I have been having more trouble than the first tx this time with my second. No energy. I tried to go to work and came home a blubbering mess. I am going to try again tomorrow. I keep thinking of Karyll saying she's working the entire time. I have a lot of respect for you doing what you have to do.
Glad to hear from Sharon again. I think all of us were getting worried. Glad you're back among us, but sorry your levels dropped so low. I understand about the fatigue, all I want to do is lie on the couch. The cooking channel gals are my new friends, although I think their food sounds good for another day.
My head has a rough stubble also. I'm thinking that it will get smooth as the stubble falls out??? I wear a thin stocking hat at home, but wear my wig out of the house. Maybe this spring when the weather is warmer and I'm more used to this dx I will brave the bare head or bandana. Right now I'm still wishing it would all go away.
MeandPC I had my husband read your post. You put into words how I feel so well. He said he could tell that's where I was with this whole thing. I have my third tx the 20th. I hope I can enjoy my family for Christmas. My daughters will have to step up some to make it all work. I know what you mean about dreading the tx. They did give me some Ativan to calm me down before treatments; hope it will help.
I think of you all often and say a prayer that you are coping well and it won't be so tough. We have to be as brave as possible and get through this to the other side of chemo. The oncologist said many tolerate the taxol better; I hope that's right for us.

Hey everyone
Susan I know what you mean by the wig. I wear mine to work and out of the house. When I am home I am with a beenie. I go for my 3rd treatment on Thursday. I can already feeling the taste and smell of things and I haven't even done it yet. I just hate to do this again. The good new is I will only have one more of the A/C. I just hope I feel better by Xmas.
Has anyone had any se of the hands shaking. When I am typing my hands are shakey it is not all the time but i have just started to notice it.
Wish everyone the best!

Georgia's Mommy,
Hang in there baby ! I started crying when I heard about her first steps. I am SOOO glad you were there to see that precious moment ! Amen ! TX #2 yesterday ( TC ) already in the fog, belly pain, headache, but going to my daughter's Christmas concert in an hour, so gotta rally for that. We decided on me wearing a Santa hat to hide bald Mommy. I plan to stand in the back so nobody can breath bad germs on me too ( Bubble girl 2). I take my neulasta later today.
Hope you are all having a better day today. We can do this! xo cindy

Hi all! Sharon I am so sorry you felt so bad!! It was great that you got to see your daughter take her first steps!
I have been getting my blood work on Fridays, so this past Saturday I had free tickets to Busch Gardens and went with my Grandkids! Had a blast! Then on monday I got the phone call that my white count was low!!! I had to go in for a shot of Neupogen Monday and Tuesday! Wow does that make your bones just ache!!! Now my blood work is on Wednesdays! Also hair has started to come out in handfulls. I am afraid to touch my head! Wigs are on the way! I have my next tc on Monday, so I know that next week will be shot, but hope like last time to feel better by Sunday, so I can enjoy Christmas!I hope you all can enjoy the holidays!! I am trying to keep a positive attitude, as negativity gets us nowhere!

Today I had to make a mad dash to the doctor's office, and found I have a UTI...Now I just want to sit & cry. I am suppose to go for tx#2 on Monday, and I am just terrified that they aren't going to want to give it to me because of the infection. I'm on an antibiotic now, but I don't think there'll be enough time betseen now & Mon to get over this..?Anyone have any experience with this? I thought that I got through my first tx fairly well; few se..but the last few days it's just been a million little things, and today was the straw that broke the camel's back, I think. *sob!*
Crystal
-
You should be well over it by then crystal. Usually the antibiotic kicks in within 48 hours and physically you will feel relief too. In the meantime, drink tons and tons of water and pee lots - even if it hurts - flush those buggers out of there.
I had a cold sore that they had to put a treatment off for - it was actually kind of nice having the break LOL. But soon as it was past "weeping" stage, they were able to do the chemo. I think 5 days on antibiotics will probably be plenty and will continue to protect you through your initial stages of tx #2. If in doubt though - of course they will not give it to you. My oncology nurse, said it is a rare person that can get through each treatment without something coming along to delay treatment at least once during the regime. Apparently this "delay" does not hinder treatment really or effectiveness of it. So they told me anyway when I had to wait.. lol.

