Kim, so great to hear about your boys and their baseball. And, honestly, Bella is priceless! Bugs, Great news on your scan and I saw the landscaping pics on the other thread. It looks great. I'm glas everyone sound so good. Have a great week!
-
It took me awhile, but it was great to read through this thread and catch up with all of you. Glad the tests and scans have gone well.
Wanted to say welcome to LIMOM and hope your sister is doing well with treatment. These boards were my support group throughout and after treatment. Such great supportive women.
Carole, congrats to Allie on her medal. That's awesome. I've been to one Special Olympics and so enjoyed watching the contestants. If you remind me about the next one, I can probably make it to watch and cheer Allie and all the contestant's on. Victoria, wishing you luck with all of the shows you have this summer.
Boy, I had to look up my posts to see when I was last on here. It was mid-February. I have thought about all of you in that time, but really needed a break. I was getting a little down seeing some bad news from some of our sisters that went through treatment as the same time as me.
My doc visits have been going well. I desperately need to schedule my mammo. I never trust mammos since it didn't detect my bc. My onc wrote me a prescription for a digital mammo this go round when I mentioned that to her. She also told me to go to Univ. of Penn saying they did a good job reading them. I've been putting that off since I don't know Philly that well. But I better get in for it. I have an appointment with my rads onc next month and I know she'll bitch at me for being late with the mammo.
We're currently working on our back enclosed porch.Tile floor has been laid and hubby has 2/3 of the grout done. We bought fabric yesterday that we'll be putting on the ceiling. It has a tin roof, so we installed a foam installation and then will be doing fabric in a sarape pattern. The room will have a southwest theme. First we have to paint though.
That's about all I've been up to. That and work. -
Hi everyone,
I've been away for what seems like forever, too, but I think it is only the month of July. We had our vacation to Daytona Beach & to the speedway. What an experience there! I know a lot of you girls are Nascar fans. I was not. I went because my family loves it more than me. Well, I have to tell you, I had the best time. We are lucky enough to have a cousin who works the security gate for the drivers and owners. We had access to so much - for FREE! - and my boys (and Pete) were in their stinking glory meeting the drivers and obtaining their autographs. I took pictures and had my hat signed a few times, too. Bella likes the M&M car and met the driver and he signed her M&M hat, she was in awe. It was really a nice vacation...wasn't Disney, but I can't win every time.
Then we returned home for a few days and I took my kids and my brother and his two sons to the shore for 5 days. We had tremendous weather & really enjoyed hanging out together. Pete came down for just Friday and Saturday, but it was still really nice.
Now I'm home with all the laundry & emails & work to catch up on. I feel like I've been away forever. I'll post pics soon from the racetrack.
Hope everyone is well and having a wonderful summer.

