ooh Mary - sounds like a hotel!! Enjoy it - whats your weather like? My aunt says it is thunderstorm hot at hers , i guess you get the same weather? I cant remember , does your sister live close by?
TraceyNY - theres nothing worse than torrential rain when it should be sunny is there? I was feeling really hard done to here until the weather changed.
Weekend plans - well , a few days before we set off for the airport and a skips arrived. Rog has decided all of teh hedges and trees are going to be done , so they look ok when we get back. I presonally would rather tie up loose ends and deal with the jungle when we get back!!
Kelly - sounds like you have started a good exercise regime - one that you will be able to keep up - good on you.
Whats a coolata ?? -
Debbie: our weather is like your aunt says, thunderstorm hot. My sister lives about 5 miles from my house. Close enough that I go back and forth from her house to mine easily. It is like a hotel for me when I am there. I forgot to mention the dishwasher. I don't have one and she does, so I enjoy that convenience also.
A coolata is a drink made with fruit juice, crushed ice and something like yogurt or sherbert or ice cream. Cold, creamy, and fruity.
What is a "skips"? Isn't it like a man to want to do some big project when you are trying to get off on a trip. When do you leave for the USA?
Mary -
Yes..it was a gigantic thing that I guess is a tortoise. I showed my son the pic and he was like..ooh...gross!..I'll get it posted somehow. Gotta find the cable for the cell phone. I can't find anything and my brain has turned to mush. I just sat down today because I was just plain confused about what I was doing. I would go to the pantry and totally forget what I wanted, then go directly to another place and not remember again. It was happening all the time so I had to sit down and try to get myself to think clearly!
I am very proud of the birthday book we are making for my mom and will take pictures and post them when it is done..What great work and ideas my kids put together. My mom is going to love this!
Debbie..you and I will need to get coolatas. I've never had one but Tracy is talking about them. They apparently sell them at Dunkin' Donuts so you and I will need to sneak out and get one over the weekend and see what they are! -
A skip is a dumpster.
-
Oh, I don't remember what time I arrive but its sometime on Friday afternoon, certainly before 6pm.
-
Deb:
why would you have to sneak out?? I say we all go get a coolata and take a picture so the event is recorded for posterity!! LOL
We pass a Dunkin' Donuts on my way home so I may just have to try one today.
Thanks to TracyNY for the suggestion!
See ya,
Mary -
OK - who else is joining the coolata crew???
Sounds like a cross between a slush puppy and a smoothie - urgh - i hope not!!
Well Tracey says a skip is a dumpster so i take her word for it!
Debbie
Oh - why would you want to dunk a donut? The mind boggles!! -
Do you think we would get arrested going for coolatas in our cheetah pjs?
-
Oh - i leave my house this Wednesday comin , 15th(?) , fly on the 16th. My conservatory now resembles Widow Twankys , with piles of clothes everywhere. The kids are in their 'emergency clothes' as of tomorrow !! (apart from Catherine who appears tohave more clothes than i can shake a stick at - i have taken more out than we are bringing - why would 1 girl need 22 tops and 5 dresses - well apart from TraceyNY anyway!)
-
Kelly
Fitting in exercise with your schedule is tough.
I've been doing water aerobics for the past two+ weeks after work. There's a 6:15 a.m. class but can't seem to make that one. Missed Wed. because it was raining and yesterday because I was in Fargo. Today and Monday will be my last days because I leave for Indy for our toy show and when I get back school will have started, all our little life guards will have left and the pool will be closed.
I've really loved it. Have to find something to replace it. -
O.K. What's Window Twankys?
I've never dunked a doughnut but give me a warm chocolate chip cookie and a glass of milk... -
OM - Widow Twankys...skips...coolatas...ya gotta love it!
There isn't a cop in the US that would arrest the Rocktober Girls...even in cheetah pj's at a Dunkin' Donuts! They'd probably snap the photos for us!
Debbie -
You have never dunked a donut? I would bet those scallywags/wheeler dealers in Liverpool have! LOL -
-
Widow Twanky is the washer woman in aladdin pantomime, always played by a man. I think its aladdins mum?! Do you have pantomime or is it a peculiar British thing?
-
Now I am really confused!! What is aladdin pantomime?
