I noticed this post and thought I should bring it to your
attention. If you are like me, you will not even see this post except by accident because it is in a new section called:
Interview Opportunities and Moderator Messages:
Honestly, I only go to 3 or 4 sections anymore as do many others.
Good Friday falls March 21, 2008.
Easter is March 23, 2008.
Passover starts (I think) Saturday Sundown April 19, 2008
Need to double check that. The regular calender has it marked the 20th and I'm assuming the 1st seder would start the night before.

Interview Opportunities and Moderator Messages
Dear Community Members,
breastcancer.org has recently been approached by a cruise and vacation planning company with an opportunity to get a group of people together to take a cruise at a discounted rate the week of April 6th 13th. A Holland America cruise ship (the Westerdam) would leave Fort Lauderdale, Florida and would travel to a few southern Caribbean Islands such as Aruba and Curaçao.
=========================================================
It is a survey so if you are interested---Look for the forum
and cast your vote.

Susie, the message is right at top of every board!
Hello?
I have replied that it's much too rich for my blood.
I do wish we could have a huge..convention, say, of BCO sisters.
NYC the most central place.A hotel...it wouldnt be NEARLY as expensive, and all we'd need is maybe group-rate rooms , and the ballroom for one night, to all be together...After that we can go off and go out & party together as we please!
I really wish this could happen! -
Joan
Afraid that's just the way my mind works----I could have past that by a million times and unless I saw the word --- CRUISE
-------Nothing would have registered-----
Afraid "HELLO" is just a constant state of mind for me!!!!LOL
What can I tell you?
Guess no matter how much Sam-e I take it will always be
like that. ---I'm grateful for whatever functioning I'm getting albeit a little "off".
You know a few years ago someone got us special rates a couple of weeks before Christmas in NYC. Since, it was a weekend and my observant sister was coming along: I needed to stay at least double occupancy two days Friday through Sunday noon---
The Hotel rates for those two days were going to work out for me well over $600 dollars before food. --And that was near the village--- and not near anything without a long walk.
Seems comparing 7 days at a thousand one hundred or two or three on land at Six hundred plus food is no great bargain either.
I couldn't afford it nor could I afford to fall on a New York sidewalk on the ice in the dead of winter. I had to cancel.
Yes- I don't have the money but what else is new?
It would be great if it was less expensive. My sister
has been on some lovely inexpensive ones on the Norwegean
cruise lines--quite a bit cheaper. Maybe there are other deals out there. -
I saw the post and expressed interest. A cruise would be fun and a great way to meet my cyber-sisters.
I do understand how the cost would be prohibitive for many -- one of the trade-offs of being childless is a little more cash in my pocket, so I can probably afford it. On the other hand, I am going to die an old lady surrounded by cats while y'all are surrounded by grandchildren -
How is NYC "central"? LOL I agree that a whole week is pricey, but if you're gonna pay air fare, you might as well go for a week as 4-5 days.
I'm retired and can come up with the money by then. A cruise would be fun and give time to meet every one and enjoy other stuff, having nothing to do with BC.org. -
"How is NYC "central"?
Well I meant everything goes there, and people from all over the country can easily get there, and so can people from Europe...
(Not chauvanism, because I live in Philly..) -
Joan,
Bless you bella! I laughed at Iodine's post because I thought the same thing....NYC? Central? to what? But there you are thinking of us across the pond. Of course you would.
I saw the post for the cruise and first thought .... great ... then thought to how many ladies here are struggling just to get the funds for the treatments.....then thought .... well you all know how it goes ... the mind jumps from here to there and back again.
So a cruise would be like a RFTC on water? with red wine and dark chocolate? and the for us old ladies the line dance the "stroll" becomes the "Arimidex shuffle"? Wow and exercise room full of us? I like that idea! I've never taken a cruise being the control freak that I am....I barely trust the pilots on the planes! (lol)
the timing would be difficult for me because we have guests arriving for Spring Break and I promised to be a "guide". Then my niece is arriving, then my sister and her husband, then my aunt and her crazy shop-a-holic friends....
But I'll keep and eye on the development of these plans because "last minute" is my favorite scheduling. -

Whoa----INFLATION! Here it is a few years later and two days at the Hampton inn ---a two and a half star hotel in mid town on the weekend. PRICE (Same time as cruise)----- get this!--$389 /per room, per night Total Price for 2 Nights : $870 TWO AND A HALF STAR HOTEL!!! ----that is the norm.
Was there ever a 25 cent movie or a 5 cent candy bar?
Now that is rich, especially for me on SSD and no resources.
If I'm going into hock; a week on a ship wins -hands down

Too rich for my blood. The last thing that I would do is create debt for non essential items of life and stress over the repayment. There are so many other choices....

I live in Philly too!
