Hi, Sounds like everyone is signing off to go away. Must be nice! Problem with my job is it is so seasonal the only time appropiate to take off is in 6 feet of snow or the monsoon season.
Well, This is interesting, course you all know tomorrow is my last radiation treatment. Yea! Trouble is I am in alot of pain, they marked me up with marker then put tape over the marks. Now my skin is so fragile there that when the tape pulls off it takes my skin with it and I have wounds there that burn like fire. I use the aquaphor and that soothes it some. Did anyone else have this SE? I am dreading removing all the rest of the tape. No matter how slow and easy I do it. It's gross, put that should be the end of this experience! Tuesday I'll start the Tamoxifun. Looking forward to getting in the "big boat" with all of you.
With everyone getting recon. It has got me thinking too. But then I tell myself noooo.... to scared. Everyone have a good day and those of you vacationing ENJOY!!

    greetings my sisters....
Tina just sent me some pics of her soho pony to post. What a nifty thing if you have enough hair for the comb (which I most definately do NOT).

Thanks, Rebecca. Guys, you can also enjoy the view of my assymetrical breasts in the last pic. See how the right one juts out under my arm? That needs to go.

I gotta say, I am tres excited about being able to get that SoHo extension in now.... my SIL calls it my "rat" because they get nasty looking after about a month. I literally wore them all the time pre-BC. Thanks for posting, R!

Love the Soho ponytail! It will be awhile for me, like Rebecca, til I have enuf hair for the comb but then I will look it up. Thanks, Tina for sharing that, and I agree it sounds like you ought to get a second opinion on your Tram work if you are unhappy with it. You do look nice in your blouse, though!
Thanks everyone for the nice comments on the crewcut. I feel like my face has never slimmed back from the steroids so that makes me self-conscious but it's just too hot and humid to care.
Caya yay for walking out of the stall topless! We went to the Harry Potter movie last night (very good!) and I was topless and I swear I get fewer glances than I did with scarves. It's like people just think I'm a weird person instead of a sick one, and I'm ok with that. Oklahoma and Stratford sound fab, too as does the Quilt project. It's so funny you should mention that because today I had washed and folded all my scarves to put them away and it struck me that the SCARVES would make a wonderful quilt, the cotton ones anyway. I used to love to hand quilt back in the day when there was time for such stuff. I'm going to think about this some more.
Nancy, I'm aghast for you. I never got tape of any kind put on me, it sounds barbaric! So glad you only have one more to go through!
Tina I never get tired of your posts so don't apologize. We will miss you while you're away.
Now I've mostly forgotten what was on the previous page so I'm going to post and post again. - Skye

    Hi all,
    Skye,
You look so chic. I hope I look as good as you do when my hair comes in.
    Tina,
I live in Sandwich and my cottage is in Mashpee. I know it is only a 20 minute drive away, but it was great when my dh commuted to work- he could get here every night. It is down a big hill and kinda secluded from the rest of the tourists- only around 6 cottages on our cove- and they are all 4th generation folks. We are the newest on the block and we have had this for 23 years. Another name around here is “camp:” I will try to post some pictures soon.
You look great with the pony. Looks like the real thing.
Have a great time on vacation.
I agree with Mel about seeing another ps to get another opinion on your reconstruction. You should be happy with the results.
    Lynn,
I am sure you are enjoying Ally!! Now you can bond for the rest of the summer.
    Ellie,
Thanks for the encouragement. I am so glad you are having such a fast recovery. That is such great news. It is amazing that you were walking the second day. I hope I do as well as you. Did you have the mastectomy the same time or before the Diep? I am having a bilateral mastectomy at the same time as the diep and am wondering if that will make a difference in the recovery time. When did you take your first shower and did you need a chair in the shower?
    Mel,
I am so glad your dh loved the furniture! Have fun getting a couch.
    Melia,
    How was the wedding?
    Mizsissy,
Your Maine vacation sounds fabulous. You can relax and forget about the rest of the world and leave everything behind, especially the wedding stuff. And if you have trouble letting go, pull out the ativan!!! I would!! You deserve a restful relaxing vacation.
    Rebecca,
    3 more days!!
Thanks for the pictures- I wonder if we can Velcro the pony to a hat.
    Caya,
What wonderful seats. Good for you for going topless in public for the first time. I do not have enough hair yet, but I am waiting for the day!
    Nancy,
Congrats on finishing tomorrow. Sorry to hear you are uncomfortable. I know this is of little consolation now, but yippee that tomorrow is the last day for that painful tape.

