I did not receive any hormone treatment. I was er-/pr+ and HER2+. I had IDC, 2 cm, stage 1 and a grade 3. I have my appt with my oncologist on Monday....I always dread those appts.

Hi Sue,
I hope you are tucked up all warm and asleep now. You are in my thoughts such a lot. You are such a dear sweet thing and I hate to think of you suffering like this. I so hope that the new anti-nausea pills work and you feel a lot better soon.
Guess what's on tv here tonight? The Wizard of Oz! It just keeps on popping up doesn't it? I will watch it and think of you.
Love & hugs,
gb

Hi Sue
! Are you working today? I'm sorry this is stiring up emotions of past events. I know chemo made me feel "raw". Everything about me was sensitive. Physically , emotionally , mentally. But it does go away. I hope your new meds help. Please take care sweet sister. We are all gathered around you in a great group hug!xxxx Melody

Too long since I dropped by to say hi, Sue... Melody's words ring true.
Always amazed at your stamina, and sorry to read the nausea is tough.
Just wanted to say good morning or good day and hope it's a more comfortable one for you now.
Stay away from coughing people, always wash your hands, use antibacterial/antiviral washes if possible, it's that time of year...
Hug across the Atlantic,
Tender -
Sue
Feeling kind of different today. Strange really. Very tight and sicky. I really had a look at my stitches today. It really upset me.
I feel like a patchwork quilt, Im scared if I move too quickly I will split!
I know it might sound irrational but thats how it feels. Has anyone on this thread felt anything like this?
I suppose I just want to be back to normal instantly which isnt going to happen.......
Ow well my turn for a cry I suppose

Hi Poppy , I'm 8 months out of recon. Yes , I remember feeling that way. I had diep , so I had a scar from hip to hip. You still have swelling and that makes you feel the tightness. Believe me , this is a normal feeling. As time goes by , you will feel much better. My recovery time was 6 to 8 weeks. And I needed it. I know I wanted everything to be back to normal asap , but it does take time. And know you will feel better as you heal. Try to relax and let the healing time pass. Watch tv , rent movies , read , talk to friends. Thats some things I did to help the time pass. Take care , xxx Melody

I admire you ladies who've had mastectomies so much. Whether you've had reconstruction or not, it must be such an adjustment. I still have my breast--though it may look different. I can't even imagine the toll it must take on you both physically and emotionally. You are all awesome!!
I had a wonderful day yesterday! It was pouring rain on our way to the zoo, but just minutes before we arrived, the sky started to clear and it turned out to be a gorgeous day. We had a great time. It was so nice to feel like I was LIVING and to forget my troubles for a while.
Sue, I hope you're having a good day and not suffering too much from that darn nausea. Are you working today? You are incredible! I'm so fortunate not to have to work during all of this. I'm in awe of you ladies who are now or have in the past worked during chemo. Sue, you're one of the strongest people I know! Your sons must be so proud of you.
Love and hugs to you all,
Karen
-
Hang in there, Poppy. Those scars may look and feel horrible now, but they will heal and fade and you'll look and feel like "you" again. You're such a strong and special person!!
Hugs,
Karen -
Hey!! I just saw that my last post was the 1,000th post on this thread. Do I win a prize?? Wow, Sue! What a testament to you--1,000 posts! That's incredible, and so are you!

Thankyou from the bottom of my heart for being the bravest and strongest sisters I know.....and also for putting up with me.....I would be lost so much without every single one of you xxxxx
Well the nausea meds worked last night and I zonked out .....I woke up with a major sore throat and have had it all day...bit of nausea ..well its still there ...but the doc gave me something for the brain and not the stomach..so its probably switched it off slightly...
Went to work 8 til 5.....busy busy busy today.....still feeling blue and I DO NOT WANT TO DIE ! ...feeling.....
There's a right whinger at one of the other shops who came in to see me today...and asked me about recon...I told her I had to have radiation so I would think...and she said such and such had recon and proceeded to tell me that 2 years later she died as it had spread to her brain......GOOD GRACIOUS ...talk about tactless....good god....would you ever dream .....
Anyway Poppy......hold on tight...I know what you mean about coming open....I haven't felt that way about my mastectomy as much as when I had my appendix out....HOWEVER....I did get extremely tearful when I saw my mastectomy...as it was the first 'real wake up' to this trauma.....you have worked like me and done so much to take your mind off it ...in such a short space of time it is a real struggle to come to terms with ....I feel you xxxx.....Please remember you have us all here ....willing you along ...and loving you xxx
Karen...I am so glad you had a beautiful day! I wish I wish my sons were young again ...... you deserved a good day....it makes everything seem worth going through...and your Tinker...lololol...I can really feel like she is breathing over me ..looking at the pic ...lolol....I want a dog ....hahaha..you set me off again...xxx
Melody.....I love you...you always make me smile xxxx
I hope you enjoyed Wizard of Oz gb ...isnt that amazing.....