-
I want a colata too!!! :-) YUM!!!
I joined the gym at my work today. My hope is to swim every morning before work, then sit in the hot tub and get ready for work at the gym.... I am not a good swimmer, but I figre a kickboard will work just fine. Once I get into the routine maybe I will actually use the machines too! This also means that I can sleep longer in the mornings - I will get up brush my teeth, throw my sweats on and head out the door....
I can't believe that our "Rocktober Fest" is almost here!! 2 weeks from tonight we will all be together in our Cheeta PJs drinking Lemon Drops and colatas! We will be laughing our heads off! FUN!!!
I found out tonight that my EX got married on Wednesday. That means he now has 4 step kids to raise. Not sure why, but I feel kinda weird about it. Not devastated but kinda hurt and kinda angry. Crazy, huh?
Between this news, the mean woman with Aquafest that keeps telling me that I am a horrible leader and advertising it to the entire committee and being new at work and trying to figure out what it is I am supposed to do, my confidence is pretty much in the gutter.....
I am ready for a crazy, fun weekend with my Rocktober sisters!
Laura - does the hotel have a spa? Now wouldn't that be cool? I could go for a massage, maybe even one of those stone massages!
Hope you all have fun plans for the weekend. I am consumed with the Aquafest Volunteer party which is on Sunday. Elections for 2008 are next Thursday and then I will officially be done as the "horrible" president. Funny that the community is raving about what a great festival it was and we got great press in the newspapers.... Oh well....
Love you all! -
Gosh Tracey - you have a lot to contend with all at the same time!
It must be strange with your husband. I remember when i was younger , it was trange to see ex boyfriends with someone else ,nevermind a husband! The meet up has come at the right time for you! As for the people at Aqua fest , well ppey to them. If they dont reralise now , they will realise what they had when you have gone!
Pantomime - will explain when its not so early in the morning!! Unless cathy Or Tracey NYN step in first!! Tracey will now , and Cathy will know because of her travels - or will not like NOT knowing and research it to settle her curiosity!
Have a good weekend!
After Catherine has been horse riding we are off to change our dollars!! -
Time until Friday, August 24, 2007 at 6:00PM (Chicago time)

It is 13 days, 12 hours, 35 minutes and 34 seconds until Friday, August 24, 2007 at 6:00 -
Tracy -
Hang in there! Don't let the AquaMonster get to you. I'm pretty sure they don't have spa treatments, but I'm sure there's one nearby. In fact there's Michael Thomas Salon down the road. Let me know if that's something you want to book.
Debbie -
I know what a Pantomime is, but why and what is - "change dollars"? -
You are right Mary...we will ALL sneak out and get our coolatas!
Tracy..sorry you are going through all that with aquafest, etc... the fact that it was a huge success says a whole lot about how terrific you were at your job. There is always somebody who will make things rough for the one in charge. Never fails..Murphy's Law, I guess.
Change dollars..I believe Debbie is referring to exchanging her money at the bank for American dollars. Us foreigners do stuff like that!
Debbie..I leave when you do! I'm in the airport on Wed night and fly between Wed and Thurs... I applaud you for all the packing and organizing you are doing so the whole family can travel. It is NOT easy and I remember taking my kids overseas alone year after year, and all that packing and organizing beforehand...of course I was younger because today I'm just organizing myself and it's exhausting! Last year, even though my kids are young adults, I still had to make sure they had the right clothes for the wedding and that was a chore since the menfolk (including my dh!) did not want to get dressed up!
I know what pantomime is but I'm totally confused and could not follow all your posts, Debbie. Do we have a language barrier or is it just the lack of estrogen????
I'm happy to hear about all those who are working out. I plan to join the health club when I return. Need to check out two in my area (one near the beach...sounds the best to me!)and am determined to join and start exercising. I feel like a mess with no real exercising besides my beach walk.
Kelly..I was rofl when I saw that cartoon you posted. Love it!
I'm so excited about traveling and reuniting with my friends, calling friends in the States who I only get to "see" via e-mails, seeing a long lost cousin, seeing my sibs and parents (this is at the end of my trip) and of course...having a cheetah rocktober fun time with all of you! I'm psyched and not sleeping well...this will pass..or not! -
Believe it or not, although I have a lot of clothes, I pack very efficiently. I even make a list of what I plan to wear on what day so that I don't waste time trying to match outfits. At one point my wardrobe was limited to about three colors so that everything matched everything else, life was very simple.
