Curls after Chemo

I finished Chemo in Sept. I now have a head full of curls. I haven't gotten it cut yet. I was wondering if the curls last once you start getting it cut. I kind of like the curls because I always had straight hair. It is so easy to take care of. Wash and go!

    Hi Dino!
    As you can see--the curls stay.
    I'm 4 years out of chemo.

    I'm NOT happy.My hair is too thick and has too much body to be curly too.
    Bozo comes to mind...

    I was told they would last about a year. Mine lasted 18 months, but are now compeltely gone.

    If I keep mine short, no curls. But as soon as i start getting some length to it here come the curls.

    Mine becomes an Afro if short.

    I grew it, thinking the length would pull the curls out..No.

    Juanita, mine is the same way, it gets curlier as it grows.

    Mine got straighter when it grew, in fact, I always had curly hair and it's less curly since the initial chemo curls. I'm 5 years out of chemo.

    I'm 2 years out of chemo and the curls are not nearly as bad as they were. I've noticed that when I color my hair it gets less curly. Maybe the color adds some weight to the hair? I don't know... maybe that's just wishful thinking! Well, FWIW, as my hair gets longer the curl lessens

    Four years out and my hair is slightly curlier than it used to be. Once it grew out and I cut it several times they went away. I wasn't sad to see the really tight ones go!

    Yep - chemo curls here!! I recently ditched the wig and everyone who sees me for the first time has a slightly amused expression on their face when they see my hair - we are talking bad perm type of curls here!!

    I didn't put styling stuff in it this morning and after being outside my hair is curled every which way. Like Sue just said, "bad Perm" day. It wouldn't be so bad if they could all curl one direction.

    I'm the original "Straight-Haired Jane" for all my life.

    After chemo was done and it started to grow in, surprise, CURLS. Now that I'm 2 years out, and few color-jobs and a handful of cuts, it's still curlier than it was before chemo. Pretty interesting all in all.

    I wear my hair pretty long and I have no doubt that if I cut it short, it would be pretty curly all over. With it being long, it just makes these big loose ringlets all by itself.

    My older sister finished her chemo a couple of months ago. She too was a "Straight-Haired Jane" all her life. And, surprise, it's coming in curly just like mine did.

    It's pretty funny that we both got curls from chemo.

    Both of us just couldn't WAIT to change the icky gray stuff color. When our hair was just long enough to curl around a pencil, we dyed it. Mine was red, her's is blonde.

    In the begining, it's soooooooo soft. And it still is softer than I remember pre-chemo.

    So, for me, I didn't have any curls pre-chemo and 2 years after I still have curls, but loose.

    Never let it be said that chemo isn't life changing. It changes a whole SLEW of things!!!

    I miss my page boy haircut!

    I had brown,stick straight, thick hair before chemo.
    I now have thin, black curly hair that seems to get straighter the longer it gets. I need to keep it short so that it doesn't look stringy.

    Sometimes I look in the mirror and don't recognize myself.

    Total curls here.....1 year out. I had wavy long hair prior to dx. You can see the picture on the left. I have posted my curly hair online....so anyone can see it if you want to search under rumoret. I am actually enjoying my curls.....wash....put in some hair products to set....then I just loosen curls up with my fingers. Curly hair runs in my family.....and my daughter had super curly hair. I have thought about using a straight iron on it.....but I decided to wait because I am enjoying my curls so much!

    Yep, I'm about 2 1/2 years out and those curls aren't going anywhere. My hubby kidded me that, when my hair started coming in, I went from Bozo the clown (old-man hair above the ears and around the back, bald on the top) to Little Orphan Annie (got my finger stuck in the outlet)!!

    I have always had wavy hair, but nothing like these ringlets that appeared after it started growing back in. It is slowly starting to relax a bit on the top, but the rest of it has to be coaxed smoother with a blowdryer and curling iron. It looks best when it's short. Otherwise it's just a curly bowl. And I also agree that letting it grow does NOT pull out the curls; they just seem to get springier!

    Does anyone have any magic potions to counteract this stuff? It's been awful this summer with the heat and humidity!

    My hair came in curly (or wavy) but it was inconsistent and it didn't last. I had very stick straight hair and it's back to being straight now. I'm over 2 years out of chemo so go figure. I even permed my hair a few months ago to try to get more body in it. Now I'm toying with cutting it short again (and straight) because it's dry and fried and because my boyfriend keeps pushing the "cut it short" idea. I guess he likes short hair.

    Most people I've talked to say the curls don't last, though I wish mine had lasted a little bit longer! It was nice to have wavy bodiful hair for just a little while.