Mel, I had those black fingernails too and they did not fall off, they eventually grew out and now are fine. I'll tell DH you said he was a cutie, it will make his day. Oooh, Crate and Barrel, that will be a cool sofa whatever you get!
Mizsissy, have a wonderful trip and we will miss you too when you're away. As for your get together, a few of us were secretly discussing ways to surprise "crash" it so perhaps postponing it would make that plan easier too. :-)
And thanks to both you and Puppy for the prayers. I've been much more chipper so they must be working. I had an idea to ask the onc to go back and look at my January bone scans more closely, that should give me an idea of whether something has been there for any length of time or not.
TLC good to hear from you and I think your birthday is perfect time for topless!
Hey has anyone heard from Robertin lately? Yoo hoo if you're out there please check in, enquiring crewcuts want to know how you are!
Other than last night's movie I've mostly worked all weekend but it's good to have the energy to do that. DS in Chicago til tomorrow night so DH and I had the place to ourselves. And we had the rain we needed so badly. Blessings all around and have a great week my sisters. - Skye

    Skye,
When I told a neighbor that I gained some weight, she told me that my face looked better because the weight made my face look smoother and lessened the wrinkles. I wasn’t sure if that was a compliment or an insult! LOL.
    Tina,
We are all very self conscious, especially when it comes to our bodies, but I could not tell the difference between either breast. Of course, this is only through a picture. We see every imperfection, but no one else does. That being said, you deserve to look perfect and I still think you should get a 2nd opinion. PS’s are very proud of their art and I am guessing they are competitive, so I think you will find one who will agree with you.

Mizsissy, I know everyone's been super buzy. Eventually we will get together.
I did go to the dr. Sat Mel and got a new prescription for antibiotics and a prescription strength decongestent. I'm feeling much better. Sat. I started Tamox and haven't really noticed anything, maybe an ache or two but I could attribute that to my workout so I'm happy that not much is happening.
It was a busy weekend but a good one. I'm always sad when my DS returns to Houston. He won't be back home until Tksgiving except for a college football weekend if we meet up with him at MSU. I do wish he could live closer. I don't know how he and his fiancee will be able to do this commuting for another 21 months!!!!
Viddie and Rebecca, good luck on your surgeries. Try not to get too anxious. Hugs to all

    Hi Viddie,

I had bilateral lumpectomy in late Sept, bilateral mastectomy on Oct 9, and diep on July 23rd. I'm totally sick of surgery.

I don't know if your mastectomy combined with DIEP will be harder or not since this was not my experience, and we are all so different with healing and pain.

Bilat mastectomy was only hard because of axillary incisions (couldn't raise arms), and drains. They are very neccessary but a pain to take care of. At least you will have them only once! Most of us have very little pain in the breast area because the nerves are severed.

For DIEP, I had my 1st shower on the 3rd day (2nd day post mastectomy) and have never needed a shower chair for any of the surgeries. Perhaps you might with the combination surgery. If you need it, use it! Pick up a plastic thing at Walmart or somewhere similar. Don't put much money into it. Remember that surgeons vary with their protocaol on showers.

Rebecca, which surgery are you having? Best of luck to you too!

Congrats, Nancy, on last day of rads. Viddie, when is your surgery? Soon, I know...but not this week, right? If so, GOOD LUCK! I was able to shower in the hospital like 3 days after my TRAM.

I just got in from Meijer, this 24 hour Midwest superstore..kind of like a Walmart...anyway, I scored six new long scarves, gorgeous prints...and four were clearanced out to $2.49! I got two animal print ones, one brown, one black. I am good to go. Oh... I did splurge a little today. I got a gorgeous multi color scarf w/gold lame writing on it at the Coach store. I saw it on this woman at the mall and I was like WHERE did you get that!!! At Coach in Chicago she tells me. So I went into our Coach store and they had one left at the very back...it had been a seasonal item. I looooooooove it. Boy, this scarf thing so easy. I may never do my hair again!

Goodnight ladies..just wrote a long post & lost it!!!

Very stressed today. Too much communication with brothers again, but I think that will taper off. Gina wants me to make up her comp card for modeling agencies and I just don't have time before we take off. And I haven't heard from Puppy!!! I know she was going off on a one-day camping trip.