Pantomines are children's plays that usually are put on around Christmas time. The subject matter is generally children's stories, Alladin, Cinderella etc and they may be expanded to include a campy drag queen character that we British love. The Widow Twanky was one.
When my first husband remarried I had a moment over it. Its not so much that you want them back or envy the other woman, to me it was that what was supposed to last forever is over. Did I mention that he came by my house a few weeks ago? I fed him pork. -
DebbieYou so know me but I am laughing at myself because I really did read, Window Twankey That was not a typo and I didnt google it until I go your answer.
Now I googled it to death and even found there are 55 entries with my spelling!
For those that want more explanation than what Tracy supplied Heres a link. Cant imagine anyone would.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Widow_Twankey
and a picture of the widow her/himself: -
Deb - nah its just me being confusing - i confuse myself never mind anyone else! I have re read my last few posts - i really must stop trying to type so fast - they are so full of mistakes !!! 5/10 must try better. I forgot you had said that you were meeting other people too , you will be all 'reunioned out' by the time you get to us. when you get back to Israel you will have had enough excitement to last past Christmas!
Yes , we went to the travel agent to exchange our money for dollars , and Couldnt have explained the pantomime better myself! (only where did my early morning photo come from?)
Like i said i have had a new email address for a while now , if anyone wants it can they pm me. The address with my husbands name in no longer works - well probably does but i cant get them! i dont mean to be funny but i need to know who has it to avoid getting 'not so funny' emails again so i have not put it on my home page.
Actually Tracey , it doesnt surprise me in the slightest that you are a 'super packer' , like all the magazines give advice on! My main problem that Mark is a typical little boy and could get dirty vaccuum packed in a plastic bag , so i have to preguess what to pack.
Debbie -
Pantomime and mime are just a few of the things I learned when I was in theatre class. Yes, Debbie, we do have pantomime here and there, I just don't know where in Chicago. In S.D. there are a few in Balboa Park. Anyway, if you want me to do one for you, I will. I will pretend to climb a wall to get an apple.LOL
So will someone post a complete list to help me pack? -
Do you mean what we will be doing?
General schedule is...
Friday..happy hour
Friday night cheetah pj slumbering roctober women
Saturday navy pier (and ride on the ferris wheel..Debbie..bring your helmet)
Sat. night gathering in Laura's woods...wear hiking boots?
Sunday we depart (bring tissues so we don't flood the hotel) -
Yeah, I was wondering how much tissue to bring? A dozen boxes maybe? We'll cry when we meet and cry when part and there will be many tears of love and laughter in between. Most of us are probably in that time of life when we could cry at a touching commercial on TV so this is really going to be a doozie. We have to make a pact not to take pictures of each other with mascara running down our cheeks!
Mary -
Do we really need hiking boots for Laura's place?
Mary -
well the nearest i will have with me to hiking boots are flip flops!!
-
Here is something important to know.
On the hotel website it says the airport shuttle is $29 per person and needs a reservation. I called and found out that it is not a hotel shuttle, but a different company that makes a stop at the hotel. We need to make reservations at least 2 days in advance.
The hotel website estimates cab fare to be $50.00.
Fortunately, for those of you with cars, the parking at the hotel is free of charge.
So, anyone arriving Thursday afternoon (Tracy, Mary Anne?) we could meet and travel together or if not take the shuttle alone. I'm scheduled to arrive about 1:30 pm.
I got the phone numbers for the shuttle company, an 800 number and the local, so if you want it, PM to me and I'll send it right back.
Mary -
We should make a list of everyone's arrival times and possibly flight numbers so that we know who is coming in, what day and what time. The flight numbers so that we can see if the flight has been delayed if we are waiting and someone doesn't show up....
I need to start setting things aside that I plan to bring. wonder if my cheetah PJs still fit? I have gained a few since I bought them....
AquaMonster!!!!! I love it!!!
Dave has another infection in his leg - so he is back on crutches, so that means a lot more for me to do around the house.... Gotta run, but I have to tell you - I AM GETTING EXCITED!!!
