Follow up visit with new onc yesterday. He is going to check my thryoid but thinks the weight gain is Arimidex related. He also wants me to do genetic testing to see if I have the gene. He said it will help Teryn and maybe my sister and then for me and him to decide if I want a prophy mast.
He said, he'd say remission if I was 70 and we'd be done. But at my age, he said it requires continual vigilance and follow-up even at stage 1, hope that doesn't upset anyone. He did say that 2 years out we are looking good especially being aggressive with a mast and ooph.
According to my nurse, this new onc is way more aggressive than my last onc who I thought was aggressive!! I miss her and he let me cry in his office ... I told him I was sorry, I just miss her and can never let my fears in when I am at home or work so I fall apart at the doc's. He is referring me to the psych department so I can get one on one counseling and not burden anyone. I told him I just couldn't go to a support group since I'd feel silly complaining when I am 2 years out and was stage 1. There are so many girls who were stage 3 or have mets. And I know I don't have it bad, I have insurance, so he said to go to the one on one and it's ok to still be afraid and it's ok to be important for an hour and just talk about me..... I really like this new onc. -
I like your new onc, too! He gave you great advice!
-
kelly....cancer is cancer whether we're stage 1 or stage 3. even 2 years out, it's still scary for all of us, so don't feel you're a burden to anyone. it helps me a lot to have a support group and in the past, it helped to be in therapy. my red blood cells are lower than they should be and my onc. wants to make sure i'm not having an iron deficiency problem....no big deal...but, just hearing there is something going on made me completely freak out even if it is not cancer related. 2 years out....we still get those fears, so hang in there. maybe when i'm 5 years out i'll catch my breath your new onc. sounds great!!!
-
Kelly (((hugs))) I agree, sounds like great advice!
-
Kelly, like you I still worry. My biggest fear is my kids not having me. Being a single parent for 5 years before I remarried has made them so dependent. How you face the fear and work through it is important. I bet the counseling will help you do this.
Amy, Kelby looks so sweet cuddled on your DH but...remember she will end up 70 pounds. My "Lap"rador still likes to cuddle on my lap. It is too funny to see.
Our Dragon Boat Festival was a huge success and our team did our best. All winter I made a website, it is www.capebreastoners.ca. The gallery is located under pictures and if you scroll downto 2007 you will find pics of the team and our races. We had new uniforms and the mood was awesome. Even the weather cooperated with no rain. Any of you looking for something to do to keep fit and have fun, it is a good sport. I think I read you have been approached, Rosemarie. Did you take the next step? Oops, just read you post. Paddles Up!
My vacation was so peaceful and relaxing. Had good weather, plenty of great company and even managed to read three books. Returning to work was hard, I put in an eleven hour day yesterday.
My freind and copaddler Jane Ann died two weeks ago. She was only 49. She had stage 1 BC which was quiet for 3 1/2 years. She developed mets 1 1/2 years ago which did not respond to chemo this time.It brought my recurrence fears to the fore front again Our team formed an honor guard at the funeral. Her husband walked up the center aisle to the Song Good-bye my Lover and placed a red rose on her coffin..it was so touching. He is a super guy and was there for her to the end.
Patrick Had a circumcision this AM so he has spent the day on the couch feeling sick. I hope he feels better tomorrow as I must go to work.
Michelle, your house has sold! What a relief. Do you have a line on a new one? I hope someone has reno'd it as well as you did yours.LOL.
Not much else new ,will look for photos and post a few.
Fists up! -
This is Jane Ann(on the left) at our festival...2 weeks before she died.
A picture of our team.
The waters edge at my cottage
Picking mushrooms with Cola -
See, she was stage 1 and got mets, this is why it's all so scary. I really want a PET scan. I had the bone scan but not the PET.
My guess is she was not stage 1 but probably more advanced at dx? But there ya go, since I haven't had a PET, it makes me scared I will get it again since I was her2++++ -
Kelly,
don't forget Herceptin has improved our odds tremendously. Her2 positive is almost a good thing now.
I am of 2 minds on looking for mets. Knowing earlier will provide early treatment but NO studies have shown an improvement in overall survival with early treatment. Not knowing allows me to live in bliss with lots of hope that I am OK. Is that so terrible?
However looking for mets with good tools and finding nothing MIGHT give you peace of mind. If that is the case go for it. But...what if something is found, then what?
I struggle daily with wanting to search and find and destroy or wanting to go along until I feel something(which is what my onc recommends).
Stage 1 disease is usually cured Kelly, go with that, if you can.