Neely....Good Luck with your onc on Monday ...please let us know how it goes ....Much Love xxx

Sue,
You sound a little better today, good for you!!
If your hair starts to go, be sure to cut it short, if it is not. I had long hair and had it cut chin length, just to make the whole process easier. Then when it was coming out fairly quickly...my very dear friend from childhood, came over and shaved my head for me! This was so liberating. She even offered for me to shave her head first if that would make me feel better! Wasn't that incredible? We both cried and hugged and I told her..no, but thank you! When she shaved my head, it was such a relief! I had my wig ready, but I have been wearing this wig (mostly only to work) since April, and I can't wait to not wear it anymore. Usually anywhere else but work, I wear a hat or a scarf.
Sue, your sore throat, may be just dry. Are you drinking enough water? I drank allot, because I craved it. Drink juices, anything that helps keep you hydrated.
Poppy...just think, it won't be long before you are healed, and everything will look "normal" again. I had my masctectomy on Oct. 1st, and I know looking in the mirror everyday is not easy.
I will need your advice and help after the first of the year. That is when I am planning my reconstruction.
Sue, I had several nasuea drugs that helped. But off the top of my head, I don't remember their names. I am at work right now, so when I get home, I will look at them and let you know.
Stay strong everyone!
xoxo hugs & kisses,
Lisa

Lisa xxxx...thankyou so much ! I hope you are having a good day at work xxx
I am going to wear a hat at home...anything to keep my head warm...and save my wig for work......I just want my hair to grow back as quick as possible...it is really long right now
......your friend is amazing to offer to have her shave her own before yours...you are both truly blessed to have each other.... you have been a great strength to me....
I am taking cyclizine meds now for sickness which work on the head and not the stomach...they seem to be helping a little better..
Have a lovely day .... and don't work too hard !
Much Love xxx

Hi Sue,
Dropped by again to check on everyone, and noticed you mention your sore throat.
Well, when our white count drops low (the good guys that fight infection), and pretty low at that, for some reason one symptom can be a "sore throat". So, having said that, it brings to mind that you're probably due for white count check soon, to make sure your not too, too low (neutropenic as it's called).
If your throat gets worse and worse, inhibits oral intake, best to see the weekend ER, where they can check for both infection and very low white count. Need to monitor this, as you're out and about, and prone to pick up something if those good guys are temporarily on vacation.
All the best to you and your boys, Sue.

Thankyou so much Tender, I will take extra care and call the gp if it gets worse. It is a swollen sore throat...like infected a bit....if I can't swallow I will be going to the doc on Monday and not work...I have been taking my temp and thats OK XX
Thankyou so much for all your advice xxx

Sue, I wore a head wrap to sleep in last spring. Amazing how much heat escapes from your head!
My hair is over an inch long right now. Pretty soon, I am going to see my hairdresser, to see if we can color it, shape it up..and I will sport a cute, very short hairdo! I will grow my hair long again!
I am very blessed to have so many wonderful friends in my life. But this friend, I have know since birth! How special is that? We used to play in the playpens together! She went with me to all 8 of my chemo visits! She is the very best, and I love her!
It was very helpful to have her, since my new husband left me 1 month after my diagnosis. Oh well...I know I am loved by my friends and family.
As you can tell, I am not working to hard today. haha..kind of a slow day!
You take care!!
xoxo

Hey darlin', please do not worry about dying. You need to take "baby steps", one day at a time. There are thousands of us out here who are fine. So stop worrying about that.
Get through chemo, keep that front and center. Then rads, (that is a lot easier) and then it will be almost a year and one more year and you will KNOW by TESTS RECENTLY DONE that triple negs, once past 2 years, almost NEVER have a recurrence.
So print this out, and hold it in your bra half. Tap it when you panic, and remember, YOU WILL BE AN OLD LADY!!!!!!!
I am 500 miles at sea and I had to see how you were doing.
You are loved and you will BE JUST FINE!!!!!!!
Hugs, Shirlann

Shirlann...how very sweet of you to check on Sue!! You are truly amazing and an inspiration to us all. I have tried very hard to keep up my spirits and stay positive throughout all of my journey this year. Reading your encouraging words, makes it so much easier to stay uplifted!
Thank you!!

Wow, nice to see everyone so "in here". I feel the love and boy does it help!!!! I can never remember who posted what by the time I get down to here but I read each and every post and commisserate and send lots of positive energy out there to each and everyone of us.
Very Cool that you can be online and atsea Shirlann....
I had to smile Sue with your comment of your "friend" I can't begin to tell you how many people have made the query.... "Do you have cancer?" ANd when I say yes, and be more descriptive (if they request it) They always seem to say something like...... "Ohhhh I knew someone with (fill in the blank) Cancer. She's not here now". And then proceed to tell me what "they" went through as they *sometimes* realize that they didn't say the right thing to a survivor after all!!

Sue, I'm soo glad to hear you are doing better. Make sure you take care of that sore throat now.
As far as hair goes, I started losing mine later then most girls. It was after my 3rd treatment. I went to my hair dresser and she cut my hair short. By the time I went for a wig fitting I was losing it and the lady at the Wellness Center cut off more. It would bother me when I laid down so DH shaved off the rest!! I did the same for him when he was sick!!! Kinda weird. Anyway its been almost a year since my last treatment and I just decided to let my hair grow long again. It grew back very curly (I had straight hair) and salt & pepper in color (I was a brunette). The picture that I posted from the Keys a month ago was me after 2 haircuts.
I hope all of you ladies realize how special & strong you really are. Keep up the fight!!!
Love ya,
Valerie
-
Sue, we sound very much alike. I too love my independence and sometimes I think possibly too much! haha.
Well, maybe someday, somewhere, there may be that special someone...but for now...I am happy with just myself and my family. I have 3 wonderful daughters, only one lives at home right now, and my 4lb yorkie..Oliver!! He is my companion right now! haha.
I am still young, and have many years ahead of me...and like you...living them to the fullist!
You go girl...eat, eat...thats a good thing!!
