    Hi,

Got my keyboard fixed- no missing l-s. But another hair question less esthetic. I am on Aromasin. I seem to be getting fuzzy facial hair in the pattern of Lincoln's beard. My kids could not believe the line of fuzz that curves down my face around my chin. It is light fuzz like a lion's mane? I wonder if I have too much androgen or testosterone. I think that is bad for er+ women. Anyone with this? I am not talking about chin hair or upper lip!!! Beth

honeygirl....You should get some idea very soon how your hair will come in, but my experience is that the first year doesn't necessarily predict subsequent years. My hair came in thick and wavy, but by now is back to my original (pre-chemo) straight and fine. So if you're hoping for straight, give it some time. Any hair is pretty awesome though, isn't it?!

Yes Marin , any is Absolutely awesome!

Hi Beth , just wanted to share my experience with you. I had the same thing , all over my face and ears! Its sort of like what babies are sometimes born with and it falls out. I gave mine some help , and used my eyebrow shaver and it never came back. But my chin and "mustache" hairs are still there!lol This happened to me after I finished my 4 a/cs of chemo.

About the facial hair. It's called lanugo and I know of it growing after chemo when your regular hair starts to re-grow. But Beth, how long have you been done with chemo? If not too long, it's exactly that and what honeygirl describes. It's common among neonates. I had it twice after chemo and I, too, shaved it off. Other women have used Nair, but I should think that that burns!

This needs a bump...Also, I thought that this article on vitamins and supplements that assist in hair growth was interesting. Of course, if you're doing chemo, most oncs will tell you to lay off all this stuff, especially the antioxidants, while being treated.

    Marin,

just a cursory look had some misinformation. The new RDA for Vit A for women is under 3,000 IU. Most multis are higher in A than current recomendations esp since some A does come from an ordinary diet. Beth

I'm sure that you're right about vitamin A, Beth. That's one vitamin I watch out for in order to avoid taking too much. For hair (and nails), it's really the biotin that can get top billing, IMO. My hair has never been this thick before and it grows very quickly!

    Newter,

Sorry I didn't see your post til just now...

You look great!  Maybe there is hope for me yet...

But I must confess, a few weeks ago, I went wigless...  Went on a motorcycle ride with my dh, and when I took off my helmet, the scarf fell off...so, I just marched into the restaurant with our friends, and sat down... It was scary!  My friends said that I looked great, but what are they gonna say?

I think if it wasn't so COLD outside, I may ditch the wigs sooner.  My hair is now about 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 inches, and TOTALLY GRAY!!! YIKES!  I don't want to color it til April, when it will be SIX months post chemo, since I read that we should wait.

    Thanks

    Harley,

I waited about 6 months to color mine too.  It has been colored twice now and I will probably do it again soon.   Have you checked out some gentle temporary colors?

Funny, I never owned a scarf.  I went through 3 wigs and the best one I had was the cheap one from the American Cancer Society catalog.

Good luck on your quest for more hair.  I still stress out about mine and I pull on it sometimes to make sure it is not coming right out.  I think I am a lot more traumatized now than while I was going through it.

    Newter,

Thanks!  I usually wear wigs, but riding the motorcycle, the helmet won't fit right if I wear a wig.  So, I have these scarves that I tie around my head to cover up.

Funny, I have been pulling my hair, too, just to make sure it is going to stay put!  lol   I have an underactive thyroid, and prior to bc tx, I had thinning hair due to the thyroid condition.  I think it feels better now, and I haven't seen any hair falling out...but I keep checking anyway.  Cool

Oh harley...you've touched on a subject that's been crossing my mind.  I finished chemo on Jan 31/08.  I start rads on Mar 04/08. I too ride and for the fun of it, I tried my helmet on the other day.  It is too large.  I bought an insulated skull cap and it helps so am hoping things change before the riding season starts here in Ontario Canada.

    Nicky,

I have been busy on other threads, but I'm BACK!  I had the opposite problem.  I think my helmet may fit better now, because when I had long hair, I used to put it up with a barrette on my head, and then the helmet would give me headaches!!

Yes, you'll be riding again soon!!  Spring is almost here!

    Happy Spring everyone!

    Newter,

I gave up and colored my hair last week!  I think I like it, and I don't mind the shortness as much.  I think I am getting used to it.

Today is my ONE year bc anniversary!!  My biopsy was on 3/15/2007 and my surgeon got ALL of it!  When I had the bi-lateral mastectomy, the pathology report came back ALL NORMAL...

Hope everyone can go out and enjoy the spring like weather we've been having!  We are going to a St Patricks Day festival at a local winery...

I see that the thread is dated but ... it was fun for me to read through. I am just 3 weeks post my last chemo treatment and still, well, maybe could say have baby fuzz ... I want to go with "fast" growth but looks like I just have to be patient and let my body do whatever it will.

So - in a way - this is a bump to "active" for others who, like me, may be interested.