Thanks for all the good thoughts and prayers everyone. I am so happy to be able to get up and around. My oncologist said that we'll talk about how we'll do the next treatment at my appointment next Wednesday. I'm curious about what that means. Taxotere really put the whammy on me. I'm 11 days out from my firt tx and I'm just now starting to feel better. Whew! I don't know what I would have done had I not found this site. Everything that helped me I learned from all of the wonderful women here.
Karyll? I read about your last treatment under the Oct Chemo thread and I really identified with the pain you experienced. My hips, spine, shins and shoulders were killing me for days. I took Aleve which helped me a bit, but if I didn't take Tylenol PM, I wouldn't have been able to sleep. I sure hope you're doing better now. Good luck with work! I'll be thinking about you.
That's it. I'm shaving my head SOOOOOOON. This is the fourth consecutive meal that I've found a hair in and I KNOW who's it is!
I wish that it would just fall out already. I'm actually looking forward to being bald (Cindy you ARE my hair hero). I'm sure that my husband will welcome the added counter space in the bathroom once I can put away all of the hair products.
Hang in there crystal1 and everyone else whose experiencing the less than pleasant effects of chemo. You're all in my thoughts and prayers. We can get through this!
Be well!

Crystal,
Oh honey I hope you get this message tonight. I have had 2 UTIs. One with each of my first 2 txs. The antibiotics kick in within a day. I get the neulasta shot the day after each tx so I have never had a problem with my wbc count, but please don't fret. I think you will be fine. And if you are not, it will still be okay. Just a little delay. If you look at others tx schedules, many people different time spans between treatments.
Also a side note, I take something called Acidolphus (sp) for yeast infections. It is sold in the vitamin section at a store. I was fearful that all the antibiotics would give me a yeast infection.
Hang in there baby. If I can live through this, you can too.

Thank you everyone for your words of encouragement! I've managed to get a grip now, and will just try to do what I have to do to get well. I am drinking gallons of water & cranberry juice...feel like I'm going to float away!

Hi ladies, I start my first tx tomorrow! I thought I would be nervous, but actually I'm just ready to get this done and over with!
Wish me luck!!!!!
-
Good luck tomorrow, Sharont68! You can do it! You'll be amazed at how wonderful the nurses are and it will be over before you know it.
I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Let us know how it goes, OK?

Hi ladies, the "good days" are over since I had tx #3 yesterday. I go for neulasta shot today. My bloodwork was great even though I am getting over a nasty sore throat and cough.
Good luck Sharon68, I know you will walk right thru it. We will be going thru the paces this cycle together.
Sharon- how awesome you were there to see your little start walking! that is so exciting!
I had my dh use the clippers to take the hair down to nubs but where my hat sits, my pillow rubs on the sides and back and other spotty places I have patches of shiny scalp. I need to take a razor to it. Yesterday in the shower my towel had lots of little stubbies all over it.
Time for some breakfast, take care ladies.