Ran out of ativans so now I'm taking DH's clonipens. They are almost identical in chemical structure to Ativans. I need them now. And I know I can taper them off when they are no longer necessary because I did it before.

How about a winter get-together?!!! After the holidays in January. I know a lot of people hate winter, but winter is beautiful here. There is a nice blanket of snow outside and a fire going all the time. I have three extra bedrooms upstairs and one huge finished basement downstairs so if people doubled up, I could handle just about anybody who wanted to come. It would be so cozy...AND you can ski right from the front door..beautiful wooded paths, streams, hills, bridges.

Also..JANUARY would be our anniversary....would that be fun!!!

    Let's think about this.

    Sweet dreams, sleep tight....xxxooo Mizsissy

Tina, how did you get so far ahead of us all in the hair department? The pony thing looks great on you, but I'm like the others - my hair just isn't up for that yet. If you find a sku number, though, I'm taking notes.

Well, dh really got on the new sofa bandwagon. We went back to Crate and Barrel today and ordered one. It's not exactly what I had in mind, but I think it will be lovely.

Mizsissy, sorry you lost your post, but it makes me feel a little better to know I'm not the only one who does that.

Everybody have a good week, and congrats Nancy on finishing rads tomorrow!

I have just returned from my last visit to the "fry machine"! Some tanning bed that was!!! Anyway Dr. came in and told me to stay greased up until Thanksgiving with Aquaphor and how nice...(sarcasim here) gave me a dollar off coupon for some!
But I realized something that I had to share,
Exactly 8 months ago today I had my mastectomies!
It's been a long 8 months it seems on one hand but on the other, well.. it went fast.
So for the sisters going through the agony of chemo right now, I never thought I'd see this day, but it does arrive and you will feel great again!
I'm soooo happy!!! The tape is off, I can gently wash away the marker and I kicked that cancers butt! WooHoo!!!

    Hallelujah!
A chorus of singing for you Nancy

Congrats....take the tape off gently, and then do what I did on MY last day of treatment....go for a hot fudge sundae.

In the final countdown here to B-day. Viddie I know you are in a similar boat, I think (if my memory serves me) we are having our surgery on the same day. So many dates to remember.

I think I am fairly anxious about this...I have not been sleeping very well at all. I was up about 5 times last night. My book does not interest me, and I have that awful "futile" feeling...do not know what to do, or where to start. I am trying to keep busy, but it is very difficult. I have my last class tonight, and will be receiving a stack of papers to grade...that should keep me busy tomorrow, and I have a Xanax squirreled away from my FIRST surgery that I think I am going to take tomorrow night so I am well rested to be put back to sleep again.

ah well...hope everyone else is having a good morning

Nancy, Congratulations!!! It's true, the past 8 months or so have been so difficult, but in a way, it's hard to believe that much time has passed. I was actually thinking about it yesterday; it's been about that long for me, and it still feels surreal. I could not have done it nearly as sanely as I did without all of you.

Rebecca, we are all with you in spirit and I know you will do fine, but it's scary I am sure. And Viddie, we will all be thinking of you too.

I got home from Albuquerque last night and enjoyed reading all the posts. Skye, love your hair!

I had a great time at the wedding. The couple have been together for a long time and we were all delighted that they married. The ceremony was simple and short, and reception was fun, and it was great to see the extended family. I seem unable to banter as quickly as I used to, so listened a lot, and didn't talk much ... but I also barely thought of cancer, felt normal except for the darned edema, and just had a wonderful time. Lots of laughter.

    Have a good day all.

    Nancy,
CONGRATULATIONS!!! Now you have to celebrate. A sundae as Rebecca recommended sounds like a delicious idea. Enjoy the day.
    Rebecca,
I know just how you feel. The closer it gets, the more you think about it. You will do great and before you know it, you will be home and have crossed another milestone. Everyone will be waiting on you- and take advantage of that.
My surgery is next Monday, Aug. 13. I am also a little anxious, and I know I will become more anxious as each day approaches, but I have my ativans ready. Our anniversary is Friday, so I plan to have a banging weekend. We are staying at a hotel in Boston Sunday night and I plan to eat someplace special that night.
A friend gave me the book "Prepare for Surgery, Heal Faster" by Peggy Huddleston. It goes over relaxing methods and has healing statements that are helpful. It came with a tape, but I misplaced it. It seems to help me now, but I am not sure if it will help right before.
    Good luck marking your papers.
    Viddie
    Ellie,
Thanks for your information. I am so glad you are feeling better and are able to get out of the house and drive. Every milestone is so important.

