Positivity-- what are your plans for October Breast Cancer Awareness month?

I'd like to try to keep this positive so if someone else wants to start a negative thread about october feel free.

I always do special things to mark the month from baking pink ribbon cookies, attaching BSE cards and giving them out to  participating in community events/walks/runs etc. This year will be a bit of a challenge because fibromyalgia is kicking my butt and I have no energy.

I did buy a pink frying pan at TJ maxx today though:D.

What is everyone else doing? I'm always looking for different ideas.

    I participate in the NC Foothills Komen Race for the Cure. This will be my 7th year, the first 6 years for my mom, this year for myself. I also organize a race team from friends and family to get more people involved. My team has my Bassett Hound as the mascot and she wears a pink ribbon jacket to the race as well as gets a pawdacure (pink toenails) for the event.

    Last year I got the shower self exam reminder cards and handed out to all the ladies in the office and the ladies at my church.

    This year I may only be watching the race from the sidelines, I am almost ready for exchange surgery that may be the same week.

    I also buy the yoplat yogurt and encourage others to and mail in all the lids I can get my hands on.

    Hi.....I'm one that doesn't mind the "october pinks!"  I will most likely enter the 'relay for life' in my area.........always do the Komen walk but that was in June.

    I really don't know quite yet what I'll do.............but I will do something!  If I see a product that I want and see that a percentage (however large or small) goes to BC research I will be more tempted to purchase during October.

    Let's here what some girls are doing!

    I'm attending the Bubbly Breakfast for Breast Cancer Research with other survivors. There is going to be a guest speaker who has written a book (which I have read) about her journey.

    A nearby college is doing a 'Real Men Wear Pink" night at one of the colleges football games. 30 of us selected survivors nominated by our husbands or friends will be out on the field in our pink jerseys and pink footballs at a half time ceremony.. Of the 30...the surviving years range from 27yrs. to 4 months.

    Should be a really fun evening.

    The local hospital is doing a healthy eating for survivors presentation.  Includes dinner and presentation.   I have not been involved in the local support group, so am heading to this and hope to meet/connect with some local ladies.

    It's almost here-- i hope I'll be watching my beloved Phillies sweep through the playoffs Tongue out while celebrating the month. I haven't seen as many pink ribbon things as I did last year. Avon has a $5 locket and some lip balm. They have other things too, I can't remember what because I already own them.

    I forgot, I am attending the Survivors luncheon for the NC Foothills group this Saturday. Last year I helped plan the luncheon because it was hosted by my county wig bank. I have attended the past 2 years as a visitor with my mom but this year I am a survivor.

    My Husband is getting a tattoo on October 13 to honor the struggles I have gone through this summer. He always said he would never get a tattoo but he said I have faced my fears with courage, he will face his fear of needles.

    I also have purchased the pink M&Ms when ever I see them.

    Yahhhhhhhhhooooooooooo my phillies are going to help me celebrate breast cancer awareness month by making it to the playoffs. I went to the game yesterday wearing my phillies pink/breast cancer awareness gear starting off the festivities a day early.

    On a more serious note, I think it's fortunate that if I had to get cancer, I got one with so much public support and a whole month of education and awareness. Go PINK!

    I am going to a dinner hosted by my HMO.  I will be attending with my mother, aunt, and two cousins.  I missed last year's, as I had my expander surgery that night.  This will be my first time ever attending a BC anything other than my appts. and procedures.  I am a bit nervous and hope that I won't be sabotaged and asked to hop on stage or stand and sing along or anything else that like that.

    At the survivors luncheon Saturday, I won the basket of lavender/pink mums on our table. The most recently diagnosed survivor at each table got to take the flowers home. The goodie bag was a nice pink purse/tote that I am carrying now, just the right size for me.

    I also got permission to wear the Race for the Cure t-shirts to work on casual Fridays during October. Normally they don't want printed t-shirts in the office. I have a pink ribbon quilted wall hanging that I created last year that I hang in my office for October.

    Funny story. My grocery store has donations for breast cancer research at their  registers.  My favorite checker is a woman probably 10-20 years older than me who is also a breast cancer survivor with a great sense of humor-- we constantly have back and forth banter. So today...

    she says: do you want to donate to breast cancer

    me: i've already given to breast cancer

    she: (sarcastically friendly) oh yeah, what have you given to breast cancer

    me:two breasts

    I thought the people behind me in line were going to pee their pants everyone was laughing so much.
