Susan, I'm so glad to see you here.  The afghan project has been a wonderful thing.  Vickie can explain it so much better than I can, but basically there are a bunch of us who knit or crochet 7 by 9 inch rectangles and mail them to Vickie or another lady named Madison who put them together.  They mail them to different people that we know who need a little "hug".  Some of the recipients are people who post here.  There have been a few others who have also received one.  I hope you can find a way to get involved, it's a wonderful thing.

Hi Madison, I mailed a box of squares to you on Wednesday. Please let me know if you do or don't get them. I used a Dr. Foster & Smith (dog supplies) box. I don't know if the postal service will have a fit over that. -- Donna in VA

I second Pam -- Madison and everybody have a wonderful Thanksgiving. You are all so deserving of some happiness with your families. I will be in Pittsburgh with hubby's family who took such good care of me during my treatments.

I look forward to hearing from Tasha. She went through chemo with me and some others starting Nov 2004. She is a fabulous lady.

    Hi Gals,

It'a been awhile since I checked in here. Haven't been doing much crocheting since I had some issues with numbness in my thumb, but it is much better now. If I could just make a request. There is a husband who posts on the metastatic board for his wife Diane. He goes by the screen name Bimmer. They are in an extreme situation now. She is fighting extremely hard, but her battle has been so tough. If anyone deserves some support right now they do. Someone on the board also posted about sending cards to her to cheer her up. It was supposed to be for Christmas, but he asked that it be done now as time is of the essence. I know there are many names on the list so let me know if it is possible and I'll send the address.

    Thanks ladies

With the patient help of Madison and Vickie, I have completed my first afghan.  I washed it and dried it and it didn't fall apart!!!!!!  I am so excited.  I will be mailing it to someone Monday.

This is such a great project!  Thanks again for starting it.

    Hi Madison,

I was wondering if you had heard from Kathy in Oregon? Did she receive an afghan? I thought maybe she would have sent a thank you.

I lost my cell phone and subsequently her phone number and haven't heard from her in awhile. I haven't seen her on the boards and she has not responded to my emails either.

What you guys do is wonderful.

    Hugs, Traci

I've made two 9 x 7 "squares" so far and I'm having surgery next week so I won't be able to make many more for a while.  Do I need to make an entire afghan or can I just send individual squares as I complete them?  Where to?

    Hi Madison,

Nevermind....I just posted this on the recurrance thread.....

It is with a very heavy heart that I tell you guys we have another angel. Kathy. Her name on here was Stage4. Our friendship on this board developed into a regular email and phone friendship. I hadn't heard from her in a couple of weeks and I just called to talk to her and her husband told me that she passed away last week, Nov 20th.

This was one of her last posts:

112 Comments Need your help and advise... when is enough enough.. by that I mean at what point do you stop chemo? I've been on one chemo after another for 3 1/2 yrs ,with one break during which I had 33 radiation. I had one 12 week break after doxil about ruined my ability to walk. this week has been another rough week, Im going at noon today for chemo. I have to take shots or my counts wont hold up even during my break my counts never came up that to me meant my body is wearing out. How long can you do this stuff before it is actually doing more harm then good? I keep doing it because I scared of dieing and knowing that I'm on my last chemo I can do makes it harder. I m sorry is this post is all over the place but thats exactly how I'm feeling this morning.. I want to live but I'm so tired of the fight. Tired of waking up every morning in pain, and tired because I cant sleep well. I'm scared of the next scan (next week) and scared of the next week dealing with the after effects of the chemo which is getting worse every week. I hurt my wrist 2 months ago and its still not healed, I have to wonder if its the chemo that keeps it from healing, xray and mri made no mention of cancer in my wrist. I just wonder how many of you out there have been none stop chemo for this long or longer how do you keep up, what am I doing wrong?  I get tired of people saying you look wonderful considering what your going threw... I guess they could say wow you look like sh@#$  LOL anyway thanks for hearing me out sorry about the spacieness.  I feel better already just venting this out but it is a serious question. thanks As long as I have the energy I WILL continue to fight

I am so sad. I'm scared too.

The picture is of her and her 20 year old son.

    Hugs, Traci

OH my gosh...............you should see my baby afghan..............It scares the shit out of me and I'm an adult!  Soooooo, I finished the second panel thingy last night....The end that I "binded off" or "crocheted off" or whatever "off" I did is tight.  So, I have 30 inches of nice stretchy blankie and two ends that won't give even a tiny bit.  Anyone have a 'fix' for this besides the fire pit?  Oh my............maybe this is my 'punishment' for abandoning the Hugaghans while I tried my hand at this!

Okay, back to the drawing board..........

    Hugs,

    NeesieYell

Neesie, is there a local craft store that has some expertise on hand that can help you? I don't crochet but you might get lucky at the craft store.

Madison, I have some more squares on hand, I need to round up a box for mailing.

Thanks MB, There isn't a border to undo yet!!  It's just where I took the yarn off of the KK................love my technical terms!  I'm going to look at it in a bit and see what I can do...........thought about trying to somehow get the cast off row back on the KK and trying a different exit.  I didn't use the figure 8 stitch, I went with the ribbed........maybe that made things tighter????

Anyhow, I've also got a bunch of squares I'm working on to be "made" into a afghan for the baby..................................

Be careful what you offer.....................You just may get it all in a box sent to you!!!!

    Hugs,

    Neesie

I am patiently (NOT) waiting for the USPS to deliver an afghan (my very first!) to someone.  I mailed it on Wed. November 28 priority mail.  It hasn't been delivered yet.

MB - LOL  I just love the fact that your mom said that.  I'm glad things are good for her now with her KK.

Neesie - not sure how to help you and I don't know how to use the KK.  Need help with your squares put together?  When is the baby due hon?

MB:  Gotta love your Mom............letting us Axe Murderers invade your homeland!  Good for you getting her going on the KK!

Liz:  I thought it would be better if I made two 30" long panels and sew them together..................I did a different stitch than I was using..............except for the 'weaving' in of the ends.......it is 'okay', it's the tight ends where I bound (?) off that look ridiculous!!

Baby isn't due for 6 weeks yet, so there is hope!  I did finish one of the blankets that I was sewing for him!  My 30 year old sewing machine did more groaning than I did, but I got it cranking!!

    Hugs to all,

    Neesie

Liz, you really need to learn to be patient...lol... waiting is so easy for us...

Neesie, I was serious if you eant I try to finish it..

thanks for the hugs for my mom too.. she so wanted me to teach her how to knit, but she only wants to make scarves and dish cloths...so why not the KK, and her health isn't good so the KK was just perfect, so I gave her my loom and will go out and get a new one...after the holidays....so I sent off my last squares to Madison ...

    hugs friends... knit happy
