Odd periods

Like i need this. Ok, I've never gone through perimenopause before -- only the slam-against-the-wall chemopause variety, so I don't know what is normal. I had very heavy bleeding after my periods came back after treatment. Had uterine ablation and my periods became normal -- every month, not heavy. After a year of that they started spacing out and becoming lighter. Last April, I had a very light period for a few days. Then nothing until early September and the same thing. Now a month later I am having a normal period. I wouldn't be concerned about it except that the pattern of my last two "cycles" was so different. Is this the way it works?

I had an endometrial biopsy and transvaginal ultrasound two years ago and everything was OK, though of course I am on tamoxifen. I see my gyno in two weeks and i suppose he will do all these tests again (or will he? I mean, is this an unusual pattern?) The thing is, I had a breast biopsy last week, I am having two breast biopsies next week and if I have an endometrial biopsy the following week, that will be FOUR BIOPSIES IN THREE WEEKS. Sorry to yell, but it is a bit, um, stressful.

Can I get frequent flyer miles for biopsies?

One more thing, when i got my period this time I had my usual PMS symptoms. Am I wrong to assume that bleeding caused by something nefarious would not cause all teh usual PMS symtoms?

Welcome to perimenopause. That, and stress (gee, ya think there's been a bit??) can totally screw up the cycles.

So, I keep thinking about what your doctor told you, about having had cancer and getting stuck more often. Same goes for being on the Tamoxifen. More ultrasounds, but hopefully no endometrial biopsy.

Could be that you're in hypervigilant mode right now. Your gyn may suggest patience for another month, to watch and wait. How would you be with that advice?

Welcome to the club of perimenopause. Also the stress you are having right now also can effect your periods. Talk to you GYN about the problems your are having now and they can help you get through this.

    MOTC,

I guess I'm in perimenopause, too, as since chemopause I've have very heavy  periods, non-existents periods, regular and irregular periods and now they're I-just-don't-know-when-it's-coming-or-what-it-will-be-like periods! ???

I suggest you run all this by your gyne but I'd say it's normal?

Well, sweetie, I'm past you.  LOL

I had heavy periods (this as before bc).  Gyn put me on progesterine.  Still had heavy periods.  Then after a couple of years after that I had no period for two months.  He put me on like prempro.  I still had heavy periods although I thought they'd decrease.  So, he then had me use it everyday instead of 28 days out of the month.  That stopped the periods.  And later I stopped the hormones cold turkey when the reports came out.  Never had a hot flash.

I would talk to my gyn and onc.  Since you are on Tamox it  certainly wouldn't be a bad idea to do that.

I'm afraid you won't get frequent flyers miles.  You might want to buy some stock in sanitary supplies.  Laughing

Y'know, when I had my bleeding at the end of August I was a little PMSy too - the weekend before I was all depressed and thought, "I haven't felt like this since I was having periods 16 months ago! But, no, it couldn't be that." Anyway, it turned out to be non-ovulatory proliferative bleeding (if I'd ovulated it would have been "secretory") on the biopsy and they found 3 fibroids. All from the tamoxifen. So, who knows, I guess the hormones could be kicking in a little bit but pretty weakly.
