Hi girls,

I am scheduled to have surgery on Sept 24th. I am having my right side reduced and my cancer side reduced and the big crater fixed. Here's my???.....Has anyone done this? I hate the way I look and really want to look "normal" again. I just don't know what to expect with recovery and I did have 35 radiation tx's so I know the tissue is hardened. The ps said my reduction wil be a piece of cake but the left side(cancer) will be more of a challenge. Am I nuts for doing this ? Any thoughts or helpful advice would be great

Hugs,
Stacy

Stacy, you're not nuts for doing this. I had the same thing done as you last November, and I'm very happy that I did. I also had a lumpectomy and rads. Sx and tx left my cancer affected boob almost 2 cup sizes smaller than the good one. I was an almost DDD on one side and a D on the other. Chose the lumpectomy because my bs said I had plenty to work with, and could have the reduction later. Besides the lumpectomy I've had 2 excisional bxs on that same breast. I'm very pleased with the results. My clothes fit. I don't need industrial strength bras anymore, or a partial prothesis, and I look fabulous. Even if I do say so myself. Hubby says I have the boobs of a 20 year old. Unfortunately the rest of my body will be 57 in October, and looks like it.

Recovery took quite a while, I must say. It took maybe 6-8 weeks before I could sleep on my side again. Ps removed 5 pounds of breast tissue, and fixed a scar from one of my previous bxs. He also took out scar tissue from the cancer sx. Just had my new baseline mammo, and everything looks normal. I just can't say enough about how good this surgery has made me feel.

The side that was radiated healed very well, too. I love looking and feeling normal again.

    Hugs and healing,
    Laura

    Hi Joan,

It will be at the surgi center at Bryn Mawr. I could have had it done at the hospital, but the doctor said the surgery will be 2 1/2 hours. I thought I don't need all the hustle and bustle of that busy place!! Dr. Lohner is doing it. Dr. Cohen said he is very good and I have 2 girlfriends who used him for their bi-lats and are very pleased. He is very easy on the eyes as well . I'm nervous, but glad I finally made the decision to do it. Thanks for the well wishes, I'll need them.

    Hugs,
    Stacy
