I'm alive but I'm not living
Hello everyone!
I haven't posted in a while so it's possible that most of you don't know me. Anyway, I was diagnosed 2 years ago, got a mastectomy and 6 round of chemo, I was reconstructed and well it's supposed that everything would be fine but that hasn't happened everything goes worse with me. I live in Mexico and it's incredible but due to my cancer background I can't find a job I've had 23 job interviews and when they read that I had cancer they say NO, I lost my scholarship because my health issues, I feel stuck in a stinking puddle.
Do other countries have the same policy regarding cancer sufferers?
Just for the record I gave up hormonotherapy treatment that was killing me, I'm just 22 y.o!!
My kindest regards to everyone happiness, peace & health xoxo

I'm so sorry you're having these problems. It's not fair. Is there a reason that you have to tell people that you had cancer for your job interview? That shouldn't have anything to do with finding a job, if you are able to work. Kate

I have never been denied a job due to my cancer. In fact one employer gave me a huge financial incentive to come back to work for them and they knew all about my cancer as I was dx and went through tx when I worked for them. In the US you don't have to disclose your health issues when looking for work unless it affects whether or not you can physically do the job they are hiring you for.

Do you have to disclose that you're a breast cancer survivor? That's not something that is allowed to be asked on a job application here.
This seems so unfair!!
Is there a cancer agency you can go to to get some advice on the subject?
You're 22...a whole future ahead of you. I wish you all the best...

Hey Cerrie- good to see you around these parts again.
What kind of work are you looking for??

Hi sister, it is illegal here to deny a job to anyone for medical reasons, but of course, they do it all the time. They just use another reason.
If you are a valued and highly qualified person, most companies are very kind and will go to great lengths to help you and keep you, but out looking, at least here, with health insurance rates as high as they are, many employers make up other excuses to not hire you.
That is just wrong, but it goes on all over. See what the law says about not mentioning it. Maybe you do not need to. Worth a try.
And also, if I am not mistaken, health care is free in Mexico? But maybe you could sign a waiver for cancer, if this is what it takes to get hired.
Good luck, sweetie, Shirlann -
I am so sorry you had to experience bc at such a young age! I was 45 at dx, and I was so angry that it happened when it did. I was so certain my life was on the verge of getting a whole lot better, and wham, bc. This awful disease just doesn't have the decency to wait until it's more convenient. ...as if there's ever a good time to get it. Still, some timing is worse than others.
In the US we have anti-discrimination laws that make it illegal for most employers to base employment decisions on age, race, color, national origin, religion, gender, or disability. I think most of us here live in the US. Can you explain why you have to reveal your medical history as you search for employment? That really stinks!

HUGS to you.
Don't tell them you had breast cancer.