Wow, it sounds like all of our summers are full of LIFE! Ain't it grand? Gabe and I spend last week in the Black Hills of SD. LOVED it!! We will be going back..there is just way too much to see and absorb. We did Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park (hiked Harney Peak) and Wind Cave Nat'l Park. All were awesome and we came home with hundreds of pictures. Below are a few:
The requisite picture in front of Mt. Rushmore
On our way up to the top of Harney Peak (have I come a LONG way in a year!!)
A black and white view of the top of Harney Peak. We were up in the clouds.
Not sure if this can be read...but that is the plaque at the top. It's the highest point east of the Rocky's and west of the Pyrenee's in Europe.
Take care ladies,
Bugs -
Wow Stef, that sound very ambitious for the ceiling. I would love to see it when it's done. Please post a picture. Kim, that sounds like a great vacation. Sounds like the kids had a ball. I am not a Nascar fan either but everyone who goes says it is so exciting. Like you, I would rather be in Disney. We just got back from two weeks on Long Beach Island. Weather was beautiful 80's and 90's and the water was warm - 76 degrees. Really warm for New Jersey. Sherri and Bugs, glad all is well with you ladies. You all sound great. VV - love your pictures - you are very talented! Carol
-
Carol,
LOVE YOUR NEW AVATAR!!! Your hair looks fantastic!
Take care,
Bugs -
Hi ladies,
I have not been to the boards for a while. Summer is so busy with the kids home (13, 11, 9). I'll take this summer over last summer anytime! I can't believe I am coming up on year since my last chemo treatment (Aug 23). I finished herceptin on June 14. It is so strange adjusting to life without constant doctor visits. I feel like my safety net is gone.
Hope everyone is having a great summer! We just got back from Disney..had a great time.
Take care,
Beth -
Thanks Bugs, my hair is even longer than that now although it's still pretty boyish. Not nearly as long as yours yet. Beth, welcome back to the boards and congratulations on your upcoming anniversary! I love Disney - can't wait to go back with my kids who are older now. I think they would still enjoy it.
-
Just popped in to say hi and wow have things changed. The whole site is different. I guess that cool.
Whew! Been busy, busy, busy. I'm glad to see everyone posting and feeling good. VV your art work is lovely. You look terrific! Bugs, what an awesome trip! I bet that was the best. Pete would love to do the exact same thing next year. I'm shooting for Disney! Beth, the longer it is from tx, the calmer I am, but the fear hasn't really left me yet. I am now 2 yrs past chemo & rads. I can't believe that. Almost my 3 yr anniversary. Thank you G! I'm living!
The boys are at each other constantly fighting..you can tell its time to go back to school. We spent two weeks (not consecutively) down the shore and now back to reality. Been back to school shopping and getting everything together. We just had some serious landscaping done, now we are finishing our basement. Well, the carpenter doesn't start until next month, but you should see all that I've collected down there over the last 15 years. I truly do believe that I've kept every toy my kids have ever owned. Pete is astounded at all of it. Calls me a pack rat. I guess I am. Now I'm ready to throw it all away. Just keeping the sentimental things. We came across our love letters to each other in college...that was so sweet. Pictures of us together in high school. The kids were cracking up at how stupid "1983" looks. It really did, by the way.
Anyway, all else is well. Hello to everyone. I'll check back soon. Keep us posted!
Kim -
Hello sisters!
I am glad to see everyone is doing so well. I really enjoy all of the pictures and reading all of your stories. Sometimes I just check in this thread to make sure everyone is doing well.
We had a great summer-went to Florida and spent a week in Williamsburg. I directed the VBS at our church-which was like a part time job, but was a lot of fun. We had lots of Sunday night friends hanging out on our porch and the kids playing in the backyard. Now school has begun again and we are back to work.
I had a really good onc appointment. I can't believe how big the three year mark is. I am going to finally get my port removed in the fall. My little boy is 4 1/2 and going to preschool and playing violin. You can now recognize twinkle twinkle, if you can stand the pauses in the middle!
I am thankful to the Lord for doing so well. I think of all of you often. It is amazing how we get back to the fast pace of life again, but there is always that sense of reality that sets in once in a while that puts everything in perspective.
Take care everyone and keep posting your stories, I love to read them!

I just noticed this thread and have been reading some of the posts to try to get to know everyone. I just had my last chemo on Tues. and meet with my rad onc this coming Tues. As great as it is to be done with chemo, I'm finding it hard to move on from the known to the unknown. I'm wondering how I'll handle rads, then do with Tamoxifen. I have so many questions, but I can barely hold a thought still. Anyway, I just wanted to say a quick Hi!
Best wishes everyone!
Cynthia -
HI Cynthia,
You are halfway there. Congratulations on being done with the Chemo. I'm sure you'll do okay with rads. Mine went so quickly, I didn't have any real skin issues till the very end, and I am very fair. I am on Tamoxifen now and only have a little bit of joint pain. The 'Going Through Radiation' board is very helpful for tips on how to help your skin through the process. Good luck! Carol -
Hi everyone, I don't think I've posted on this thread yet, but I've been reading it for a while. I guess it's time I stop lurking and start participating more. I have had a pretty good support net going through treatment, but I have to say that this board, especially the Stage III and HER2+ boards have been invaluable to me and helped me a great deal. I'm glad we have all found this common ground.
Cynthia, I finished rads in May and started Tamoxifen the day after. Rads was pretty easy compared to chemo, and like Carol said, it'll be over before you know it. I've been having more aches and pains than I used to, and I think it's because of the Tamoxifen, but some of it might be Herceptin too.
Carol, are you naturally that blonde? My hair is about as long as yours, and highlights easily, but I haven't highlighted it since it's been growing back so it is much darker and drab. Your hair looks great that color and is making me think about doing something with mine. My boss at work has been urging me to go real blonde and spike it! -
HI Jenn,
I was that naturally blonde when I was about four! Not natural in a long time! But I found this hair dye at the health food store called Naturtint. It's a permanent hair color using vegetable dyes. No ammonia. I was skeptical at first because my gray is a bit stubborn but it works great. My hair doesn't feel dry like it used to when I dyed it with ammonia based products. I am pretty sure they sell it at Whole Foods too. I had tried hennas ans such but they never covered my gray. Give it a try - blondes do have more fun! -
Hey, thanks Carol! I'll check it out! I definately need to do something to brighten up my locks.
I took my horse out Saturday with one of my best riding buddies and rode like I haven't since before BC! We went 15 miles of challenging trails. He was one tired boy when we got home. We barely made it in out of the woods before the sun went down. We were getting nervous about getting lost in the woods at night, so it was pretty exciting. It's great to by alive!
Have a great Labor Day!!! -
Hey everyone,
Its been a while, and this whole site has changed so much that I don't know if you girls still check in here, but I was hoping for some positive vibes from my stage III sisters. I'm having a bone scan tomorrow for some troubling pain I've been having in my right shoulder/collarbone area. Its been a few weeks and I'm tired of worrying about it, so I called the Onc. She ordered the bone scan but thought it would turn out to be muscular. I sure hope so....Won't have the results for several days, but send the pos vibes! I appreciate it.