Hi all,
Sharon68 - Hope all went well today! We are thinking about you...
Mia

Thanks Mia, Cheryl and Sharon. I did it!!! It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I checked in at 0900 and was out at 1130. I read my book, ate some crackers, drank juice and then it was time for me to leave. My onc told me today that he's changing the next stage of txs to weekly instead of the once every three weeks as the A/C. I'm actually ready to shed the hair. I didn't want to spend money to have it permed knowing that I was starting A/C today, so my hair is really nappy right now. I wore my wig to the clinic today because I didn't want to mess with the stuff! It's funny how the nurses try to be comedians. I know they are just trying to make me feel relaxed but, they need some new material...bad:>
Thanks again ladies for all your support, I really needed it!
-
Hi everyone...
Amy, I'm hoping all went well today and that you were actually able to GET there in all that snow. (((hugs)))
sharont68, how are you? I hope you had an uneventful treatment. Just think...one down!
Jay66, CONGRATS on being done with AC!!!
I sure hope that you're feeling better and have more energy now. Just getting my lunch or taking a shower would wipe me out.
Mia, are you ready for Monday? I feel for all of you trying to complete all your Christmas shopping before/during your treatments. My family decided that we wouldn't exchange gifts this year. We decided that we don't really need anything and the baby is too young to feel that Santa left her out. We are getting her a few developmental toys, but other than that, we're skipping the whole thing. We're just going to enjoy each others company and eat a ton of food. Honestly, I feel quite liberated!
It's day 14 and the shedding has begun. It's coming out in handfuls and my husband agreed to shave it tonight. It doesn't seem to phase him a bit. Thank GOD! The problem is that my wig hasn't arrived yet.
I'll just have to make due with one of my hats until it gets here. I doubt I'll be brave enough to take a picture of my big bald egg, but I'll try!
Sending good thoughts and many prayers to all!
Sharon
-
sharont68, GREAT to hear that all went well! I did the same...I didn't do a thing with my hair for two months knowing that it was all going to fall out. I figured I'd put the money toward the hospital bills!
-
Cheryl...forgive my chemo brain! I mean't to ask you how you were feeling. I'm sorry that you've had a nasty cold. I had a sore throat for the first three or four days after my first treatment. I thought I had a cold too, but my oncologist said that it's normal since the chemo kills all fast growing cells and the cells that line your esophagus, stomach and intestine are all fast growing. THAT explains a lot of our symptoms, huh?
Did you get a new wig? It looks like this one is blonde and in your previous avatar pic it looked strawberry blonde. Either way, you look beautiful!
Take care!

Question ladies, I know that I'm going to loose the hair on my head and eyebrows, but did anyone loose hair other places too. The nurse today told me that some patients lost all hair on their body. Also, how long did your periods stay away! My onc said something like I wouldn't be seeing it for a while.
Thanks everyone!
-
Hi Sharon...I'm so jealous of your Christmas plans. It sounds wonderfully simple and very special! I only have a few more things to do this weekend. After that, if it's not done, oh well! Everyone will understand.
Sharon68 - I lost my hair around day 18 after the 1st tx. I'm about to have my 3rd tx on Monday and I haven't lost my eyebrows or eyelashes yet. But I haven't had to shave my legs or pluck my eyebrows for a while now (it's nice!). I guess that was just after the hair loss. Pubic hair is still kind of there...but a pretty "thin".
Periods...I had a really heavy one this week. I was pretty surprized because I thought it would have stopped by now. Not sure if this is because of the type of chemo for er- but going to ask the onc. on Monday (just curious). I was sure they told me not to expect any more. hmmm....
-
Sharon...forgot to say that you'll be ok with just your hat until your wig arrives. Not sure about everyone else, but I find I just wear my hat around the house most of the time anyway. The wig only happens if I'm going out.
And now that I'm getting used to the way I look, I really feel like the wig is mostly for everyone else anyway.
-
Thanks Mia, I have really bad cramps with my periods so I was praying that I wouldn't have one this month. Actually, I'm due to start next week. I just hope that its not heavy nor goes beyond my normal 4 days! We'll see.
-
sharont68, I'm losing hair EVERYWHERE. Let's just say no more brazilian bikini waxes for me...not that I've ever had one.
I'm OK with losing everything but my eyebrows and eyelashes. So far, so good on that front.
Mia, I think I'll probably rely more on the hats than the wig like you do. I'm a no fuss, no muss kind of gal at home. I pity the poor person that knocks on my door without calling first!
OK...Cindy? How are you doing? I hope that you're just caught up with the Christmas hustle and bustle and not with SE's. Check in when you can.
(((hugs))) to everyone...

