone, which I rarely did!, it made me dizzy. I guess I was a social smoker.
One day I just decided to give it up entirely. Cold turkey. Wanted to be smoke-less more than I wanted to smoke. It was a positive decision.
After that, when I was with this certain friend (who smoked), I might have a few ciggybutts with her, then went home and never gave it a thought the next day or until the next time I saw her. I think that even though I might smoke a pack a day when I was really into it, I was never really addicted. Either that or it is truly mind over matter. Either way, I haven't smoked in so many years I cannot remember the last time I did.
I've printed out Mizsissy's "rules" and will be making my list today. It will be posted in a couple of strategic locations around the house and maybe on my dashboard, too. My darn car just loves to drive me through Dunkin Donuts.
Tina
-
HAHA Tina, how funny!
RAYE, Ya there?? Guess what I think I will be able to do this after all
I have no desire for a cig!! just having a problem with what to do with my holding one all the time! looked at my coffee cup, and thought hmmm, something is missing! I know It will hit me soon!
But like tina just said, Mind over Matter!
Mizsissy, Telling myself, 10 times really helped!
somehow, It made me strong!
Cathy, How about them "DUCKS" What a game!!
well off to spend the day with family, May this Year be the Best!
xoxoxoxo to all
Puppy

Tina, I don't have any trouble and I'm famous for falling off high heels when I used to wear them, running into door frames, etc. I got mine at walmart years ago and its pretty sturdy. It was only about $20 or less. Very inexpensive. I don't jump very high so I've never had any issues with staying on it. The little ones aren't like the big backyard trampolines in that they don't rebound as strongly. The benefit doesn't come from how high you jump but from how long you can work up to and getting your heart rate up. I don't jump any high than I did when I jumped rope.
-
Good morning...glad to see you gals checking in, and Puppy and Raye, we're here all day for you!!
Tips on those what to do with myself, my hands problem: Do something else with 'em, like crochetting, knitting, playing piano, washing dishes...DRAWING..
Another idea: rearrange the living room so your favorite chair is in a different place...if you sit where you're used to smoking you'll get lots of "I need a cigarette cues"...Turns those cues off by avoiding places where you're used to smoking, and going to places where you can't smoke (the bathtub?, the BED?, with your DH
???!!! etc.) What the heck, it's New Year's DAY!!!!
Remember: it is just that ONE cigarette you are avoiding. IF you smoke IT, you will have to worry about the next few thousand packs of 'em that you'll smoke.
XXXOOO Mizsissy
-
Mizsissy, Such good ideas! You are Wonderful with all the Help
You give US! and Love, thank You!
HMMM, "DRAWING" A wonderful Sister has made sure I can do my
Charcoal Drawing(Sketches) again! Gonna move My chair in my sun room, and DRAW!!!
Jaz, that sounds easy to do! I thought you were talking about the big one! also, when I take walks, I KICK My legs in front of me, really
helps jiggle the fat away!

Happy New Year Ladies!
I just accidently deleated my post; gosh I HATE when I do that!
I will be back later to say hello; Barry is trying to rush me out the door to cut firewood.
-
Happy new year everyone. Hello Tina and Jasmine. Thanks for adding all the smiles to this board. And hi Raye! Casey! Puppy! Mizzy! Cathy! Mary! Boy, this page filled up in a hurry!
I was at the neighbor's until almost 2 a.m. Drank lots of wine and champagne but we had breakfast at 12:30 so we'd all sleep better! So I'm just crawling out of the sack... Football games are boring, I could have gone golfing with some of the girls cuz it finally stopped raining, but it's blowing 30 mph or more and not that warm, so I'll just stay in.
I did a 90-minute marathon at the gym yesterday morn -- 30 mins weights, 30 abs & gluts, and 30 spin. All on a sprained ankle that I twisted last week and it's still puffy... probably not smart... so today is couch potato day. And back to work tomorrow after 12 days off... arrrgh...
Haven't thought much about resolutions ----- just stay healthy and enjoy every day... don't want too much pressure. Today I'm certainly in a better place than I was last Jan. 1... I hope all of you are too! HUGSZZZZZZZZZ to all! Dottie