I am going to a friends for an overnight visit. I will be back tomorrow night.

    Have a great day everyone.

Nancy, Congratulation! woo hoo!!! Aquophor until Thanksgiving? yikes! I was really good about putting it on during my treatment, but since have been using lotion. The aquaphor is too sticky and gooey!

Rebecca, good luck with your surgery! How long will you be in the hospital? When can we expect to hear from you? Sending positive thoughts your way!

Viddie, I was hoping to be able to visit you in the hospital next week, but it turns out I need to go to Huntingon Beach, CA for business trip. I will be thinking about you! Sending postive thoughts your way too!

Ally had a GREAT time at camp! She talked the entire 1.5 hours home.

Rebecca, I hear you about not wanting the kids to be away for any length of time...I was that way when my kids were younger. 15 is a really tough age..it was good for all of us, especially Ally that she get away from the daily stresses of being 15. We're glad that we were able to send her...next year she wants to be an LIT (Leader in Training) at the camp since she will be too old to be a camper.

Mizsissy...I'm having my proph. lb mastectomy and bilateral DIEP in December, so January trip is out of the question for me. If January works for everyone else, please go ahead without me. To be honest, if I'm traveling in the winter, I'd want to go someplace warm!

Hi lynn! I am so glad that Ally had a great time at camp.

To answer your question, I have no idea how long I will be in the hospital. I think that it is supposed to be day surgery, but I was told by the nurses at pre-admission testing that my Dr is known for keeping people overnight for observation. I will try to post as soon as I can afterwards so that you all can know that I came through it ok.

Thanks for the positive thoughts...I need them about now

Trying very hard to stay busy.....

Mary you look AWESOME! Love the earrings. I think your hair is very stylish..deliberate even!

Back from my last class of the semester. It was going sooooo well until (drum roll please) I was grading papers while they were sitting for their exam and I nabbed a plagiarizer. UGH UGH UGH. I hate that sooooooo much, and ignorance is no excuse because I did a WHOLE LESSON on it. So now I have to fail him, and I hate to do that. He is being pretty slimy about it though...up to an including a snivelly email claiming that he "is sorry and will never do it again".

    DUH

    oh well. back to grading.....

Nancy - congrats on being done - it's a big milestone.
Rebecca - too bad about the plagiarizer - He's trying to make you to be the bad guy, but of course HE is... and I've also been jumpy lately - I wonder if this could also be the Tamoxifen... I've been on it 4 weeks now, still have some aching joints, muscles, of course the lovely night sweats, some anxiety, yada yada - whine whine...
Mizsissy - I think Jan. may be better for most of us in terms of recuperation - I hope we can all meet some day, somewhere - I still like the idea of going to Chicago and trying to get on Oprah -
Skye, how are you doing? I hope you are a bit more relaxed now, we are all there with you.
Viddie, enjoy that cottage, cabin - in Montreal they call it the "country house" - here in Ontario it's the cottage.
and good luck Viddie and Rebecca on those surgeries - this Friday? remind me, it's chemo brain once again.
It was a holiday here today, very quiet, did some paper work, made some meat sauce using the fresh herbs from my garden again.
Mel, post some pics of the new couch when it arrives.
Melia, glad the wedding was nice, also hope you are feeling well.
Tina - love that pony tail thing - but I certainly don't have enought hair yet to use it.
    Mary - everyone looks great.
    good night all

Nancy, super congrats! I was so happy my last day of rads, I'm totally there with you!
Mary, you SERIOUSLY look like Mia Farrow, and your dh reminds me of some actor too but I can't think who. Help me out gals? DS and fiancee make a lovely couple. I think your hair is a bit longer than mine. Although I swear the sides grew out more than usual this weekend. And I bought a second box of hair dye.
Melia hope you've got that swelling licked and feeling better.
Viddie and Rebecca, you're both on my prayer list for your surgeries. I think it's normal to be restless and nervous before any major procedure like that, but I'm sure you will both come through just great.
Caya, thanks, and I really am calming down a bit. Trying to keep my mind on my book not my boob (there's only a one-letter difference!) helps. And today my neighbor who was so great about driving me last winter called out of the blue and really convinced me to call the onc and get those last bone scans looked at. Of course I didn't get to it but will do it tomorrow. I'm ok except when I get these little pain flares from it and then it's hard to ignore. Why did my onc have to say he was worried a lot? At least he is truthful, I guess. I'm hoping he is also wrong. Many times doctors are. I did 33 minutes of power-walking this morning so I figure I can't be too bad off!
Sweet dreams to everyone, whether they be induced by Ativan, Xanax or Advil PM, LOL! - Skye