Fists up! -
Hello Sisters,
Its been awhile .we had the home inspection today, they were here for 2 ½ hours so we had to disappear and take the dogs out went for a nice walk. This is so nerve wracking, waiting for conditions to be signed offtomorrow the agent is coming at 8:00 a.m. to take a water sample and our septic system is being pumped out. Thursday the well driller is coming to perform a water flow test to ensure that there is ample water for the new buyers.
We went out looking at 4 houses today, the first one we saw had the wow factor, it wasnt very big only 1300 sq feet perfect for the two of us and the dogs, 2 storey, but new and immaculate with a finished basement, fenced yard backing onto no homes. We are going back to take a second look at it tomorrow. The only drawback will we will have to widen the signal car driveway now to fit two cars but a lot of home owners on the street have done the same thing.
I cant believe our get together is only a little over a week away and I am no where near prepared for any of it.LOL.
Our week away at the trailer was nice kinda sorry that we had to come back early but are headed back up again on Friday for the weekend. We did lots of walking, took the pups on an hour walk each day, it was so nice and peaceful just us and the mosquitos.LOL. My SIL and her dh will be coming for the weekend to stay with us. It is back to work next Monday, but only work 4 days due to being off on Aug 23 to join you ladies, actually it will be the 22nd when I arrive in the evening.
Paula My dh bought me a GPS and they are a wonderful tool, especially for men that dont like to ask for directions like um my dh! We ran into construction on the way home from the trailer and twice we got turned around and he said hon I think we better plug in the GPS after me asking him if he was sure where he was going LOL.
Kelly yes I did see the Pinkstock thread and that is awesome that more of our sisters got to know each other and had a blast doing it!
Look forward to hearing your voice if you cant be there in person!
Your rollerskating outing sounded like fun and both you and Teryn enjoyed it. In my um younger days I had a pair of rollerskates with dice on either side, it was the IN thing back when I was 19, 20 years old.
Big hugs sister the thought of reoccurance is very real and we would be lying if anyone of us said that we dont think about it. It seems there are no guarantees in life but we make the best of what we are given and live each day to the fullest. Your little Teryn is lucky to have such a wonderful caring person as a mom and you will see her grow!
Debbie444 I think you better ask your aunt if she thinks that you can do all those activities if that includes doing them in your sleep,ha haaJ
Did you find out what your luggage allowance was before you start to pack? It can get quite costly if you have to pay for overweight luggage .
Have a safe trip as well from overseas to the U.S. and remember to put on your crash helmet on your way to the airport.LOL.
Is your doctor going to biopsy that lump? Crossing our fingers it is nothing more serious than Graves disease, not that you need something else on your plate besides bc
Some people like to dunk their donuts in their coffee, personally not me, why waste a good thing think thats how they came up with the name Dunkin Donuts???
Gracyie any news on the vertigo? Hope you are feeling a little better.
Amy, Paula, Kelly you will be at our gathering in spirit!
Tracyseattle I like your idea of our show and tell gift being wrapped. We do that at work during the Christmas Season and it is a lot of fun especially when you get to steal anothers gift.
How is the new job going? That is wonderful that you have a gym at work, makes it a lot more convenient and something that you will hopefully fit into your schedule.
Sorry it hurts that your ex got married again .it is a finality or part of the moving on process from the hurt that divorce leaves you with. Love is not like a book that we can just close although we would prefer it that way sometimes ..I hope that your heart finds the peace and happiness with your new love.
Hope Daves infection subsides soon.
Victoria I dont know what your post said as I was away on holidays but am sorry that you have decided to not be a part of our group any longer.
TracyNy I read about the tornado in the local newspaper while we were up at the trailer, man the weather can do some strange things. Dont forget to remind us when your birthday is, my brain is so scattered, cant remember nothing .
Sounds really relaxing the pool and a cool drink. My head hurts thinking about you trying to untangle your hair!
Never tasted lemonade coolata, dont think we have a Dunkin Donuts in Canada?
You are too funny, cant wait to meet you! Feeding your ex husband pork
Deb we havent had a lot of rain here this summer either, we had some rain on Sunday and it turned the grass a little greener but it is still pretty dry, dry and the water restrictions are still on.
Have a safe trip to the U.S. and OMG I have to call the hotel and find out about check in as Brenda will be there on Thursday before me.
Check the boards and will leave details on meeting up on Friday
Brenda will let you know about checking into the room as the reservation is under my name and I dont get to Chicago until Thursday night. Will pm you as soon as I know
I always do up a list of things to take when going away, makes me feel a little less scattered brained although now I sometimes forget to write it down.LOL.
Laura OMG that is funny you didnt know that Victoria Beckham was a Spice Girl?
