Crazy Curls?

My last chemo was 7/1/06 and it took what seemed like forever to see my hair start growing! Well it is about a year since and i have the thickest, crazy curly hair! If i pull a curl straight i think it is about 5-6 inches long but since it is soooooooooooooo curly it doesn't appear to be that long. I have tried every straightener out there and i still am not happy with the results. I have posted here before about this same issue and some of you have said that the chemical straighteners that a salon would do do not work. Of course . my co -workers are always trying to get me to do something new with this crazy mess of curls  - it must look bad- but they do not understand what i am dealing with. I have spoken with my hairstylist and she loves the curls (everyone who has straight hair wants curly and everyonewith curly wants straight!) What she tells me makes sense to me but my family and co -workers don't understand. She is telling me that i just have to let it grow - if we cut it now the curl will only be tighter when it is short. But i constantly hear from everyone that i should do something with this hair! Has anyone else experienced this badgering from "well meaning people"?

My hair also came back as thick and curly as could be, I gave up on trying to tame it and I embraced the curl. Product is our friend too with curly hair. It is 2yrs post chemo now and I have cut most of the curl off, it is now the way it used to be, you can see in my avatar picture and that was taken this summer on the water. I just got trims every so often and eventually the curl was gone. I actually miss my curly hair.