I haven't posted in a few days, but I've been reading everything. Things have been very hectic here recently. My mom is in Toronto visiting my aunt - the aunt who was diagnosed with leukemia in February and had a stroke during surgery. In January she felt normal and was active and appeared healthy. Now she's in a nursing home, has short term memory problems and seems completely disconnected. It's still a shock to me. On top of that one of my uncles was just hospitalized because of an infection related to knee replacement surgery. He is in critical condition.

We had out of town guests staying with us all weekend - they brought their dog along too. We all had a great time, but unfortunately the dog became ill and they ended up leaving a day early. The dog is back at home after several vet visits, still waiting on test results. Despite all that we had a great weekend and enjoyed the two days we did get to spend with our friends while we were here.

Tonight I'm in Salt Lake City. I have a work meeting here tomorrow and then am taking the red-eye back tomorrow night (so I'll miss the chat). Work has been really picking up lately - which is great. I have several deadlines looming right now.

Anyway, just thought I'd check in and let you all know that I've been reading the posts and thinking of all of you. I hate to miss the chat tomorrow night, hopefully I can make it on Thursday.

Caya, I wish your aches and pains would go away. You aren't whining, just stating facts. I also love musicals, loved Oklahoma. My husband has never liked the theater so we rarely go. When I was a child, my parents had season tickets to plays and a huge reward for good behavior was to be able to go with them ... I always enjoyed that so much.

Rebecca, what an unpleasant thing to have to deal with from a student. Not a nice way to end your class, I know. We are all thinking of you with your surgery looming; you will do well.

Mary, I love your hair. Mine is much sparser, though it is growing fast. Yesterday I bought a new soft brush and hair dye, almost wept with joy. I don't really need the brush yet but it feels so good to use it!

Skye, I hate that you have to deal with the uncertainty, but we are all praying for good results, and expecting them.

Jan, glad work is going well. I was thinking on the plane the other day that there are so many jobs that I couldn't have done during chemo, including being an airline steward. I was a bit smug early on that I could work, but I keep reminding myself that it was only because I had a desk job that was so project oriented. And fortunately, very little travel was involved during the spring. I am traveling again now but it doesn't bother me, since my energy and strength are coming back.

Joni, what gorgeous photos! Our vacation to our little beach house is in about ten days, cannot wait. It is owned by the entire extended fam, has been in the family for 50 years, and is right on a bluff over the ocean in Central Calif. It is the most peaceful place on earth. We are going for a week, and we are very much looking forward to it.

I have ramped up the wedding planning ... our younger daughter's wedding is only two months off now. She is a hoot to work with, but not real organized, so I am really focused on the details to be sure all is covered.

Ok, off to work. Have a good day all.

    Hi Gals...

Terribly busy right now and I don't have much time to post or catch up, but I wanted to thank you Tina for your soho ponytail demonstration. Quite a cute look!

I have just enough hair for some teensy little curly bangs to show that will continue to get thicker, so turbans & scarves are working, with a little real hair to show.

HOT FLASH!!!!!!!!!!!!! A great way to get rid of and prevent hot flashes is to wear a wet turban. Just soak it under the faucet & ring it out and wear it. Works like a charm. I got the idea after using my chillow pillow.

    Hi Everyone,
Just checking in, Melia how fun to have that wedding to plan and look forward to. Beautiful photos as always, Joni. I've been working on Canadian lake monster stories today, especially Ogopogo.
I did call the oncology alliance and my onc's nurse looked at all the scans and said there was absolutely nothing alarming at that spot and that the radiologist's reports were completely clear so I find that reassuring to some degree. Enough to get me through anyway.
Not sure if I'll be chatting or not, I may have to make a fast shopping excursion at that time. It was a two-nap day! - Skye

Oh boy, all of you that are still wearing wigs, scarves, turbans, etc..how do you do it? I haven't had anything on my head since May...I really don't think I could have gone the summer and didn't really care about the looks and stares. I actually think I get less turtle faces without my scarves than I did with. Hang in there girls, eventually we will all be topless!
