Hair growth pictures
I believe each picture is about 1 weeks growth.

O, Newter! Thank you so much for finding that again! I posted it in the first place, way back when I was bald and kept it going by bumping it up (under "Help Me Get Through Treatment') alot. At some point, it seemed to have become lost, or so I thought and I searched all over my hard drive and even googled Karin Stack (but thought it was 'Karen') to no avail. You found it though..YAY!!!
-
oh thank you, Newter! and thank you to whoever sat down every week for a photo of her hair growth ... it is so very encouraging to see that my 16-weeks after last chemo very short and unspectacular hair is just NORMAL ... It bugs me that is so determined to go its own way, wrapping to my head in its own preferred sort of swirl pattern, and with these odd little bits that stick up here and there ... sort of like a licked calf ! Gotta laugh, as crying is not an option
From the pics I can see that another 16 weeks of growth will bring me REAL HAIR ... with a shine to it!
I've bookmarked that page, so that I can go compare whenever I get the "hair blues"
May the sweet Fairy of Hair smile upon us all ...
Delina -
Fitchik, I actually came across it by accident while browsing the YoungSurvival board. I loved it and had never seen it on this board before.
Yes, Delina, I need that fairy very badly. -
Yes! I love that. I have it saved to my favorites and view it when I get down about the hair.
My is swirly, with no bangs and no shine, very matte looking. But hey, it's hair!

Karin Stack, btw, is a photo-journalist who, when diagnosed (can't recall what type of cancer?), decided to chronicle her re-growth.

Loved that site when I was growing my hair back....let us try to bump this up for the newbies...

I love these. Every week? That is so cool. I will be having chemo for six months so I am thinking starting October I can look and compare!
-
NS, I will try to keep bumping this so it does not disappear. Good luck with the chemo.

I have my DH or DD take my pic every month on the 6th to mark the growth of my hair since chemo - the first month was just by chance as we were at a party and DH and I had our pic taken together. then at month 2 post chemo, took a pic and have done so each month. I am now 9 months post chemo and my hair is about 3" long. Still soft. One day a few months ago a friend commented that I would have to cut my hair at some point to style it - don't remember what I responded to her, but I came home and told my DH about it and said I don't have to do anything I don't want to. My hair did look a little cuter a couple months ago, but I am not ready to have a hair cut. Not sure if/when I will cut my hair. I was growing it long prior to Dx so may just grow it long again. Who knows!!! One day, I will gather up all my pics and put together a collage of how I looked throughout Tx and growing back hair. I think I will keep up the picture taking till my one year post chemo anniversary.

When I was going throught treatment I wanted nothing to do with pictures. I looked horrible when I lost my eyebrows and lashes and was bald and really did not want to remember it. Now that I made it through treatment and my hair is growing, I kind of wish I had taken pictures of everything although I would probably have a hard time looking at some of them. I had a hard time looking in the mirror without my wig, made me really squeamish.
We got a new camera about 2 months ago and that is my first picture of myself since dx, with hair about 1 inch. I am now trying to capture the progress. -

bump (newter, where are you?) -
I'm here, I'm here, I was just giving it a couple more days.
-
Oh, newter, I know how it is! Slow...but certain!
It's been over a year now that I have hair and I never fail to be grateful each and every day for it. It's been windy here lately and I soooooo love feeling my hair swirling around my neck! Before going bald, wind used to just annoy me because it messed my hair up.
Hang in there, everyone....soon you'll be loving the wind too!!!!

Marin, I actually went to see a hairdresser today to see if she could make my hair look like I went and had it deliberately cut and not the "default do" that is coming in. When she tried to curl it or put gel in it, it would not do anything and she told me I need about another month of growth before I could get it to do what I want and she did not want to cut anything. So frustrating. I have about 2.5 inches.
I am still wearing the wig when I leave the house but trying to work up the guts to go without. -

Gel is about to become your best friend. Try to play around with it and learn how to spike your hair in a fun, attractive way, even if you're not ready to 'go topless' in public yet. The spiked or 'waif-boy' look is what most of us start out with...it'll earn you the 'cute' and 'perky' comments for some time to come!