{{Kim}}! Prayers for a clean scan! I, too, have some issues with my shoulder on my bc side. Keep us posted!
Take care,

Kim, Positive vibes and prayers headed your way. I know how stressful the waiting can be. It's absolutely the worst. I will be thinking of you - please let us know how you make out. Carol
-
Hey Kim,
just went to physio for upper back AND shoulder pain Too. Of course that was after I had bloods and saw onc. I hope you have clears scans and relief of your pain.
This whole thing is such a head game. We worry, we wait...
Fists up!

Hip Hip Hooray! All went well today! The tech told me after the scan that the Radiologist saw no sign of metastatic cancer. I couldn't have been happier, but broke down in tears. What is up with that??? Geez, you'd think they gave me the opposite news. I'm elated, don't get me wrong, but so emotional. I guess I need to take more xanax. Mary-Anne, I agree, this headgame is the absolute pits!
On a more positive note. I had the nicest conversation last night online with a dear old friend from high school that I haven't talked to in 8 years. He was a foreign exchange student for my junior & senior years and we became great friends. He has visited only once in 20+ years and after his last visit, we eventually lost touch. I "found" him again and was thrilled to hear how well he is doing and what he and his family are up to. It was really a highlight in a very stressful week. Just had to share.
Thank you everyone for the pos vibes. I felt them! You guys are the best.
Kim

Awesome news, Kim!! Of course you cried..tears of relief! Great that you found your friend, too. We had an exchange student from Finland that we have lost touch with and I really wish I could get in touch with her.
Happy Dancing!

Kim,
Awesome news! I'm so happy for you. Doesn't it feel great when you reconnect with someone from your past!
HAve a great night!

Thanks everyone. I just wanted to let you know that believe it or not, I found my friend from Spain on Classmates.com. Our 25th reunion is next year and I've been checking to see if anyone is doing anything in preparation for it. I saw Jon posted and couldn't believe my luck that I could email him. It worked out perfect. Last night he web cammed himself so I could "see" him and everything. It was awesome.

WhooHoo Kim, great news!! Have a great weekend.

Hi Kim, I haven't logged on here in quite a while since the change. Found it a bit frustrating. But thought it was time to pop in & see how it was going.
As to your scans...WHOOO HOOOO girl. I know how worriesome it is to have pains and not know what's causing it. Those tears you had were no doubt tears of relief. Some times we go into a bit of denial and don't realize just how much something is really bothering us. We kind of bottle it up and push it away. Then the big day comes and you get the all clear and whoosh...you can breath again. I am just thrilled to hear you got good news. That's the kind we pray for and just love to hear.
Then the icing on the cake was getting to talk to your old friend. Your on a roll girl.
Chelee
-
Kim,
I'm so glad your scans were clean and you found an old friend!! I hope your pain is going away now that you know what it's not.
Kari
-
Thanks everyone. I agree, VV, I will be rocking those grandbabies one day! And Chelee, I don't like the new format either! Kari, I wish I could say the pain is gone, but its not. But I know what it isn't....bone mets...so I don't care as much that it hurts. Pete is trying to massage it out each night. I think it is stress.
Now to unload again...my father in law has been really sick for like 2 months. He had pneumonia that didn't seem to go away, kept running a fever, bad cough, couldn't eat well due to mucous and reflux. Finally, he went back to the doc after weeks of this and two antibiotics not working and the doc had a CT scan done. They found a mass around his gall bladder, kidney & intestine. He had a second CT on Monday and an MRI today, tomorrow he sees an Oncologist for the results of these two tests.
I know I've asked so much from you in the past...but I really need positive vibes and if you believe, prayers please. The Onc suggested that if the tumor was wrapped around these organs that there might not be anything to do. I cannot accept that - you know me....do anything and everything. I volunteered to go with him and my MIL tomorrow to the Onc, but they haven't called back so I don't know if they want me tagging along. My FIL is only 72 and has been working full time with our business year round forever. He's been so healthy. I'm in disbelief that this could be inoperable cancer.
Well, I'll let you know as soon as I can what his status is, but thanks in advance for your vibes (and prayers!).
Kim