The Mutual of Omaha was a favourite show of mine, love animal shows especially the Super Dogs one.
Jill nice to hear that you are doing well and enjoyed meeting Debbie. We will have to post some pictures of the get together so you can put faces to the names.
Mary it sounds like you are going to Dr. Doolittles house with all those pets!
Have to try a coolata, sounds yummy
Cathy good for you on keeping up with the exercise program, my excuse has been we have had no time, selling the house and now that it is sold no excuses..
Maryanne cant wait to meet you sister, love the picture of you and your pup! So sorry to hear that another sister has lost her battle and my condolences go out to you on the loss of your friend.
Yes we saw a home today that is five years old that just put in brand new backsplash that is gorgeous and it is done from top to bottom beautifully, going back for a 2nd showing tomorrow!
Rosemarie your cake for your son is a work of art. Mine would never look like that.LOL.
Amy Kelby looks like the sweetiest pup and I just want to squeeze her. Hope her bladder infection is taken care of. How is your leg doing?
This post is getting extremely long and its almost time for bed.
Love you all, if I dont get a chance to post in the next few days as we have a lot on our plate with finalizing the conditions on our existing home and then looking for a new one.
Will definitely post before leaving next week so that I know what everyone is doing and when.
Love
Michele -
loving everyone's pics, stories etc... very busy at work lately so cant address everyone..sorry!
just a thought, do any of you girls have a Facebook account? I just opened one, and its awesome! The best way to share pics, videos etc.
another quick thing... can anyone (Laura?) get back to me via pm with some details on your hotel details ie room pricing... maybe, just maybe, i can join you girls!! My tax return is looking good this year (we do it after 31 Jun in Australia). BUT i need to budget, so need to know what expenses are expected accomodation wise...
love -
Oh, Paula . . . I hope the maybe turn in to a resounding YES!!!!
I know some of the others have invited you to stay in their room, but I don't know the rate they are paying. Still, at a third or even fourth of the cost, I'm pretty sure it will not be too much for you.
If you can make it, when do you think you would arrive?
Mary -
had to post this pic because kelby looks like she should be in a calendar about puppies she's so adorable. my husband and i walk around telling her we love her 24/7
[image][/image]
-
If you go to Kinkos they can make you a calendar with Kelby's picture on every page. It's a good gift idea.
She is adorable!
Mary -
Hi Girls...
Just checking in...I pm'd Paula with info.
Mary-Anne -
Your friend looked so healthy!...it's scary that she died 2 weeks later. Do you know where her mets were? That really freaks me out! I can't help it, but it really angers me. Stage 1 usually has a great prognosis. I finally understand the mentality about NOT getting scans unless symptoms are present. I feel so bad for her and of course her dh/family.
Cute puppy!
Gotta run for now! Hope you're all doing well. -

Paula - I hope it works out that you can come!!!! I've got my fingers & toes crossed!
Maryanne - I am so sorry about your friend - the picture is beautiful and she looks so happy.
I am getting so excited about next week - I keep telling everyone about it!!! ) -
Hey TracyNy - I just PM'd you....
Please drop me a note with your response! Thanks! -
Good Morning my sisters,
Our house inspection went well, 4 minor things that are not deal breakers 1 of which we have already taken care of the other three may be waived by the new owner. Our water test was yesterday morning, septic was pumped yesterday and the final thing today is the water flow test for water capacity from the well.
We have conditionally bought the other home that I talked about earlier with the same closing date as ours Nov 12. The owners have an offer in on a model home here in Acton and if that goes through we are fine and get the house we want!
This week has been pretty busy and really stressful cant wait to escape to the trailer tomorrow for the weekend. I guess we will truly enjoy our vacation in October to Jamaica knowing that everything is finally tied up.
Brenda - I sent you a pm re: checking into room early.
Deb hopefully you made it safely to the U.S. and are unpacking!
Debbie444 same with you sister, hopefully the Wards have landed safely and not with a parachute.LOL.
Amy Kelby is pure sweetness, isnt it amazing how quickly we grow to love them!
Are you getting around better now with your leg? We will miss you in Chicago
Tracyseattle ditto on the excitement, cant wait one week until I land in Chicago, OMG where has the time gone ..
Laura again thanks for arranging this get together as I now a lot of thought as gone into this!
Have a great day ladies, probably wont post again until we get back from trailer.
Love to you all
Michele -
Michele, CONGRATULATIONS........That's wonderful new's.
On the other hand that is so sad about your friend Maryanne. I thought the same as Laura. She looked so healthy it is hard to believe 2 wk's later she was gone....My heart goes out to her family.
