Hi everyone,

I had my ooph yesterday. I had read a lot about a speedy recovery but this gas pain I have is so debilitating. I am barely moving because it hurts so much and please don't make me laugh. Yikes. I was wondering about other peoples experience.

Thanks,
Newter

Same thing happened to me. Pain all the way into my shoulders. Actually, it was good that I knew that there would be pain because otherwise I would have thought I was having a heart attack! Give it a couple days. I know you don't want to move but even if you could just walk around the room it might help. I had my hysterectomy in May and thought it was worse than my mast.

The gas I had went away on the 3rd day. The bloating lasted for a couple of weeks though. I felt like I had a tube around my middle. I had a tram last year though and the gyn said he had a hard time getting the air back out.

The gas sucks, but you've got to get up and move. Walk it out and the discomfort (pain!) will go away quicker.

Yes, tums and walking or rocking helps.

I rocked, walked and drank 7-up as it always makes me burp....also when I was walking I held a heating pad to my stomach....Drs. suggestion, it really helped alot...

Hope you feel better soon, but it will only be a couple of days.

    Hugs

Thanks, everyone, for your replies. I am slowly improving. I can sit up easier now and I even took a shower this morning although it felt pretty dangerous.

This recovery has been much harder than my lumpectomy and re-excision surgeries combined. I have to stay positive and know it is all worth it.

I have a quesiton if anyone can answer it. I was already in chemo-pause when I had this surgery. Since I will now officially be in menopause, will I have some new side effects? My side effects from chemo-pause were mild when going through chemo and they went away and never returned. All I had were some mild hot flashes.

    Thanks,

I was also in chemopause when I had my hysterectomy. Same with me-mild hot flashes while getting chemo that decreased once chemo stopped. After the hysterectomy I have very mild hot flashes but that is the only side-effect, at least so far. I asked my doc about it and he said that because I went through chemopause, any side effects that would have happened probably already did.

I am still have hot flashes several times a day. Not as bad as during chemo. The only time they ever stopped was the 3 days post ooph. They are back daily now. Had my ooph on June 21.

I was on Zolodex to shut down the ovaries and didn't have any new symptoms after the ooph. Had already been through the bad hot flashes.

My hysterectomy(uterus and ovaries) was July 23rd and the gas pains have finally pretty much gone away. I too was in chemopause before the hysterectomy and my doctor told me before surgery that I probably would not have much problems with hot flashes and menopause symptoms because of chemopause.

I had my follow up visit on Tuesday and I asked him whether he thought I was post menopausal before my surgery. Thought it was interesting because he said after he did my surgery and saw my ovaries that he didn't think I was truely post menopausal. He thought the tamoxifen was keeping my periods from happening but that my ovaries were still showing signs of be active. They were covered in endometriam cysts. I was 41 when I went thru chemo and am 44 now. He said he thought I probably would have started my periods back up when I went off Tamoxifen in 3 years.

I've not had any major changes in my hot flashes or other problems since the hysterectomy.

newter----gas-X and lots of walking helped me a lot after my total abdominal hysterectomy 2 and a half years ago. I had mild SEs from the tamox before surgery. The SEs significantly increased afterwards (hot flashes, insomnia, achiness) but have pretty much leveled off where they are annoying but manageable.
