Curly Hair

Hi - I am new to this site, but have found the threads useful and interesting to read. I finished BC treatment in mid-June, Lumpectomy, Chemo, and lastly Radiation. Am on Tamoxifen now. Obviously, my hair fell out during chemo and came back pretty quickly in the middle of radiation. The texture is VERY different than before. It's much more curly. I know they are known as chemo-curls. For those that have been out of treatment of a while, I was wondering if your hair ever got back to its original texture/condition?

I'm out of chemo 16 mo now and mine is still curly. A friend of mine is out 5 years and her curl is gone now.
Take care,

My mom is 6 years out and her hair is finer and more oily than prior to the treatments.

I wish I knew the answer to your question but I can only add my own question to it:
Has anyone gotten rid of the curl with chemical straighteners (at the hairdresser's)? I am not afraid of hurting my hair as it has come back just as strong and coarse as ever. Hmmmpf.

My hair has always been straight and fine. After chemo, it came back, initially, curly and coarser. After about a year though, it returned to almost the same as before except still coarser, more textured. It's back to being straight though. The color is a different story. It came back too weird, so I just keep it to my liking with lots of blonde hairlights.
I'm just still so grateful to have hair again!

It's been 17 months since my last chemo (May 06) and my hair is very very curly, thick, and softer than it was before. It grew back dark and gray, so once I was given the OK by my onc, I colored it. I wash it and let it go natural and it looks great...I can't fight the curls.

I'm going to get it cut for the first time tomorrow since this whole BC journey started. The last time I did anything to it, I shaved it. I used to have really long straight hair, and now it's short and growing curly curly. I know I dont like it cuz I dont even bother to wear makeup anymore, but I accept it and deal with it - I do agree, at least it grew back! I am getting married in 8 months, and very curious to see how it will look by then (and how long it will be). Sounds like the result is variable; some take a year to straighten, some 3 yrs, some never. Thanks for the comments!

Let me preface this post by saying I'm 4 yrs past chemo & originally had very straight hair. You can imagine my shock when my hair came in EXTREMELY curly, almost frizzy (I was not prepared for this). Over time I began to enjoy my new locks, absolutely no maintenance. Before, I was a daily slave to rollers and curling irons. I actually tried "straightening" products, but nothing seemed to work.
Fast forward about 1 ½ yrs & after several haircuts my hair resumed its naturally straight look....with a surprising bonus, the texture had greatly improved. Now 4 years later, although hard to believe, my hair is thicker and in better shape than before chemo.
