Shrink, I use size 8 needles for just about any of the regular-weight yarns. Cast on anywhere from 21-25 stitches (it varies with the yarn) and knit a few rows to see if that comes out to 7" wide. If not, adjust. I then knit in garter stitch for 9". That way the block is reversible. -- Donna in VA

The redheart yarn at walmart is only $2 a skein and you can usually get 5 to 6 squares out of the skein depending on the pattern you use.
-
hiya jas ... been missing you ... hope you are ok
a friend gave me a Michael's coupon for 40% off one regular priced item so i bought a 1 pound (i think that was the weight - it is about the size of a 5 lb bag of sugar) bag of yarn .... wow that is a lot of yarn ... they only have a few colors but i think a few simple squares in the hugaghans makes the special ones stand out

I did mail an afghan Tuesday.......I'll post pictures tonight.
I have many names on the list for recipients..........we will continue to send these hugs.....with all of your continued help and support

My DH was telling a friend on the phone that I was crocheting like mad. She told him how she loved the afghan I gave her years ago. I sure as heck don't remember making one let alone for her! This chemo brain and old age sucks with the memory banks!
-
Vickie, Do yo need squares? I'm just about to box up the ones I have done and need to know who needs them?
-
I do I do I do!
I have two afghans to mail and one more started...I will post pics after they are received by their new owners.
You girls are still the very bestest! I will continue this project for as long as my fingers will crochet!

As Angel said, I received my afghan as well. It is gorgeous and I think of each and every one of you who have contributed to it. I love it. Thank you guys so very much.

I am also glad that Charlene and Liz received their afghans......love and hugs dear sisters........
Liz, your tremendous help in bordering the squares has enabled me to stitch these afghans together so much quicker....love you giggle sister

Beautiful!
-
Madison: As usual your work is breath taking. The picture of that afghan is just beautiful.
Charlene and Liz I am so glad you got your afghans. Life has not been easy for either of you. I pulled my afghan out last night. Cuddled up in it to help me stay warm. It brought back such wonderful memories of how hard so many of you worked on the squares. I almost can look at each square and guess who they are from.
I sure would like to see a picture of your afghans also.
Madison: I have a box full of squares. Just need to be mailed. Who do I mail them too?

Whew...I just got your box of squares Liz!!! I think they must have taken a cross country trip to get here! Thank you soooo much. It is so nice having bordered squares.
Your squares are beautiful.
WildJan...wow...what fun your squares are.
Jenni...you work so hard...thank you.
I have three afghans in the works at the moment...two for the afghan project and I'm crocheting a baby blanket for a friend...my bed looks like the yarn store blew up.
I will post pics of Liz and Charlenes afghans soon. Need to get them off my computer.
Love and hugs

I just "happened" into this place from Illinois Women Facing Cancer and I saw that magnificent afghan. Could someone please tell me the "afghan story" as I am so curious. It is just gorgeous. I cannot knit, but I would like to contribute in some way...perhaps I could arrange for supples or postage. This is just too lovely.