hello ladies new to chat room. I was diagnosed Aug 07 have had 4 a/c treatments and 2 taxola nd herceptin thus far. I have theses new treatments every week and they are to last for 3 months. My concern is the amount of chemo I am going to put my body through. My calculations are 4 a/c and 12 taxol and herceptin. Is anyone out there going through a similar regemnt with chemo and are you HER+ I would love to hear from you.
-
Hello all, I've been trying to load an a picture file, but having difficulty. I'll ask my computer guru friend tomorrow for help. I go back for tx 3 next Thursday and am not looking forward to it. They said my numbers this week have fallen out of the normal range and I may need shots to help with the hemoglobin. I do think the Neulasta and the Emend help tremendously. I have been teaching about three days per week. I hope I can continue to do this.
Christmas will be about as stressful as Thanksgiving with activity at my house. If it becomes too much, I'll just retreat to my bedroom. My daughter is going to remove my walllpaper in the family room for my Christmas present and start the day after my treatment. I've simplified the shopping and the cooking and my son-in-law helps with the cooking. There will be seven here. I'm the only home they have to come to and I love that they want to be here. I can't tell them no. Unfortunately, more gets put on my husband also.
I love my wig, although I am ready to get it off by 5 o'clock and just wear a thin cap. The not tweezing the eyebrows is a nice perk. Hopefully, I've shaved my legs for the last time for awhile also. I, too, hope not to lose the eyebrows and the lashes. I don't think everyone does, but they may thin.
You are all in my thoughts and prayers as we go through this together. This is the place we come to because we know everyone will understand.
Susan -
welcome happy dwarf! I am her2+ and get herceptin weekly and taxotere/carboplatin every 3 weeks. After my 6 cycles I will continue the herceptin every 3 weeks until Nov 08. onc says one full year of herceptin reduces recurrances by 52%. After that I will do tamoxifin or some other maintenance drug.
I did my 3rd tx thursday, so I am starting on my downward slide. I got the neulasta shot today and the aches and pains are setting into the bones. It doesnt help that we are expecting the ice storm that hit west of here tomorrow. The chill is in the bones!

Sharon- The blonde paige boy wig was given to me by a co-worker of my daughter. She went thru bc 5 yrs ago and never used it. I decided to be a bombshell at the office christmas party thursday nite. I have lost 25lbs so far on the "chemo diet" but I do not recommend it to anyone. When I feel like eating, nothing tastes good so it is easy to reduce portions and limit what I eat. I have managed to ride my stationary bicycle a few times a day too, I am sure that has helped. It really helps with the fatigue. It sounds weird but by riding the bike I have more energy when I get off it than when I get on.
-
Greetings, everyone, I need to try to walk on my treadmill if that would give me alittle energy!! But so far I haven't even had the energy to get on..how do you make yourself do it?!!!!
Went to the onc yesterday & was happy to hear that my tx should be able to go on as planned on Mon., despite the UTI...just want to get one more overwith! although it will be a rough week trying to get through Christmas activites with my class...
The hair is starting to go, too. Heavy shedding...comes out in clumps if I comb it. But I have (had) thick hair, so you can't really tell it to look at it yet...figure by the beginning of next week at the latest (after tx #2) it'll be gone??
Take care all
Crystal

I was brave enough to go to the grocery store today in just a hat, no wig. It was okay. I'm thinking the walking sounds like a good idea. I know exercise before used to give me more energy, but somehow now I had a different attitude. Your attitudes sound like a better one.
Crystal - are you working everyday? I just can't work too soon after chemo. I come home an absolute mess. No coping skills left. I'm at about 3-4 days per week.
Keep fighting the good fight everyone. My issue right now is constipation, I'm using the pain pills to help get me through it. I'm sure it's part of the problem, too. Between a rock and a hard place. Ha.
Susan -
prunes nd prune juice, work better than any of the meds they can give ya (for me anyway) and the dried ones are kinda tasty, I don't mind munching on those throughout the day. I got very desperate and drank a whole bottle of prune juice one day though... lol. It worked!!!!! oh boy did it work and I did feel 100% better after too.