Same here-hair growth about an inch, and I'm determined to have it colored BACK to my brunette this coming week...as it's grown in all gray/white/dark underneath...yeah, can't really 'style' it, just mousse it up and 'messy' looking looks good!! Anybody grew hair on their FACE????? WOW...like a fine white down that was getting longer and longer til my boyfriend shaved it off!!! THAT was weird!
Nurses at chemo said hair would grow in fast, NOT....growing slowly, but filling in at least...I PREFERRED being bald actually..did NOT want a wig, bleah...with hot flashes???? induced-menopause....NO hair is best, but I'll take shorter hair now, not the long like I used to have. Have fun with your hair, women! ~juli~ -
This is such a funny thread. I know all about post-chemo hair having a life of its own. I have discussions about my hair with the deli owner, the bank teller, the pharmacist--all women. After them seeing me bald for months and months, it's a hoot watching this unmanageable mess come back.
And yes, the fine white facial hair that was growing faster than my head head. I shaved it, and my dermalogist sold me this really pricey ($60 for 30g) cream called Vaniqa to reduce that hair growth, and that did seem to help.
My husband went into the hospital late in August 2006 for liver failure. A couple days later, I was sitting reading the paper with the window behind me and he woke up and said "you've got hair!" I laughed because it had been a week that I had noticed it, but I hadn't said anything.
The eyebrows and eyelashes came in really fast, although the eyelashes were a little irritating as the grew in. -
I usually post this when the question of the post-chemo facial hair comes up....it's called 'lanugo' and is just like the fine hair that covers premature infants for a time. Our hair is indeed in its infant stages as well at this time. The stuff can be removed (I had to do it twice) but, eventually, will just fall out on its own.

Ugh - hair growth.....
Hey Newter, how are you doing with the wig thingy? I looked at the pictures tonight and I am probably on the 28th picture but 29 weeks out of chemo. HOWEVER, my hair is coming straight out of my head (straight up) and then curling like a poodle's - UGH! I have no clue what to do with this. Then, to top it all off, I have a horrible cowlick right on the top of my head in the back left-hand corner - no curl - just sticks straight up.
I had straight dirty-blond hair before and now I have the permed-poodle look that is dark brown and gray! It makes me look soooooooooooo old!!! And, I still only wear my hair out at home, otherwise it is my faithful, stretched-out wig (which I am sure I will be wearing to my son's graduation in two weeks for the family pictures.......) I want my old hair back!!!
I hope you are seeing some progress. Let me know when you get brave enough to wear your hair out and maybe I will try it too.....:)
Cheryl -
This post is great. I was sooo worried about the fine hair on my face. It was freakin me out. Great to know that eventually it will subside. As for the hair on my head it is taking so long. I'm 4 mos out and it is still so short.

HI YOU WONDERFUL GROUP OF PEOPLE!!
QUESTION?? DID ANYBODY HAVE PEACH FUZZ REGROWTH INSTEAD OF NORMAL HAIR? IF SO, WILL IT FALL OUT AND BE REPLACED WITH NORMAL HAIR?? PLEASE, SEND PM'S........MANY THANKS
ERIKA -
My wig specialist recommended shaving the peach fuzz and then real, good hair will grow in its place. I didn't do that and I have a lot of hair now.
The cowlicks..I had those bad at the beginning but now they are gone! HOw weird is that? -
I am 30 weeks out and my hair growth is at about the 28 week photo. Also the gray poodle look. My lashes are good now, but my eyebrows are not so good....they are patchy and still 'bald' in spots. Did anyone have this problem? I asked the nurse at the breastcare center (who has had bc herself) and she suggested having them tattoed (sp?) That made me worry that she thinks they will not grow anymore. I always had thick eyebrows.
-
Cheryl,
Well, I am still wearing the wig and I have been practicing with wax, gel, mousse, etc. Nothing really helps. I have that poodle curl and I hate it. Sometimes I think my hair looks better flattened by my wig in a pixie like do. As for wearing my hair "out", baby steps here. I will go out for the mail or call the kids in but that is as far as it goes.
I might just give up the wig this weekend because the heat is bothersome and may push me over the edge of not caring anymore. At least last summer when I was wearing a wig, I was bald underneath and the heat was not as noticable. Now with my hair growth, whew, hot hot hot.
Please keep me updated on your progress, I loved hearing from you.
For anyone else that had to hear me whine about other hair:
I want to report that my lashes and eyebrows have improved. I plucked my eyebrows this weekend for the first time and it actually hurt. That means they are sticking better in my head. I am prepared to go through another cycle of losing them or having them thin after reading posts but I am also hoping the Synthroid I was put on is making a difference.

These pictures of hair growth are great, but there was another site of the stages taken by one of the girls on one of these discussion boards. They were colored pictures, taken from different angles, and were so cool, but I have searched everywhere and can not seem to find them--anyone know???
-
I found the site I was asking about. It is the best I have seen so far. The password to enter album is "bcsisters".
